Okay, so I got go sms, and I love the app so far, but, anytime I try to select a notification from "music", I notice it doesn't play when I test it, or receive a text, but when I preview it, it plays. I mentioned this several times in the go SMS thread, and two updates later, the issue still exists. Any ideas how to fix this, THANKS.
Sent from my rooted, JITed, X10, using my fingers, my eyes, one of my brain's four cores (Take that tegra 2), and Oh, the XDA app.
that's odd. mine doesn't even select the music. after i click OK it defaults back to current ringtone.
Same I also have the same both error ringtone back to default or ringtone in music dont work. And I thought there was something wrong with my SDcard because my ringtone was save in SDcard. It works fine after I send my ringtone to root/../notification sound. But sometimes the ringtone still goes missing, no ringtone just virbation.

Hi All, I've noticed that a few times my TC has stopped playing alerts for SMS & Emails. I've gone into the "alerts & notifications" page, and when I select the SMS or Email drop down and hit the play button, it still doesn't work. (Standard phone call ringer still works though)
As soon as I change the choice of alert, and back again, it starts working again.
Any idea what's causing it to stop, or maybe hang? I've tried using different tones, but it's still the same; works for a while and then doesn't.
try after changing u,r sound profile.
FWIW, I had the same problem with my Touch/Elf when using an MP3 for alerts. Sounds like a little software bug to me.
jefmcg, I've tried changing the MP3s to WAV but it still happens.
Alipi, you seem to be right, it happens after I've change to silent and back again. It doesn't seem to put the email and SMS tone back to normal volume.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I'm using the O2 profiles app to change profiles, as the HTC home one doesn't allow you to put any additional ones on. I like to have a "sleep" profile, which doesn't beep for SMS or email, but does ring the phone.
Open to any suggestions or workarounds!

Hi,
I have the same problem. But until today I though I´m alone . And I haven´t investigate that it arises after I switched form silent to "normal". Have to look into this as well...
Sorry, but I haven´t got any workaround, maybe someone else...
Pobably dont belong in this thread but i have the exact same issue/problem with my Tmo Wing, everytime i change the sms tone (incoming text) it works fine for the first 5 or so text but after that just goes silent when receiving new ones...a fix or advice would really be appreciated...i have no clue
UPDATE!
Ok, so I'm an idiot!
I thought I had deleted the mp3 versions of my ringtones and replaced them with wav files, but I hadn't. I've since done it, and whilst they do sound slightly different (crap converter?), it SEEMS to have fixed the problem....
...at least I've tried to move in and out of silent a few times, and the tones still sound!
So, guys, perhaps try converting them to WAV and go from there. FYI, my tones sit in the windows folder.

No - for some strange reason, ring tones need to be in \WINDOWS\RINGS, but SMS and other notification tones need to be in \WINDOWS.
Yet Another Update!
OK, so converting to WAV, only worked for a while, it did eventually stop beeping for texts and emails.
HOWEVER... philip gave me a great recommendation of PocketZenPhone, which is much more powerful at managing profiles, and especially on the text and email alerts, ACTUALLY WORKS!
This is an odd issue I've had since day one.
I've defined a notification sound for all incoming events, however, when I receive an SMS text from a certain contact, my phone plays a Led Zeppelin tune I have on my SD card.
Doesn't happen with anything else.
It's driving me insane cause I can't find this setting anywhere.
Anyone else experience this and have any suggestions?

Have you tried going into settings inside the sms app to change it? thats how I did mine.
I'm having the same problem. I've gone through all of the notification settings many times and still no luck.
I've gone into the settings and change my default notification sound from Cloud to anything else but it won't change. I can select any other sound but when I get a notification it still plays the Cloud sound.
I go check under setting and it is set to the other sound I chose but it still plays Cloud only.
Any thoughts or ideas
change in individual app's settings: email, text, etc. It held changes after doing so. Main sound settings should, but for some reason don't.

What apps in this behavior occurring in? All apps? One app? Be specific please.
It's happening when I get a text message or E-Mail notification. I set the Notification sound under sound settings and it always plays Cloud instead of whatever I do choose.
I found the setting in Messages to set it for the sound I want. My bad. Thanks for pointing me right way...
I'm having the same problem.
I have the main notifications sound in the setting main menu to clouds for example, I'm using K9 mail and I have the sound for incoming mail set to something else, but when new mail arrives I get the main sys sound of Clouds. I tried setting up the stock email client and had the same result. The Text message sound plays different, but not the email.
Anyone know?
I was able to set both in their own apps. Messages & G-Mail the sound settings were there. It is now working on mine. I just failed to find it at first.
Everything was fine until I realized I cant change my custom ringtone anymore. Whatever ringtone I set the custom one would ring even though it showed the other one is selected. So I deleted the ringtone and then was able to change it.
However only after a little while the phone just stopped ringing, the default tone seems to be silent and whatever I put it wont change. I put back my custom ringtone, rebooted, then deleted all the custom ringtones again and yet I am unable to get my phone to ring.
I have tried setting a ringtone through playerpro music player as well but to no avail.
The notification sound comes as normal. I am running stock unrooted 4.0.4. What should I do?
Figured out the problem. There were some specific contacts that did not have a ringtone assigned to them and my own second phone was one of them from which I was doing the testing. I was using a profile scheduler app previously and in that I had put some of the contacts on the whitelist to allow them to call me even on silent mode. So it was the app which was controlling those contacts and even after uninstalling it the settings hadnt defaulted.
I have searched on the site and don't find this issue. Despite everything I have tried, I cannot change the from the soft, default Google Messages notification sound. I have even tried changing individual sounds on a person by person basis and that doesn't work. I have gone into sounds and notifications in settings, also tried by going into the Messages app. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Easy way just get Zedge and add new sound through that

I can change the system default with no problem but the default per contact is a fail, so I feel you. Same with other alerts, like my Google Cameras. Wil lNOT set a different alert sound than the system default

I can't even get the default to change. I have tried everything I can think of. Sounds and notifications, in the app itself, just can't figure it out and this is my 4th Pixel.
There are two locations for "setting" notification sounds for Google Messages as well as "default notification sound" UNDER "Sound and Vibration"!
Now if both of these are set to the same thing then everything will work OK. However, if the default location is set to one sound and the app setting is something else...then it's a toss up as to which will take precedence.
So here is my suggestion for two possible solutions.
Under settings>Sound and vibration>Default notification sound>My Sounds and select NONE. Now you can go to the messages app itself and tap on your avatar in the top right>Messages settings>Notifications>Other notifications>Sound and choose whatever sound you want. This will give you the sound you want for any messages you receive in the messages app. However, this will leave any other type of notifications such as a calendar reminder with NO sound (unless you assign one specifically to the calendar in the same relative manner as you just did with messages. I chose the calendar as an example because once you dig in and find the notification sound set for your calendar it is probably set to "Default notification sound" which you just set to NONE.
The second possible solution is to change the default notification sound to what you want and the messages app to the same sound. This will ALSO make all the other notification type sounds the same as in the previous calendar example.
Now you can always set the calendar to some thing different and it MIGHT work as you set it despite the default being set to something specific and it might not.
So of the two methods I have suggested the one that should work the best is to set the default notification sound to NONE and then go into each individual app that may give off a notification sound and give each one what you want. I hope this helps!
I am able to change my default sound to a different per app basis by going to profile picture and then clicking on message settings and select notifications then selecting behavior sound and more and from there select incoming messages then choose your sound for your messages. This is how google messages does it

Thank you for the detailed write up. I tried both solutions but still nothing. I even took this one step further and tried to sync the two with the ring sound so all three would be identical. However I can't do that because none of the tones in the ring match notifications or message sounds. I don't know what the glitch in my matrix is, but this is frustrating as heck. This isn't my first rodeo, and I refuse to believe I have some special P7P that prevents message notification modifications.

Can you share a screenshot of the "Behavior Sound" screen? I don't see that as an option on my P7P. Thank you for the response.
Here you go
Oh I forgot 1
I'm sorry I put it kinda step by step I just put it the way I would like to see it
Please let me know if I can be a further help to you
I also do not have a setting called "behavior sound"?
I wonder if it appears due to a particular setting or because of the model number of your P7P?
Here is a YouTube video telling you how

It is so weird, after playing with settings for days, yesterday I started hearing my phone doing the notification for when out Ring cameras detect movement. Since I don't always check the video right away, it took until this morning to understand now my message notifications have started using same ring tone. What is weird is I set that tone during the time of this conversation. Huh...
