Are you on step 2?

yes im on step 2 the last part were it says to type in hackerize- ace clean it tells me no such file or directory

ok make sure your usb debugging is on before you run commands. If thats on try to just copy and paste the command instead of typing them. If that doesn't work then start over. Your gold card should be good.

I had to type it in about four times before it actually worked.

also i was wandering i downloaded attn1 hack kit to do this he just updated it the other day so i was wandering if something might of changed

You should use the most updated version of the hack kit in case something important has changed, also make sure your not typing hackerize- ace clean" as you did above. It should be hackerize-ace clean, no space between -ace like you had put.

alright i tried it like that and i got the same error

Are you using Version 8 of the hack kit? if so just copy "hackerize-ace clean" and paste it in case there is any miscommunicastion and let me know.

yes i am using version 8 of the hack kit and when i enter it it still says no such file or directory

I had the same problem the first time I ran it and it stopped for some reason. Tbh I think the "clean" action just kills the adb server and restarts it but I could be wrong.

ya im just not sure what to do at this pointe since its not working

I had to redo the hack kit a little while ago and I didnt do the "clean" step just did adb kill-server and then adb start-server. I havent had any problems and everything is fine but thats just me, there still is a possibility it can mess up your phone im assuming.

No.. your not doing anything wrong the command runs in the background and doesnt return anything... if you keep running again and again it wont do anything cus you already cleaned..
just continue to the next step

Pretty sure the 'clean' part just deleted unnecessary left over files so you are probably fine if the rooting worked.

my S wont turn off

so im a previous iphone user and need something new to play with......i follow the instructions to root with visionary but my S is always on and wont be S-off.......what do i do?
Visionary can not perform S-OFF. People tried to come up with 1-click app to do that but it's not possible, at least right now.
Follow this guide to make it happen. It's not as hard as it looks.

Hi guys, my girlfriend just got a MT4G today and I'm having problems getting s-off too.
I've tried all methods and nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions? If you need more info just ask, but like i said, i've tried like three different ways and none work. I'll edit this post soon and add what common errors im getting
I couldnt get it done with Visionary r14, instead of getting the option screen when I opened it, it went straight to the rooting phone screen and just didnt work
I found r11 and used it instead and that solved my problem, the rest of the process went easy

I had the same problem. I used one way to turn S-off when I had the myTouch 4g with the radio 0.85.xxxx. When I had my phone swapped since I made up an excuse to get the good screen, the radio was 0.86.xxxx. I tried to follow the same steps as I did with 0.85.xxxx, but wouldn't work. So I ended up trying the ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ROOT and it worked. I put everything unlocked even SIM. THen I used VISIONary r14 to have it root then perm root.

Seriously people, don't you read threads? The rooting method is very easy and does not require ADB or the SDK. I've rooted *5 PHONES* on the first try by reading and just following the damn directions.
You temproot, run a couple of commands in terminal, reboot, temproot, permroot, and go on your merry way.
If this doesn't work follow the guide for gfree and that will do it.
Here, I made a SUPER-STEP-BY-STEP guide. If this is still too complicated for you then you really shouldn't be rooting at all, as it requires some basic knowledge of how to use a computer and the phone. And I mean BASIC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225
This one is pretty damn easy, takes all of 10 minutes. Use the Terminal Emulator method.
Read the first post all the way through before you start to make sure you understand the entire process. In a nutshell, here's what happens:
*Download root.rar and extract to be a folder called ROOT on your sdcard. The ROOT folder should not be inside any other folders, so it will be sdcard/root.
*Download a file manager from the Market. Linda File Manager is my favorite.
*Download Terminal Emulator from the Market.
*Download the Visionary.apk file from the link in thread.
*from home screen - MENU, SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, ALLOW INSTALL OF NON-MARKET APPS. Make sure the box is checked. ALSO UNCHECK FAST BOOT.
*Open linda file manager, navigate to visionary and click on it to install.
*Reboot. This will take a minute.
*Open visionary, check the box for SET SYSTEM R/W AFTER ROOT.
*Hit button for TEMP ROOT. Give it a minute.
*Open Terminal Emulator and type THE ITALIC COMMANDS, pressing ENTER after each.
su
*You should get a prompt for SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS. Click ALLOW. Back in Terminal, continue with these commands, typing them EXACTLY as they appear and pressing ENTER after each line.
cd sdcard/root
sh root.sh
*Now just wait a few minutes.
*When it's done, shut down the phone.
*Hold volume down + power until you get to a white screen. If it says S-OFF near the top then you're almost done. If not, repeat the previous steps until you do see S-OFF.
*Reboot.
*Open visionary, make sure SET SYSTEM R/W AFTER ROOT is checked.
*Click TEMP ROOT.
*When done, click ATTEMPT PERM ROOT. This might take a few minutes. Your phone will reboot itself when done. (I think)
When you boot back up you should be permanently rooted and you are ready to install a custom ROM if you like.
*To verify that you are rooted, open Terminal Emulator and type su. If you get the # sign and a notice that superuser permissions were granted, then you have succeeded in rooting your phone. Congrats!
Installing a custom ROM is another procedure so do a search for the guides on those procedures.

Assuming you're doing it correctly, some phones have trouble. Look for the guide titled ULTIMATE S-OFF, CHECK OUT EVEN IF ALREADY ROOTED.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
The gfree method should do the trick.
I got it working after 4 hours -__- I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it, but once i removed the sim card it seemed to work. Got s-off and permroot and even flashed cm7 nightlies afterwards with no problems, then put the sim back i n

[Q] My half assed root.

[/FONT I thought of myself as a well seasoned vet when it came to rooting. I have had a G1 and a Mytouch 3g. Since I now have the Mytouch 4g I would like to root it completely. Visionary is only part of the process. You need a couple more files and a working knowledge of abd and using terminal on your Mytouch 4G:
files:
wpx.ko
hboot_dhd.nb0
Visionary
A Terminal app (I use SUFBS)
Commands:
push the above two files to /data/local using ADB
adb push wpx.ko /data/local
adb push hboot_dhd.nb0 /data/local
run visionary and get temp root
Terminal:
Open up the terminal app and type in “su” to gain root access
Once the “#” appears, type in “insmod /data/local/wpx.ko” and hit Enter. You should get a “function not implemented error,” which is what you want.
This next terminal command will turn your device into a nice paperweight if you mess it up. If you do mess it up, don’t blame me, this all on you!
dd if=/data/local/hboot_dhd.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 and hit Enter.
Close the terminal app, now open up visionary again. Run temp root again. You might get the “device already rooted” notification, this does not matter, what you are doing is locking in root.
Go back and open up your terminal emulator once more time and request root by typing “su”
Once you get the #, type “sync” wait about three minutes and reboot.
You should have permanent root with the security off (S-off), to check : With the phone off, hold down volume down and power to open Hboot. The top line of the screen should have “S-off” at the end.
I wanna try this step soooo bad but i'm scared ****less I brick my fone. Considering I only got it for just 2 days now.
I did the terminal process with terminal emulator 4 times & whenever I bash the root.sh file, the wpx.ko gives me trouble. Did it this morning @ 4am so I cant quite remember the exact statement it came back with

To help with the cmd prompt, down load this file, and place it in the same folder that the adb binary is in (it's a file, named adb). Double click this file, and it silk open a prompt in that folder...

There are 4 or 5 complete guides in the development section. Just read through them all and pick the one you're most comfortable with. With the scripts provided it makes it pretty safe.
I've rooted 4 phones with no issues.

I need help with roms

I cannot flash roms or kernel. It won't boot recovery!!! I have stock rooted shift. How do I make a custom recovery? And install roms and kernel
Probably the easiest way is to download ROM manager from the market. The first option in the app is flash clockworkmod. Very fast and automagic. Have fun! Happy flashing.
I have that and kernel manager. Flashed it twice after it didn't work the first time. It hangs up on the HTC boot logo after I try to boot recovery
turn off your phone
power it on while holding vol down.
does the first line say S-OFF or S-ON?
S on I didn't do nand
I've tried a few more things. I used visionary to root my phone. Was that the wrong thing? It all works. But I can't flash. Lol

Alright!! Thank you all who have been helping. I have only a few more questions because I'm a little slow ^_^ ok, first. From the emulator I typed Su and gave permission.... now what? I looked for the commands in development and couldn't find. I'm trying to turn s off. I don't care so much about perm or temp root right now as long as I get that annoying s on to be s off. Lmao. I need commands please!!! Assume I have no access to a computer!

the commands given in that thread is the exact ones you would need, but since you're using a terminal emulator in your phone, you don't need adb.
do step 1
skip step 2
do step 3,4,5 via your terminal
do step 6
extra points:
once you're perma-rooted, you can go straight to installing Rom Manager, and flash clockworkrom that way.
then reboot your phone to recovery, and do a nandroid backup.
once that's done, you're all set.
Thank you dude!!!!!!! That rocks!!! I'm at work and I'm doing it right now. This is way more important than work ^_^ anyone else addicted to Android?

When the perm root method was finally developed I was at work with no access to a PC. I ended up rooting via phone terminal just because I couldn't bear to wait a couple hours until I got home.
^ Shift Faced
Could someone explain step 1 and 3 for me if I'm using android terminal emulator. I tried it but nothing happened. My device is temprooted. I download the file into the download folder. I use root explorer to extract it... where?? I tried a couple places even the root folder (Its not in SD card) then once its good how do I check the md5 from the terminal. I type Su to get permission then what? The string in the post doesn't seem to do anything no matter how I type it. Or maybe I just don't know the command. I'm fairly new to this kinda thing. :/
That's awesome. I'm feeling the same way. I don't want to wait for a computer it might be a few weeks I'm impatient now lol
Wait, I got part of it. I just need to know how to save the file to the root of the SD card and then how to check the md5sum. Once I know that I'm good to go

Make sure your antivirus on your computer is disabled and downloaded either the hack kit or one click again and start at the point after the gold card.

If you are using Vista or 7, are you right clicking on the .exe file and selecting "Run as administrator"?

im a noob so let me tell you how i d/l it. D/L it was winrar file and i extracted but i can not get run admin when i right click also on vista.
The hack kit should just be a zip file, which you could double click on it and extract all. Once extracted you will see the hack ace command script file and the effen manual. Open the effen manual and read it a few times. It is very easy but you will familiarize yourself with the procedure. You can uninstall HTC sync after you have installed it. You just need the USB drivers. The manual will explain this. You should be able to right click on the hack ace command script and select run as administrator. Then follow along with the manual and the on screen prompts.

thanks for the help now for some reason cant get a gold card
Try formatting your card, fat32. You will lose all data so back up first. There should be information in the manual.
if after you format to fat32 like wolf said and you still cant make your goldcard, use bubby's guide to make the goldcard and then use the hackkit to do the root.

antivirus is off as in disabled, or totally uninstalled? cause if you download the program even when the antivirus is only disabled weird **** happens, you have to have AV totally off the comp.
