[Q] Fission Home Dock remove? - Droid 2 Global General

Is there any way to disable the home dock in Fission? I was able to do it with the stock ROMs by freezing "Home Dock" but that app isn't available in Fission, and having it come up and automatically lock my D2G is not what I want.

The app you want to freeze is /system/app/DeskClock.apk.

Thanks. In Uninstaller Root Pro it was listed simply as Clock. It has been frozen. Yea! No more home dock.

[APP] Launcher Pro Beta (super fast)

I just came across LauncherPro Beta in the market. Man it's fast. Smoothest scrolling I have seen on any launcher.
http://www.launcherpro.com/
I'm very impressed with it
Wow! you're right, the scrolling is so much smoother than stock. I don't like the icons at the bottom though. I'm gonna try switching them with NinjaMorph
wow yeh...once the docks are customisable then this is the best launcher out there...easy
How do you activate the home screen previews?

I'm loving it. It's super fast and like the new screen selection overview
not bad, in fact, it's very good and responsive; couple of things that i'd like
1. most of you have already mentioned customizable docks (the only one i'd actually like to remove is the contact and replace it with market)
2. remove the text on the homescreens (like helixlauncher) for shortcuts/widgets
Holy crap this IS fast. Hope they make the dock a little bit like Helix2, and it'll be perfect.
Wow amazing!! A few things still need to be implemented (love walls, custom dock) but the Dev has already stated he is working on it. A few other things, there is no home icon once you're in the app drawer, you have to press the back button to access the home screens again. Also, there is no '3D effect' with the drawer scrolling.
Will be my default wall for sure after those issues are resolved. GREAT start though!
Noob question....How do you switch between launchers? I had Launcher pro activated then went to settings, manage applications and force stopped it to go back to the original I had running but now want to turn back on LauncherPro to compare and not quite sure how to do that, thanks for any help

clear defaults for the launcher, press home, and then it should ask what launcher you want to use.

On the same screen, press the 'Clear Defaults' button. Then press the home button on your phone and it should prompt you to select the launcher of your choice

Go into Settings> Applications> Manage applications> scroll to whichever launcher you have set to default, select it, then select "clear defaults." After that, when you press the Home button you'll have the choice of which launcher to use and can set your option as default.

an easier solution is to use the free app on the market called Home Switcher
i just installed it and it's very simple and easy to use; one click and you can switch default to whatever launcher you have installed
It would be great if we could get a system app version.
I think I got it, thanks!

you may want to try ADW launcher and HelixLauncher (1 or 2)
Damn. After about 30 mins of use, I've decided that Helix has some serious competition here. I've been asking arctu/Faruq to add the Sense UI style home screen previews for months now, and he just couldn't do it. This is kick ass. If only it allowed pinch gesturing to trigger the previews.
Awesome Launcher, thanks for sharing!

[Q] Switch between launchers?

I'm currently using SPB Shell 3d, and I love it. This phone has the resources to make it shine.
However, there are certain situations where I would prefer to have a minimalist setup on my phone. And so I was considering adding a launcher like adw, golauncher, or launcherpro so that I could customize it to use just 1 screen, and then organize my apps in the drawer into folders.
The question is, if I install another launcher and switch back and forth (either using the home button to select the other launcher, or using an app like Home Switcher), will my phone keep my settings that I've already customized for SPB Shell? When I decide to switch back to SPB, will it automatically put my widgets and stuff back the way I had it? There is no specific "backup" feature in SPB Shell 3D, which makes me question this. I know ADW has a way to backup and restore.
Any experience with this would be appreciated.

If you don't set one as default whenever you hit the home button you can choose the launcher you want.

TouchWiz App Drawer's Icon Order

On my old Samsung Vibrant, the TouchWiz app drawer had an option to list the icons in an alphabetical grid, but I don't seem to have that option on the Charge. I can get an alphabetical list or I can get a grid that lists all the system apps first, then the apps I've installed.
Is there any way to get the alphabetical grid back? I really don't want to have to wipe the Home app's data every time I want to alphabetize the app list...

I have not used this one before but his other app requires root and is being deleted from the market soon. This one does not require root and it should work.
I just tried it out and it works well.
Kind of silly that it doens't do this automatically like the Vibrant does, but this app works. Thanks!

+1. I felt the same way after coming from my Vibrant!

Launchers

I am very happy with the Launcher that comes with the Atrix 2. Why would I purchase or download a different one?
Ermmmm... Well first off, customisability and... nothing more?
If that launcher fits your needs then keep it
Just to have more options......
I'm switched but now am back to running stock.

Customizability and tons of more options. With an aftermarket launcher, you can pretty much tweak the look and feel of your device to suit your needs and desires. You can make it look like "your" device. It doesn't hurt anything to install one of the free launchers and try it out. I would actually recommend it. I personally use LauncherPro but ADW and GoLauncher are pretty good choices as well. If they don't suit your needs then there are many other options on the market. If none of them spark your interest then the stock launcher may be your launcher of choice. It's all about options and choices...Take that iPhone guys!!!
I was fine with the stock launcher with one exception...I cannot stand the horizontal page scrolling for the app drawer. If I wanted my phone to behave like an iPhone I would have kept my iPhone.
So I use ADW or Zeam and got the vertical scrolling back.
In case anyone cared, ADW EX is one of the 10 cent apps on the market today. I typically use Go Launcher, but I'll try out ADW again. Customization is always cool with a launcher.
Most helpful reply, lilhaiti. I am not familiar with Launchers, new to Android, but quick to learn. Thanks!
Sorry if I hijack the thread, but today I installed the ADW Ex and I don't know how to switch back to the original launcher.
Can anyone give me a hand?
I have not found a way to switch without uninstalling ADW. There used to be (still is?) a "home switcher" app in the market. I have used it in the past on other phones I've owned. I don't know if that would work on our phones or not.
The home switcher app should work. Otherwise, you can go to manage apps from settings, select the launcher and remove default. Once you hit your home button again, it will ask you to select your default again.

D'oh! I totally forgot about the remove default option. Using an iPhone for 7 months made me dumb.
Thanks for the answers. I went to app manager and under ADW the option "clear defaults" is greyed (not available) and it says "No defaults set".
Edit: I just tried the home switcher app and it doesn't work either, I can "launch" the original launcher but when I put "set as default" the app crashes.
Do you think if I uninstall ADW I would go back to the original launcher?

I would assume that uninstalling adw would let you choose the stock launcher the next time you hit your home button.

This should be true. For some reason with this phone when you install a third party launcher it automatically sets that launcher to default. So by removing ADW you should get the stock launcher back.
I don't know much about this launcher, but ADWLauncher EX is on sale for $0.10 on the Android Market ONLY today. If you want to try it, tonight is the time to get it.
P.S- There's a useful free tool called "HomeSmack" that lets you toggle between multiple launchers at once.

Titanium Backup Bloat Freeze

When trying to remove bloat from my phone with titanium backup I freeze the apps. After freezing them they still are in the app drawer and in the market. I can't open them up or anything anymore, but do anyone else know if there is a special setting or something I need to use to get it out of the app drawer?

That's because freezing only prevents the app from running, it doesn't do what you're thinking it does. You can disable apps you don't want in Settings -> Apps -> All if you still want to keeps the apps around on your phone (but hidden from the app drawer) or you can uninstall them directly from Titanium Backup
On my previous phone freezing hid the apps from the drawer AND it explicitly says when you freeze them that they are now hidden from the app drawer. It is supposed to hide it like its uninstalled but be easy to unfreeze. That's the whole point of it...

Obviously I don't know as much as I think I do
Well if nothing else your post let's me know that others are experiencing the same problem even if they don't realize it is a problem?
Which apps? Everything I've frozen with Titanium gets removed just fine from the app drawer. This includes all the AT&T bloat: anything with "AT&T" in it, MOG, Top HD Games, Yellow Pages, and a couple others.
All of that crap. For example I have all the ATT stuff frozen but they still show up.
1 did you specify any different settings for titanium?
2 what launcher are you using? I'm looking in launcher pro
Nevermind updating appears to have fixed the problem.
