Hello, I've recently started using the Tasker app to try to get the hang of it, because i've heard it's pretty useful if it's used correctly.
I've posted on other forums and didn't quite get any useful advice.
Basically I want to be able to perform Freezing/Defrosting of certain apps like Titanium Backup does within a certain context of time like Tasker allows.
I just want app A and app B to be frozen from Time X - Y, then defrost at Time Z
If someone knows how to set this profile up on Tasker, please help me out, but I've been told by some that it's not possible.
So i'm posting this hoping maybe someone can develop an app like it? or clue me in on a solution?
Thanks.
Couple of sites I have extremely useful for Tasker are..
http://profileify.com
http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index
Both have premade profiles and walkthroughs on how to set them up.
If what you are looking for is not already there its usually not hard to find a similar profile and modify to your needs.
I've never tried it, but theoretically you could use the Locale Execute plugin (see here for examples of usage: http://tasker.wikidot.com/rootbasic) to do "pm disable" and "pm enable" commands at specified times (you can search XDA for more info on these commands).

Hi,
the LocaleExecute plug-in lets you start Linux commands from Locale. I wrote it to start QuickSSHd automatically when I reach home. It can also show user-defined Toast messages and it can start commands as root (provided your phone is rooted and "su" is in the PATH).
This is my first Android app, so please tell me if I made some mistakes. The plug-in is based on the Locale Toast Setting demo plug-in. The icons were made by Everaldo Coelho and YellowIcon, found here.
Good stuff man. Didn't test it yet but if it were on the market and cost a few bucks I'd throw down for it.
Thank you, d0ugie, for the encouraging words.
Now it's on the market: http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/de.elmicha.app.LocaleExecute/
The help page is available at http://elmicha.de/app/LocaleExecute/plugin-help.html. That page is also shown if you press the help button from the plug-in's menu.
Hey elmicha,
How do I find for this command: /data/data/com.teslacoilsw.quicksshd/dropbear/quicksshd_helper START
for the other applications?
Such as if I want to toggle the 2G settings in my rooted N1 froyo stock?
Or start the activity of a Task killer that kills all apps except the ignored apps?
Is there a way to find these locations/commands automatically?
I have Locale and I'm very interested in your app. It opens up a lot of possibility if the above questions could be answered and solved with your plug-in.
The "quicksshd_helper START" command has been proposed and implemented by the author of QuickSSHd. There is no standard way of executing a Linux command to do something in Android apps.
I don't know how to toggle 2G/3G with a Linux command. Every 2G/3G toggle widget only takes you to the settings screen, so it doesn't seem to be easy (or perhaps not possible at all).
To kill tasks you could try the Locale AutoKill Plug-in or use Tasker, which can kill tasks with a built-in function.
Oh, so unless I can contact the developer to give me the command, I can't do it alone?
I've tried tasker, and it can only kill 1 app at a time. I've used autokill plug-in but I just wanted to see if a real task killer could do the job instead. And the toggling of 2G/3G is only for phones with CM roms.
Hi, I hope I'm posting in the right forum here!
Several people have said that the following is possible, but nobody knows how to actually do it!
I want to make tasker switch my default browser whenever I have mobile data enabled. The task would be pretty similar to the "switch input method" function, but I can't figure out how to do this.
Is it possible?

May I bump this?
I'm searching everywhere for a hint of whether my task is possible:
I have a plan that consists of 200 minutes, and unlimited calling to my 'Fav 10'.. I also have a data cap of 1Gig. I would like for Tasker to keep track of my minutes used (rounding up as my carrier does not bill by the second), and once it reaches a defined count (200), it'd switch my default phone dialer over to Skype for ONLY the phone numbers that are not part of my Favourite Ten (or Dell Voice, however Google Voice is not available in Canada at the moment).
Skype rates are 3cents/minute, compared to 45cents for every extra minute on my plan; it is possible to $3+tac for call forwarding, but it doesn't seem to let me exclude callers from the feature. Also, I'm trying to live within certain budgets, as I am a student.
As well, I would like to be presented with an option box, to use either my native phone dialer or Skype, if I am approaching my 1gb cap (even a MB over will cost me a large chunk of money).
So... I'm searching and continuously searching... but I ask for anyone's help who may have.
Thanks a lot everyone..
Ryan
I think it's doable, at least some of it, but you would need someone who knows a lot about the logic syntaxes in Tasker and their limitations, which I unfortunately don't.

Thanks for the insight.
After only having Tasker for a few days, just by what I wrote above I can definitely see it as maybe possible.
But, as like you, I don't know enough of this to even begin, I'm afraid.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and bump it every so often until I give up, or until I'm told to stop

This is not an exact "set default application", but you can try this. Make the task with shortcut (and call it myBrowser). This task will run a different apps depending on the conditions (WiFi, Mobile Data, etc.).

Thanks, but it's over a year since I posted that, and actually started to do the exact thing you mentioned shortly thereafter myself

Open a web page in a non-default browser / changing the default application

Prerequisites:
1. Root access
2. Tasker installed
It depends on the Action/Mime Type that you want to change but for opening an url in a non-default browser this works - I tested it.
Create new task: Misc>Send Intent
Action: android.intent.action.VIEW
Cat: None
Mime blank
Data: "your url"
Extra blank
Package: com.android.browser or com.webbrowserminiapp or "the package of whatever browser you want to use"
Class blank
Target: Activity
The rest is peace of cake.
Please Help I've searched all over.
I have used NFC Task Launcher to create an alarm which it does fine. The problem is that every time I scan a NFC tag with an alarm it adds another without deleting previous set stock alarms. I want to add a Tasker Task to delete all stock alarms that are sitting in the alarm tab under clock.
If anyone has a way to do this via tasker, secure settings, script or SL4A please tell me.
I know there are ways to create new alarms without stock but I like the voice feature to turn my alarm off in the morning.
I have a Samsung galaxy s3 (i9300) and it is rooted.
Thanks in advance
+1 for this, I'd like to do the same. Anyone got a clue?
After a few days, the alarm app is loaded with plenty of alarm trigger times which are all expired already and need to be deleted manually.
Perhaps a slight necro, but I didn't find any other topic regarding this. And we can't be the only ones looking for a way to do it, can we?
Basically, clear the data of the Clock app.
I'm kind of new to rooting and messing around with Tasker etc, so this might not be the optimal way to do it, but it's the only way I've managed it yet. Mashed this together after alot of time spent on google & some improvising.
I'm on a Nexus 7 (4.1.2) and for the Dpad commands Tasker needed SU approval, but if I haven't missed anything, it shouldn't really be needed. Depending on your device & preferences you might need Secure Settings and/or Widgetlocker.
What I did was to:
• Add a Unlock task via Widgetlocker.
• Add a Wake Up screen task via Secure Settings. (I want to see what's going currently, not sure how it'll work without it.)
• Then add a App Settings via Settings Dialog.
• After that a bunch of Dpad commands to navigate to the Clock app and open it, you'll have to work out how many you need depending on how many apps you have installed.
• And finally a few more Dpads to Clear Data in the Clock settings.
I don't need to add any Wait's, but I haven't tried it thoroughly yet.
Hopefully it makes life easier for you.
Try in this thread. A lot of tasker talent there.

Greetings,
I know it is bad practice because I read about it on the forums and ran a lot of Google research but I would like to kill an application automatically at a specific time, this is temporary though.
It is a work phone, so I am not allowed to root it.
Would there be a way, without the phone rooted, to use Tasker or a way to ask a script to use the Task Manager of Android to "Exit" an application?
Is there another way to do that as well?
I tried to use Tasker to kill the application, but whenever I try to launch it after it has been closed, the telephone displays a black screen and I have to reboot it.
I tried to use the Terminal Emulator as well and the kill function but it says "Operation not permitted".
Thanks a lot to all for your time and help.

and the emulator thing didnt work cause you havent root access
Hi.
Is there anything like samsung routines or iphone shortcuts on the pixel?
In the menu I only found the rules but I can't do simple things such as activating or deactivating the data connection at a precise time on a specific day. Does this possibility exist on the pixel? Alternatively is there a program that does it but without root? I have tried macrodroid but it doesn't work. Thanks in advance
It seems this device doesn't have it and I also miss it. No way to program vibrate mode at certain hours every day for exemple
If guess Tasker app can do all of this, for a modest one time fee. I haven' tried it yet on this device, though
Tasker - Apps on Google Play
Automate everything from settings to photos, SMS to speech. ADC2 prize winner.

Thanks. Do you have already use it to change on/off connection data?
I have already use macrodroid and aprofile But No one of the two works, not even giving adb permissions.
Since Tasker is paid, I wouldn't want to buy it unnecessarily
Tasker is maybe not the most easy to use app, but is really powerful and I confirm you that it can do what you need.
