I had widget locker installed on my galaxy tab and wanted to change the orientation to landscape. So I switched to landscape and widget locker caused adw launcher and many other apps to crash. So I had to factory reset. Just a warning for those who use it.
Mine is currently set to landscape. Has been for over a week now as I have a Honeycomb layout with ADW EX (whichvis also set to landscape) and I have had nobissues at all.

If an app stuffs up that badly, instead of doing a factory reset you can always just use adb shell and delete the .apk out of the /data/app/ folder.
Works fine in landscape here.
thanks for the replys. I'll investigate further.
EDIT: Still not sure why its giving me force closes. I have adw launcher set in landscape. I have the force landscape option in widget locker. I am using Klean mod for verizon
the latest widget locker works fantastic on my Tab, even supports sensor orientation now.
Landscape works perfectly and secondary sliders are on the right hand side now
rather than the top.
totally worth it if you are in landscape most of the time.

Just curious which ROMS support rotated home screen.
I know Darky, and Perception did, but just installed serendipity and it doesn't seem to support that feature.
This is a ROM feature or a module or app I can install to enable it.
If so, names of ROMS or apps would be appreciated it.
Thanks
All roms have screen rotate, if it was not working, bad flash
I don't mean ability rotate the screen. I mean a rotated home screen.
Some ROMS, will have a verticle HOME screen, and some ROMS will when rotated will display the HOME screen in Landscape mode, with the launcher on the side.
Got you, not rom specific, launcher specific. I use adw, has that feature, not all do. I am not sure which launcher serendipity uses
Have you tried a market launcher such as launcher pro or adw? Their home screens can be set to rotate in their settings no matter which rom you are using.

Thanks guys, much appreciate the help.
Adw launcher is perfect.
It has absolutely nothing to do with your ROM, just what launcher you use.

Question answered thread closed.
Hey guys I have tried several launchers but I want to have a launcher that I could align the widgets in a different fashion in landscape from portrait?
I have customized and aligned all my widgets to look perfectly in landscape mode.
However I do not always want to use my tab in landscape mode. When I flip to portrait mode all widgets look discombobulated and out of order. is there any suggestion for this pet peeve?
its something Impossible though , as the both sides are connected together you can't just do that , only if you are using 2 launchers then you can modify them . that is why samsung made our stock launcher use default rows and columns ..
I guess I have no choice but to deal with it

Well, technically you could try somthing like this;
have adw launcher for portrait and adw ex for landscape
set them both up for how you like, then you could use tasker to change launchers when the tab is put into landscape mode.
This is all theoretical of course, it could work, but i know nothing about tasker so cant really help you at all
Well it's a shot in the dark but ill try it out.... Thanks thanks for the suggestions

Is there any Launcher out there that got the feature to change homescreen based on orientation?
I currently have my device locked on Landscape because I feel it looks better and I can fit more stuff on it. But with the same number of columns and rows in Portrait makes everything look bad and squished, if I use less rows and columns in Portrait then most of the apps and widgets are hidden and it still looks bad.
So the best would be to have 2 different homescreens depending on the orientation, I currently use Apex but I couldn't find a feature like that. Sure I could just scroll manually to another screen but that's just annoying and it's easier to lock it to landscape in that case.
sslauncher the original (market link) can do that nicely. It doesn't have XxY layouts, everything is freely arangeable (with guidelines). There's also a free version, which should have the same functionality to try first.
Not exactly what I was looking for, I was looking for the standard launcher but with orientation based homescreens. But this one looks really nice, will try it out for a while thanks.
orientation homescreen
only one i have been able to find is on Cyanogenmod 10.x launcher application name is Trebuchet 1.0

I need to use CM for Trebuchet, my device is not supported so that's not possible.
Also on my old device which was supported I couldn't find that function either, Trebuchet can auto-rotate but you can't set default homescreen depending on rotation.
For example, in Apex Launcher I can set Landscape to have 10x10 grid and potrait to have 5x5, the problem with doing that is that all apps and widgets that are set on a grid that is beyond 5y or 5x will disappear in potrait and everything will look bad.
What I want is to use homescreen number 1 as default for landscape and homescreen number 2 as default for potrait, that way I can make them look good on their own orientation.
The launcher should switch to the correct homescreen when I change orientation. I have tried like 15 launcher and haven't seen this function yet.
To see the list of recently called (active) apps - I have to long-press "Menu" button, which is not very comfortable. How to make it work with swiping on screen upward? Are there any configuration settings for that in kitkat?

If you are rooted you can try with xposed framework and gravity box or some other modules that allow you to change your navbar settings or your hard keys configuration.

I do have root, but xposed - or rather its modules, but it's almost the same - does not work at my phone (Alcatel Idol X+).

You can have this gesture, but not while using an app. That's because this would interfere with scrolling or possible app gestures.
I have the exact gesture set to open recent apps with Nova Launcher.
Install Nova launcher, go to Nova settings, gestures and buttons and set the swipe up gesture to open Recent Apps.
This will work when you are on one of your home screens, but not in apps, like I said.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi, thanks. The matter is that I use the launcher, which I don't wish to change. I've been using it for a while and I find it the most suitable for me. It's Launcher Pro. Mostly because it allows to make a bottom bar of shortcuts scrollable, fitting there more than 4-5 icons. Also it's quite fast and does not drain battery.

Nova launcher does this as well. It's incredibly light and fast. Very customizable. Give it a shot. You might like it.
It's considered by many the best android launcher.
I have the paid version and nova launcher is always my first installed app after flashing any rom.
To activate the dock (bottom bar) pages, go to nova settings, dock, dock pages. You can also set the number of dock icons and a lot of other stuff actually
Cheers

Thanks, the launcher itself is good, but as to swiping action - it seems does not solve my problem. The swiping works if it happens on blank zone. On my Meizu firmware, when I, for instance, had some PDF opened full-screen - I could swipe from bottom of screen or side - if being in landscape orientation - and recent apps bar appeared, so I could call dictionary or encyclopaedia, whatever, and the same way back. It was fast and comfortable. Here it does not work...

Yep. Like I said, it only works from one of the home screens. Don't know what else to suggest unfortunately

In case someone is interested, more or less normal way to do it - "All in one gesture" application. It adds a small "hot spot" zone to drag from.
Which launcher works best with the Edge? I'm currently using Nova, just wondering what you guys/gals are using or recommend other than TWiz.
I'm using Apex. I like it because it will rotate in landscape mode. Useful for when mounted in the car.
Im using nova
Apex
im using Aviate
I am shuffling between Nova and Toch Wiz
On Nova you dont get the complete edge experience meaning as soon you are on nova launcher the edge screen hides into your customized text screen. Edge screen is only activated once you swipe over it and then when you click anywhere on the main homescreen the edge screen disappears again
Is this happening for all Nova launchers user? does this happen on all 3rd party launchers?
that's been my experience thus far with Nova...............so kind of why I posted this thread, to see which Launcher works best with the Edge panel.
Nova, because I always have and it has great customization for larger devices
NEXT launcher works great on mine!!!
Folks might consider ss launcher. Seems to be working ok on my edge. It is very customizable. Some things I especially like about it is that the applications page scrolls vertically so you can just flick through them, The icons on the screen can be added without grid so you can have as many rows and columns as you like (although you have to take a little time to make sure they line up well). The actual screen size can be expanded vertically so you can scroll up to see hidden stuff that does not initally appear in the window. For example you could stick extra icons, a calander or message widget that you scroll vertically to get to. Also each screen, landscape and portrait can be customized seperately. It's not perfect but and takes a little effort, but, for me it is worth it. Also when you first run it I has a lot of clutter on the screen to indicate some of its capability but all that can be removed so you can design it the way you like.
Apex work fines on my edge.
The problem with all 3rd party launchers is the edge panel which does not activate on its own when you unlock the phone that's only working on TW for now...
I like Nova along with Swapps ... the dock is on the right side and app drawer is on the left side.
It was pointed out in another thread that using a non-TW launcher also prevents the shortcut icons on the edge panel from updating their counts. If that's not a problem, be sure to get your notification counts down to zero, otherwise your icons will always have the number when you switched. I noticed it with my email program, where the edge panel had a different number overlay than the one in the Nova launcher screen. It wasn't until I ran the TW launcher again that the numbers matched up.

Huh. I've used Apex and Flow Home and my icons on the favorites panel still show the correct "unread" or "missed calls" count. Never had an issue here.
Nova launcher working like a champ as usual.

I use Apex Launcher and it works great with the Edge!!!
Hi. I have a butt load of launchers that I've paid for. The Biggest problem is that my 3 favorites all have issues. I have the official Samsung case. It causes Nova to crash once and awhile when opening the case. When I open the case using apex launcher, sometimes it has somehow half a homepage as if it were in midscroll. Adw seems to work but I miss my transparent notification bar. Sticking to touchwiz for now. I kinda forgot to try the oldie launcher pro.
I've been using the Google Now Launcher. I think it's great give it a try, you might like it
Can someone give a little more information on the GoogleNow Launcher, maybe with some screen shots? I've been eyeing both the Nexus 6 and the Note Edge. Love the hardware on the edge, but I love the look and animations of lollipop on the 6. Wasn't sure how well the Google now launcher replicates the smoothness and animations of stock android, and would love some feedback and thoughts!
