I managed to reliably reduce my fix time and accuracy by doing this. If you're getting horrible GPS performance, perhaps this is worth a shot.
1. Go to http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/NTPPoolServers
Click on your region's host from the table.

Click on the server for your location.
Note/copy the list of servers.
2. Open a command prompt and ping the servers, noting the one that gives the best results
Note the IP address for the fastest server.
The IP addresses change from time to time so you can repeat this step later if you don't find a good one.
3. Use the fasterfix app from market to change your NTP server
You need to have root access and busybox
Select custom and type in the IP address you noted in step 2
Of course this doesn't provide any redundancy i.e. if that particular server is down, you'll need to go in to fasterfix and just choose one of the general pools.
Also note that you're pinging from your computer and not your phone. Ideally you'd do it from your phone over your data connection but meh, either will use similar enough routes and we're only comparing response times among the servers.

I remember a while back when people were asking how to see their Android phones name in their routers "Active" list, instead of something like this- android_75653hj3838746. It drove me nuts as well. Well, I was cruising our general section here and decided to read this post- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577877 . I have already been planning to set my phones ip to static, and I have DD-WRT (Although I imagine it works the same on any router) so I went at it.
Once in the services tab, I added an entry to the static IP list. Put in my mac address, ip and then set the hostname to "Skyrocket". Now, in my active list it shows up as "Skyrocket" instead of the generic based identification name (android_blablablabla). I'll be doing this with all my droids now, so I can tell them apart without having to remember which mac addy is which. Hope someone finds this useful. IT was handy for me, considering you cant change the hostname of the Android device from the phone. I know it is not changing the actual hostname on the device, just in the router. But, thats all I wanted.

There are a large number of web sites that place restrictions on who can access them by filtering IP addresses. If you have an IP address from a particular country, you will not be able to view many foreign web sites, particularly those related to streaming media, videos and other such content. i would like to introduce you to an app i was developing a few weeks ago. I had a really annoying lag using YouTube, Google Play and a few other apps. I found out that I'm not the only one having these problems and that they are caused by WiFi-Routers sending an IPv4 and an IPv6 signal. Some apps can't handle IPv6, which seems to be preferred by Android. There is a file in the Android system, that can disable IPv6, but it is really inconvenient changing it every time you log into a WiFi-Network. I decided to build an app which is doing that for me and because it works quite well (but I'm of course thankful for every feedback or reported issue), i decided to upload my app to the Play Store. By now, you will need to use the app every time you log into a WiFi-Network again, but I'm working on an update which is including a service checking and changing the IPv6 status automatically . If some of you are also having problems with IPv6, I would love to hear about your experience with this app!

I am the author of a completely new application created to increase road safety. Using the application motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrians can impart their position, and the driver can these road users detect in real time - then a message is displayed on the widget on the type of the detected object with the specified interval estimate of the distance to the nearest object detected. It is based on WiFi, WiFi analyzes name, not connects to any network and does not mention any data between users. As far as the range is in a straight line is up to 140 meters, it is known that all turns and terrain affect the range, however, it is enough that the dispute about detecting the driver can be valuable. The application is available for free on Google Play. Could you please test the application and write me what do you think about it?

Intrace is a computer network diagnostic tool for displaying the route (path) and measuring transit delays of packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The history of the route is recorded as the round-trip times of the packets received from each successive host (remote node) in the route (path); the sum of the mean times in each hop indicates the total time spent to establish the connection.

ok so i tested this and i gotta say im disappointed. it doesnt work!
it loads the map and finds my location but when i type something like yahoo.com and enter a loading circle appears and nothing happens. cant even stop the scan and doesnt find anything. have to force close the app.
looking forward to update with fixes.
