So I hear Epic 4g battery wont work in Fascinate? - Fascinate Accessories

Why is that?
That means I wont be able to use the Yoobao and other extended ebay batteries from the Epic in the Fascinate?

There is code in the battery driver that checks to see if you are using an OEM battery. I guess there is a slight difference between the fascinate battery and other SGS batteries that Samsung/Verizon don't want you to mix them, despite all other SGS phone batteries working from what I know. You can use non-OEM batteries if you are on Eclair and using a patched kernel though.

no such kernel for EB01?

Not until we get Froyo source from Samsung or from Sirgatez's i9000 kernel conversion project.

aww shucks so I cant use my yoobao 2800mAh from my epic in a fascinate eh?

That's my experience as well since I ordered one from Amazon for the Epic and found that I couldn't charge it. The charger that came with it also would not charge the original Fascinate battery either. You can leave it that way if you like and use the Fascinate to charge the Fascinate battery and the Epic stand alone charger to charge the second battery.... I preferred to use either to do their specified job and returned the Epic battery and charger.

[Q] Battery for Mesmerize (USCC) the same for Galaxy S?

Will a battery for a Samsung Galaxy S work with a Samsung Mesmerize (US Cellular), seeing as they're the same basic phone?
If so, what battery model/code am I looking for?
Why don't you just get a Mesmerize battery to begin with and avoid the game of chance?

Sorry, the question was are the batteries the same in both models. After further research, it turns out they're not the same I believe I need SCH-I500 batteries.
I know for a fact that the batteries are different accross the Galaxy S line!
WTB Replacement batteries... as good or better than OEM
What batteries are you guys buying for your Mez?... and where are you getting them?!?
On rapeBay I can get 5 OEM batteries shipped for $33. There appear to be generic offerings for $4.50/ea incl. shipping as well. In reading the feedback on those auctions I have gleaned that quality of both is a mixed bag.
BTW - I'm going on a week-long cycling tour at the end of July and thought I'd pick up several batteries to make sure that I had enough juice. I know enough people with the Mez that I could sell the batteries off once I'm done with them. My charter has a charging station for portable electronic devices, but it only does 50 at a time and there are 200+ on our charter, so... I'd rather be the guy drinking in the shade watching ESPN highlights on his phone than waiting in line to put my stuff on the charger.
On a related note... can anyone recommend a high-quality reasonably-priced solar charger w/ USB output that I could strap to the top of my Topeak trunk daily?
Thanks,
Roy

You just take you phone into a USCC store and they will swap your battery for free. No questions asked. Ive done it many times when out with no charger and a dead battery.
I guess I knew about that... but not exactly a Plan A when small town Iowa probably won't have a USCC store and even if they do DEFINITELY won't be able to handle the demand of their customer share of 16,000+ cyclists.
So, back to my original question...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Know the feeling. There isn't very many where I live either. As far as batteries go this is what I know.
Only use batteries that are for the sch-i500 mesmerize. Others may work but theres no gurantee and if your buying a battery. Might as well get one designed for our phone.
Non OEM batteries will only work one of two ways. Either you will have to charge them in an external charger, or have a kernel flashed to your phone that has the OEM battery check patched out. Without that your phone will not charge the Non OEM battery. But it will use one hence the external charger.
Now there probably is another galaxy s phone that uses the same battery as the Mes does. If there is it is probably the fascinate. I cannot swear to this but it is the closest phone to ours in relation. But if you are going to be buying batteries. I would probably just go ahead and get one's designed for the mesmerize.
So, here's what I'm gonna do for my cross-Iowa bike ride next week: I bought two plastic 4xD-Cell battery holders at Rat Shak for $3 total. Using scrap wire and connectors I made pigtails so I can either use one 4-pack to run a 120mm PC case fan at 6v to cool me in the tent at night so I can get to sleep (It's hot here folks!) or slave it together with the other 4-pack to give me a functional 12v accessory socket (salvaged from an older splitter I had around) that will take my Mez car charger and/or a 2xUSB socket adapter to charge up my headlight/tailight or anything else that charges over USB.
From dead phone state the 8xD-Cell array charges my Mez in about 3 hours. Probably get around 5-6 charges out of 8 batteries. Also did a DMM test with the fan on one 4-pack and the current draw is very low so I should get a lot of fan time as well.
Not very green, but I had a box of D Cell alkalines lying around so I thought that I'd put them to use. I'm not packing these on the bike every day since they'll be on the charter with the rest of my camping gear, so weight wasn't a concern. Solar would have been an ideal solution, but too pricey.
Back on topic, I found an eBay seller that will accept a best-offer price of $8 shipped on OEM Samsung batteries. I might grab a couple down the road, but feel that this solution will work for next week. Worst-case scenario... if I run out of juice I can wait in line and throw my Mez on the charter charging table.
Worst case scenario if you can find a USCC store they will give you a new battery for free.
Sent from my MIUI SCH-i500
Update: My charging solution worked better than expected, but just for kicks I sought out the US Cellular dealers along my 454mi. route and NONE had batteries available... as I suspected. Kudos to USCC for coverage though... my buddy had an iPhone on AT&T and had NO service at least 80% of the time we were out on the county roads in rural Iowa. I only lost signal once that I can recall... and that was at the bottom of the Nishnabotna River valley in the middle of nowhere... as soon as we climbed out of that I was good to go again.
Battery Solution
I needed a second battery while traveling to ensure all day usability. I went to my Verizon store and purchased a battery for the Fascinate. It also came with a USB charging unit. USCC will not sell a battery to you. They only exchange them or at least that is what the store in my area said.

... yeah, that'd work great on my bicycle... thanks for the idea! Seriously though... I did use my car charger in the end... plugged it into the 12vdc battery pack that I made every night and had a fully charged phone every morning. Saw several people rocking the solar panels on the ride... and one vendor in the expo. area selling a tri-fold panel device for $120. Again, I'm too cheap to buy something like that, but might try to DIY something similar for next year...

Check the quoted text man - I wasn't responding to you
well i know if you get a fascinate or showcase battery you have to have a different kernel to charge them with the cable, otherwise u have to use a stand charger or something like that...i ran into that a while ago when i was still using a TW based rom...but i'm pretty sure the most recent of JT's tw kernels has the battery update.
I know I have went to a Verizon store and got their extended bat for the Fascinate and it works perfect in a stock USCC Mesmerize. It charges just like the OEM bat that came with phone. Cost $50 bucks and came with an over-sized rear bat plate cover to accommodate the extra thickness of the extended bat. I just plug my phone into my computer's usb port with the cable that came with phone or plug it into the wall wort that came with phone and it charges perfectly normal.
The stock battery that came in my Mesmerize says i500VZW, so apparently the battery for the Fascinate should work just fine.

3rd Party Battery

Are there 3rd party batteries that are higher quality than Samsungs? Last longer?
I don't think third party batteries would work because of the battery script. I could possibly work if you are on punk.kaos's or jt1134's rom (CM7)

3rd Party batteries should work with any custom kernel. However, I have never read 3rd party batteries consistently outperforming the OEM battery. If you're looking for a cheap alternative for a "just in case" time, then they are good, but that is it.
I don't know about necessarily outperforming the OEM battery. 1500mAh is 1500mAh. The only way it would really be different is if it was defective.
I have had great luck, myself, with this kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/3x-1500mAh-Batt...603758?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35b20f256e
Using a custom kernel (which I've been doing since pretty much day 1), it works perfectly (no warning popup).
I only use the included charger with the 3rd party batteries, though. I'm not up for taking chances on that part.
What!

They work "fine" with a stock phone, they just can't be charged in the phone. Which is why a lot of ebay auctions include an external charger. I have 5 batteries, all Samsung, last batch I got out of China $2 each. I use the OTB kernel which allows me to charge non-fascinate batteries in the phone, however, I rarely do. The external chargers are very nice I just swap to a fresh batery and throw the dead one in the charger.
The Seidio batteries work fine for both stock and with custom roms/kernals. They charge fine in the phone and run fine. No issues.

I saw a study a while back about 3rd party batteries. The majority of the 3rd party batteries tested, were garbage, weren't what they were actually rated as, and were far inferior to the stock batteries. However, there are some 3rd party batteries that are made by reputable companies; that being said, I wouldn't trust the China made crap batteries sold on Ebay.

Galaxy S compatible 1800mah battery for $20

Hello there, Mesmerize people! Visitor from the Vibrant forums here. We found and tested an 1800mah battery that, while intended for the Epic Touch 4G, fits and works perfectly in the Galaxy S and all it's variants. I've personally tested it in a Samsung Fascinate and a Samsung Vibrant. The Fascinate was a tighter fit than the Vibrant, but the battery door closed just fine.
I've personally tested the battery over the past week and it lasts significantly longer than the default 1500mah battery (I'm a relatively new Vibrant user, so my battery is only a couple months old). The math seems to match up with the 1800mah claim. To be clear, this isn't as surprising as it would be if this were a random Chinese ebay battery. This battery is made by Samsung for the Epic Touch 4G. It's noticeably thicker than the stock Galaxy S battery, but not so thick that the battery door on the Vibrant and Fascinate won't close completely.
The battery can be found here:
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the best 3rd party battery for my phone, and lo and behold, the best one comes from Samsung itself.
If you'd like to read more than just my humble opinion, here is a link to the thread started in the Vibrant forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262035
Hope this information is helpful. Enjoy your Galaxy S!
I did a brief search on this particular Galaxy S variant. Something having to do with it being like the Fascinate and having issues with charging? Maybe I read it wrong, but if that's the case, I'm personally having no issues charging the phone using USB, though I prefer to use a wall charger.
update compatibility with Epic Touch 4G batt
New to forums so plz be patient...
I did try the 1800mah battery for the Samsung Epic Touch 4G suggested in original post on my stock (not yet rooted) Samsung Mesmerize with Gingerbread 2.3.4. It does indeed fit although the back cover is pressed tight up against the battery and requires a little more firm pressure to secure the back cover. So it is a tight fit, but does absolutely fit.
The problem is, the phone Refused to Charge! It does turn on and does work just fine with the Epic Touch 4G battery, but when charger cable is plugged in a window pops up saying "unable to charge non-standard battery". Dang...
Perhaps some of the roms other than stock will work, removing the software battery check, but the stock phone will not charge this battery
This is my first post to a forum in a while so if i failed to follow some etiquette, let my know.
And thanks to all the hard working people out there who have been contributing to this excellent resource on XDA!!

Hard to search from tapatalk, but I posted my experience on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182278
I'm in the process of RMA'ing one of them. The other is good. Seller has been responsive so far.
EDIT: Seller sent the replacement battery quickly and for free. As with the original battery, turned out it was a non-issue. So, all Anker batteries that I received work well. All batteries have 2011-09 timestamps - fresh.
Can this battery be charged in the phone or does it have to be on an external charger?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
it's not that great. their 1500 is better some how.
it does charge in the phone btw, but it take a long time to charge.
The Ankers worked great for me. I got two plus a charger and now they are all I used. I used to carry two spare stock batteries around just in case. Now these two are it. I'd take two of these over three stock batteries any day, even though I know the math does not add up.
They do charge in the phone, but if I actually have to use the spare, then when I get home I charge one in the charger at the same time the phone charges the other. The phone charges faster than the charger, but maybe slower than it charges the stock battery.
I don't have a good way to test how much charge a battery holds though. Is there an app that tracks battery usage so I'd be able to tell how much more charge one battery has than another?
I bought the Anker 1800mAh batteries and charger for $17 on ebay (maybe cheaper, I don't remember). My wife uses it in her Epic and it easily lasts all day long, no issues. I find it to last almost as long as my stock 1800mAh battery does in my Epic Touch.
No issues with either one, recharging time isn't an issue since it'll last all day and it'll recharge overnight while we're sleeping... Plus that leaves us an 1800mAh and the stock 1500mAh batteries as spares...

I got them from amazon, 2 for $20 with the free charger. I've bought other batteries before but now can't imagine why anyone with an epic wouldn't get these.

I'm pretty happy with, Battery Monitor Widget
Ordered from Amazon
I just ordered the 2x1800 mah Anker batteries plus an external charger for about 27 bucks from Amazon. Can't wait to get them and try them out. I think I might've burned through my stock battery a bit faster than usual because it doesn't seem to hold a charge as well as it did, and I was always flashing ROMs and having to re-calibrate the battery every time.
Curiously enough, the stock battery issue seemed to be more pronounced when I went to EI22 and flashed the ACS ICS "F*** it, we'll do it live" v5.5 ROM
hmm....could be just in my head, though. It's a great ROM.
I just got the 2 Anker 1800mAh batteries with the external charger for $20 plus tax (still under $22 with free 2 day shipping using Amazon Prime).
This was a GREAT deal so far, and it's nice to have 2 spare batteries (one extra 1800 and the stock 1500 I've been using for the past year).
This is a bargain and I recommend anyone who has even thought for a sec about getting a spare battery to pick up this deal.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Batteri...GXR6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323157418&sr=8-1
The only downside I can see so far is that the battery is SLIGHTLY heavier, so the phone feels a little heavier than with the stock battery. I guess it's just physics.
Makes the phone feel more solid.
I had a 100% charge at noon today and so far with pretty heavy use, 12 hours later, I'm at about 44% which isn't bad. In the past I've had to charge in the middle of the day to avoid phone going dead at night.
Wow!! Anker-licious!
So I finally got my (w)Anker batteries in the mail and charged one up. I installed it, immediately booted to ACS Recovery 5 and wiped battery stats, rebooted, and I've been running the phone uninterrupted ever since. This was very early this morning.
So far so good!! Ten + hours and only at 76% after mostly idling, with some moderate Facebooking, Youtubing, and Bluetooth audio streaming thrown in.
Battery fits perfectly in my Epic and zero issues so far.
I wonder how it will behave after the break-in period of 4 to 5 cycles.
I use the anker 1800 in my wife's epic. It consistently gets 3+ hours over the stock. Well worth the $12 and a real upgrade for us as the stock battery would always give up around the 11hr mark and the same use she gets 14+ hrs w the 1800. Around 3 hour screen on time maybe.
Although in my nexus the anker 1600 seems worse than my stock battery. Worth a try but not an upgrade in a nexus.

Sorry bout that last "post" I was taking the back off my phone lol. Anyway, here's a question:
My wife got the Touch not too long ago. Before, she had what I'm using now, the Epic 4g. When she had the 4g, she was getting such crappy battery life that she bought an xtra one. When I adopted the Epic, she didn't want to give up the battery. (Don't ask me why, she's crazy) But she has been holding onto battery, afraid to put it into her SG2. From reading the posts in here, I'm assuming that she can use her xtra battery (1500mAh) in her SG2. Am I right? I'm sure she wont get nearly as long life as the 1800 that's in her phone now, but she could use the 1500 in a pinch couldn't she? (No matter what the answer is, I'm gonna tell her no so she'll pony up the xtra one lol) But just out of curiosity, would the 1500 work in the SG2?
Thanx,
Ridge

Never try to let you batteries run completely dead. This will shorten the life of Li-Ion batteries. And feel free to let your batteries charge over night. When the battery gets charged fully the charging will stop or slow as needed. They will not overcharge. The charging systems of phones have their own regulation. Not sure where previous poster got his info. Guess his phone still uses NiCads.
Yet to see an extended battery for The Inspire with the custom cover. There is a battery pack that attaches to the back of the phone but I can't remember the make. There was big talk when they were released but I hear little about them now.

Yet to see an extended battery for The Inspire with the custom cover. There is a battery pack that attaches to the back of the phone but I can't remember the make. There was big talk when they were released but I hear little about them now.

that i read , is not good to let the battery over charge , that has happened to me, i have let it over charge overnight , after that the battery life gets reduce, i have an app call current monitor , after the battery reach 4.209 V . if i let sit there charging, the voltage starts to go down . ( maybe is the app)
with a 3 hour charge , i get about a day use out of the cell phone . letting the battery died the first three time you put it in the phone , i was told by th rep of the company that sold me the item , like i said before i get pretty good battery life , even with heavy use , now that temple run is in android . even more fun ..
Not that its a huge improvement over 1850 but the best I've seen for the inspire are 2000mAh, I just kept searching on ebay in 100 mAh increments until I got no results.

Sadly there are no "real" extended batteries for the inspire, they all have exaggerated
ratings, and the Powerskin is an external battery/case and I like my otterbox to much
to use it.

Has anyone tried the monoprice usb battery packs? Thinking of picking one up but need to think of some other stuff to get with it first to justify the shipping.

Be extra careful were you buy your extended life batteries from.. i ordered two and got what i paid for... they were 1850mAh which did last about 4 hours longer then the original but which one my camera didnt work... Said something to the tune of "Cannot use flash in cold weather conditions"... When i saw this for the first time i was like WTF its 80 degrees outside... then i changed batteries again and it worked... obviously something wrong in the battery.
It i probably worth spending a little more money on the battery to get better quality product.
saw this on ebay...2450mah
highest capacity ever for the HTC DESIRE HD or INSPIRE 4G
you can search on ebay for HTC DESIRE HD 2450mah...
not sure about it's performance, since it's made in china.
you are awesome

Probably not.
According to the DHD community the Mugen is the only trustworthy one, and that's at around 1650mah. The ones you see online are rarely what they claim to be.
1800 Andida good
Basically Mugen and Anker are the only good extended batteries it seems, and even then they don't seem to help much. D: I still wanna pick up an extra battery just in case for long trips, etc.
