My HTC touch pro UK version has a problem with opera crashing on secure websites. Internet explorer also gives error 0x8???? unknown error on secure sites.
I have searched the net for anyone else with this problem and only found one person who ported on expansys website.
I have hard resetted the device and taken out all memory cards, cleared the internal storage and same problem. Tried newer version of opera, same problem.
My friend has a tytn II with cooked touchflo3dish rom with opera etc and his works fine.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? its driving me nuts!! lol
ROM version 1.90.405.1 WWE
Just tested on mine - Same thing happening on mine on both Opera and IE
I have an unlocked network free version with a t-mob sim in it
yep thats the same phone i have. I assume you brought it from expansys. I got it from there, unlocked with t-mobile sim.
i cant believe they would provide a rom where they hadnt tested any websites like googlemail which is secure on the login page.
someone fix lol.. help! annoying lol
Got mine from Handtec
Just tried the youtube app for the first time and it comes up with Zilch, Also same for MSN Messenger which i presume is becuase of the SSL

Try over Wifi. It is more likely that it is blocked by your mobile provider! MSN doesn;t work on My T-Mobile contract yet it works fine over Wi-Fi. Youtube is also screwed by many networks adult content filters.....
Sorted it - Tested a voda sim and it worked
Disable the Proxy Server for T-Mobile and it's all fine now
ah excellent!!!! I cant believe that worked. I checked on my mates tytn II with cooked ROM and his had the proxy in, all settings the same.
Looks like the proxy is **** on t-mobile.
Thanks for the help
Yep, have had the same issues here (unlocked, TMobile sim). You tube app only works over wi-fi, secure access errors (actually to TMobile reg screen to remove 'adult' blocks when visiting you tube directly)
Where do I remove the Tmobile proxy...?
p.s. my youtube worked fine with the proxy before.
and now that proxy is disabled, men messenger works fine plus youtube still fine

thanks for that, much appreciated.
Edit: If I remove the proxy though looks like I can't send SMS messages...?
Good fix, had me puzzled for a bit. Couldn't get into my online banking for a while... saw the overdraft and wished I still couldn't....
I'm a newbie so I don't know if this is a developer topic or not, so I put it in general.
I recently rooted my Inspire 4G and started using Remix HD as my rom of choice.
As soon as I rooted I found that I could not use the internet browser on my phone, so I tried Opera, and then I tried Dolphin HD, and they and the stock browser all gave me the same message:
"You tried to access google which is currently unavailable." (new forum member can't post a link to google)
Which is BS because it's google it's never unavailable, I've also tried CM7 and it gave me the same error with stock, Opera, and dolphin HD. Do I need to flash my radio, redo S-off etc.?
Again kind of a newbee so please don't be harsh.
Do you have the bottom cover (sim cover/sd card cover) on? Do you have and apn under settings>networks>mobile networks ? Do you have data turned on?
I fixed it by accident

I flashed an AOSP rom, and that fixed it. All of the stuff you said though I had tried already this problem persisted for 3 weeks. I could also used facebook, and the market, but the browser just didn't work I don't think I'll ever understand why.
Hi everyone,
I've got the desire s a few days now and allready tried various roms. However my mobile internet connection when browsing doesn't seems to work. In app like facebook and whatsapp there is no problem what so ever, but when I try to open google.com it loads for a second and after that nothing happens. All I see is a blank screen and that's it. On wifi there is no problem everything works very well. I also tried different browser but the problem is always the same. Loads for a second and then a blank page.
Hope that anyone has a solution, cause I don't know what to do anymore. And I wouldn't like to send my phone back since that can take weeks before it's send back.

It would help if you tell us what ROM you are using

Sorry, right now I'm on the latest Europe ruu 2.1 something.
But as I mentioned before it doesn't really matter it happens on custom roms and different versions of the official ruu... The only thing I don't know if it worked straight out of the box.

in which case I'd be rebooted to try a full factory reset, then re test and report back
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
thanks for your help,
I rebooted to fastboot and there I did a factory reset. But the problem still occurs. That would make sense since flashing other roms didn't help either while I did whipe al the required partitions like cache, delvik cache, system en formatted them all. It seem's a software fault in I guess my radio because apps work fine. It's only the browser.
Robit
Try this...
Settings->Wireless&Networks->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names-->(touch on your provider)-->touch Proxy and erase so that it is blank, and touch Port and make sure it is blank.
Save those changes, and reboot your phone. Has that worked?

thanks for your input.
But both are allready blank and if the settings are wrong apps like mail, whatsapp and facebook wouldn't work either right? I'll try and report back but I wouldn't make any sense to me.

edit: edited APN, rebooted but it still doesn't work
Nuts. Was sure it sounded like an APN issue. Have you tried ringing your provider and asking for them to resend the apn? Or you could search for it and just check it matches. I'll do a little more digging and get back to you. (I'm sure i encountered this problem before. Can't for the life of me remember the fix though. Not giving up!

I know it doesn't make sense.. but I checked the settings more then once and they are correct. I'd be very happy if you would know a that fix but we will see.
Thanks for the efforts so far!

OK I'm still thinking it's APN issue. All other instances I have found of browsers only working on WiFi, this has been the cause. Can I have a little more information about your circumstances?
What provider are you with?
Which country are you in?
Which ROMs have you tried, and which are you currently running?
It may be worth you completely deleting your APN and starting a new one from fresh with your provider's confirmed details. Be aware that the APN itself is case-sensitive.
Maybe worth trying: going to dialer and dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then from the menu that pops up, go to phone info and scroll down to network connection type. I have 'WCDMA preferred' and that has always worked for me.
What is yours set to?
What provider are you with?
- Hi
Which country are you in?
- Netherlands
Which ROMs have you tried, and which are you currently running?
- Right now its the latest RUU 2.10.401.5 with the radio included. I tried the bindroid v2.1 and Beatmod blisssense hybrid latest version. Noticed it at first with the bindroid reflashed it but still occured, so I switched to beatmod still didn't work so went back to stock all together.
It may be worth you completely deleting your APN and starting a new one from fresh with your provider's confirmed details. Be aware that the APN itself is case-sensitive.
- Done that now but still nothing

What is yours set to?
- Same here, so that's no difference.
But question for you, if it would be an APN setting, apps which require an active internet connection wouldn't work either right?
Thanks for your time once again!
From what I have read on the matter so far, it would seem that other apps can use 3G if an APN or data plan issue prevents the browser from working. Sorry if I am grasping at straws here, but has your provider confirmed that your data plan is confirmed on their end?
Other people with similar issues found that "Opera Mini" browser would work on 3G when no others would. Is this also the case for you? I know this is a work-around & not a solution, just trying to rule things out.
Edit: Another thing to try would be to ask a friend (who's 3G internet does work) and borrow their SIM card.
Another edit: Found this after some searching for Hi APN settings. I know I said to remove the Proxy address and port number, but have you tried putting these in:
APN: internet
Username: (niets invullen)
Password: (niets invullen)
Proxy: 10.10.100.20
Poort: 5080
Now that is strange, it does work with the Opera Mini browser. So at least something is working now.
I renewed my contract and got the desire s with it. But the terms of my data plan are changed so it could be that that is the reason that the internet isn't working. I'll call in the morning with customer service to see if that is the reason.
I did now, but still nothing.
So I'll make a phone call and see what they have to say. I usually don't really have much confidence with customer service so that's the reason why I tried my luck here first. But if it is a provider issue than I don't have much choice of course.
Once again thanks!
Cool. That's ruled out hardware fault. There is nothing physically wrong with your phone! It's a software, setting or Sim card issue.
Good luck with your provider. Will be interested to know if you get to the bottom if it. If i find any more clues I'll post them here or pm you.

Well I called today the customer service today and they contacted the tech guys which apparently made some changes to my APN settings, which I can't find btw, but everything is working now. So I'm happy
Thanks for your time, it's appreciated.

Hey Kultch, I have a similar sitch, and remedy. I also have a rogers unlocked focus, but I'm using it on Virgin, and I found, (again, and again, since I have factory reset the phone many times), that using the, "Samsung Tools", app fixes my MMS issue every time, (the tool wasn't made for this specific issue, but it seems 2 be a good side effect. You should notice the difference after re-boot
**The issue stems from Samsung not recognizing your new providers sim card, resulting in the phone not resetting the VPN settings like it's suppose 2. You'll also probably notice that your browser defaults to a rogers site**
I can not using

What are we talking about here MMS?? What model of phone do you have, OS release, version #, ect.??
Last few weeks, textra has stopped receiving MMS along with any other 3rd party SMS apps. I have everything up to date with no mods or romsom the phone. I use get MMS just fine by activating a new SIM on a vzw phone. I tried this method again to no avail. Any help. And yes I did search the forums and google. Is this an isolated incident? Thanks in advance

Curious if anyone has found a fix.
I had an issue the other day where SMS's wouldn't send, with the error 'No sim selected for SMS' or something like that. A reboot sorted it, though. (This is on a DUGL model)
Bump
Anyone... I mean anyone have a solution?
I'm thinking of doing the RUU as another member suggested however I'm kinda nervous about it. Both htc and Verizon keep blaming each other. Honestly it's really frustrating. I woild love to the the u12 but I just got the u11 and it works great... Outside of this issue.
Anyone have any roms that work maybe? Maybe I need to root the device?

Check your APN settings just to make sure everything is straight. The incorrect APN can screw things up. If you have another Verizon phone, compare the APN setup.

I can't change my apn... I've tried but it looks good
You have to be rooted to change the APN because you have to add 2 lines to the build.prop to allow an app like APN Settings to add a new APN. I have the same problem. My APN was slightly different from my wife's. And still you can't change an existing APN only add a new one and delete the old one. I've tried it all. I'll save you the trouble and tell you that didn't fix the problem. I have talked to Verizon and it shows on their end that I'm receiving the MMS message but it never shows in Android Messages just says it expired. If I push and hold on the it has expired message it shows received info. Did find a forum where people with the first Pixel phone were having the same troubles. Google released an OTA for that phone to fix the bug in Oreo but only in that phone. I can only think that this phone has the exact same bug, just my problem only presented itself a month after upgrading to Oreo. I have noticed if I open Android Messages and leave it running in the background and then use Verizon Messages+ to send myself a picture message (never had a problem with mMS on Messages+) and go to the recently opened apps list and select Android Messages the picture shows up no problem. But as soon as I make Android Messages the default messaging app I no longer get MMS messages.

March is exactly when my MMS stopped working. I went to a Verizon store where I know a guy that works there. I asked him if he could make sure my advanced calling features were activated on there end. He did something and said you're all set and gave me a new SIM. I activated it in my wife's old phone that had working advanced calling and mms messages. It didn't fix my problem, but there is a guy on here that swears by that fixng the problem. I have also seen where people have called Verizon and had them turn off their CDMA provisioning and that helped. I haven't tried that yet. I've basically have said F it, and I downloaded the top 10 messaging apps for 2018. I found one that works that I like called QKSMS. not real flashy but it's a newer app and he is still adding features as he can.

I will definitely try to keep this thread updated. I have spent hours as well to get things working and countless factory resets. I did notice that my apn settings don't have a MMSC which is suppose to be http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms as well as a mms port 80...so maybe the new Sim will correct that cause I can't
But as a recap so far I RUU back from 2.42.617.6 to 2.42.617.1, my next stop is new SIM with all goodies activated and ensure CDMA provision is off

What really blows my mind is why some apps work and some don't. I was digging around the database for message storage. I noticed when the message went through I would get one field that said something like vdn.wap.mms. if the message was never received it would show like http://random IP address/ servlets/MMS and at the very end would be msg_id=? It would also show in the pending field of the database.
