Lately I've been editing all my apps from the market using mixpix404's tips. I just wanted to know is it possible to pull stock apps to edit and if so could someone give me the code to pull and re-install?

It's mixpix405... get it right! jk... but seriously!... jk
As for editing stock apps, I think you'll have to edit an update and flash the update to your phone. In a theme, the stock apps are in the system/app folder... Use 7-zip to open the archive, edit, resign, reflash... I havent tried it, so I can't say for sure it works... And I dont really know how else to do it.
You may just be able to extract, for example, the Calendar.apk from the update.zip, edit it, and then use conventional means (appmananger, astro, ADB, etc) to install it, but I have absolutely no clue.
Whambam I've got it! You don't need to be deoxed and all that jazz. To use the hulu app you will need the modified version of flash. But to watch on the browser you can use the newest version of flash.
Step 1. Open the browser app
Step 2. Clear the url and type "about:debug" then press go (if you did it right nothing will happen)
Step 3. Press menu>more>settings
Step 4. Scroll down UAString then select" desktop"
Tada!!!!
Edit: apparently you still need the modded Hulu flash

Nope no go.
Does not work.
Strange because it works on my friends moto x and my incredible but I will admit I am running the modifed flash but my friends x is using the stock flash.

It works on the modified flash. I have not found a modified version of the newest flash yet.
didn't work for me... Where can I find the hulu app? I searched and couldn't find it in the market.

Modifying flash is quite easy. Just edit libflashplayer.so and change "AND 10,1,92,10" to "WIN 10,1,82,76".

Sorry, not going to post an apk. I've been down that road and you get nothing but grief from everyone for whom it doesn't work.
Again, it's easy to do. This is the Development forum. I would expect folks posting here to be familiar with the basics of packing/unpacking/signing apks and using a hex editor.

Not sure what version this is, but just from the size of the included libflashplayer.so file it's clearly not the latest.

Wish I was, but I'm not. Maybe now is a good time to learn. Trouble is my primary computer is a mac so a lot of the "how to's" are not applicable. I'll look around though, always willing to learn.

No, that's version 10.1.92.8. The latest is 10.1.92.10.
I have the latest version patched. I will post it tonight when I get home. Unless someone else has it who can post it.

Unpacking the apk and isolating the file was no problem. But opening the file in a hex editor (I just tried an online one) produced a bunch of binary code I could not understand. Maybe when I get off of work I'll have more time to try and figure this out.

Actually, I found what seems to be an even better way. With this method you can keep the newest version of Flashplayer (10.1.92.xx from the Nexus/Market), but enable Hulu. Download the HuluPack 2.zip above. Open it and extract the install_flash_player.apk from the zip. Now open the .apk (explore, not try to isntall, Astro works well here), and find the libflashplayer.so file inside the lib folder in the .apk. Extract this to your SD card. Open root explorer, navigate to /system/lib and rename libflashplayer.so to libflashplayer.bak or cut and paste it to your SD card, whatever, just make sure you don't delete it. Now copy the libflashplayer.so from the HuluPack2 install_flash.apk into /system/lib. You can do all this whether Flash is part of your rom or installed using an apk, and you can do this without rebooting the phone. After copying the libflashplayer.so to /system/lib, websites will recognize your flash player as a slightly older version of desktop flash, 10.52.x.x, and Hulu will work, but you will still get the benefit of better performance from the most recent flash player available.
Hey guys,
I think I accidentally deleted the people system APK?! I can no longer save contacts. Wondering what the best way to fix this issue would be without flashing back to stock rom. I am currently rooted and running stock 4.4.2 KK, but I have made a lot of MODS and am running the Galaxy Gear Manager for my watch which is a huge process to get running that I don't want to have to repeat.
Any help is mucho appreciated!!!
If you can find the apk somewhere install that. Otherwise flash the system.img from the factory image.

No, it'll reinstall all the system files. If you modified any of them you'll lose that but I doubt you modified any. This will only work if your bootloader is unlocked. If it isn't then you'll lose everything unlocking it.

Do you still need help with this? It's not that difficult to just pull the app and move it into the right system folder. Once you do that, change permissions to match the other apps, and reboot, you should be back to normal. I'll post the apk if you need it.

You can pretty much just download any ROM available, extract the Contacts.apk file (I think its in system/priv-app/) and put it on your device.

I tried that with one of the apk's I found, but I couldn't get it to work. I may have gotten a corrupt file though.
Here's a flashable zip in attachment (wipe Dalvik cache just in case) for Contacts.apk (with the .odex file)...
You still have ContactsProvider.apk?

He might not be in a situation where he can download a large file like a complete rom. He did mention being at work. Anyway, these should work:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/Contacts.apk
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/Contacts.odex
If you are deodexed, let me know, and don't use just the apk ^ there or it will force close constantly.
Just use a file manager that has root access (ES File Manager is a good, free choice, if you don't have another) and move the app and odex file to:
/system/priv-app
Make sure to change the permissions. The 3 Read options should be checked and the first Write option. If you aren't sure, just read the permissions of another app in that folder and match it. Then just reboot and should be back to normal.

Dumb question, but did you reboot?
If some of us who are happy with our phones and would rather not take the update is there a way to do that. I remember I changed a build prop but I am unsure if that still works. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Thanks Pete.
If you are on GB and are rooted you can use titanium back up to freeze "updater" and you will no longer get the annoying messages. Not sure for KK.
I am on kk...rooted / unlocked and I don't see "updater" in titanium back up...maybe its labeled differently?

Could you explain exactly how to go about freezing this? Usually when I freeze an app in Titanium Backup, I look at the list of apps in Backup/Restore, click on the one I want, and then freeze it. But this app is not in the list - also, the list doesn't contain .apk files.
Someone said to rename the .apk file, but if it's already installed, how's that going to help?
Thanks.

Not sure if the system checksum will fail on the renamed apk. But you may have to fix it before you take L if it comes. That is if you manually flash L it may fail due to the wrong name. Then of course if you do not fix the file you will never get L automatically.

Hey guys,
I'm asking for a couple more apks, for some reason, in between trying to update to 5.0 and all kinds of fixes to get root, and then coming back to 4.1, something got borked and my phone app doesn't work.
I was hoping someone could extract the dialer.apk and incallui.apk for me.
If you're rooted, on 4.1, and you're not sure how to extract apks, it's super easy.
Literally install an app called apk extractor, and just choose those two from the list, and it will do the job.
Alternatively, if you have a root file browser, you can navigate to system/priv-app and find the folders that contain both the dialer, and incallui, and just copy both folders to the SD card or some other memory.
If someone could share those with me, I'd be super grateful. Thanks.

I absolutely needed incallui.apk, I still had Teleservice, but thanks anyway. The other apk was the dialer, but that's alright, I'm using a replacement. Everything is working. Thank you very much!
The NEXT time I have to completely wipe and restore my phone, I'm gonna take some time to backup all of the stock apps, just in case. I've been trying to extract them from a system.img, but it seems to be next to impossible.
