[Q] Noob needs some advice - G Tablet General

I know there is probably a thread dor this but I'm in abit of a hurry. I bought this for my father considering its cheaper than a tab and works faster thaN my nookie froyo. I just rooted it using z4root. I was wondering if there is a way to flash i custom rom without using ADB because for some reason I cant get adb to work at all.I just want a nice clean ROM and the Market with Gapps.
Thanks

Look here and good luck
Edit: in my opinion VEGan 5.1 is the best rom I have used and I have tried them all except the gadam port.
This link is the same one I followed to turn my gtablet into a ipad slayer.

Thanks a bunch bud.

VEGAn TAB 5.1.1 Beta is most stable ROM (IMHO) for daily driver use.
The link posted in the quote is a good method for flashing.

I flashed it and it didn't work but I did flash tnt and it works accept for the market. How do I get it running

You flashed tnt or tnt lite?

You have to first flash VEGAn 5.1 as that is the ROM.
You then flash 5.1.1 as that is a supplement and "adds" to the 5.1 ROM the new updates.

Tnt lite

[ROM]Fission Vanilla 2.0 RC1 - Android FRG83 2.2.1

Now that we have the daily BS out of the way...
This ROM is much like the latest Fission. It is just based on Android FRG83 2.2.1.
We will have same bugs as before. The compass calibrate and the random MP3 ringtone thing.
If you want to know what is different with 2.2.1 FRG83 then please use google to look it up.
What to expect from ROM:
It has been upgraded with Android 2.2.1 FRG83 system files. The app and framework folder remain the same as in Fission 1.2.1 for now. RC 1 will be used to see if any problems come up. Then we will move to RC2 that will have updated apps to match a 2.2.1 google build if any apps need to be updated.
If you are coming from 1.1 and above no need to wipe cache/data.
If you are coming from a different ROM then SBF before moving to Fission ROM.
If you are having problems that many others users are not having then SBF.
If you plan on sticking with Fission for awhile, then SBF also.

Thanks man - just wanted to make sure before I pulled the trigger
Just a heads up, the banner that runs on install still says FRF 91 Fission.
Thanks and Paypal is getting a hit in 5 minutes!
EDIT: Install went fine, no problems, but, still stuck on 1x. Thinking of restoring 1.2, see what happens. Also, I just dropped a $10er into your coffee fund. (not a bribe, I promise)
EDIT2: *22899 fixed the 1x issue. Thanks all.
I swear I'm not being lazy or anything but I have tried googling the difference between the two android builds and I really can't find. Anything special? Should someone who just installed the 1.2.1 bother upgrading or are they very much comparable?
Sorry for the inconvinience.

If you just flashed 1.2.1 just stay there there are a few bugs that are being worked on (nothing major don't worry) I bet there will be a new version out in a few days or so (just speculation)
The biggest difference is that it's running on Android 2.2.1 instead of 2.2.0 that we got stock. Note this is different than VZW 2.2.0 upgrade to 2.3.2 or whatever the newest OTA update is. (Fission users won't get or need the update.)

No camera after 1.2.1 to 2.0 RC1
Hi,
Thanks for all your hard work on this! Have a possible bug report here. My camera won't work after I flashed from 1.2.1 to 2.0 RC1. Any suggestions? Would it be safe for me to flash back to 1.2.1 (and if so would I need to wipe data and cache?)

Look at post #6 on this thread at DroidForums http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...on-vanilla-2-0-rc1-android-frg83-2-2-1-a.html, Angdroid/MotoBoy camera is an issue that has to be fixed
Also, if you made a backup at 1.2.1, You should be able to just boot into clockwork and restore yourself back to 1.2.1 with no trouble

[Q] Which Rom

Which is the best rom for the G tab right now. I am looking for flash and market capability. I have seen that there are several with several versions. I am just wondering which one is simple with the market and flash support, maybe there is none .

The easiest would be the enhancement pack, or try out tnt lite 4.2.
I was using the enhancement pack until two days ago and it was pretty good and definately better then stock.

Nice, its quite a difference using a custom rom over stock.
I got my tablet a few days ago and I think I like TNT 4.2.1 a little more than VEGAn 5.1. They are both very nice and I have not really had any stability issues with either.
Just load them both.. you did install clockmod right? It's so easy to switch back and forth..lol

Can I load both ROMS and have them set up like a dual boot scenario?
Isn't it required to wipe data when switching ROMS?
Sent from my G-Tab using Tapatalk
No, you can not dual-boot. This has been asked for every device, lol, so don't worry about feeling noobish
I don't remember if CWM for the G Tab supports back ups, but if you backed up a ROM and installed a different one, you could backup and restore each time, but that's as close to dual-boot as it gets :/
Also, back to topic. I suggest CM7 beta 1 (not the Bittrix build), but I enjoy Gingerbread
Another factor to consider is that of customization/configuration. For example, TnT Lite, while being a great ROM doesn't let you get at alot of the configuration options/settings normally available on an Android device such as setting up a VPN. Again feel free to switch between them and see which one 'floats your boat' more.
Personally I will probably stick with VegaN because of the VPN....

Android 2.3.5 AOSP Gingerbread

I didn't make this ROM. Credit goes out to the developer.
This rom is mostly AOSP besides the bootscreen and CPUconfig menu
All Google Apps are up to date as of 7/31/2011
No need to get seperate gapps zip

They won't work at all. Droid's bootloader is unlocked, Milestone's isn't. Flashing this would be a big problem for your Milestone.
Thks for the heads up on it.

If you still have questions feel free to ask, and I'll try to answer them as best as i can.
Ok, so i got it rooted and just installed a de-bloated stock Rom. Its ok, but now question is, if i decide to install a gingerbread Rom or any other Rom such as gummycharged, can i just install like i did on my bolt or x in cwm or do i have to use this odin program? if i have to use odin, how do i go about installing that way? thanks in advance...

For most roms, like gummycharged fe 2.0 and gbe 2.0 you just need CWM. I'm sure the process is the same as your bolt but just to be clear: Place the rom's zip you want on the sd card, boot into CWM, wipe date, dalvik cache, and cache partition, and then install the rom from the sd card. =) There are also some roms that come as full-odins, where you flash the package through odin and it does the work for you. That being said, you shouldn't run into that many unless you are un-rooting your phone. Hope that made sense. let me know if it doesn't.
Sweet. Thanks alot dude. That's awesome to know. I don't really wanna get into messing with odin. I like being able to do everything from my phone and not having to hook up to the laptop.

LOL, I was just coming in here to ask that exact same question as the OP. The wording was almost verbatim what I was going to say. The majority of experience I have had with Android is with HTC phones. I have rooted a few tablets as well. The instructions for the charge root are super confusing compared to previous devices.
My big issue is with the terminology. Like what is EE4, EPF1? Are there certain kernels that only work with certain roms? How easy is it to completely pooch the phone if I click on the wrong button in Odin? Can I make a nandroid backup and swap roms on the fly using Rom Manager depending on my moods or is it more complex then other android phones?
I haven't checked out the posts yet in this thread but seeing as how at least one other person has been just as confused as me I'm wondering if someone out there that has experience with both Samsung and lets say HTC phones can make a simple guide that makes comparisons to other rooting processes. For people that arn't used to Samsung phones, these instructions can be very overwhelming and there doesn't seem to be a newbie thread out there that gives information on all the abbreviations used and what they mean.

EE4, EP1W, ect are OS build numbers. EE4 is the current official release Froyo build. EP1W is the latest leaked Gingerbread build we have. Those are pretty much the only two version you want to worry about right now. There are Froyo kernels and Gingerbread kernels. Any Froyo kernel will work with any Froyo ROM, and any GB kernel will work with any GB ROM.
Only mess with the PDA button in Odin and you'll be fine. Forget the Phone button even exists, because that's the button that can get you into trouble. You can use the PIT button as well if you have the charge.pit file, but it's not normally necessary, so only do that if you have a reason.
ROM Manager is useless with this phone. There are reports that there is a version of CWM from it that will work with the Charge, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the latest imnuts CWM. The orange CWM dated 8/17 will let you do nandroid backups...you just need to boot directly into it and do them from CWM itself and forget about ROM Manager.

kernels for all roms on the Charge are installed in CWM, as for GB kernels you can't go wrong with any of Imoseyons voodoo ones... radios don't necessarily need to be updated but I've noticed a big improvement with the latest EP1W modems, however the results vary on different phones I've seen

Peter Alfonso's GPA19 ROM is the most stable one that I tried. Look for Peter Alfonso's site and click the Downloads link for crespo. I would post a link here, but XDA's nonsense won't allow it.
Download the 12-07-11 one to get the latest GB version. There aren't a lot of customizations like CM, Oxygen, MIUI, etc., but it's stable as hell. The latest Oxygen (2.3.2) has a REALLY obnoxious, and largely ignored, backlight notification bug where you have to reboot to get the lights to go out... only way I've ever found to fix it is to install another kernel. However, Peter Alfonso's got one of those too... just go to his site and it should be on the second page of the "blog."
I know you said you didn't like ICS, and I didn't either at first, but Pete's ICS ROMs are also great and very stable. The latest is 01-30-12, and you can get it from the same crespo download page.
question.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Both of his ROMs are pre-rooted, so no, you won't have to re-/root anything. But since you're going from ICS to GB you'll have to wipe everything, so there's no real "downgrade" path.
From a rooting perspective, the only difference I've noticed, that's kind of annoying, is that his GB ROM contains busybox and his ICS ROM doesn't. It's not a deal-breaker since there are Market apps to add it in, but it's kind of annoying that the binary has to be re-linked after each update/flash.

Im asking that if i can reverted back to gingerbread version without loosing root, may i install his pre-rooted stock without loosing root. Thats all, but since you mentioned it, im relived to revert it back. but i couldnt find his link could you provide me one? Also is it regular to flash it back to gb or is there a special method to do it?
I can't post links yet because our fine friends at XDA say that I need to post more for the privilege. Pfft.
You should be able to type peter alfonso downloads crespo and get to the page. 12-07-11 is the latest GB version (GPA19).
There's no "special" method for flashing, just do what you would do when going from one incompatible ROM to another... wipe data/factory reset, format cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvik cache. There are probably a million different combinations that different people will give you for the proper install, but that's what I normally do.
Tryout CyberGR's CM7 MOD and you won't go back:
