[Q] Good Hardware Soft Keyboard? - Android Apps and Games

I'm looking for a soft keyboard for my DROID 2. I want one with as good hardware support as the Moto Multitouch keyboard. It works wonders, but I don't like the software one when I don't have the keyboard out. I tried Swiftkey, Swype, BetterKeyboard, Smart Keyboard, and I think a couple others. None of them worked as well as the Moto Multitouch keyboard. I did recall enjoying the HTC keyboard on my old DROID Eris, would that work?

I've tried the Droid X keyboard and Swiftkey and SmartKeyboard both kill it in terms of raw typing speed due to corrections.
Yes, the HTC IME should work.. shrug

Where could I get the HTC IME mod?

Swiftkey vs. Swype vs. Multitouch

What are are you using now and which do you think offers the most advantage.
Swiftkey with its learning and memory
Swype well with the swyping
Multitouch with the well multitouch lol
im currently testing swiftkey and am still not decided if only they could all be combined into a mega keyboard lol.

I've tried all three and currently using Swiftkey -- but I don't like any of them. I'll be switching back to the regular HTC_IME. I'm perfectly happy with it and it does everything I want.
Tried em all.. Liked swype the best but swiftkey is pretty nice too.
I'm a fan of SwiftKey. I've tried Swype and just couldn't get the hang of it. I still have it as an option though for an input method.
I downloaded swift key and didn't see a benefit.

I've been a huge Swype fan for a while (was even on the beta) so needless to say I'm in love with it.
I just installed SwiftKey and Droid X keyboard today. I did like SwiftKey but it takes a bit for it to start learning. It's really good though and the font it uses for the keys is awesome.
Droid X (multitouch) keyboard is really good as well. It looks good and I can type super fast on it (though no where near swype status).
I wish I could just combine all of them into one. Or at least give SwiftKey multitouch capabilities.
At the moment I'm using multitouch just for the cool factor but I'll probably end up switching back to SwiftKey and then Swype once I get tired of slower typing. Right now I just need a change of scenery.

Droid Multi Touch kb doesn't work with FroYo?

Is it just my phone, or does anyone else have the problem where using the droid x multi touch keyboard fc's with the FroYo update?
EDIT...running deodexed froyo with netarchy kernel and riptide theme.
I just installed it and yeah it is force closing on me too.
Have you played around with swype yet?...it is really bad ass.

If you haven't seen yet, the htc froyo keyboard now supports multi-touch, just throwing that out there.
I'm still using swype too btw, but the stock option is really quite nice.
Very true about the multi touch on the stock group sense keyboard. I like it. I however dislike the sound of the space and the enter. If anyone could verify the change it would be great.

NO it does not work. It will not work until Froyo comes out on the DroidX and someone ports over the new version.
Look at this thread, someone has a Droidx running 2.2
I still use swype (quite frequently). However, I still prefer pecking for really long posts for whatever reason.
And yeah...I did realize that the new HTC keyboard does have multitouch and a better word correction system...so I guess this keyboard is obsolete now

What is the perfect keyboard?

I've tried them all stock, SwiftKey, swype, SwiftKey x beta, smart, better keyboard, an all are mediocre. Does anyone have a really good keyboard? It seems that wp7 and apple hav flawless keyboards right now and its upsetting android is letting me down with quality.
Edit: notice how the spelling isn't even perfect when making the thread. (using SwiftKey x beta)

After getting used to it, the stock gingerbread has quickly become my favorite onscreen keyboard. I've used them all and I like Swype and Swiftkey as well, but I really dig the speed of the gingerbread keyboard. It's a personal choice of course, I hope you find your perfect keyboard!
Sometimes I find it hard to click on the right letter, but the stock keyboard is indeed the most responsive you will find.
Ultra keyboard also seemed ok to me, very customizable and has a tool bar on top of it that offers quick acces to basic actions like copy, paste, cut, settings etc from a single touch. It also supports gestures. I really enjoyed typing on it but it has this small issue that was a deal breaker for me: typing on the enter button requires a small pause to be clickable, I think the space button as well. I think its there to prevent accidental typing on them while you are typing words, but it really pissed me off.
The keyboard from HTC Sense also seemed to be very ok, I found it to be the most accurate on suggesting words, just google HTC_IME mod and give it a try.
Other then that they are all the same for me, except that the stock GB keyboard is definitely the most responsive one.
Swype and swiftkey are a no-no for me, people just think they are faster but its just a new type of typing, something new. Typing with 2 thumbs is much faster then swyping with 1.
I tried Swift Key and Swype, nothing beats the stock keyboard, really zippy
Tried everything. Stock is the best, except for the occasional ddouble lletters.

I have tried a few also. Ever since gingerbread keyboard on the market came out it been my favorite. Don't see what's great about iPhone / windows keyboards? Same stuff.
My one gripe is the android keyboard sound. I hate it. I know better keyboard has the iPhone sound which is much better.
I'm using the gingerbread keyboard. I think is the best for fast typing...
thanks for all the responses and after fast texting with all the keyboards I find stock to be the fastest but it does still have some bugs like the double letters idk if any of you have experienced that but hopefully ice cream sandwich fixes that! (if we even get it haha)

try it slide keyboard
Smart Keyboard Pro
Stock gingerbread is the best then the 2 best would have to be
HTC sense
I used to use stock Keyboard only
But one day Amazon App Store gave away Flex t9 keyboard app for free and I've been using it ever since.
You guys should all try it, I fell in love.
on an interesting side note, Nuance is the developer of the keyboard which is a company in which apple is interested in acquiring. not that I favor apple, but shows the quality of what this keyboard can be.
It's like swype + swiftkey put together
I just had to mention it since I guess I saw nobody else did.

Keyboards for the Sensation

Hello all,
Is their a better keyboard for this phone? I really dont like the ones it comes with. Also what about the spell checker? Is that part of the keyboard program?
What ones are you using?
Thanks
join the swype beta.

Once you go Swype, you never go back.
If you don't like Swype style, try the Gingerbread keyboard on the Market.
Smart keyboard

I've always liked the Gingerbread kb! But, Smart is also cool...
I only use swype when I only have 1 hand available, but I mainly use gingerbread keyboard pro from market cause I can make the spacebar super big on it (I normally miss it when it's small lol)

Is there a keyboard where you could turn the phone sideway and it shows you the keyboard as well as the screen? I don't like how it only shows you the keyboard.

Better Keyboard 8. I previously used it with the I/O skin & it could splitscreen.
Smart Keyboard FTW.

I tried all the rest, used Swype for a year, then switched to SwiftKey. Best keyboard hands down. You won't regret it. Free beta on the market.

For me and for now I use the flext9, which is powered by dragon. But I already paid for it a while ago. But I suggest use what others have already said. Try the beta swype for yourself and see if you like it. I have used swype and would get pissed at it when it got buggy...yes I know its a beta , but I would go to another kb. The GB kb is great for a plain jane kb, also, swiftkey X beta works well too.
If I were you, I would try all the free versions of kbs, starting with the most popular to what you like and narrow it down from there.
Smart Keyboard Pro. I've had it since my Nexus one days, and it's still the best.
Thanks everyone, I will check them all out after work today.
I wouldnt mind also trying a new browser, any suggestions? I know a little bit of whats out there but still learing.
Thanks again everyone.
only swype ... still best //
SwiftKey is the nuts. I think it's made from actual magic

You would think hTC stock keyboard would have arrows for this mighty screen
Swype FTW I never had a keyboard where I could type that fast.

ive heard a lot of good stuff about swift but i feel like my fingers r to fat for it so i make mad mistakes and i theres no option to turn auto-capitalization off?
SwiftKey is very good at predicting text even with fat fingers
As far as the browser goes, I prefer opera.

What keyboard?

Just got the HD, well, my first real smartphone actually. New to the Android world. Wondering what keyboard you guys using? I tried Swype, didn't like it, like the moto default better, but looking for alternatives. Thanks!

Take a look at SwiftKey, or look up how to get the 4.2 android keyboard.

If you don't like the stock look/feeI, try thumb keyboard. It's awesome and has a ton of customization if your willing to put some time into making it fit to how you type.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I like the stock keyboard because it has less customization options. I don't need any other language support, no auto-correct needed, nothing of that fancy stuff. Just a simple keyboard. I'm used to a Nokia E71 that's why it's a little difficult getting used to this. Tried swiftkey, reverted back to stock. Will look up the 4.2 and gingerbread and thumb. Thanks.
+1 Swiftkey. It's well worth the small investment.

If you didn't like SwiftKey keyboard (which I personally use and prefer overall) and you prefer stock, then I'd recommend the 4.2 keyboard, it's my favorite stock keyboard

Just got swift key, and wow its simply an amazing keyboard overall I never thought it would be fun to type again.
Droid RAZR HD (current)
LG Optimus One P-504 (For Sale)
A.I.type Keyboard Plus, excellent app!
I like Swiftkey mostly because it gives you nice big keys to type on. The prediction etc doesn't necessarily seem better than the stock Jelly Bean keyboard, but I prefer actually typing on the Swiftkey one.
In the end, there can be only the one, Swiftkey. lol
Try apple keyboard emulator. It looks great !
