[APP] CritiCall - Never miss an important phone call - Android Apps and Games

We're excited to announce that our second application is now available in the Android Market!
CritiCall is designed to allow your phone to ring when you get calls from set contacts, even when your phone is set to silent.
Using CritiCall, you can select any contact as a "critical" contact and your phone will always ring when you receive a call from that person. Easy to turn off when you CAN'T get calls, and includes a customizable auto-resume feature.
Great if you have kids or if you provide professional services and can't afford to miss calls from important clients.
Features include:
Phone rings when critical contacts call you – even when set to silent/vibrate!
Set as many "critical" contacts as you want
Set custom times for each Critical Contact
Groups
Unlimited number of groups (friends, family, work, clients, etc)
Unlimited number of contacts within each group
Custom settings for the entire group change the settings for all contacts in the group
Quick and easy to turn off if you CAN’T have your phone ring
Adjustable Auto-resume so you never miss a call
Auto-resume override if you don’t want CritiCall to Auto-resume
Volume control
Customizable defaults to see the information you want to see quickly
There's a free trial version which is fully functional, but which expires after CritiCall overrides the phone's volume settings 5 times. The full version is $0.99.
Give it a shot and let us know what you think. We're already working on features for the next update, but we'd love to hear your suggestions.

Thanks! Let us know what you think. We'll probably have a small update to fix some graphics stuff within the next few days. Also, we're looking at adding some features as well, so if you have any suggestions of things you would like to see, let us know. I can't promise we'll include everything, but we definitely consider all suggestions when deciding what features to add.
Cheers!

DL'd it. I've been looking for something like this. What are the chances of future updates will include a simple on/off toggle widget?

100% - It likely won't be in this first update which will fix some of the graphics, but it will almost certainly be in the next update after that.

Will this also allow SMS messages to ring?

Currently it only works for incoming phone calls, but we will be adding a user-option to allow it to work for incoming texts as well. We are also looking at adding an email option too.

Just wanted to announce that CritiCall now works for SMS texts!
Also, we've added an easy-to-use On/Off widget.
Other features include adjustable Auto-resume, groups, and customizable override times.
Check it out!

CritiCall

CritiCall v2.3 is now available in the Play Store and will be available in the Amazon Appstore as soon as its approved.
Version 2.3 adds customizable ringtones/text notifications as well as a backup/restore option. We also fixed some bugs.

A couple other notes - Recent updates to Handcent, GoSMS, and other 3rd party text apps may block CritiCall from providing text notifications. If you are experiencing this issue, please email us at [email protected] so we can fix this problem.
Also, we are working to make CritiCall work with WhatsApp as well as working on quite a few new features. If you have any suggestions for features you'd like to see, post them here.

Version 3.0 now available in the Play Store
Finally, an update.
We've had some issues getting this latest release finalized an updated to the Play Store, but its finally done.
CritiCall version 3.0 is now available for download from the Play Store.
What changed -
Completely re-coded the app to make it more reliable across all devices. Fixed reported bugs. Updated the UI and graphics to be more consistent with the ICS Holo-theme. Improved usability. Added features to the Pro version - Emergency Call Override and Repeating Reminders. Removed the 5 override limitation from the Free (formerly Trial) version.
Overall the quality of the app has been upgraded significantly and will let us make future updates more timely and add user-requested features. Right now we are working to implement a data backup/restore option which will be included in the next update. Please let us know what you think and feel free to make suggestions for improvements/new features.
For some reason the images are still showing up full size below even though I've resized them.

Was this app pulled from Google Play??

Yes, we temporarily pulled CritiCall to fix a reported Force Close bug and also it wasn't overriding the volume on certain devices. We've fixed the force close issue and we should have a fix for the volume override bug in the next couple days.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but please email us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to send you the previous version to install on your phone.
Thanks!

After a longer than expected hiatus...we're back!
CritiCall 3.1 is now available in Google Play.
A couple quick things - on some phones you may have to set a custom ringtone in the Notification Settings in order to properly override the volume. This is a function of how these phones (and version of the OS) handle "Silent Mode."
We've tested this version extensively, especially on devices which experienced issues with version 3.0. However, we definitely want to know if anyone else has problems so we can fix them.
If you notice any problems with the app, email us at [email protected]. We respond to EVERY email within 24 hours and most emails are responded to within an hour. You won't experience better customer service - I guarantee it.
CritiCall is now free and unlimited
CritiCall Pro removes ads and guarantees access to all upgraded features

CritiCall 3.2 now available in the Play Store
This update mostly addressed reported issues and bugs so that CritiCall works more consistently across all devices.
If you've had a duplicate ringtone issue, there is now an option to fix the double ringtones. Also, selecting this option will allow your phone to play any custom ringtones you have set for your contacts. This option may cause CritiCall to not override the volume properly on some devices depending on how they handle "Silent Mode", so test it out first to ensure it works.
We will be adding in the ability to set custom ringtones for individual contacts, making the day/time settings more granular, and re-add the widget in an upcoming update.
Please let us know if you experience any issues.
Thanks!

Thanks! We're going to keep improving CritiCall and adding features, so we welcome any and all feedback, comments, suggestions!

I have already discussed the option of Tasker integration with you - and you replied that you are considering it. THANKS!! Just figured I would post that here as well which could possibly drive further discussion
Also - are you able to bring back the widget or create a shortcut to control On/Off?

I join that question, can't find it...

Thanks

Sorry for the lack of updates! I've been very busy. 0.8.0 introduced a lot more bugs and instability than I had expected but pretty much everything should be fixed in 0.8.0.7. works on my samsung galaxy s, however after clicking the pickup call button, i still have to unlock it the basic way (Slide it) to listen to the call. Is there anyway to disable that?
anyway to make the caller pic bigger like on the iphone
finally, a decent app works perfect on the htc evo with no problems,
would be a nice to customize the answer and end buttons so it goes well with peoples themes etc.
but good job dev.

This feature is planned for the full release, along with many other customizations. The current version is 0.7.9.1 so I recommend you download from the market, as it includes an automatic crash reporter to help me sort out bugs and other fixes.
I have found a much better way of overriding the incoming call screen (sort of hacky right now) which will be implemented in version 0.8.0. This will make the app much more stable and efficient and the call screen will open much more consistently.
Also included in version 0.7.9.1 is the addition of admob ad banners on the settings page (there are NO banners on the actual call screen). This is mostly to support the development of this app during its beta stages. Eventually the app will be paid with the possibility of a free, ad-supported version. The paid version will not be appearing very soon, though, as the app is far from ready. Keep in mind, the beta versions of this app do not represent the final product. They are only for feedback and testing. Thanks
Awesome application!!!

Sweet! Also, just a question. I see the Google Code page has a Source tab but there's nothing in it. Is this going to be Open Source or is that tab showing just an accident?
EDIT: Just saw you plan a paid version, so I doubt you're releasing the source. Carry on!
Has Google Voice text option been added yet? I don't have texted on my normal number.

Do you ever get missed calls and wonder if they were important or just “hang up calls”?
RingDuration is an Android app that shows you exactly how long your phone was ringing, for incoming and missed calls.
Also features a handy (optional!) taskbar notification to quickly show you the latest calls, right from the notification window!
For example, some people tend to call you and hang up without giving you a chance to answer; now you can catch them in the act! Or consider an unusually long ring time could mean an urgent call you missed.
Note: RingDuration supports multiple languages. Want your language featured in the app as well? Contact us to help translate!
Features
Simple and easy to use
Ready to use right out of the box – No configuration necessary (actual box sold separately )
Enhanced notification window – View latest missed calls quickly right from the notification window. See our screenshots!
Fun Badges – Who is your Most Determined Caller? Who will get The Speedy Award?
Minimal resource use – There is no process running in the background, no services to slow down your device – RingDuration is active only briefly during an incoming call, and of course, when you use the main app.
Safe to use – No dangerous or suspicious permissions. RingDuration does not require a rooted phone, nor does it require dialing permissions. Therefore you can rest assured RingDuration will not misbehave.
Call them back quickly - Optionally, dial back right from the app. Note that this does NOT require dialing permissions; RingDuration will bring up your system dialer and automatically fill in the number, so you can check, confirm, cancel or change the call.
Highly configurable – Easily tweak RingDuration to work exactly the way you want it.
If you like our app, please help us with a good rating and comment in Google Play. There's nothing quite like knowing our efforts help someone out there, and it gives us the motivation to continue
Support
If you run into any problems using RingDuration, please tell us and we'll do our best to help. As you probably know, it's not possible to provide support through Google Play- so contact me directly either at elemris.com/contact-us or here on XDA. Thanks for your feedback and support!
Download for free from Google Play:

Nice. But can you make one by which we can give a missed call? I mean, an app that automatically disconnects an outgoing call after a few rings.

Can't you just dial normally and press the End Call button whenever you want? Or did you mean something else?
Elemris, Thanks for this. Have been using it for a while now, but just came in to thank you
And of course, (as with all thanks) make a request too!
Would it be possible to call back the person by clicking on the line in the logs or call the last caller by clicking on the item in the drop down notification? Not necessary but maybe useful. Don't bother if its a pain and/or the app size is going to increase drastically.
Another thing is ... I normally change/update my rom quite often. Would be nice if after a change or update, when RingDuration is activated any time either manually or by a missed call, the call log is updated. That is, the previous missed calls are automatically picked up from the call log.
Thanks once again

Interesting as well, I'll see what can be done about it.
Thank you for the feedback!
We released version 2 of RingDuration. This release includes dialing functionality based on Paparasee's suggestion, and some other improvements. If anyone doesn't like dialing, you can choose what to do when you click a log entry via a new setting. Currently options are either to dial back, or to do nothing; there may be more options in the future.
It's important to note that we implemented dialing in a safe way- RingDuration does NOT dial by itself, it invokes the system dialer. That means the user gets the chance to confirm the call, so no accidental calls. Also, I am personally suspicious of apps that request "Dialing Permissions", so RingDuration will never request them.
The new version is now on the Android Market (http://market.android.com/details?id=com.elemris.ringduration) - check it out and let us know what you think!
New update release
New release!
Added a setting to let you change the FONT SIZE in the call log.
Faster loading, optimized screen layouts (to developers: try the new Android Lint, it's very useful).
Lots of minor fixes and internal updates
Just installed on my Dads so he can see if i was just ringing for a call-back or to really reach him
Like it so far!
New version - RingDuration 3.0
Hello, a new version is now live on the Android Market.
This is version 3.0, a major release with plenty of fixes and improvement:
New "Fun Badges" - find out who your Most Determined Caller is, and who gets The Speedy Award!
Complete rewrite of data storage - more efficient, supports larger call logs. NOTE: Old RingDuration log entries will NOT transfer to the new version.
"Share" RingDuration with friends! Just click menu button.
Added Hebrew language translation.
"Clear Log" action no longer requires application restart.
Lots of other smaller improvements
This release turned out to pack more features than we planned... we hope you'll enjoy it
As of version 3.0, RingDuration fully supports multiple languages, and we now accept language translations.
Want RingDuration in your language too? Contact us to help translate it!
If you like our app, please help us with a good rating and comment in the Market. There's nothing quite like knowing our efforts help someone out there, and it gives us the motivation to continue. Thank you for your continued support!

Why yes I wonder how many people worldwide will recognize the reference?
More importantly, version 3.1 is now live on the market!
This update features:
Added full Greek translation.
Redesigned Help page- split into sections for easier navigation
Changed "Clear Log" button to a normal list option
Fixed a small issue with log "click action" default - you may have to re-select the setting.
Version 4.0
New version 4.0 released to Google Play today!
The major new feature is Detection of Unknown Callers. Find out the ring duration for those hidden numbers! Also known as anonymous\private calls.
Other changes include several tweaks, fixes and optimizations.

[APP] [>= 2.1] Calendar Notifier (recurrent events notification)

This application implements the recurrent reminders for calendar alarms, which strangely has not been included in any version of Android.
With this application you can set the sound, vibration type, number of repeats and interval between them of each calendar event reminders, and even set separately the settings of each of the calendars.
This application is a battery, and runs only when it is displaying an alert.
Note: Remember to disable the standard application reminders in order to don't duplicate the first reminder.
BUGS
Please, in case of bugs you can post the description (logcat appreciated) in this
thread or directly by email.
PERMISSIONS
This application uses the next related permissions:
READ_CALENDAR and WRITE_CALENDAR
In order to obtains access to the calendar events

In order to run when the device boot ends
READ_PHONE_STATE
In order to known if a phone call is running (to autosnooze)

Hi, thanks for this good app. Please continue the good work.
I noticed a bug since the latest update: now I was forced to close the reminder window because it was stuck (either if you click snooze or dismiss, it's the same problem).
Before this update, the reminder window closed itself properly, just after you clicked snooze or dismiss.
Hope you can fix this.

I had that too! It needed to presses to dismiss and then it did an FC. I thought it was my humble little phone.
And it is fixed! Outstanding, great support.
The other feature I really appreciate is that the Notifier works on calendars that are not visible. I have one named "hidden" that has daily reminders of little things that I forget, but the Notifier picks up ALL alarms in ALL calendars.
Perfect app, more than I had hoped it would do. I bought the unlock, thank you

[APP][Android 2.3+] Simplest Reminder

I forget things quite easily so I have been using my phone for years to help me remember about certain tasks I need to do. I tried few applications but did not fall in love with any. They are often too complex and require too many steps to create a reminder / note.
Therefore I decided to make my own. I learned the basics of Android development and spent 2 months developing "Simplest Reminder". I was working on and off and only during my free time which was just a few hours a day at most.
Without further delay I present my first android application

If you like my application please consider buying the "donate version". Both apps have the same features so buying my app ($ 0.99) is just a way of saying Thank You for my hard work.
UPDATE, October 16 2013: Donate version has just became PRO version with new, exciting features based on user feedback. Simplicity has not been compromised but functionality has been greatly improved.
It is available at the same URL: Simplest Reminder Pro so that anybody who donated to me gets free upgrade. Thanks to the bunch of you who supported me with nice words and especially those who bought my app! I hope you all enjoy the new features
Here is a list of new features in the Pro version:
- Recurring reminders. Choose between daily, weekly, monthly, or annually
- Pop Up dialog. This can be disabled in Settings
- New, analog style Time and Date pickers inspired by Google Calendar's app
- Self-repeating reminders. Reminder will repeat itself every 10 minutes so you don't miss it. This can be disabled or interval can be changed in Settings
- LED light notifications. This can also be disabled in Settings
- Swipe notification away to delete reminder. This can also be disabled in Settings
- Swipe notification away to dismiss recurring reminder
- Help screen
- Improved user interface and performance

UPDATE, October 17: APK for free version uploaded as per user request. This is for people who can't use Google Play for any reason.
UPDATE, October 18: Version 1.8 of the Simplest Reminder Free has been released. I refreshed the looks to be as nice as the look in the Pro version. I updated the screenshots in this thread.

Pro version now has Pop Up dialog option.
UPDATE, Dec 2 2014: Version 2.6.2 of the Simplest Reminder Pro has been released. I added new, analog style Time and Date pickers inspired by Google Calendar's app. They make picking date and time much easier and they look great too! I attached new screenshots.
Thanks for your interest!
Hey this looks great! Gonna download right now and test for you.
I love the example you showed... "PAY YOUR BILLS!" hahaha
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
Thanks lurtis. I really appreciate that!
I'd download it, but I can't. It's not available in my country.

Hey Teadious. What country are you in, if I may ask. I can enable it. For now only US and Poland are enabled. The reason is that my app uses this time format: 12/25/2013 which is standard in the US but not other countries (not even in Poland but I enabled Poland because other tester is there )
Thanks again for your interest.
EDIT: I enabled ALL countries. It will take couple hours for the changes to take effect.
I'm from the Netherlands, I'll try the app out for you now

PM me if you need help
I love this app! :cyclops:
Thank You all for the support. In just one day the number of installations went from 6 to 24! Awesome.
I spent few hours recently trying to find a very frustrating bug in my application that was causing reminders not to go off under certain circumstances.
I found a potential issue, fixed it and pushed updated version 1.2 to the Google Play yesterday.
I really hope that it will permanently fix it! However, if for any reason a reminder doesn't go off for you it would be very helpful if you could provide some details here or PM me (version 1.2 and up only).
Thanks!
EDIT: Just pushed version 1.3 to the market because there still was a bug. Third time a charm... Hope it is gone for good!
Today I pushed 2 updates to the market.
Version 1.4 is meant to put an end to the mysterious bug causing reminders not to go off (I am 100% confident I nailed it this time and it turns out it was not even a bug but rather a missing feature, lol - simply put, the alarms were not set after phone reboot [Android OS removes all alarms on phone reboot])
Version 1.5 introduces new option in the settings panel - now you can decide if screen should be turned on when reminder goes off.
Thanks for sharing your work!
A nice feature would be, if we can decide Yes/no Notification Sound per reminder.
So one is with notification sound as set up in settings, one without because of not beeing so important.

While this is a nice feature, I don't think I will be implementing anything that would add complexity or increase number of taps required to create a reminder. The main goal of my application is being the simplest to use out of all reminder applications in the market.
There are many great applications in the market that have all that complexity and extra features including colors, note priority, sound per reminder, vibration per reminder, repeatable reminders etc. The reason why I don't use those apps is because setting up a reminder takes a minute or so.
I realize that limiting the number of features in my app may turn some users away but at the same time I am confident that it will be appealing to users who expect mobile apps to be simple and intuitive to use.
With all that being said, I really appreciate your feedback and please keep it coming. I may actually build another application based on Simplest Reminder that would have whole bunch of additional features.
Will give it a try! Teamed up with NotifyMe or such, could be very useful indeed.
Nice app, but how hard would it be to add some sort of calender view when picking a date?
So instead of scrolling, you just tap the date/day.
Would that make the app more complex?
can I get an .apk? I don't always have an active internet connection.
Great app, but I'm afraid that U.S. date format does my head in...
looks great!
going to try this on my s 3 i9300 with Paranoid Android 3.00 )
Awesome, just awesome and it looks beautfiul!
Thank you so much!

[APP][PREVIEW - released]Knock Me! - When silence can't speak!

UPDATE B: A new version is Up on Google Play Store as well as in this post's attachements (Knock Me Preview - revision 3)!
What's New?
#1 The app will now be able to handle knock word activation by several callers simultaneously.
#2 Uses system contact picker for assigning a contact to a knock word in "Selected Contacts" mode.
UPDATE A: Preview Version is Up on Google Play Store as well as in this post's attachements!
Important Instruction for this preview version: The knock word has to be sent without any spaces in the beginning or end, I noticed that some phone keyboards add spaces at the end of the word when you hit the auto-suggested word. This will be taken care of automatically in next update.
THE VIDEO:
Hi All! This is preview of an App I recently created, temporarily named as, Knock Me! - When silence can't speak!

When was the last time you lost your phone in your room and you kept calling it just to realize that you had put it on deep silent mode or when was the last time you were so busy that you checked your silent phone after a long time to see a stack of missed call notifications? Well worry no more, I have got a cool little App for you. So the idea is that, let's assume one of your friend has been calling you, your phone is silent and it's really urgent for him/her to contact you. So what he/she can do is send a knock word via SMS, the word could be - "urgent". Once the SMS is received by you, the next time when he/she calls you, your phone will ring ONLY for his/her number irrespective of your phone's sound setting.
couple of screenshots of the beta version is attached with this post, please check it out, any feedback will be much appreciated, including App name suggestion!
As of now, the features of the App are:
You can set 'knock words' for either all of your contacts, or starred contacts only, or for selected contacts.
You can change the active time of a knock word, that is, once a Knock word is received via SMS, the time for which the App will allow the number to ring your phone could be set by user.
You can set different keyword for different contacts.
Additional feature in future version:
When a call is received from a person multiple times, the phone will automatically send an SMS stating that the user's phone is now in silent/vibrate mode and if it's urgent he/she may send an SMS "urgent" and then call to ring.
Checking for pattern of words in SMS.
Configure the sound volume to ring at.
History of contacts who used knock words
History of contacts who have been trying to reach you a lot of times but didn't use Knock words (most likely that they don't know about it.)
You may expect integration with WhatsApp and other services' messages as an option.
The working App has been developed, to check it out in action, your call is at this thread tomorrow and your knock word is 'knock me!'.
can u add youtube video review about this app?
Yes, sure, I will have a video of the App in action uploaded soon. I have a SMS pack to spare a lot of SMSs
Waiting Eagerly
Wow, great idea. I am using already Extreme Call Blocker to do some similar things but this is a great idea to block specific people.
One other idea is to add time slots in it (good also for a good sleep, I have some people who like to call or send text messages during the night )
Knock me?
I really like the idea. Here's a suggestion
When the word is received and the ringer activates, would we have the ability to set ringer level or will it be set to high.
Knock me!
Ha! Thanks for Knocking the thread!
I was improving the code for a better UI/UX. I am afraid I may not be able to complete what I intended to do since the creation of the thread. So I have decided to launch the App in its current state with a 'Preview' tag slapped on. Will be available in next few hours.
@Rinoceros, either I am confused by your idea or you have misunderstand the idea of the App. Anyways, please do visit this thread in few hours and try out the App.
@rickmatic, very nice suggestion!
Knock Me!
Looks great, can't wait to try it out.
Edit : wondering if there's a possibility if you can include/integrate whatsapp texts into this along with sms.. Sorry if it's a stupid question, not sure how exactly it works
Knock me!....up? Wait what!? [emoji85]
Love the idea alone! Would be extremely useful for everyone. Can't wait to try the app out! [emoji106]
The preview version is up!
The App's size will be significantly reduced when I remove the 'Preview' tag from the App.
@Aditya Srinidhi, no, that's a very valid question/suggestion. I also initially thought of that, it's possible to integrate with WhatsApp messages but as a side effect, the App will have to run in background most of the time, I will look into how can I provide that integration with minimum resource consumption. May be, I will keep it as an option.
Updated First post with a new .apk with some bug fixes. Please re-download if you had downloaded the initial version.
UPDATE: Knock Me! is now live on Google Play Store, download to receive automatic updates! And oh don't forget it's a preview version, rate accordingly
@Minions_Army and others, I have added a video showing the working of the App in the first post, check it out and try out the App while I prepare to bundle features for next update.

New update
Hey Guys! I am just done with a new update. The app will now be able to handle knock word activation by several callers simultaneously. And the App may be ready for daily usage (you tell me.)
While it will be up on Google Play Store in a couple of hours, I would like to get some suggestions from the community. Apart from the feature to let callers activate knock word through messages on WhatsApp, I would like to in what direction this App could go towards in terms of feature.
I was thinking of this idea, if the App is installed in your friends/contacts phones, you will be able to search 'their' phone's contact database for a particular number, say you received a call from xxx-xxx-xxx number and now you want to check if it's saved in any of your friends phone. Once found, the App will list the different names with which the number is saved in your different friends' phones without revealing the source of each name.
Please let me know what you think about the idea and also suggest me anything you have in your mind.
New version is up on Google Play Store as well as in the first post! I consider this version good enough for daily use, but again is it? (You tell me!)
What's New?
#1 The app will now be able to handle knock word activation by several callers simultaneously.
#2 Uses system contact picker for assigning a contact to a knock word in "Selected Contacts" mode.
