Returned to stock and now problem - HTC Inspire 4G

I rooted my phone and s-off, and I tried to return it to stock. When I used the factory Rom, it seems Alittle laggy and it keeps on saying I dont have mobile data when I have 1 out of 5 bars. My phone is also still s-off and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you use the RUU to return to stock? Worked fine for me.

Yes i did but now i'm trying to get my s-on, maybe that has something to do with it.

I'm running stock with s-off and no problems.

Well I did the temproot then turned s-on, then installed stock software. Also reset the phone when it came back up and now everything is running 100% better and gets awesome upload and download speeds for some reason. 3mb download and .79 upload. Thanks for trying guys but maybe this forum can help someone else in the future.

What steps are used to turn it back on.
Sent from my Inspire 4G or Desire HD or whatever this thing is called via XDA app.

Start here if your unrooted!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
So i went through the hole root process with the GOLDCARD to get it at least temp rooted. Once you get to the temp root shell in step (step)3.7(dot) that states
"Launch Terminal Emulator again in the phone, it Force Closes. Launch a another time, and you'll have a temp root shell."
Start here if your already rooted or temp root!!
Go to this link and put the steps in your command promt, also from you ace-hack-kit-v002 folder navigate to "tools/win" or "tools/mac" to get to the adb file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11486587&postcount=27
I used the 3rd one and when you do the process su will respond with su su not found, but keep going it's fine. Once you complete that your s-on and should say on top of the boot loader.
After that i used the stock ruu from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952224
then when it came back up, i just returned it to factory settings through SD & phone storage.
I'm not sure if there are great instructions lol but if you have trouble, just let me know and i'll help you out or try to make more sence of it.

Return to Stock

i downgraded but could not get root. how do i and what method do i use to make it completely stock.
TO RETURN TO STOCK:
Make sure you S-ON (if able) BEFORE you Unroot. The S-On tool needs root permissions to function.
Step 1 (S-On):
Run Bubby323's S-On tool: S-On Tool
Step 2 (Unroot/Return Stock ROM):
Flash the stock AT&T ROM: RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
That's the original factory shipped rom, not rooted. =]
That will return everything back to the way it was when you bought it.
And just to be clear, you actually run the EXE file on your windows computer, with your phone connected via USB. Don't do anything crazy like try to put it on the SD card or something, because that won't work.
Edit: If you are still S-Off after running the tool, and need to S-On, read post 27 of this thread BEFORE you unroot with the stock ROM.
Ive been thinking of doing the same thing. I have s-off. Is there anyway to have root on the stock rom?
Not as of yet. The only way it's accomplished so far is with the downgrade. There are developers working on a way for that to be accomplished soon though, I'm sure.
Would there be any way to tell there is s-off for warranty purposes? Can that be turned off?

From what I understand, flash this:

That will return everything back to the way it was when you bought it. The only thing it will not fix is S-Off, which it doesn't look like you've done yet anyways.

Budco, if you downgraded, you can get root - the hard part is done. Come back to the IRC channel and be patient. When you were there there was a ton of activity.
I'm trying to return to stock after the "stock with root" rom, due to my wifi not working. I despite having a fully charged batter, the ruu errors saying that my batter is less than 30%.
any suggestions?

Use CWM to wipe battery stats. That may help.
don't you have to reverse S-OFF to S-ON in order to flash a stock ROM?

You can tell by reading your HBOOT (bootloader) screen. It will say "S-Off".
You're supposed to be able to get into this menu by holding volume down while pressing the power button to boot, however I haven't gotten it to work yet.
The hack tool uses "gfree", the T-Mobile G2 program for turning S-Off, which should have a method for turning S-On as well. I'll try to dig it up later, but check the Desire HD forum area for turning S-On. I believe they have made a program to do it.
Edit: To get to that menu, hold volume down while using the "Reset" option in the shut down menu.

Same here. I can only get in from restart. The phone vibrates a couple of times then boots right into recovery.
I keep getting error 170. Has anyone else seen this and what is the solution? I rebooted the phone and PC (W7 x64) but am still getting the same error.
What are you doing when you receive this error? What exactly is throwing the error?

Error 170 means that the RUU program cannot find the phone. Make sure you have installed HTC Sync on your PC. It installs some drivers that the RUU needs to find the phone via the USB cable.
returning to stock?
Can someone instruct me on how to return my Inspire back to stock? I tried rooting using attn1 instructions and also the youtube videos. It got to the downgrade part but once it rebooted, I can't get the device recognized like when I type in hackerize-ace clean in the command prompt. It won't work so I'd like to fix it. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I feel like I've bricked my phone and I'm sick about it. Thank you.
if you want to finish rooting, make sure USB debugging is on. I'm pretty sure when i rebooted from downgrading, since it was a fresh install, it was set to off, and that sounds like the culprit with the device not being recognized.

[TIP] Running the RUU to get back to stock

I ran into a few problems getting back to stock until I remembered a minor detail from my HTC Hero days.
You need to download and install HTC Sync get it here install it.
Reboot your computer
make sure the phone is NOT in USB debug mode and is in charge only mode.
the proper drivers will install. you'll know it's done right if you see ADB pop up as one of the drivers installed. You'll see a warning that HTC sync isn't detecting your phone and that's ok.
Then run the RUU exe all should work fine.
Get the RUU exe from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952224 This is FROYO
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191959 This one is Gingerbread
Didn't realize debugging had to be disabled.

Good sir I can not thank you enough for helping me get my phone back. i don't even mind all the bloatware now. Too bad I can't use the thanks button more than once. I really appreciate it.
Happy to be of service. I can't dev my way out of a paper bag, well I've never tried, but I can share what I do know.
I tried to run the RUU but it failed twice. Both times it would get about 70% finished and it would stop with an Error 110 which says that a file is either open or corrupted. Then it tells you to download the RUU again and run it again, which I did but got the same results. I downloaded it with the anti virus and firewall turned off. Is there another site to download the file from?

Either flash a different rom via Clockwork Mod or run the RUU. If you choose the RUU, be sure HTC Sync is installed, USB Debugging is checked and Fastboot is unchecked.
Thank you! It works!
Just used this thread to get my Inspire back to stock before taking it back for a refund and cancelling service. Decided to go with the HTC Evo3d from Sprint. This method worked returning the phone back to the latest (Gingerbread) and unrooted it from Cyanogen (CM7) ROM. Thanks a ton for sharing your wisdom!
Baffling Issues.
Hey, I have a question. When running this RUU update (downgrade) it gives me this: Error 140: Bootloader version error. Its agravating. I'd love to go back to froyo... I really can't use GB because it blocks tethering. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I take it you're not S-OFF? HTC (and probably others) decided they didn't want users reverting to older versions. You'll have to root, get S-OFF, before you can revert, but if you're rooted, you might as well just use the new andTether from google code:

Just found out at Best Buy that my phone is crap. The memory is out and I have no apps installed, my HD card is empty except for the standard stuff, and I get error that I need to free up memory or something like that. Guy told me to UNroot my phone and call AT&T.
So, this thread is all I need to do that???? Can it really be this easy????
thanks so much,
Patti

1. Create gold card using a utlility posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970157
2. Use bubby's tool to root your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961406
You should be done in less then an hour
I actually think the hack kit is easier. Plus you don't have to worry about cwm messing up.
I don't see how cwm is messing up? Just try to reflash it until it works. Or use the fix. Do you think rooting the phone with the desire hd method works? The easy one click tool? It includes visionary. Its the same phone, idk why it wouldn't.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nope the inspire software closes the bug that allowed visionary to work. That's why the goldcard is needed so you can downgrade.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
That seems exsessive. Why reflash until it works when you can just do it once and have it work. Not to mention some people have had to get engineering hboot just to get it to work.

I just wanted to add something about bubby's tool. I used that process to root my phone. Afterward, I could not get the GPS to work at all. So, I reflashed the stock ROM (via SD method) and used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to root the device. I have since loaded a Gingerbread ROM, but reloading stock (without losing S-off) fixed the GPS issue for me.
I guess the bigger news, and the point, is that the psneuter rooting process works on this device. I also used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to enable non-market apps on the stock ROM.
psneuter works because when you went back to stock you were still S-off.

That is what I was trying to convey in my post. The point really, is that you can skip the manual rooting and just reload the stock rom after the s-off steps. It may be beneficial for some people to know that.
Sometimes I just like to do things from scratch myself. If there was a simple s-off process that reloaded a stock rom, I would think some people would be interested in it. Of course, I realize there is a stock rom with simply root and s-off. In my situation, that rom did not have a working GPS for some reason.
I am sure there will be a point where the whole process gets easier anyway. I believe, at some point, somebody will find a way to get s-off without downgrading first.
I was trying to create my gold card tonight but kept getting card is already being used error after formatting and placing the SD card in my phone. That's what happens when I try to get the CID for the card that is. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

[Q] Inspire stuck without Audio. Stuck on last step of easy root. Help Please!

I have been researching how to root my inspire for the last couple days and finally went ahead and tried it. Here is my problem. I used bubby's (I apologize if i messed up his name) tool and everything seemed to be going great until I got to the part near the end of the video where it says that it will flash the rom with superloader etc. in it. It then just hangs for a while and nothing happens. The phone will now make calls, text but with no sound on my end. It seems to me that I now have a desire HD. Where do i go from here? Thank you in advance.
Download the hack kit and flash the PD98IMG file
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
download rom manager from market, flash recovery, download a rom, then flash the rom through recovery.
thank you guys for your quick response. I installed Rom Manager but it says that I do not have root. When using the tool I know that it did say my phone had s-off. Is that temporary ?
did you run the rage command from terminal emulator?
i did. It all seemed to work until the point where it says it will flash the cooked rom with busybox, superuser etc. then it just doesn't seem to find it or something. it sits in the fastloader screen with the bootloader option highlighted. how long should that take ?
It can take a while, just to make it easier for you, run the ruu to get back to stock (will still have s-off) then run the rooting process again, you can also try the hack kit as well.
There is a link to the ruu in the guide. You will not have to s-on.
At this point since your rom is downgraded instead of flashing back to stock you could download visionary from the desire hd forum and root that way.
Its up to you.
ok. I downloaded visionary a few minutes ago thinking i may need it. I will try that now. thank you both for the help.

My phone was done by hardware cycle clip a couple of months ago, first experience with Ginberbreak was confusing but it does work. First turn on debug mode, second turn off fast boot in power menu cos you'll need to fully reboot after the gingerbreak error.....
So run gingerbreak and after the SD card can be removed safely indicating the sdcard is now unmounted, then wait a couple of minutes and give the screen a few swipe another message error that it didn't work telling you to check for superuser in the app drawer. Do check if superuser is installed then you're rooted but no use without SD card access, now just reboot fully and check that sdcard is mounted then go to market download Rom manager and flash clockworkmod.
If no further luck then refer to loveboatcaptain's unsecured boot image might be easier stickied thread.
