[How to?] WP7 Contacts to Android - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an easy way to move contacts from a WP7 device to an Android device? And from Android to WP7?
Thanks all, been having some issues. Syncing into the cloud is not a desired solution for this issue.

You have gmail and all your contacts synced? Then there isn't a problem as the phone pulls all that info off your gmail account for both WP7 and Android.
I can say this as fact as I have both a Samsung Vibrant and HD7.

Wanted a different way not using the cloud because its for client phones at my work, just wanted an easy way to move their data from 1 smart phone to another when the company issues them new devices.

Are the contacts stored on sim cards? For android there is simcopy app, not sure if there is a similar app for wp7 though.

export
you can export all, or groups of contacts from within gmail. it's a very nice feature, being able to gmail someone a complete list of contacts this way. also, exporting via mac-centric cards works nicely.
i keep all our android phones contacts up to date by simply sharing a group with family.
i'd imagine there is a simple way to do this from exchange ( ? ) but we are not and will never be an exchange/windows based home.

i am about to sell my hd7 and get sensation ,please someone to tell me how to save my contacts and the later on how to load them in the new sensation .

Just a quick refresh ... I dont have the htc sensation yet ,i have the hd 7 and what i want to do it save contacts somewhere and later transfer them to the new sensation phone .
please help me to understand how to do that with gmail.

Why downgrade to an inferior sensation? I'd take the HD7 over it any day

People Widget doesn't "remember" defalt actions for contacts

Well, i gave up setting default actions to "call mobile" to all contacts that i have inside of this widget, as every time i reboot they all are gone except the #1 contact in it, that has the setting stored.
Do you have the same behaviour?
Maybe there's some possible fix for that?
I have the same thing going on with mine. I have about 8 contact so far and only 5 of them will keep the default action, so i just gave up until its fixed. Hopefully it will be fixed in the update.
I had this problem and have found the fix....works for me.
Go to the web site for Gmail and put the contacts that you want to keep a "default action" in the "Starred in Android" folder.
No issues here. All mine are sticking. I have them backed up to my exchange server though and did my initial sync to bring them in.

I'm not sure. I've been syncing with exchange since smart phones existed and when I setup my exchange account on my new phones it just pulls everything in. My last phone was an HD2 so I had the people widget setup on that. Every sense Rom I used after that has just synced and pulled them in.

[Q] Nexus S Contacts VS Samsung KIES contact manager

PLEASE, don't just look at my post, please say something.
Hi, I was previously using Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 which have KIES to sync
Contacts, Music, Videos, etc.
I'm now concerning about : how to sync my KIES contacts to my current Nexus S?
Currently, I'm using MIUI 1.10.28. And for me, the contacts manager is not really as good
as Samsung's contact manager.
In Samsung's contact manager, users can recognize some categories of many phone
numbers OF a person with their own unique tag name.
For example :
I have a contact person number called Lucy. Lucy has 5 number which I distinguish
of the numbers tags as follow :
[home] 2341345
[office] 9838643
[mobile] 5656357
[fax] 3456544
[FuNnY] 8624542
So, the distinguishable tags such as : home , office , mobile , fax , is the common tag
name for a number, but what I want is to recognize one or some numbers in a UNIQUE
tag name such as FuNnY (above).
And Samsung's contact manager is also save a photo of the person, a birthday,
an anniversary date, address, email, etc.
My question is :
- Can I sync the whole unique data in Google?
- Is there any comparable / alternative apps like Samsung's contact manager?
- Can I convert the *.spb file to *.vcf without loosing the unique data?
Please help me.
I need my contacts, I love them. And I'm sure that you love yours too
Anyone...?
I wish I could help.
I came from HTC evo shift and that synced for me too. But stock android as nexus is. Does not. No linking. Would be helpful but alas.
Sorry.
Idk if there's a way to do it or not though.

Wow... so there's no hope for my old Samsung KIES contact? Alas... poor me...
Or can I export the *.spb file to vcf with all unique data are also saved?
Its been a while but if i remember right there is an option
in kies to backup your contacts to gmail. That's what i did. .then your contacts will appear a soon as you sync with gmail with your nexus

I even thought you could export your contacts in KIES in .vcf format. That way you can import them in Gmail's contact list and have it sync to your phone. I only used KIES once for a friend so I might be wrong.
Not sure how the special data formats will look though.

I've never tried Stock ROM deeply since I bought Nexus S,
I just flash it immediately to MIUI ROM so I didn't realize that
it can save an unique name tag of a number
But now I'm in love with MIUI. Can MIUI saves the unique name tags too?
Still waiting for answers.....

1) If your old phone is rooted you can use Titanium backup to backup you old apps and then restore them on your new phone.
2) Backup your contacts on your old phone to your Gmail account, then when you sign in on your new phone they should sync automatically (if they then don't manually sync them in the Accounts & sync settings.)

Where on my old phone can I do the gmail update to get my contacts? Just now thinking do I just turn on the sync?
As far as rooting I did want to root! I wanted to make the epic just a tablet games and music for my little man! Is there a way that is somewhat hassle free? I don't need anything special just games and music.
TY!

It's somewhat different for every phone, it should be under Account settings or something similar to that, then select your Gmail account, and manually sync them. You can check that they're backed up properly by logging into Gmail on your desktop and right under the Google logo there should be the word "Gmail" with a drop down menu, click that then go to Contacts, then make sure they're all there.
Look on the Epic sub-forum for how to root, it's a bit different for each phone. If you're fine with the stock UI on your phone I'd suggest just doing a factory reset and then using it as a tablet, if you wanted some sort of custom interface you'd have to check if something like that exists in the Epic sub-forum. There isn't much I can do to help with this, I've never used the Epic.

Whatsapp backup from Android to WP

I'm sending my HTC One in for a warranty claim and would like to know if you can transfer whatsapp backups from an Android device to a WP one. The 1020 is a choice I have when signing up for a new phone plan (which I will be doing soon) so was thinking if I should get this while my HTC is in the shop.
Main priority is being able to restore whatsapp messages from my Android to WP. Any ideas if this is possible? I understand that WP has no file manager so I'm guessing it's not actually possible?
Bump
Anyone?
Really nobody? @[email protected]
Guess not.

As mentioned by WP Central the next version of WhatsApp for WP will be able to do this.
Must be available for download soon.

I can't find that specific post. There is a post about account migration, but that is not what I was after. Account migration ports your whatsapp account to a different number, but what I was looking for was the ability to backup on an Android, restore on WP, then back up on WP and move that back to Android.

[Completed] Importing contacts file (.vef)

Hello to all the XDA family, its been a while for me. You guys have kept on rockin'
I need your help regarding something that got out of my hands apparently!!
I exported my contacts from my HTC One M8 using the native "People" app of the HTC Sense. It prompted me if I wanted to password encrypt the file, I sad yes why not, extra sec. never hurt anybody! Until now !!
It turns out that the file that got exported is a .vef file, very uncommon and I hadn't encountered it before.
I did my research as always, the Google contacts import thing didn't work for me, it accept only .vcf and .csv and I'm hopping you the great community of XDA can help me out here.
I happen to have some very important contacts save there that I must not loose hopefully.
Had anyone ever faced such issue, except from using an HTC phone, which I don't have right now, Is there any other way to get around this.
How do I get my contacts back from an .vef file ?!
Thank you very much to all of you guys and keep on rockin'.
The.Hidden
Any help here guys ?
help guys please
Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
Download Mobogenie or Moborobo to manage your contacts. It seems that it supports .vef files.
