You can export it to csv and import it from the other account.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard...

Perhaps, but it's the official google way to do it:
Exporting Gmail contacts Share Comment
You can quickly export your Gmail Contacts list into a CSV file. Here's how:
Sign in to Gmail.
Click Contacts along the side of any Gmail page.
From the More actions drop-down menu, select Export....
Choose whether to export all contacts or only one group.
Select the format in which you'd like to export your contacts' information. Please note, some of these formats can lose some contact information.
To transfer contacts between Google accounts, use the Google CSV format. This is the recommended way to back up your Google Contacts.
To transfer contacts to Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or various other apps, use the Outlook CSV format.
To transfer contacts to Apple Address Book, use the vCard format.
Click Export.
Choose Save to Disk then click OK.
Select a location to save your file, and click OK.
Depending on the requirements of the program to which you're importing your contacts, you can easily edit the file to fit your needs.

Contact export

Hi guys,
I am desperatly seeking for a solution on my contact export. Right now I am running CM 5.0.4.1 and the internal contact exporter has a problem.
I save my contacts with their international prefix e.g.+49xxx for Germany. The exporter cuts the + and leaves the rest...
So I was trying a looot of other exporters but none could fit my needs. One was e.g. not exporting contact images. I don't want anything fancy or so. Just an export.
Any idea guys?
Thanks in advance!

Your contacts are in your google account... just log into google on a PC/MAC and export from the web. You can go into gmail, then click contacts on the left, then in the upper right of the border for the contact display you'll see "import" and "export"
*edit*
If you dump to a CSV file and some of your contacts are missing the calling codes, just do a concatenate on it with the proper field, then repopulate that column with the new data.

Hi mikebeatrice,
thanks a lot for your suggestions.
I am not using Google sync for anything. Just having the account for the market. I don't want Google to know about my contacts and therefore looking for a 3rd party application.
Thanks anyway and hoping for some other suggestions.
Best Regards

[Q] Importing CSV contacts?

Saved my contacts from my iPhone on a CSV format.
I put this file on the external SD card (how do U know which is the external and which is the internal by the way?)
Went into the Infuse contacts, then "import/export" and I get "could not find Vcard contacts" (or something like that).
Any help?
Thanks so much

Import them into gmail and they'll sync right to your phone.

THANK YOU!
Why would anyone want their entire GMAIL contacts synced to their phone? Please, is there no other way?
Thank you

I think you can set up gmail and the phone to only sync a subset of contacts.

You can. Best set up at gmail.com
You can set too sync...not to sync and can set predetermined groups. (in the past user created groups would not sync I have not played with that in several months)
once set up properly the whole google sync thing is pretty slick.
One can also login to multiple gmail accounts on the phone.
I have two currently...the main log in which is personal/phone
And a secondary account which is work
Keep in mind that changing the main phone account requires a hard reset.
Within the phone you can set up which contacts are pulled from gmail like including only contacts with phone numbers etc.

HTC chacha won't update contacts to gmail

Hello all.
Just bought a HTC Chacha.
I have transfered my contacts from my old phone to Chacha, but even though I have "Sync Contacts" enabled (Home->Settings->Data Sync->Google->Contacts) on the phone I don't see these contact details when I log into Gmail on my Win PC and click contacts???
I found the similar issue in this thread, and someone gave a explanation.

Hi guys...
Actually the problem is with the HTC... when u sync ur contacts 2 ur fone it downloads the contacts 4m gmail but not sync and stores in ur phone... if u wanna do so u need to export all the contacts to ur SD card n import back to the gmail... this syncs all the contacts to gmail including facebook, twitter n flicr links if any... these contacts are stored as other contacts in gmail... so after this if u add a contact in gmail n u want them to show in ur fone that shud be added in the other folder only... my contacts in gmail does not synced to fone...
All this **** kinda thing is entirely due to htc sync... in vanilla android all the contacts are in sync all the time automagically...
Apologies if this is confusing, coz I'm typing this on my fone...

Are there any way to fix it?

Go to people tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to export the contacts to the SD card.
Go to people again, tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to import the contacts from the SD card, when the phone prompts you which type of contact you want to import choose “Google”.
Then sync. Now you have the phone contacts on your GMail account.

Actually it's not an issue of ChaCha, all Android phones work the same. I can confirm Galaxy S does the same (at least on 2.1-update1) which was my previous phone. Maybe you have already performed this on your Galaxy and forgot about it
On every Android phone you need to perform the steps I said above (Export contacts to SD card, Import from SD card as GMail contacts, sync).

Thank you Alex, I remind that I didn't import contacts from my old phone to Galaxy S.
Another guy transfer from Galaxy S to Chacha
I never had to do this ever, Google contacts always sync'd fine scores all my phones...

Yes, once you have them on the GMail server. But if you never had contacts there and only on your phone then you need to perform the steps above. (These steps are provided by Samsung and HTC).
Ah... Got you now, explains why! Thanks

SIM or Phone?
Thanks for the info above - I'm having the same problem. I am confused tho -
If I go in to 'People - All', this offers a relatively small list of contact names but if I go into 'People - Groups' then I can see all my labels from one of my gmail accounts which is a much larger number of contact names. Where is this 'People-All'? Is it on my SIM or the Phone or...?
ie if I want to export ONLY the contacts in 'People - All' onto my SD card, then do I need to choose to export from my 'Phone' or from my 'SIM'???
I am desperate to get this done as I want to print all these contacts off from my PC's gmail account. I'm going to be out of internet/Wifi contact for a while and I may need some of the telephone numbers urgently.
What I don't understand is how come all of the group labels I've created in 'People' now appear in my Gmail account but with only a few of the contacts.
If I've added contacts to People manually - have I added them to my SIM or my Phone or my SD...??
Thanks!!!

All contacts messed up - Help me

Here is the thing:
I have my own way of storing contacts - sorted by company name (abbreviated, etc). I have very neatly stored contacts in E71. Personal and Work contacts are separated using separate prefixes (like Professional. John Grisham & Personal. Mike)
Now I dont know how to keep contacts this way while transfering them from E71 to Atrix 2.
I tried to migrate contacts after setting my work email and my phone has somehow created (imported?) about 300 work contacts and now they are duplicated. John now appears twice, once as Professional. John Grisham and John Grisham) !!!
This is ridiculous. It has taken my 10hours just to set up Atrix2. I have probably made a big mistake buying an android. Simplicity is nowhere to be seen.
Someone help me out. How to "not import" work contact and keep only the contacts which I have in E71 ?
Also tell me a quick way to delete these auto-generated 300 work contacts.
Did you not backup your saved contacts in the way you'd like to sort the in vCard format? If so you can just copy the vCard file to your SD card and import contacts from there...

If your contacts are sync'd with google, go to gmail -> contacts. There you'll find an action "find and merge duplicates" under "More". With high possibility, it'll merge all your duplicates to single copies. Whichever fails, it is easy to delete those duplicates just by selecting them and deleting. So once you have a neat contact list in your gmail, you can sync it back to phone.

$20 Bounty for helping recover contacts from GV backup

I have a Google Voice backup(Titanium and TWRP) with my contacts that are lost from my Google account and I've been trying to recover them with all the associated data(pic/birthday/etc). I've had no luck on my own or asking elsewhere.

From the reddit thread you have
--> Disable Sync
--> Restore Backup
You can see your contacts here
--> Go to contacts app
--> Select all contacts
--> Click share button
You will get a .vcf file
--> Download .vcf file
--> Go to contacts on web and import the .vcf file.
--> They should be available on Sync again

Thats a bit weird. Contacts sync was an issue in older androids that's why I had .vcf backups
Well, I am not sure what DB google voice uses, but if it's not encrypted, you can view it in DB viewer for SQLite and export the contacts as CSV.
and probably import that into you google contacts.
Still no luck
You should save a couple copies on multiple hdds/flash drives. People forget to back up these small databases... until they're gone
Maybe there's a copy on a old sim card?

Yeah never thought to back them up. I just really hate that I can see them but have no idea how to get them to anywhere else. Unfortunately they have only ever been in my Google account.

I had a similar experience and but had backed them up. For whatever reason chunks of the contacts vanished.
It's important to keep copies that aren't on that device at all. In a blink of an eye a virus or rootkit could destroy them all.
I use multiple hdds that aren't synced at the same time so at least most of my data is safe no matter what happens. Cloud stuff can get wiped or become inaccessible too so I put little faith in it.
Maybe an old phone you have, some is better than none. Backed up on a laptop or by a forgotten app maybe?
Maybe still stored on Google... worth a try? Google backup might take a day or so to restore them and may not even indicate they were saved. May work even if backup has been disabled by enabling it again. Google's a mess.

You need to search your brain if the Google backup is gone.
Maybe you backed them up long ago on another hdd or flash drive.
Samsung cloud?
A carrier based app?
Think and search. An old laptop or PC hdd?
You can't retrieve what isn't there though...

I've looked and no luck unfortunately.
I can see them in the GV app and at this point it isn't a huge deal to retype them from scratch, but at least some of the photos are irreplaceable.

Well it's there... you need to find out where.
Assuming it's accessible on an unrooted phone.
I've never gotten into that mess. Hopefully someone here has and can give you better advice.
