My nexus s keeps freezing. I have factory reset from a recovery boot, formatted cache and SD. I'm at 2.3.3 and have not rooted.
It will not freeze when it is plugged in so adb debug session doesn't tell me anything.
I have tried alogcat with it set to 15 mins but it usually won't save anything before the phone freezes.
I am not using a custom launcher but it did freeze when I was using launcher pro.
When it freezes the clock stops and I can wake the device up but the screen is non responsive and I cannot unlock it. After the screen is turned off I cannot wake it up again.
Sometimes there is a error triangle but I am unable to see what the error is.
Ideas?

I have a stock captivate running 2.2. Every time I reboot my phone it vibrates like something is force closing but no dialog pops up. Is this normal? If not how can I determine what is force closing. It takes about 5 min to become usable after being turned on.
The only other problem I have is the crappy GPS and it is kinda laggy.
Is it factory stock 2.2 or for you install stock 2.2
If so possibly something when wrong on the install, try it again
Stock is most likely going to have crappy GPS and lag so that's sadly normal

Can't say what app is FC on you but of I were you I would backup my apps with titanium backup and would flash the stock or custom rom again then restore.Usually by then problem gets resolved 99% Just be sure when in tibu restore apps only never restore with data and also don't restore sytem apps only user apps.
Rom: Continuum 4.1
Kernel: Onix #7
Modem: jk4

Try a factory reset first.
reboot or after/while shutdown process? mines vibrates everytime I shutdown after the S galaxy logo,I think to confirm that the device is totally shutdown and vibrates in the end of shutdown process

I had the same problem and booting up took over 20+ minutes of it just vibrating every so often indicating FCs. I think I gave up and factory reset mine after it wasn't ready to use after waiting for an hour. It fixed it for me.
I think my problem was when I upgraded from Stock 2.1 to 2.2, something bad happened but I can't remember accurately what it was. I think some how my phone was in download mode when my microusb wasn't connected or something. I just remember the phone showing do not disconnect but I had cable in one had and phone in the other lol.
Hello,
Today is my 14th day with the device and this device seems to be hot rebooting itself. Its not a complete reboot but a hot reboot that take 1/3rd the time to start up. Attached is the Alogcat. Anyone have any ideas? Should I swap the device out?
There is no reason for a reboot. I am not running any applications at time of reboot. And it happens randomly.
I didn't see anything in the logcat showing what the problem was. It looked like alogcat didn't pull everything, or maybe something got lost when it hot booted. Could you try to get a logcat via adb if it happens again?
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
Run the above and wait a little bit (10-15 sec) and then press ctrl+c to stop as it will just keep outputting the log to the file.
now i notice that only 3 apps are showing in my downloads in the market and i have around 20 downloaded applications. what can cause this?
do you use any app2sd+ technique (script, application, ...) ?
this happened to me in one ROM it was app2sd+, specially when i install/uninstall any app
or if i mount the sdcard as drive.
i do not all apps are installed on the phone internal memory.
after installing a new app all my apps showed back up in the market.

I am on CleanRom 3.0 right now, fresh install. Now, for the problem. Today while sitting in class I took my phone out to see it was booted into safe mode. So I rebooted it back, and noticed a lot of my downloaded apps were launching 10-25 seconds after I clicked to open them. So, I rebooted again. That didn't work. I cleared cache and dalvik cache. That didn't work. So, I dirty flashed CleanRom 3.0, which still didn't work. After driving and listening to spotify in my car, the apps launched completely fine, and still are. Does anyone know why this is happening? By the way, this happened on my rooted stock rom, that's why I switched roms. I don't know if this could cause any issues, but I do use Directory Bind.
Have you checked if power saver is on?
Another possibility could be a lot of applications running the background and just slowing your phone down.
Check your task manager by holding the home button for about 2-3 seconds.
Yea, power saving is off. And there isn't any apps running in the background when it's ran slow. Most stock apps will launch fast (settings, phone, clock), but downloaded ones won't (I funny, handcent sms). I seriously can't figure out what the issue is. I've even tried messing around with set cpu, but that didn't help.

This used to happen on my phone, and it still happens on my wife's. Basically she presses call, and the call won't initiate for 30-60 seconds. The phone is rooted with factory fp1e. I just wiped it a few days ago, started fresh, and right now it is her only complaint. I've tried wiping cache and dalvik. I also tried to fix permissions with cwm 4.xx but the log says it's missing some sort of file. I tried permissions with ROM toolbox but it just spins for hours... I don't think it did anything.
I've been living with that annoying problem forever. Tweaked 3.2 stock or lazarus. I've had the problem way before 3.x or fp5 too

Try deleting cache or reinstalling software. It fixed it for me different times.

Mine does that too sometimes and rebooting seems to help for a bit. Sucks when trying to win something off the radio and you have to be caller #19 or whatever
Mine was doing the same but only worse. It could take minutes before it dialed. Even worse, it would dial while I was on the phone because I pressed "Send" so many times before. The problem is really bad for me because I have a older phone. Anyway, I fixed it by doing the following. I used Cool Tools, OS Monitor and Watchdog to look for runaway apps or processes that use too much CPU. I removed many tweaks I've added like SD boost and Dalvik Heap size and set them back to the stock settings. Using a tool like Rom Toolbox, set your CPU to maximum while the screen is on, normal when it's not. My CPU usage while idle is now very low (<5%). Cool Tool is a great tool for checking this. I also recommend you try CrossBreeder by idcrisis. It's better than the Seeder app, in my opinion. Good luck...
EDIT: Look @ my post #1819 in the CrossBreeder forum for a little more info.

Ok. I downloaded cool tools and can't make sense of the app. How do I use it. I too want to eliminate the lag.

For several days now I've been having this problem appear in different apps. First, it happened on the Facebook app, then on an app called Goal, and most recently on the Textra (SMS Alternative). What basically happens is when I press on the back button (be it the capacitive button on the bottom of the screen or the button in the app that appears on top), the screen just refreshes. I'm not talking about a refresh like on an internet browser, but more like it redraws the screen really quickly. I basically get stuck in a specific screen. What's worse is that even if I do somehow get out of the screen, the next time I come back to the app (say I switched apps for a minute), I will be back in that same screen.
No matter what I do, it's almost impossible to get rid of the screen. I tried clearing the running apps, and even if I start it over again it will go back to that same screen. The only thing that has so far worked has been either clearing data for the app, which can be troublesome especially if it's an app that requires some sort of a setup, I end up having to do that all over again. Or in some cases, I reboot the system.
I have recently installed a memory booster software, and this only occurred to me know that I'm writing this message. I will uninstall it to see that was what was causing the problem, but if it isn't, does anyone have any idea what it couuld be?
I'm running NOVA Prime 3.0.2 on the Ultra MAXX.
Have you booted into Safe Mode to see whether this same behavior occurs?

How do I go about doing that? I'm not rooted.
This can be done on stock unrooted. Power off, but long press "Power off" to see the option to boot into safe mode.
