[Q] .crf file inquiry - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone. Just recently found some files on the old drive of my pc with file extensions .crf. I believe these files were encrypted files by me way back 2005 (I own a SPV E200 - Voyager that time). My question is, what smartphone program that has this extension when encrypted? Any list of apps to password-protect/encrypt files during that era? Had tried Resco Explorer (even the oldest builds) but extension of these files were .rxf. I still can recall the password i had set on these .crf file but i can't recall what program i had used before on my Voyager. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello there,
When dealing with file extentions first I use http://filext.com
Then when this does not help out I use peInfo (Portable Executable) from sk-tools.com, because this program knows of about 350+ file extentions on WinMo
I hope this helps,

Can ActiveSync auto-sync files on both PDA and PC?

Hi all
I've got an excel file that I want to update using ActiveSyn - I'd like to do the same with all files that are present on both PDA and PC. Is this possible?
So if I update the the file on my PC; next time I put my PDA in it's cradle, the copy of the file on my PDA will be overwritten with the later version from my PC.
Cheers
Wayne
maybe i'm misunderstanding something but is that not one of the main purposes of activesync ?
put the file in pocket_pc my documents on your pc and that should be it
edit it there and it should sync on next activesync
so you're telling me that if I transfer a file from PC/My Documents into PDA/My Documents using the ActiveSync Explorer, whenever I change the file in either location ActiveSync will automatically update the other?
I'll give it a go but I don't think it does?
Cheers
Wayne
no not explore but
normal activesync unless you dont have it set to sync files
when you turn file sync on it makes a mirror of your my documents on the pda in your my documents on your pc
and sync files when you connect your pda to activesync
if the last modified flag on the file is changed on the pda so it's newer then the flag on the pc the file on the pc is overwritten by the file on the pda
and virsa versa
(unless of cause activesync is set to allways overwrite one of the locations with the other)
yep, I got that working now...ta muchly.
the only thing I didn't like is the duplication on my PC of the file I want to sync. I've now got 2 local copies...suppose I'll just have to delete the original and use the version in the pocket_pc My Documents foler.
Thanks again
Cheers
Wayne
you mean duplication as in 1 file on the pda and 1 file in your my ppc documents on the pc ?
no.
When I add a file to sync, it displays the standard "open file" window. I select a file (lets say it's on my desktop for example) and it then make a copy of that file in the pocket_pc My Documents folder which is in the My Documnets folder on my PC:
c:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\\Pocket_PC My Documents\CopiedFileHere.abc
This is the file that is then sync'd with my PDA.
This unfortunately leaves the orifinal copy of the file where it was found...on my Desktop in this case. I then have to either delete it or remember to only update the duplicate version. Either isn't a good solution since deleting the file and leaving the duplicate ruins my carefull file organising  and leaving the file means I may at some point edit it by mistake.

cant you just move the file in question to the pocketpc my doc
and then have a shortcut to the file on your desktop ?

Installing software to other directory.

Hi all,
I just sucessfully installed big storage on my O2 mini and was wondering how i can change the default directory to which my software installs. The software is Imaginet-arabitizer and it uses a PC-based installation. No cab files...
Help please....
help
you can only whether you want to install a program to a default location, storage or a storage card. it will ask you in the beginning of installation by ActiveSync. choose NO and install sonewhere else.. gl
Still no luck....
Unfortunately, this particular program does not use the active sync user interface for the installation....
Any other methods?
i saw a shareware program on the forums once that did that... wish i downloaded it then cause i cant find it again sorry .. thought id let you know its out there though.....
aidil916 - unless it's some kind of ROM update etc, anything that gets installed on the PPC must always use a cab file, even on PC based install. So, start the install, and does add/remove programs or something come up?
Either way, if it installs something to the PPC (i've no idea how the arabizer works), interrupt the installation or somehow stall it. Then use a program like Filetracer or even the XP search tool to find any cabs installed to your pc in the last few minutes. Track down the cab (usually in your temp folder, programs folder or activesync folder) and then take a backup copy of the cab. Then, copy that to your PPC..
Tell me how it goes.

Usually when you perform PC-based installation software asks you for target location but some programs are hard-coded with "\Program Files\ProgramName" path so they will fail to work if you place them to another locations, i.e. to Storage Card
For programs that don't allow you to change target location you can change their registry entries to correct their path from "\Program Files\" to "\Storage Card\Program Files\". Here you will also need to manually move your program to a new location (SD) using Explorer's copy-&-paste functions
ps: don't use cut-&-paste because some of your programs may be running and this will cause sharing violation errors
Example, I have program "ABC" installed at "\Program Files\ABC" folder.
1) Using Explorer I navigate to "\Program Files" and COPY "ABC" folder to clipboard
2) Now I navigate to "\Storage Card" and create folder "Program Files"
3) I open newly created folder "\Storage Card\Program Files" and PASTE my "ABC" folder from clipboard here
4) Using Registry Editors I search for "\Program Files\ABC" entries and change them to "\Storage Card\Program Files\ABC"
5) I do soft-reset. If after that program works Ok, I delete "\Program Files\ABC"
The software is Imaginet-arabitizer and it uses a PC-based installation. No cab files...
Click to collapse
Check your activesync's installation location. You will find the cab file within Software name or company folder, like "C:\program files\microsoft activesync\ABC"

There are 3 methods i use,
1st is download the CAB file if you can, copy to your PPC and install with a program called CAB Install http://www.s-k-tools.com/fp/viewtopic.php?t=44 which allows you to install the app anywhere you want.
2nd is to run the standard ??.exe PC installation file but without your PPC pluged in. After the ??.exe install file is finished it will normally produces a CAB file on your PC which will copy across to your PPC next time you plug it in. All you need to is to find the CAB file and manually copy it to your PPC and use CAB Install.
The 3rd way is to do the same as 2 above and then use an app called WinCE CAB manager which you can generally modify the CAB files standard installation directory to what ever you want to.
Hope this helps
Most software including PC based installs eventually use CAB files. For this I use a small program CabInstl.

Customizing .nb0 (ROM) files

Hi everyone,
My PDA support center distributes updated roms in "nb0" file format, I was wondering if anyone could help me throught openning this file and doing some modification. Since there are many unusefull applications inside it and I want to delete or subsitite them. I read some topics about cooking roms in forum but I cann't find any information about customizing "nb0" files.
Thanks!
Pedram
Fortunetly, I could dump content of ".nb0" file with tools provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249836 (Beta: WM5 ROM editing tool). I got pleanty of files in dump folder. It's har for me to diffrentiate which file is which!
Could any one help me to find my voice command application inside this dumped rom and repalce it with another voice commmand application such as MS voice command?
There are some files and directories with this name in my dumped rom:
VoiceBar.dll, VoiceCtl.dll, voicedll.dll, VBarCall.dll, VCOMCtl.dll
I am really confused! I do not know what files should I delete or where copy new files.
Thanks in advanced.
i want to change my windows mobile 6.1 os 64mb rom to 128mb but i cant find any editing tool. im using asus p535 and rom file GalaxyII_new.nb0 like that.
moved to Q&A

How can I copy a file from ROM?

I recently bought an HTC Touch Pro. I now realize that the builtin MS Word app saves files in the new *.docx format. However, I prefer the older *.doc format (for use on my desktop). So, I am hoping to copy PWORD.EXE from my old PocketPC (ETEN 500 or HTC Jamin) for use on the Touch Pro.
In my attempt to copy PWORD.EXE, I get an error message stating that copying of files from ROM is not allowed. (I have tried in vain using Total Commander, Resco Explorer, and File Explorer.)
Does anyone know how a file can be copied from ROM?

[Q] How to get the files in WP7?

Hi all, how can I get a file from windows phone 7 such as the camerasettingsmanifest.XXXX.xml or others. My phone is Omnia7. With WP7 Root Tool, I can browse and operate files in this system on the phone, but I don't know how to get them out. Anyone can help me? Thanks.
Install schaps WPDM, explore to the file you want, copy it on the phone to My Documents folder on the phone (as if it is being used by the system you cannot transfer it directly to your desktop), and then transfer that to your PC.
Gr8,thank you so much!
No Problem - here is the link (you need to be on NoDo; no Mango support yet).
