[Q] Poor GPS lock on Andromeda 1.2? - Captivate General

Just coming from perception 10.2 to andromeda 1.2 and I must say the GPS is wayyyy worse in andromeda. I've used andromeda for about a day now and I haven't been able to obtain a single lock! Perception used to be able to lock GPS in under 3 seconds and follow me really well so I doubt its hardware releated.
Have others running vanilla andromeda 1.2 seen similar?
Also, when I look in my phone info I notice that it says andromeda 1.1 but I know the package I installed was 1.2. I read through the andromeda thread in the dev section and couldn't find anything. Is this a known issue?
Thanks.

Yes I had the same issue with it reporting 1.1 when I had installed the 1.2 full install.

there is already an andromeda Q&A thread .... but i will answer this here.
when the 1.2 update was pushed out, the build.prop was not updated to reflect the correct version. unintentional mistake, but its nothing but a number. it has no bearing on any other aspect of the rom.
as far as your GPS is concerned, its running DA_G's google fix so you might try one of his other fixes. what works for some doesnt work for others, so its kind of hard to please everyone

^^^
GPS is working great on 1.2 for me. Super Duper infact, as is the rest of the ROM. FTW

Complete opposite. Never worked better. Flashed Cog 4 last night and am back to crappy GPS again.

Did you try the plum Bob GPS fix?

Wow that's surprising. GPS is fantastic for me. Not a single hiccup and its quick. On both 1.1 and 1.2. I'd reflash if I were u something isn't right.

[Q] What rom is legitimately best for mesmerize?

I know, I know, this sounds like a typical newbie opinion question. But I'm not exactly looking for opinion here. I'm looking for FACTS pertaining to which ROM is going to give me the most optimized performance (un-altered benchmarks or whatever) while still giving me the most functionality(I.E. all aspects of device performing as well or better than stock). I got this device a little over a week ago, and really like it. I have been reading thread after thread and just want some help, so please don't think I'm just looking for a quick un-researched answer. I am looking for legitimate advice. I am currently running VOODOO kernal and oc'd to 1.2 ghz and getting benchmarks around 1650 ish? i believe. I do like TW, but dont swear by it. I tried MIUI, and i cant really stand it. CM doesn't want to flash right either, and i don't know which direction i want to go. I also feel this thread might help others in my position. Does PnP offer noticeable performance increases, aside from removed bloat? Thanks in advance for any advice provided!
Heintz 57 is the best, most stable and functional. Everything works. PnP is a very close second and everything works as well. I say try em all. I have and keep finding myself back on H57. It's really a matter of seeing which one best fits YOUR needs and style.

I prefer miui, hands down, and i've tried them all. Miui + glitches kernel, i can get over 3k quad scores. Not to mention, its super cusomizable--super easy to change themes (no need to flash). Not to mention, it's updated weekly by a great team of developers so it's constantly improving.

I am running the same MIUI and Glitch and it is impressive, smooth, very customizable ect. For pure performance I found JT's Vanilla GB V6 with either his new kernel V3 or Glitch Kernel to be the fastest performer. Any of the MTD based ROMs seem to perform better and I won't go back myself.
miui ftw.

Miui is sex. Somebody used to put a lot of hard work into porting it for us, hmm perhaps he's off developing elsewhere.
I heard there is a good trigger rom around somewhere. I forget who the dev was but he used to be here. He was AWESOME! But they kicked him out for some reason
I honestly like the MIUI rom. Everything looks and works amazingly. Only one bug atm, no MMS while you are on Wifi. So.. all you do is just disable it and then get your MMS's, and then go back on. It works.

CM7 is my favorite. It's well thought out by the original developers, looks great, runs good, and will run 3x the benchmark your friends still on stock will! That being said, it's still under development, and will sometimes do some strange things. For example, I woke up one morning to find my screen was on with colors inverted. Had to pull the battery to unfreeze it.
So, for stable ROM, I like H57. It's not as new and sleek, but it's stable and works perfectly!

Can someone post links to the MIUI thread, and links to glitches kernel? I'm running pick-n-pack and ready to try something new. I want to make sure I grab the right files and get this going but I am having a hard time finding the right things. I just need someone that can confirm what the latest files are so i grab the right stuff. I guess I am looking for MIUI and Glitches Kernel. I should be able to figure out how to root, red recovery and use odin out as I've done all of those before.
Thanks.

I would stick with the bundled JT's kernel for the moment. Right now if you flash the latest MIUI then the Glitch kernel, you'll lose all sensors. It sounds like they should have the problem fixed soon, though.
Thanks for the quick reply. Are the links in your sig where I can watch for this to make sure I can do this when it's fixed?
You wont find the latest MIUI releases on here anymore. [mod edit: you know the rules....]
I can't seem to find the latest stable build for Heinz, can anyone link?

Liquid Desensed 36 Discussion Thread

I've been trying to follow the liquid densensed 36 thread over in android development but there is quite a bit of info there to digest. I am very grateful to jester for all the work he put into this rom so I don't want to write anything in the thread that could be construed as disrespectful to his work....so I decided to post this thread in general tbolt.
Could someone post what does NOT work in this rom?
If there is a fix for it could you post that too?
I realize most if not all flaws are due to the original leak having bugs so I'm not knocking anybody - just the opposite....but whatever the reason could you post the bugs here? That way users can make an informed choice about whether to flash. I know the prevailing sentiment is just nandroid then try it but some of us really like to know up front.
Thanks for participating....and triple thanks to jester for all his work!
Jesters version is the only one I could get to boot at all. All of the others fc my phone to death. I've ran it since he posted it and I haven't had any issues with it all. The worst thing about it is the battery life and the lag. Other than that its not to shabby.

Bluetooth doesn't work. It reboots the phone. I've also had problems with WiFi tethering. It's a very solid ROM though. But as you've said the problems from the original leak still exist. Mostly the poor battery life bothers people.
But I'm sure jester is working on this thing. Dude is a beast.
Ah. Bluetooth is sometimg I do need. That helps.
Thanks!
Bluetooth works with the .19 radio... I have no WiFi tethering and when you plug into the computer its a pita to get it to hook up as disk drive. Other then that it all works pretty darn well.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Hi,
Just want to clear up some things.
I experienced the problem with bluetooth rebooting the phone and through testing if you install the .19 radio, then the rebooting stops. Since I did this no more reboots. Also I use the bluetooth and it does work correctly and pairs quickly also.
I will also mention that when I installed the new leak that came out a few days ago that it would cause random reboots but with the radio I mentioned no reboot at all.
As to the lag and battery life I also was surprised how bad each was until..... Yes there is a fix....
There is a script that you run and then reboot the phone and since then lag is reduced drastically and battery life is much better than before of course it's as good as you will get till we get custom kernels (shout out to imoseyon!).
I hope this helps you out if so hit thanks....
Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan, let me say again at risk of repeating my op. I am VERY GRATEFUL to Jester and give him props galore for all the development he has been doing here. I don't think any developer has contributed as much to tbolt users for a long, long time.
This thread is merely meant to clarify what works, what doesn't work, and any potential fixes. His thread has grown so long and so many issues have been discussed it is hard to filter out the most critical info. I hope this thread helps with that.

There's actually an even more recent radio. Its here in the development section of the tbolt forms. I think the thread is called "ics combo radio." One radio was fixing Bluetooth but giving people wifi issues and another radio was fixing wifi but giving reboots with bt. This radio is the .19 cdma radio, along with the leaked ICS radio for lte. I'm on it now and it fixed my data issue. With every other radio I tried, I had to toggle off/on data whenever I switched from 3g to 4g. I also had a couple revolts here and there. Fingers crossed, but so far so good with the "combo radio."

[Q] Best kernal/setup your using on s3?

Hey so i wanna know what kernal and set up you have and if its running good for you. Im running synergy r73 with ziggy kernal clocked at 1.5 with lag free. It runs fine but i wanna try some different ones. This is for ICS
JB or ICS? From what I know, there are only kernels being offered from Imoseyon (on Rootzwiki) and Morfic (in original Dev forum). I would recommend making your nandroid backups and trying them all to see what runs well on your device. Every device performs differently when it comes to kernels.

Praise for TwistedUmbrella 4.04 ROM - New Lease on Life for My Thunderbolt

Regarding Twistedumbrella 4.04 Rom found here:
I've never donated to a developer (shame on me) but I just did for this one. I really want to keep my Thunderbolt going cause I'm off contract and have an unlimited data plan. Like some are reporting, the most recent builds of this ROM gave me a boot loop and I can't run them, but anyone considering trying this rom I encourage you to try the 12/06 edition at the link below. This 12/06 installed for me and ran just fine, and I am SO pleased at the increased speed AND battery life that I perceive I am getting. This ROM is not loaded with the HTC sense overhead, and things seem much snappier all around. I was about to ditch my Thunderbolt because things had slowed to molasses using the original BAMF 4.04 rom, but this one is working great!
Here's the link (copied from the thread linked above)
THANK YOU TWISTEDUMBRELLA
I too would like to join in and say thanks to twisted. His rom is the only thing that is keeping me on the Tbolt. I am one of the few with a model that gets bootloops from the newer versions but 12/06 works great for me.

What 4ext recovery version are you using? I'm using rc8 and all his builds boot fine. Hall is using rc5 and doesn't get them either. I'm just curious if the rc9 version of the recovery has a bug that is causing the boot loops.

As mentioned in the Dev section thread, the bootloops coincide with a certain version of hardware of the Tbolt. Specifically, those with a TBolt with a model number ending with an "A" are affected by the bootloops. It doesn't have anything to do with the recovery software.
Bingo. I pulled my battery to check the serial number and yes indeed, mine ends "A." But like is also mentioned above, my 12/06 rom is running VERY well, so I'm completely happy where I am.
But thanks for pointing this out -- that saves me a lot of time from being tempted to play with the recovery software or partitions or anything else.

That still doesn't take away from the fact that the recovery could be causing the problem. It's possible that whatever is different with the hardware could have an affect on the recovery as well.

Good point, nonetheless it seems there may be a work around of restoring just the boot data from a earlier (12/06) version of the rom will make the newer ones work while sacrificing the camera (it stops working).
Update: (don't want to keep adding off-topic posts) The work around worked for me without any problems (camera worked) when going from 12/06 to 12/19. Also the new 12/28 update doesn't bootloop for me.
But for a majority of tbolt usrs if u got a p/n ending with an "A", "B" and you experience any issues i.e. bootloops I caution you to stay away from ics for now until something stable comes out if it ever will. Lol!
For those with p/n "C", "XC" etc happy flashing. Seems these experience random reboots at some point but do not have major issues as the ones above.
Just thot I'd put this out there for those going thro bootloops and its driving them nuts!

I cannot believe anyone actually used the BAMF ICS rom for more than 5 mins. that rom is full of so much wack. Never had any bootloops with any of Twisted builds and ive tried pretty much all of them since day one. TWRP...
a bit of info on this particular bootloop for those not following the thread:
-flashing a previous working boot partition from recovery seems to get you past the loop (e.g. flash new rom, restore boot from 12/06 backup)
-alternatively, the 12/28 version on page 28 of the thread works with no loop on my particular hardware. i think twisted is still working on a final build though, which could potentially return to bootlooping if he hasn't isolated the problem.

HA! I deserved that, vice versa. I know enough to be dangerous to myself most of the time but that's about it. The BAMF rom looked so much prettier I stayed with it but it ended up a nightmare, as you suggest. I'm now almost on my 24th hour of the 12/06 rom and no spontaneous resets at all, MUCH better batter life, MUCH snappier in general, and I am MUCH happier with my thunderbolt! Presumably there's things that need to be improved past 12/06, but I'm not so much of a power user (obviously) even to have found them.

Hey guys I have run into a problem I would appreciate any comments on -- I've been all over the internet reading about the failure of Google Maps/Navigation to read street names in Andriod 404 without finding anything that helps me. I already had Ivona voice installed, and I even installed SVOX to see if that what help, but the app refuses to use anything but the standard voice, and it never gives street names, just "turn right, turn left" etc.
I've done all the clear data and cache suggestions and that isn't helping.
Does anyone know if a fix was developed that I can apply using this 12/6 ROM? other than that this rom is working great for me, and I suspect the problem isn't in the rom itself. I'd even gladly download an older version of the MAP apk if I could find it - I don't use the advanced MAP features at all.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd even gladly download an older version of the MAP apk if I could find it - I don't use the advanced MAP features at all.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Wifi Working at all?
Has anyone gotten any of the WiFi apps to work on this? Barnacle works on Ad-hoc, but I can't seem to get even the Wifi Tether app to work. Thanks guys.

Wireless tether has to be setup using the Google nexus one profile. Routing fix checked and wake lock checked.

The only time I heard of that was when people used the leaked radios or the combination radio made from the leak and .19 radio.

Really, I been only getting the random reboots, however I am on the leaked ICS radio.
Maybe I should switch back to the stock .19 radio.... Unless the new HTC ICS radio comes out soon with this update.
Does anyone know where the radio forum went too?

How to upgrade the LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 JB via CyanogenMod 10 (Unofficial)

Hi All!
Recently, while surfing through the ocean of ROMs for my LG G2X P999, I came across this ROM. Couldn't find any link related to this on XDA. So thought of pointing the G2X owners to this link:
http://www.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536/
Flashed it just yesterday. Apart from the Video-recording did not notice any bugs so far. In fact I haven't used it enough to comment on bugs. But I can confirm that Calls and Wifi are both working fine.
If any one knows any prior publication of this work on XDA; please let me know so we can avoid duplicates.
Hackfest in development section.

It doesn't,
I can't get it to work on anything that is not CM7 based.
Kinda blows that our phone is limited to cm7. I love cm7 as it is treating me well, but selection is always a nice privilege

so data is working? i thought the data or radio was still broken. does this mean we may get a somewhat stable build of JB?
Still a hackfest.

I tried a couple different versions of CM7 over the past few days, and its nothing but a nightmare. It will run flawlessly for hours and then something quirky will happen and I either cant get data, or cant make calls, or my screen locks up, and im rebooting the phone or looking for a fix on google. Wound up just going back to the stock rom with faux123 kernel.

Well the problem is that other developers take the vanilla cm7 code and tweak/mod the hell out of it which is always awesome but they put out an unstable build/ROM. If you haven't tried vanilla CM7.2 from get.cm (latest build) then you're missing out. I have had the ROM installed running with mazout's latest kernel for over a week now and its been running extremely well. All and any problems that I experienced with this setup were directly due to ignorance and human error as I'm still a flaming n00b. At the same time they were great learning experiences and easily fixed.

The problem is going to lie in your setup somewhere.
Maybe kernel level as it is known that some G2xs will run great on Trinity but crash on Faux and vice versa. That's just a quick example.
I've run vanilla CM7 for like 13 months now and do not encounter the issues you are describing.
Soooo...what's your setup.

Data does work but there is issue related to rapid battery drain. Back to my stock ROM. This hasn't been updated since a long time. I wonder if any developer at all is working on this phone or not!

You are late to the party... This device is a dying device. There's 1 dev working on a CM7 Kernel and that's about it. More than likely we will never see fully working 4.1.1 or higher on our device. They tried real hard and are some talented people (our devs), but LG handed them a broken pile of excrement and said, "here you go... Jellybeans!!"...

That's almost all true! I have another old phone, Mytouch4g/HTC Glacier. On that one I am running 4.2.2 and there is a lot of development still on. Huge number of ROMs which can be used as daily drivers. But here we don't even have a perfectly working 4.0.4. But again, no complain to Developers. they have tried really hard with a lot of time invested in this device. All the blame on LG.
This phone is lightning fast on 2.3.X variants. still very much usable. I may be late to the party, but the party is yet not over
I just want to chime in that I used this and the phone is working. The camera seems slower (and therefore more blurry). Other than that everything that I use (I do not use bluetooth, tethering, or wi-fi calling) is working. It's about the same speed as CM7 I had on here before. Don't know about battery since I only just did it.
If anyone knows any tricks for the camera please share. I babysit a toddler and his face is often blurry in photos. I'm pretty sure with this new ROM it will be even more blurred. I have already removed the plastic cover over the camera lens, it's not that issue. This is clearly software as it has gotten slower with this ROM.
We thought we might have a jellybean breakthrough when cm started deving cm10.1 on the p990 and had the courtesy of posting a half port of their work in progress. I believe it's called AdamPK's cm10.1 and is usually found with Mazout360 kernel. Hardware Acceleration Work so no camera, camcorder, sluggish or other problems that plagued the hackfests but they ran into and issue with the radio because O2x and G2x use different radio chips. So you have wifi but no data and battery can't be read correctly but other than that it would be as close to a perfect 4.x as we could get.
