Widgets animated gif? - Captivate General

So I made my Homescreen too look like WP7 but I was wondering is there a way to have animated gif widgets?

Have a look at http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/appwidgets/index.html if you have no experience making widgets. It's possible to make one that's animated by breaking the gif apart and making the widget one big ImageView that's constantly being updated with the new frames, but it might have adverse effects on your battery. I don't think it'll animate on it's own if you simply supply a gif as the drawable for the imageview.

aww man I think making widgets is way beyond my scope I would definitely try it maybe I just got into the whole rooting and flashing roms like a week ago =P but thank you for the reply

No problem, dude. Check out a book called 'Professional Android 2 Application Development' by Rito Meier if you want to take a crack at developing android apps. It's a pretty good book and goes over most of the "fun" stuff (includes widgets, live wallpapers), as well as the basics. You should probably read some Java tutorials beforehand if you've never done any sort of programming, since the book kind of assumes you know that. Good luck!

Android style wallpaper

Is their such an app that allows for a single, wide, wallpaper that scrolls with tabs? I came across HDWall but i am skeptical about using it, plus all i want is what i described above and nothing more.
such features are called panoramic wallpaper, one of android's eye candy IMHO
as far as i know, the only app that able to bring you that panoramic thingy is the HDWall, and judging by the huge number of users, it should be good and safe enough to use.
..or try searching for MaxManila around the forum, it also has the ability to enable panoramic wallpaper, but it'll also put in a lot of other features you might not really need.
otherwise, buy an android phone instead

[Q] SPB Mobile Shell 3.7.2 customization

Hello.
I read about custom widgets, themes, layouts etc. for SPB 3.0.1 and I think it's not too hard to actually make them. I'd very much love to make personal themes, rather than using somebody else's, no matter how eye candy those are. I think you feel me.
Please can anyone spare a minute to direct me to what I need to get started? The problem is I have a Nokia 5230, so it's symbian and I'm aware that the forum is about Windows but I noticed that people know precisely what they're doing and I hope the OS doesn't matter if it's about SPB.
What exactly I want to do is make custom widgets like clock, battery, carrier etc. (more like changing their icons -- shapes, colors -- rather than their functionality/code) I would then collect them into a theme.
Now I saw you had to edit the registry, qa_layouts.dat and some xml files. But as when I say "registry" I say "Windows", I'm starting to loose my hope, plus I don't know a dim about where to start researching.
I read jgjackson's How to add a custom widget but I don't know where to get the dat and what to do with it in the first place.
It all came to me from the fact that I didn't like the default blue SPB theme and my aesthetic demon keeps yelling into my ears: "black and white", "black and white", "greys at least", "transparent widgets", - shut up!! - "B&W" lol

Taking requests for boot animations, graphics etc.

So i just cracked my cs5 back open and started studying up on theming, I'm looking to get into doing full android design but figure let's start small..
Anyhow, any devs looking for designs for logos, signatures, boot animations, graphic elements for UI, etc. shoot me a PM, and any users with ideas, requests, etc, feel free to request on this thread, though I am looking to try and fall in with the devs, i will be open to suggestions if they become common requests, especially boot animations, i am looking to put something out there for people to use instead of bland Asus logos, they get so boring.
Requests are on first come first serve basis, and all work will be voluntary unless otherwise agreed upon.
Thanks!

If I had the original I could modify the images, right now I'm not using any 3d rendering software so I can't make that kind of animation from scratch without downloading a few more applications..i guess I'll get on top of that, but until then I can really only produce 2d animations with proficiency.
Thanks for the link though!

cool, I'll look into it- trying to get CS5 running on ubuntu on mt TF now, that would be perfect lol

8-bit canvas color cycling live wallpaper

Just an idea for some of the more creative people out there, I know this wont get a lot of people interested but its an easy enough project (i think) as most of the work is already done.
http://www.effectgames.com/effect/
used to do alot of cool stuff with retro styled games and ideas, but have since decided to close up and open source it all.
https://github.com/jhuckaby/Effect-Games
My idea was something like a live wallpaper using the canvas cycle demo. i.e.
http://www.effectgames.com/demos/canvascycle/
Could be as simple as choosing a specific scene, or even something more clever like choose a base scene and it changes depending the time of day and the weather.
Im an engineer and programming in java isn't exactly my forte, just giving an idea out to the awesome creative minds here on xda.
Thanks.

Android Animations Discussion

Hello. I just wanted to discuss a little bit about the animations in the android operating system, or rather lack there of. I'm not a developer or coder, so maybe someone in the community can enlighten me a little bit on this topic and maybe perhaps let the rest of us know the direction and future of things to come. maybe there are projects that are currently being worked on that most of us don't know about or haven't heard of yet.
What i was wondering was how come there is so little animation going on in the Android UI itself. I've seen Launchers or shells such as Next Launcher or TSF Laucher which have beautiful animations and transistions, but how come some of these elements haven't been carried over to the android OS itself? One of the major things i've been wanting to see (something that i don't even think 3rd party launchers can do yet) is animated icons. Why is it that on older generation phones (if you recall old nokia monochrome phones and old motorola razor type phones) the little icons used to animate when you used to scroll over them, but on these newer generation phones with quadcore and even octocore processors we still do not have animated icons??? Or how about animated widgets. I have done many extensive searches to find animated widgets, and at best you get like 2 results. Why aren't there more animated widgets such as cool clock widgets that animate?
Thanks for reading my post. I just wanted to open a discussion on this and see if anyone else has any views or input on this.
