I upgraded to 2.2 on Aria and I don't like it because I want my root back. I thought it would be fine and I could just root it off of 2.2, but I can't. Is there a way to go back to 2.1?

Sorry, but you should have read some of the many warnings here. At this point in time, there's no going back, once the official ATT 2.2 update is installed.

It's possible there will be a root fix at some point in the future, but I'm not sure it will be high on anyone's priority list.
i've heard that if you install the 2.1 rom, it will replace the unrootable hboot and then you can unrevoke it again and then install cm7. not sure if this is the case though. read around the forums.

attn1 verified in another thread in the General section that trying to use a gold card to downgrade by installing an older 2.1 version RUU was not successful on the Gratia/Aria. So if you have installed the AT&T 2.2 RUU you are stuck on it with no current way to root or downgrade.
Its super mean, and sucks big time..........but I laughed. Just a little.

Not trying to flame, but if you liked your root and wanted 2.2 why did you just not use Liberated FR008? And there may be a new root, but the whole point of that patch was to upgrade. But mainly remove root.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
It is possible to downgrade. Downgrading, however, will not bring your Aria to a rootable state. You can only downgrade the firmware, not HBoot. The previous (older) HBoot is required to root.

My understanding is that if you have the stock ROM it will allow you to download the update. If you are rooted you can download it, but not install it because you will need the stock recovery in order to do so.
Personally, I think I can deal with being non-rooted for a little bit in order to try out the new stuff. I already nandroid'd back to the stock ROM, but still rooted ... going to put the stock recovery and such back on and see if anything shows up over the weekend
To a device with a custom recovery i believe

That is implied by my first line in my OP...however that is what an RUU is, haha
It's used to fix your phone or return it to stock to restore to factory defaults.
It looks like both the HTC and the Sprint support download sites do not have this posted since both support sites are still showing MR 2.27.651.6 and not this 2.31.651.7 file. Strange.
So, is your 2.31.651.7 Update file rooted???
No this is the official ruu...

No, they're two very different things, and it's critical that readers be aware of exactly what those two things are.
The OP posted a link to Sprint's executable RUU that takes your phone to the latest factory release, and breaks root if you're rooted.
The link you posted is to a zip file containing a rooted rom released by nfinitefx45 based on the latest Sprint update, along with a custom OC'd kernel he released specifically for that rom.
I have been rooted almost a year and haven't really been keeping up with rooting new RUU's. Is this newest one rootable by the FreshKitchen? I remember reading how Sprint removes root methods with updates.
I need to take mine in for warranty and want to make sure I can get CM back.
I am currently running CM6 Extremely Blue but was wondering if .7 is rootable via the one-click apk or other method just in case I ever run this on my phone for some weird reason.
Thanks. Was looking for this. I have to return my hero to sprint due to dust under the screen issues. Just hope they don't send me a refurbished more crappy than the one I have.

I would just find the previous RUU files posted around here, run one of them and root from there. And you can always downgrade the RUU when you get your new one from Sprint.

You can not roll back to the previous version ruu after installing this. So after installing this I believe there is not way to root the phone until a "root" is released for this version.

Well mine is not rooted either mine was made specificaly for the one that have an S-OFF hboot, it will restore just like the ruu, just you can do it all from within your phone by flashing it from hboot. This is much easier for the S-OFF group of people out there that may been to take there phone in for service.
Hope that is clear to everyone

Nfinite, I think you're a little confused here. Please click on PTown's link. It takes you to the first listing in your sigline, which is your rooted version of Sprint's latest release, wherein you posted:
NFX Sprint 2.31.651.7 STOCK Deoxed/Odex
This is the New Update from Sprint this is a completely stock rom with everything from the factory included.
Included Extras:
Rooted
Busybox
SU
wireless tether
I believe you're thinking that PTown's link takes you to your RUU release, which is the second listing in your sigline.

sorry i can't tell you one or the other; however, i was curious why you're jumping on a hero instead of something like the lg optimus s which is cheaper and has gotten great reviews?
one obvious negative of picking another device is that the community isn't quite there for it yet, but... i know it is rooted at least.
also, if it's a matter of price, two of my brothers ordered their evo's from this site:
http://ordersprint.cellbenefits.com/ind/sprint/devices.html
the prices seem unreal, to be honest. but it might be worth looking at what they have available. much cheaper than direct from sprint and the lg ends up being $50 in your pocket after contract, rebates, and/or giftcards.
anyway, just a thought. i do love my hero, but this late in the game, i'd be looking to snag a slightly more modern device. or, maybe you could find one to buy from people in the forum. i know a lot of people have been upgrading recently (i'm up in a week or so, but plan to wait until after ces before i buy a new phone).
sorry for the off-topic question!

Rom Manager went on fine too.
Edit: My bad, I lost root after booting. I will try your root method. Sorry
Getting the S-off again is now trickier due to the new radio baseband.
why not pull the update off your phone change the script a little sign and flash through recovery
so the new update is worth keeping? I was planning on rooting my device to get the wifi sharing option that 2.2 has but i wasn't thinking and let the new ota update go through the other day. the only difference i've seen is more lag and more battery usage. opinions?
The only way to get WiFi sharing on the hero is through rooting the hero does have a native usb tether but u have to pay for any data u use on it

Funny thing is I have been with Android since the G1. I have yet to root any of my android phones. I know, I'm a noob. I'm trying to learn how to root my G2x recently but want to make sure I find something solid so my phone will work 100% or close to that. Now that we have GB, I would assume the devs are updating their ROMs so I'm reading up to see what's the new or hot ROM for the G2x. If anyone can point me in the right direction or have some time to school this noob - I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
