Ok so prepare yourself for a story....
I was browsing around droidforums.net (i was using the D2 Rom flasher on my global and was using Liberty 1.5) and i noticed some D2 themes that werent on xda, so i found lime slice, downloaded, flashed (all other d2 themes had worked just fine while using the romer)
When the phone rebooted the theme had applied but now suddenly my sensors worked again but i had no data connection (regular signal just no 3g/1x) so i thought..hmm the theme mustve undid whatever the romer does. SOooooooo i reapplied the rommer annnnd bootloop. "wtf?" i said am i really gonna have to sbf? (had never done it before) so i tried getting to bootstrap..no luck. so i managed to get into stock bootloader (vol keys and power) hooked it up to the computer, started flashing sbf, it got to the verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy end, and said Flash failed, could not re-enumerate (WTF IS THIS...I DONT EVEN......) soooo after that, it was like bootloader had locked up and would even change when i unplugged/replugged the phone. so i pulled battery....guess what.....
Bootstrap Clockwork mod came up....yeah...wtf? so i was like huh, did the sbf work? *clicks reboot system now* ..bootloop. So i pulled the battery again praying the droid gods clockwork mod would pop back up...it did, so i tried flashing D2G fission rom. flash went 100%, reboot...bootloop. WTF? So i pulled battery and amazingly clockwork mod showed up just like clockwork (pun, pun, pun) and i was like f*** it, nandroid backup restore, did that to the oldest backup i had and pow, everythings back to normal from back in like december.
What on earth happened? why did the SBF fail, and why did the SBF failing lead to clockwork mod working? Also why did flashing a rom not work but an nandroid backup did? im blown away but relieved all at the same time.
Many reasons for sbf fail, some time just rename sbf file and it's work.
Next
Next time you have bootloop issues try data/cache wipes as well
I had a similar problem last week, I brick my phone and attempt to recover a sbf flashing but did not work , then enter in the stock recovery and flash an original rom and it does work, do not know the reason but only a flashing romm my phone back to life, the sbf not work ...

That^ happened
Wipe cache always! Wipe data when wiping cache only doesn't help.
well i wouldve, but during the bootlooping it wouldnt go to clockwork mod. thats why its so bizarre to me that after a failed SBF it DID go to clockwork.
you dont need to get into clockwork to wipe cache, you can easily get into the stock recovery by holding x when booting up the phone and then pressing the button with the magnifying glass to unlock the menu, then you just navigate through the menu with the volume keys and select wipe cache.
Yeah, i had done that before the SBF actually. it still bootlooped. what i dont get is why that theme broke it. any other theme has worked just fine.
Open the theme.zip and check for a /system/lib/hw/sensors.droid2.so file and a /system/build.prop file just the build.prop could maybe get sensors going.
I don't really know why sbf failed but it kinda sounds like you're lucky it did...at least you got back up and running a little faster.
If you get the sensor reset again, just flash the sensor.zip and to fix 3g go into testing mode select the top option and scroll down to the drop down menu and select CDMA auto prl.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Edit: I just downloaded the theme...it's the build.prop file, it breaks both the voice/data and turns the sensors on...I don't know why the Romer bootlooped you.

You should've wiped data/cache after the sbf from stock recovery. Almost always after flashing the SBF there is residual stuff from the previous ROM. Wiping data/cache clears that stuff and fixes the problem (usually).

So if i opened the zip, removed the build.prop and then flashed it again without the build.prop present would it work? Or would i need to replace the build.prop with one that is known to work?
That might work (deleting the build.prop) you might have to resign the zip, but its worth a shot. If you already ran the Romer, you should have the correct build.prop.
I'm not sure why that theme includes build.prop, though, may not be a requirement...hopefully.

how do i resign the zip?

Need anybody's help!
I rooted back in June, so here's what I had (from memory),
PBJ kernel, voodoo lagfix, and CWM recovery (might be old).
Anyway, I edited the secgps.conf in another post about fixing GPS. I made
a back-up of the original. Anyway, in the other post, he states to reboot,
then it will take awhile but after the first GPS lock, it should work faster.
Well...I rebooted, and it was still way-off...even worse than before. After 10 minutes, I rebooted...then got stuck with the Red Eye at boot.
I took out the battery, plugged back in, etc. Still stuck at Red Eye...even plugged into outlet...letting it go...still that way for over an hour.
Any method of getting in, and just replacing the secgps.conf with the original, then try rebooting? What are my options? Don't want to wipe out everything, especially if I have the voodoo lagfix?
Help! Thanks in advance,
Sara :$

well if it won't boot you can't replace the original file, unless you know about ADB and how to use it... you may need to go back to stock with the PIT file and start over, its not a huge deal and doesn't take long plus the roms out now are way better than the older ones
Dear anoninja118,
I actually let the phone sit for an 3 hours while I worked...it finally got through boot.
However, I thought I had lost root... most of my apps were gone...bloatware came back that I had frozen.... getting force closures on all the apps.
I went into ADB and I still have root (although Superuser app shows no listing ).
I put back that original GPS file rebooted...but nothing..things remained the same as previously stated.
All my files are all intact, have CWM, but it states no voodoo lagfix. Any ideas on how to repair? Can I just switch to another ROM? Keep my files/data?
Thanks,
Sara

well what rom were you running? you could just reflash it (shouldn't need to wipe) to return it to 'normal'... also if root was lost I can upload superuser.apk, just flash it and you'll get root back

Yikes...being new to all this stuff, and I did it a few months back, I don't believe I flashed a ROM. I think I did jt1134's kernel (Root / Voodoo Lagfix / CWM Recovery), then I might flashed the PBJ kernel that was available at that time.
Ironically, I've been having many issues with bluetooth and GPS problems recently, and heard that there was a new Gingerbread update. I wanted to wait for the official release, then have one of the programmer gods make a new kernel/ROM. I am not ready to jump to GB yet, and I want to keep all my files. I backed-up many of my apps with Titanium back-up, and saved via DropBox.
Anyway, I thought about reflashing...but if I do the jt1134 scenario...it's via Odin..won't that erase everything. I guess all my stuff is on the SD card, right?
Thanks so much for helping out a damsel in distress,
Sara

yes any Odin flash will wipe all data thats not backed up, if you use titanium backup for apps, export a contact list to your sd card that you can import later and you should be fine you'll just lose settings and things like login info for apps which you will have to set up again after... and yes you could do jt1134's method again or you could just flash debloated rooted stock EE4 in CWM (which will be exactly like what you're using) as well as one of the newer kernels, if you want to go the Odin route I would suggest Gummy FE 2.0 or Humble 1.6 as they are both very stable and tweakable/themeable plus come with all the goodies like root, CWM, custom rom and kernel (however if you wiped data and both caches in CWM you could also just flash the rom .zips right over what you're using instead)
Thanks for helping again. So, if I understand correctly, I could use CWM to get debloated rooted stock EE4, and I would still have my data?
Sorry I got confused with "(however if you wiped data and both caches in CWM you could also just flash the rom .zips right over what you're using instead)". So instead of Odin, I could just use CWM with wipe data and cache to flash a new ROM, correct?
That's what confuses me...when to use CWM and when to use Odin? Oh, should I update to the newest CWM (I hope that's easy) first?
Thanks so much...hate to bug you on the weekend, but I need to get this fixed before Monday for work!

you can use either one CWM or Odin, unfortunately you will lose data no matter what... I only said that you could use CWM instead since you already have it and it might be a little easier that way, but both ways will work
okay..thanks for helping. No matter what I choose...I'll cross my fingers!

You shouldn't have rooted your phone. Sounds like you don't know what you are doing at all. So I would google "how to flash with odin", then go back to totally stock.

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
I have a Shift that is making me sick
Here is the dilema:
I am able to perm root the phone but I cannot for the life of me get it to take a custom rom. I also cannot get the phone to revert to stock. I have tried RUU, I have tried PG06IMG.ZIP ... I have searched left and right, day and night .. I am ready to chuck this phone at the next person I see walking down the street!!!
I don't know what to do I just want to be able to flash custom roms and if I need to return to stock .. but I can't. All it does is go back to stock rom but it does not wipe any of my data, it stays unlocked and my banner stays the same. I have noticed my PRL keeps changing from what I have flashed, which is fine this one seems to be better.
Also it seems as if my recovery is not wiping dalvic and there is no stock recovery .. which maybe normal. I have tried everything I can think of .. any suggestions besides blind siding an innocent bystander with this hunk of junk!!??
Running 2.2 on 1.17.651.1
I just want to return to stock so I can start all over and try to get this to run customs.. at least. But before you say flash this PG06IMG.ZIP (234mbs) or RUU .. please note that I have tried. Unless yours has magical powers I have flashed it. It won't work.. I have tried factory reset, format all except sd card... I might just try that for the hell of it. Please help

I WAS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY SETUP ... IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ARE HAVING TROUBLE LIKE I WAS.
HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
Make sure you have the latest recovery. I had clockwork 2.0.5 I think was the version, it was not wiping dalvic or something this is what was causing all my hair to fall out.
I downloaded Rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery, the recovery now is updated to version 5.0 or something like that. I can now say it works and saved some poor innocent person from being pegged in the back of the head from a flying shift .. XD

The problem is all newer ROMs use Amend scripting which CWM prior to 3.0 doesn't support.
Hey,
So I was a victim of not enough reading and doing to much at one.
I had a rooted stock GB ROM on my D2G and through easy enough, BootStrap, CWM via Rom Manager and flash CM 7.1. All should be good.
WRONG
I got hung up at the red M logo and try various things to revert to stock b/c there was no way I was getting into the CWM recovery console again.
After failing at every corner a random and 10,000th battery pull I ended up in CWM.
Since the one thing I did right was a nandroid backup I was restored it and the phone booted. I then shut down, dropped in SIM (rogers) and booted back up.
Now everytime I reboot it takes me to CWM. Forcing me to hit reboot system now otherwise it sits in recovery.
Any way to have it not boot into recovery? Just boot normal?
Thanks.
First, if you are on Rogers in Canada - do not bother trying CM7 - doesn't work properly on GSM. Stock firmware will be much more useful.
Second - There are two CM7's (if you are determined to try it) - one is Froyo base (the one found on CyanogenMod site) and the other one is GB base. It seems you flashed the Froyo based one on top of Gingerbread thus you ended up stuck on red M logo. To fix the problem - you have to either try flashing GB base CM7 from CWM or (better) SBF and start over. Again - if you want Froyo based CM - use the 2.4.29/2.4.33 SBF. If you want to try the Gingerbread based one (check rootzwiki for more info), flash the GB SBF that was recently made available or flash 2.4.29/330 and OTA to 4.5.608. Root, CWM and so and so. But pick your CM7 package carefully!
But if you are not on CDMA - you better don't waste your time with CM7.
Thanks for the reply. The phone boots fine now.
One question tho.
I have some how lost the Accounts and Sync Option.
If I do a factory reset (from phone settings not recovery mode)will I loose root and will I loose the Gingerbread OTA update that was done on the phone before I got it?
Or do you know how to recover something like Accounts and Sync?
I am going to be sticking with the Stock ROM
Have you disabled any system apps? This could be a reason for broken accounts.
As far as factory reset, either from phone menu or from recovery, will not remove root or any other changes you might have made in /system. It simply deletes /data partition.

Thanks I discovered that I had deleted the "Setup.apk" without backing up.
Retrieved that app from another member and all is well.
So I finally got my wife to trust me the other night and went for it. All I did was install clockwork mod then root by installing Imoseyon's v.4.0 Kernel. This allowed me to keep all her data and use the voodoo lagfix as it has helped a few other friends phones that I have rooted. All was well till the following day when she complained her phone froze several times and needed a battery pull to restart. So being the compulsive person I am I had her go into voodoo control and uncheck the enable lagfix box. Once restarted she was unable to open any app that was on the SD card. They were just grayed out as if they werent even there. Now she is very unhappy.
I have tried to access the backup I created in CWM before i messed with anything. I get an error. Next I tried flashing the recovery files found here on XDA. Then restore back up. Still an error. So now i have flashe Tweakstock which works but she wants the phone back to stock. I tinker with my phones and friends phones constantly and can usually figure things out when they go wrong but I am really lost here. Any and all help is greatly appriciated.

Which version of CWM did you use?
5.0.2.7 I think, its blue and has a dancing banana in the backround.
In cwm, go to backup/restore, advance, and just restore data
Yes I've had bad luck with that version of cwm. I would try first using the 0817 cwm release to restore the backup. If that doesn't work, i would extract the tar files using 7zip or something similar on your pc, grabbing the files you need, and pushing them back to the proper locations.

So i flashed the 0817 version of CWM. All is well but it still wont restore. I have double checked and everything is in the clockwork folder on the sd card. How do I manually flash them using ODIN? Is this even possible?
So i will be a little more clear with what files I have in the backup folder. There is:
.android_secure.vfat
boot.img
cache.rfs
data.rfs
datadata.rfs
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.rfs

Didnt work. I do see my old backup and stock sms.
First of all, which cwm did you make your backup in? If it was orange then you have to restore with orange cwm. If it was blue then make sure you have the newest version of it. The older ones had problems with restores.
If it doesn't work then you might be out of luck. Maybe you had the old blue cwm and the underlying problem was that it made bad backups but restored good backups fine? I don't really know then.
I have had zero problems with the newest cwm by the way.

Well thanks everyone. I think im just out of luck. I went back to stock using the directions at the top of the Charge development section and now when I sign into the market on my computer to push some apps to the phone, it doesnt recognize it. Any clue here?
can you download apps from the market from your phone? If not try boot into cwm and do the following:
1. mount /system, /data etc.. all of them. Once done they should all displayed unmount in front of all.
2. wipe factory/data, cache, davik cache.
4. reboot and sign in with google account then try to download from the market.
To sort of finish the CWM question, CWM 4.X and CWM 5.X do backups differently. Thats why there are problems with restoring with the wrong one.
With that said, sometimes backups don't work.
Also, you flashed the wrong kernel. Imo4.0 is made for EP4P, not the current OTA for the charge, which is EP4D. Imnuts 0130 PBJ Kernel is the only one made for the Gingerbread OTA.

So I am going to type out my story so that nothing is missed. I really wanna fix my phone.
*I started out a regular user. Saw TWEAKED 3.0BETA and give it a try. When the final release came out I put it on no problem.
*YESTERDAY My phone tried to update facebook, got an error like "wrong file size" or something stupid, it crashed and I could care less.
*THIS MORNING I wake up and I had a text message from my GF with a picture attached, I couldn't see the picture like normal and downloading it downloaded a blank file!
*SO, I decided to BOOT into CWM and erase everything. Wipe Data. Wipe Cache. Wipe Delvik. Then proceeded to put in Tweaked 3.1 which came out not to long ago.
*After doing so, the phone would boot into where it normally would, but then the "first start wizard" would crash and force close, along with every other process on the phone looping their crashes over and over etc.
*SO, this time I tried using ODIN to flash back to 4D. Set it up just like IMNUTS post said to, including the PIT file, did it, and booted up. SAME THING. Every process would crash including the new user wizard.
After letting it crash loop for while it finally got silent enough for me to skip the wizard and see whats on the phone. ALL MY OLD APPS ARE STILL THERE. Pandora, and all my other apps, still installed, and apparently, CRASHING upon its boot use or whatever.
What do I need to do. Ive tried to ODIN flash every stock version of the charge rom and my apps are still there. Still kicking.
Worst part is months ago my mother (who I share the family plan with) had to cancel the warranty because we are all low on cash, and even worse I lost my job 2 weeks ago so I can't get a new phone.
HELP!!!! Thanks in advance!

*After doing so, the phone would boot into where it normally would, but then the "first start wizard" would crash and force close, along with every other process on the phone looping their crashes over and over etc.

have you tried mounting /data & /system before you did a full format?
also you should try to re-partition when you ODIN back... that FORCES
a partition format and then re-installs the OS

mounting /data & /system would change it to say "unmount?"
but as far as odin goes, I checked the box that said re-partition. I followed IMNUTS post down to the letter, all my apps are still there.

yes, make sure it says "unmount" after you choose those options...
CWM for the charge sometimes has troubles and need a little help
get going. did you have a *.pit when you selected re-partition? it
wont do anything unless you have a *.pit file...
I know it's not good to hotlink so I will give you the page link as well
as the link itself (as there are TONS of choices)

yes. I know on the EVO you needed to format a couple of times to make sure that CWM actually formatted correctly.
So you might wanna try that. also did you try going to
Privacy -> Factory data restore option?
mind you I think you do need the stock recovery option to do that but I know that works well.
Just ODIN a stock recovery.. it shouldn't touch any custom items you might have.

I can't get into the phone, it wont get past the setup wizard. all the applications force close over and over and over again. i did however use the factory recovery mode to wipe and that did nothing either....
I just set it to "unmount" on both the data and system and now im wiping. I remember when I first started with this after wiping once with CWM the next few times wouldn't take long at all because there was nothing to wipe....
so i did as you said with the data and system, wiped it, and nothing, damn crap still there.
it literally wont erase it

can you find a "clean" stock ROM and flash it and then wipe data through CWM and then go into the OS and wipe?
let me see if i cannot come up with something to wipe for you

you MUST install an OS after you use this or you will boot loop into recovery.
this purges everything in the phone. (Non-recursively deletes)
I haven't tried this on mine as I am beta testing... but what can it hurt for yours?

Flash that in CWM (I assume it's a CWM zip? Didn't bother to check) and flash Tweaked 3.1 full CWM afterwards. Have both on the card ready to go.
Edit: oops I meant 3.2 not 1
Edit 2: nope, definitely meant 1. What am I doing this morning?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
have that CWM zip and another installation ready to go on the root of the SDCard.
flash the wiper and then install the OS
doesn't matter what ROM you have...
Did that zip work?

haven't tried yet. i was given samsung pst so im trying that atm. afterwards as a last resort ill use what you mentioned.
okay, so i did it. put on cwm, both tweaked 3.1 rom and that wipe all file on the sd card. booted it up. ran the wipe file. then ran tweaked. booted up, and it stuck at the samsung logo. then i figured it was wiped, so i went and hooked it up for odin and put EP4D on it again so i can get fresh, and as soon as i got in all my apps were there, and everything was crashing one process after another.
i think the phone is borked and non recoverable.
Did you happen to mount the /system and /data first as previously mentioned?
That should have forcefully removed everything. Also on a normal basis (if not using a PIT) it won't erase /data ... it never has for me anyways.
How much time does it give you when you get the FC's until it happens again (the FC) can you try
To manually uninstall? ( Applications -> Manage Applications and then deleting then one by one? Or take titanium backup and run a batch to delete the applications in one go....
I'm sorry, I'm just trying to figure this out and help you the best way possible.

Also have you tried a non rooted ODIN? With a PIT?
