Will you switch services and what phone will you buy?
Depends on the prepaid prices and if current prices will be honored. If not, back to Virgin Mobile I will go. They're getting some good android phones, hopefully dev support picks up for them.
This depends on whether or not I can back out of my contract without paying. If I can, then I'm off to Verizon. I won't stick with AT&T if I don't have to, and I won't go back to Sprint.
Never had an at&t contract or knew anyone that did. I take it they such, huh?

Can't think of a single pleasant experience I ever had with them in a single year of use. Yet in the three years I've been with T-Mobile, I have only had one unpleasant experience.
What? AT&T already bought T-Mobile at like the beginning of this year. I thought they were just waiting on something before they changed things.

What GSM carriers besides the two of them exist in North America? I mean, on a nation-wide scale. Because quite frankly, I can't think of a single one besides AT&T & T-Mobile.
If they're the only two nation-wide ones, and AT&T becomes the ONLY nation-wide GSM carrier, doesn't that make it a monopoly?

Basically it means a company cant go around and purchase all of one industry and corner the market on a certain product or service and be the only one to offer it. Correct me if im wrong.

Yup, that's the idea of it. There has to be competition, or else they can really set the price to whatever they want, blahblahblah.
A while back, ATT nearly was a monopoly, and they were forced to split into many parts and sell those off to increase competition.. Now they are buying everyone back again lol. I used to have Cingular for my mobile service.. then they were bought by ATT about 8-10 years ago. Didn't have a problem with the merge, and my reception actually improved.
I remember having a bad experience with ATT when I moved and transferred my DSL service to my new apt. The service really sucked (it was too far from the connection office), and I wanted to cancel, but was told I still had 3 months left on the old contract. So I let the 3 months go by so I didn't have to pay an ETF.. after that, I called to cancel, and now, they said when I moved, I entered into a new yearly contract at the new address, and would be charged a $250 ETF. I did no such thing, and didn't sign any new contract. It was BS, and took over a month to get rid of them.
Was so pissed off I switched to Sprint later that year, and haven't had any ATT services for about 5 years. I'm happy with T-mo, and their pre-paid $50/month plan is pretty nice. I hope ATT doesn't change that, otherwise I'll be switching carriers again.
Homestly tmobile sucks,especially their customee service..they do provide the weakest lineup compare to other carriers..they dont have roll over minutes or one fav person as your favorite to use unlimites minutes..so for a person who talks a lot and has 1500 minutes still doesnt cut it!!

BS. First off, I have 3 phones that use a shared 1500 minutes, and I use my phone all the time...never even come close to using all my minutes. Second...if you do, just go to the unlimited plan for $49.99, can't beat that.

+1 My wife and I have had T-Mobile for about 10 yrs now and have always been happy. I have 4 lines (2 with 3000 minutes + unlimited text/data and 2 with 600 minutes and 300 texts). I have always been given great service the few times I had to call. They have always given us the new user discount 18-19 months into the contract for cheaper upgrades too. My work cell used to be AT&T, but then changed over to Verizon and I found both of them to be lacking in every way. I always check the Costco phone kiosk for deals. picked up a BB pearl the week it hit for $29, a Samsung Highlight the week it hit for free, and my SGS4G for $50 bucks back in February when it came out for allowing them to change my number on the renewed plan... lol. I missed the MT4g for a penny (yeah, $0.01) by a week for the wife, but still only paid $150 for it.
I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess that depends on what AT&T does with this side of their house. Might swing a GS2 in with a change over if/when it happens. All I know is T-Mobile has always been great to us and we have stayed b/c of that and they have the best plans/pricing out there.

I only pay $9.95 per month for unlimited for each of my five lines. I think I'll stick with that plan.
on a side note, when I called Verizon about upgrading my phone, they insisted on doing it over the phone & stated that for exsisting customers you have to do it that way. however, I called a local Verizon store yesterday and they said I can just go into the store and do it.

Unless the sales person over the phone is offering you something special or exclusive, there is no reason why you can't go into any Verzion Wireless dealer and do an upgrade.
Back on topic, just upgraded my data. 6GB with Mobile Email/Hotspot for $25. Awesome.

did you have to buy a new phone? i am pissed i had unlimited data and washed my old dinc in the washing machine. due to lack of funds i re activated my old flip phone temporarily and then 1 month later bought a Tbolt. now i just looked at my verizon account and i have a 2GB plan. WTF? i am an idiot, i know but how do i get 6 gb for 25?

if i were you i would call verizon and ask to talk to a supervisor & complain big time. try and get that unlimited back if you can.
He was talking about 4gb for being the double and 2gb for mobile hot spot. That is the 6gb.

I know there is no conclusive answer as to the length of the program once activated . i can't find a definative answer if the double is " for the holidays" and expires then, or if it continues through the remainder of the customers current contract.

OP says once you get it, you get it for the contract but if you can't find a definitive response, who knows.
In all the promo material Verizon it states that you will keep it until you opt into something, no longer how long you keep it. However if you switch to a 3G phone you will lose it, and will be unable to get it back.
Verizon has confirmed that this will be grandfathered once you get it.

So T-Mobile US pulled the E-Brake on wireless tethering and now if you want share the data you already pay 30.00/mo addl for (well me atleast), you now have now pay an addl 14.99/mo. I mean yes I keep up with the carrier market and I know they have had terrible numbers the past 2-3 years, but if ur tryng to pull your company out the mud you don't do it by making sadfaces on all you long time loyal customers. I mean can a brotha get a grandfathered account? Lol (hypothetical).
Anyway, I always thought since I was rooted I wouldn't run into this wireless tethering issue but I guess I was wrong. Anybody know or might know or even have an idea of a way around this? Many thanks in advance

The article I read said that when Sensation users are upgrading to ICS they will lose their free tethering. Apparently TMo couldn't clamp down in gingerbread so they just gave it away.
I read that as when I upgrade to a new phone I will lose it as well.

I'm more than sure there will be a way around it, who actually uses the software that originally came with their devices when rooted. I heard the same thing and my next door neighbor has a Sensation and tethering works like a charm. Your not suppose too use it for running your game console and 90% of the time it's those people doing the complaining about using it and getting blocked.

Same here. With a 5gb or 10gb data plan, you can receive free wireless tethering.
If they are changing the contract you can get out of it. I got out of my contract with over a year left due to the changes they enacted on the 9th of April regarding data roaming. They did not want to let me get away without an ETF but I filed a complaint with my local Attorneys General and that fixed that problem real quick.
As of right now I have no contract anymore on my T-Mobile account, I'm just playing it by ear and waiting for a new phone to knock my socks off before I go find another carrier, but it is nice to know I can drop T-Mo at any moment without an ETF
People who were grandfathered in with true unlimited data aren't affected by this as well, right?

I have the 5GB Grandfathered Preferred Android Data plan for $20 and I've been getting the tethering upsell screen. I heard that the free tethering add-on only comes with the $30 5GB plan or the 10GB plan and that they won't add it on to an Preferred Android Data plan.....
Edit: Called Customer Loyalty and they hooked me up with the free hotspot promo on both lines with Android Preferred Data plans after 2 online reps lied to my face. Customer Loyalty is the reason I stay with TMobile, those people are the best of the best and always help out long time customers. Thank you to all you CL reps out there, I know you're reading this

Yeah, they do tend to get you what you want now that the merger dropped. By chance did you ask them it doing that was going to extend your contract? When I did something similar when I had my G1, it ended up locking my service contract for an additional 24 months. My phone upgrade didn't change dates, just my service end date.

It didn't extend my contract, I asked and checked on the website after.
every time i call t-mobile, they keep offering me the hot spot. i let them know i already have it (i dont think it affects GB?) but they insist that i dont. since they are saying i dont have hot spot, does that mean i can use that as an excuse to get out of contract?

Hey, is there ANY difference between the Nexus 5 on the Play Store and the Nexus 5 that T-Mo sells in their stores?
I ask because my gf and I are switching to T-Mobile later this month and she is going to get the Nexus. She wants to be sure that if she doesn't like T-Mo then she can take the phone to another carrier, like AT&T. We want to use the ETF money to get a reduced price on the Nexus, but if we can't bring the phone to another carrier then we might have to buy it from the Play Store instead.

they are exactly the same. play store sells 16 or 32gb, tmo sells 16gb.

Yeah, but Google subsidizes the price because they can afford it. My gf and I are going to see how much money we can get from Verizon's ETF, we might end up saving money thanks to T-Mo.
The only difference between the Nexus at the Google Play store and the T-Mobile store is the one at the T-Mobile store is sold at a substantial markup, while Google Play sells it basically at cost.

I wouldn't call $46 a substantial markup. For some, $46 is worth it for nothing down and a two year payment plan.

AFAIK, if you're going to switch to TMO using their new plans to reimburse ETFs, you have to turn in your old phone and buy a new phone from them directly. I don't think you can BYOD with a Play Store phone? So, assuming the N5s from TMO/Play are using the same bands, you should be able to take directly to AT&T with only a SIM switch. And IF you're ok with only 16GBs of storage. As a few others have said, TMO only sells the 16GB model. Seems stupid to me, but whatever.

If you have grandfathered Verizon unlimited data, selling it on Ebay through an "Assumption of Liability" is the way to go. I just made $350 on my wife and my lines instead of paying $250+ in ETF. It was really easy to do. There's a thread on rootzwiki on how to do it. Search on "Sell Verizon Contract and Keep your Number"

My gf has an old crappy Android that she definitely won't miss over the N5, We aren't worried about trading in a device, we aren't losing anything. And yes, she doesn't care about storage. 16GB will be more than enough for her.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that. My gf has tiered data but I still have unlimited. I'll definitely look into that, thanks for the heads-up.

Verizon prepaid sells new m8's for their prepaid service and lists in the features section of the phone " Shop, Pay & Save with Isis Mobile Wallet. NFC SIM required " But try to set up isis mobile wallet and guess what it says your isis wallet has been terminated and to call verizon. You call and they say isis mobile wallet is not allowed on prepaid, which that is flat out false advertising as they cant list Shop, Pay & Save with Isis Mobile Wallet. NFC SIM required and then say oh no that is only for post paid accounts. I asked to talk to a supervisor which was no help so I asked to speak to her supervisor and got oh they will have to call you back with in 24 hours, and she refused to give me her employee number which was a first as I have had problems with verizon before but they always gave me an employee number for documentation purposes. This is just another load of crap verizon is trying to get away with. I mean its our data were paying for and they want to tell me what I cant use my data for and try to block me from using a feature of the phone one that they clearly list in the features section of the phone right on the verizon prepaid section. And its an app from google play they are blocking me from using just because I"am on prepaid but using a phone they sell for prepaid that lists Shop, Pay & Save with Isis Mobile Wallet. NFC SIM required ???? What kind of crap is this ? Its pure false advertising if it was excluded from prepaid it should not have been listed or listed not available with the prepaid service instead they lied and listed it as a feature of the phone they are selling for use on verizon prepaid... I"am rooted & s-off running viperone 1.8 they just have me blocked from using isis mobile wallet, each time I sign up for isis, it says account terminated call verizon. Check it out my pics show they list isis on the features section of the phone for sale on prepaid section. The gun metal grey one I was looking at that the pictures are of is gone off their web site now, but the glacial silver one is on and lists isis in features also.

I know I can use google wallet since I can remove isis, but people not rooted with s-off cant remove isis mobile wallet and having isis installed and not rooted google wallet wont even show up in google play at all as verizon blocks google wallet.
I just wanted isis because they give you $1 for every purchase you use using isis mobile wallet basically free money until some time in december.
That's true and its also just wrong that they falsely advertised it along with the countless other things Verizon thinks it can do.

Exactly and the rep had the nerve to argue with me trying to say it was just listed as a feature of the phone, well then they should have noted not available with verizon prepaid instead of misleading people and being dishonest.
Honestly they are at such a point customer satisfaction and option doesn't matter

Yeah they are losing a lot of customers and going to lose more as I read they are going to throttle unlimited data customers coming up after they use 4.7 gb's they get throttled. They are losing ground to at&t as at&t is more willing to negotiate and compete verizon has always thought they were too big for their own britches and have always had the attitude that they have the right to be the gready you know whats.

I just wish at&t had better service here as I would get straight talk with at&t for $45 a month unlimited talk and text with 3 gb's of lte data cant beat that deal. And no tmobile coverage here either. I even have weak verizon here too but none with others.
Hey do you remember the name of the supervisor you spoke with? Long story but I had a ruffle similar to yours with they're customer service for a friend not too long ago.

There's a modded version of Isis that works for rooted devices, as well as rootcloak Xposed mod.

Yes she was supposed to be a supervisor her name is Courtney or Kourtney probably the first spelling. Talked to her on 7-25-14 @ 8;45 pm approx. She ( an operations manager ) said her supervisor would get b ack with me with in one hour, and GUESS what ? 3 days later and no call back from anyone and they wonder why they are losing customers in record numbers...

It has nothing to do with the app its that verizon wont let you open an isis account if your on verizon prepaid even though the picture links I added clearly show they list isis mobile wallet as a feature selling the m8 new for use on verizon prepaid. Its just a clear case of false advertising I really hope an attorney somewhere sees this and documents it and sues verizon for it. Verizon = dirtiest money hungry customer abusing company that has ever existed...

Nope it was being locked out of using the isis mobile wallet by verizon just because I"am on the verizon prepaid and not the post paid any longer. The isis is supposed to be a joint venture with verizon, at&t and tmobile, but tmobile is all prepaid now isnt it ? I know its no contract at least and verizon has to be as petty as they can. Omg you would not believe how hard the verizon reps tried to get me to stay post paid it made me think they are being punished by verizon I wouldnt doubt it as bad as verizon is on customers they are probably extremely worse on their employees. I was like really shocked how many times they tried too and I explained over and over that verizon prepaid was a lot less and that I can get refills through prepaidonline.com cheaper and they dont charge me tax to use them to add money to my verizon prepaid account. Verizons sales have dropped big time this last quarter only thing keeping numbers up was tablet activations, and now they have many people defecting from post pait to prepaid since the prepaid side got 4g lte data back on the 17th and now allow any verizon 4g lte phone to be activated on prepaid they even sell the m8 and s4 and s5 on the prepaid side to run on prepaid. Even though at&t, sprint and tmobile all have had 4g lte data on their prepaid plans for a long time now.
