Description:
Simple app to stream audio to your bluetooth mono headset.
Released as donationware, so if you like it show your appreciation
Requires Android 2.2 or higher. Tested on stock HTC Evo 4G ROM (2.2) and CM7 RC1.
Notes:
- Make sure your headset is connected BEFORE clicking 'On'
- To use with Skype you must enable BTmono AFTER starting a Skype call.
- To reduce static, set the 'Media Volume' slider to max and reduce the 'Bluetooth In-Call Volume' via your phone/headset.
- This version contains a workaround for a bug in Android 2.2 which causes a system crash under certain circumstances. If you are on 2.2, do NOT disable Bluetooth while the stream is running or your phone WILL reboot (sorry - tell your phone manufacturer to move to 2.2.1+). The bug has been fixed as of Android 2.2.1.
Features:
- Widget!!
- Automatically enable Bluetooth on app launch (user can still choose not to allow this). Make sure your headset is actually CONNECTED before hitting 'On.'
- In-app 'Media Volume' control. Adjust the 'Bluetooth In-Call Volume' using the physical buttons on your phone or headset.
- Ongoing Status Bar notification while the program is running.
- Skype support (if enabled after call is started)
To-do:
- Possible - map headset button to 'next track'
- Other features?
Changelog:
v1.2
- fix crash on ICS
- fix status bar icons on Android 3.0+
- utilize new bluetooth "in-communication" mode for Android 3.0+. *Should* integrate better with VOIP apps, etc.
- automatically detect if user is on Gingerbread or greater - no need to select the Android 2.2.1+ setting in preferences. If you are on 2.2.1 you still need to select this for a cleaner shutdown when you press Off. There was no API level change between 2.2 and 2.2.1 so I can't (easily) do it for you automatically.
v1.1.1
- choose Android's color
v1.1
- Auto reconnect after phone call
v1.0
- Widget!
- Rewrite to eliminate disconnects (hopefully)
- Option for better shutdown on 2.2.1+
v0.3.1
- user prefs - Auto-On
v0.3
- small UI change - Android says hi
v0.2
- added in-app 'Media Volume' control
- added bluetooth check on startup
- added ongoing activity notification
v0.1 - initial release
Sweet. How does music sound when going through this? Also, are you saying there is no way to alter the media vlume when this is running?

Sound quality blows, but that's just the way it is. It's mainly just for people who have an old mono headset laying around and want to listen to podcasts, etc.
Unfortunately, there is no way to change 'Media' volume while it's running. You can adjust 'Bluetooth In-Call' volume, but if your media volume is muted you won't hear anything.
please don't
Turn on bluetooth and set media volume to desired level before running the app (will do this automatically in future releases if there is demand for it).
please dont do this! applications that alter volumes are really bad. user does not know about it , and then in a quiet room later you will suddenly be balsted with some sounds, when u turn off BT.
also another app could be running at the same time, and you have no way of knowing what the user wants.
skype
As for the microphone, I hadn't really considered that. I was thinking of this as purely a means of getting audio from the phone to the BT headset. Does Skype not work with a BT headset using the standard headset profile?
i hope u can also do mic.
no skype unfortunately (on my galaxy s) does always use the phones speaker and cant use the headset :-(
so i was waiting for an app like that for a long time.
another question:
why must the sound quality be bad?
just because its mono? or because of BT? i dont understand

Point taken. I could save the unadjusted level and restore it to that when disabling though.

I'll look into the mic. I figured Skype would work with a headset by default.

The telephony/headset profile uses low quality audio. OK for calls, sucks for music. If you need high quality audio you'll need to get an A2DP headset.
Point taken. I could save the unadjusted level and restore it to that when disabling though.
i hope this will be a configurable option [yes/no]
because if another program is running also (mutlitasking) then setting the level back to what it was before , may also be wrong and confuse the user.
if the user has meanwhile changed the volume in another program.
Well, the easiest thing would be to just leave it how it is
So unless other people want the option to set media volume, I'll just leave it alone.

I'd at least love the auto turn bluetooth on(if off), and then auto turn off(or leave on if it was on originally).
nice one : )
I found 2 apps like this for 5$, but it doesn't worth it because the sound quality
But now I will test it for a few days, and if I can use it with my white eares, I'll send you some money
Or you can just add an advertisement line to the bottom : ) And if you promote it enough, than you can get some money for your work - just think about the Angry birds, they have a lot of income from ads
My BT works with music without an app...
Maybe not all BT have a media profile?
Now what would be really cool and worth while, is an app that I can choose exactly what audio goes through the BT. Just for example have my navigation directions through the BT but music through the audio port.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Great app! Why does it require froyo though? Isn't it supported in eclair?
I'm an unrooted Evo user with stock 2.2 ROM. I installed the program and tried it with a non-A2DP Plantronics bluetooth. I ran into problems when I received a phone call while listening to streaming music--the phone call came through, and the music went silent in the bluetooth, but the music switched back to the phone and continued to play. When the phone call was complete, the music did not resume in the bluetooth. I had to manually go back and turn off/on the BTMono app to resume.
A more significant problem is when I physically turn off the bluetooth while BTMono is streaming music for me, the phone autorestarts....it apparently did not like that action. I do not know if physically turning off the bluetooth headset while BTMono is turned on, but not streaming music would result in an autorestart.
Thanks, and please let me know if I can make adjustments on my phone or if this is an app issue that can be worked out.

Agreed, I would be interested to have a choice of "what" is sent to BT. Navigation to BT is a big boon to me a well - this is a good start!
Suggestion, some way to tell when BTmono is "on" would be great, .e.g. tray indicator or app icon changes color.
Cheers
Good ideas everyone! Keep them coming.
I'll address everyone's specific questions/comments late on Sunday or Monday. Got a busy weekend
sounds good - may have to give this a quick go
To control the media volume you could use audio manager, I tried and it work

The newest versions of Google Maps and Navigation have combined the Navigation volume with the Media Volume. I've read that by rolling back the version of the app to somewhere around 5.7 - 5.8, you can get your separate Nav and Media volume back, however I'd like to keep the latest version. Is there an app somewhere that allows for control of individual application volumes (similar to the newer versions of Windows' volume mixer)? I'd like to be able to separate the voice and media again.
Thanks,
Dan

Close but no cigar. This app only allows volume control of existing system functions like media, notifications, ringer, etc. Since the latest versions of Google Maps cram voice navigation and media (music, etc) into the same category, I can't control them independently.
A little back story:
I have a new motorcycle helmet with bluetooth capability. I need to be able to hear the navigation over my music. I'd turn music off and JUST have navigation, BUT... there is a delay between the navigation speaking and the bluetooth realizing it and switching back on from an idle/sleep mode, resulting in me missing directions.
What I want is for pandora to play sweet and soft tunes into my earholes while I'm riding, and for me to be able to crank the navigation volume WAY THE HELL UP so I can hear it. With the audio constantly playing through it I won't have the bluetooth wake-from-rest problem that I have using navigation alone.

It's been awhile, so I don't know if my memory serve me right. But there is a hidden menu for the audio settings for the Charge. If you do a search for the code, once you in, you can set the volume for navigation and media volume to balance out. There should be a threads in this forum for the recommended settings. Good luck.

The hidden menu option looks like it works (I can still do test mode, screen debugging, etc) but the dialer code for the audio menu no longer works (I'm on FP1, stock debloated).
Back to square one.
I'd rather have the app I'm looking for than try to hack the audio settings.
Well, I have finally found someone with EXACTLY similar problem!
I also ride a motorcycle and also listen to the music while riding and ALSO use Google Navigation!! Long ago there were good days when some version of GMaps/Navigation had a separate volume control but now it's gone.
It is impossible to hear anything with the music playing. I have tried several workarounds - one of them is to use PowerAmp and to force it to pause music every time any "other" sound plays. It didn't work. Or, well, technically it did, but the difference in volume levels between the music and navigation was so high, that I couldn't hear a thing.
I see a lot of people posting thingies like Super-Beats, Super-Duper-Beats, Super-Duper-Awesome-Beats, claiming that this is some sort of "audio driver" that is getting installed "on the system level" so that the sound is better/louder/deeper/crispier. I guess what we need is a similar solution, that would just add more "audio channels" - a separate one for Navigation, probably for smth else.
Is it at all doable?
Cheers'n'thanks!

Hi guys,
because my wife is deaf, we are thinking about buying a SmartWatch and an attachable microphone and then trigger a vibration on the SmartWatch whenever a noise is detected on the microphone, which is attached to the baby's cloth.
Do you know if that is feasible?
Do you know of any similar solutions?
How would you implement it?
Thanks for you help!!
I don't think there's anything like that out right now. Closest I've got is an app called Watcher https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartphoneremote.watcher .
It turns any phone into a remote camera (within bluetooth range) & the picture can be viewed on the smartwatch.
The app can also be set to detect movement, which when picked up alerts the smartwatch via vibration.
You can also enable & disable flash via the smartwatch.
Could be worth emailing the dev to see if he can make something more tailored to your needs.
Good luck.

Thanks for the link - it is close, but instead of a camera with motion sensor, we would need a microphone/camera with audio sensor which in best case is also small enough to be attachable.
Do you think it could be implemented by ifttt . com/wtf ? (then I guess both the attachable microphone and SmartWatch must have internet connection)
It's more of a regular app issue for you I think. The watch + WatchIt is good enough to forward notifications (and vibrate). You just need an audio sensor app for the phone.

It works on any Android smartphone. When phone detect a sound it send a sms on other phone for example your phone wife (and if you would a smartwatch can alert when sms is received). You do not need other mic, just a phone in baby room and other with you. (so 2 phones)

Yes, but I guess a microphone would be better because it can pick up local sounds much more effective if it is attached to the babys cloth. Also when she is out with the baby carrier it would work
However, 2 phones would be definitely an alternative solution!
I know this isn't related, but after reading the questions and answers above it just goes to prove that there are some decent people around willing to help those that need it instead of flaming them or complaining that it isn't in the right thread etc.

Do you know of any app which would trigger an alarm if a sound is detected on the attached bluetooth microphone? I tried to find one, but all I read is baby phone apps which would trigger to call other phones if sound is detected.
That would be the optimal solution, please let me know if you know of any software.
I am also thinking about writing a small app myself, but I wouldn't know where to start.
I've found this one:
Mobile Alarm System Lite
and this one
Motion & Sound Alarm
that should do the trick.
Since the second one is not for free, you may want to e-mail its developer and ask if the app supports the bluetooth headset =)
As an alternative way, you could try and teach your son to say "ok google"

I think there are no difference between internal or BT mic. When a BT sound system is plugged sound must be pass through BT system.
I`m not 100% sure about this, since - I suppose - you should tell the app the source to be listening to, for sound triggering
but it`s just my assumption

I didn`t know it (so far)
thanks for the hint :good:
I now bought a Sony Smart Watch 2 and use it with a Samsung Galaxy 4.
Unfortunately I could not find a satisfying solution.
The "use as audio phone system" option unfortunately does not appear for a Smartwatch.
Mobile Alarm System Lite unfortunately only vibrates on the phone, not on the connected Smartwatch.
WachIt! cannot forward this signal from Mobile Alarm System Lite.
The only solution which is working (but not a good one) is to trigger sms message to the same phone and WatchIt! converts it to a vibration notification. However, it is only a small vibration from WatchIt!, which could not wake my wife up in the night. And of course we would have to pay for each sms (we dont have unlimited).
I am close to sending the watch back :crying:
Do you have any other ideas??

All thing send in notification system can be notified. Try to find setup on the app.
Otherwise try other app than Watchit. I use it first but now I changed because watchit not notify all my app. Now I use "AllNotify".
The fact is that all the sound detecting apps don't use notifications at all.
I'm trying to find a way with Tasker, using these apps' sound detectors to trigger some actions and creating a series of notifications on the smartwatch (activating the watch's alarm would be perfect, since it vibrates a lot).

Did you find any solution yet? Baby is coming tomorrow, so its high time
I should have posted my app in here a long time ago. But I guess it is never too late to post it and hope for some good feedback on how to improve the app even further.
What does SleepTimer do:
It simply gives you a way of stopping your music after x minutes. Set it, and listen to music (or a video) in the evening without having to worry about the music running at 3am and waking you up from your sleep. SleepTimer lets you even do more like turning off wifi and/or mobile data after it turned off the music so you do not get interrupted by those annoying WhatsApp messages .
Scenarios
1. Turning off music after falling asleep
2. Turning off remote music like iTunes Remote, YouTube over ChromeCast, ... (needs some configuration)
3. Like fall asleep while talking with your love but hate high phone bills? Let SleepTimer stop the phone call (needs some configuration)
For most use cases SleepTimer just works. Open it up, set time, start. Done. And it even looks nice (at least I think so).
Only like 6% of the apps need some additional configuration to make them work.
More details (only for those who want to know/read more)
The app uses many different techniques to turn off the music. Audio controls, audio foreground, and even notifications since the newest version. Sadly there are some really bad music players out there that do not support any way of stopping their music except for opening the app and using the stop button in there. In such cases there is only the way of lowering the volume (which I hate ). I hope those developers get to work and implement a proper Music Player. Luckily most apps work though.
About notifications (new since October 2014)
This I am actually pretty proud about and took me a while to implement. And it gives us two new features.
1. Stop music using the notification
So if they have a pause/stop/close control in the notifcation, one can add a custom action in settings, select the app and click on the button in the notification that stops the music. SleepTimer will then use that button in the notification to stop the music. That allows more ways to stop an app and allows to stop apps like iTunes Remote, YouTube with ChromeCast, ...
2. Wait until the end of a track
If enabled, SleepTimer will not turn off the music immediately but wait until the track ends. This is done using the text content of the notification. As soon as the text in a notification changes SleepTimer knows that the track is changing and it will send a stop request immediately. (As well it ignores numbers like 3:12 which is obviously not track information but time information)
Shake extend
If enabled, you can extend the timer by shaking your phone. So you can set some quiet chime to run one minute before the timer runs out. If you can still hear it then just shake to phone to extend the timer.
Root
One can enable root in advanced settings to have even more options when the timer ends. For example turning off the phone or turning on airplane mode.
I hope you do like the app. If not, let me know why. If you have any recommendations or questions, please just ask. As well any ideas how to improve the app further are welcome.
Cheers,
Patrick

It supports a lot of music and video players. Basically all of them that support the events of Android that good Audio Player apps should support according to Google Many players I tested (Stock, Google Play Music, TuneIn, Spotify, YouTube, ...) worked. And even if they don't work by default, try out adding a custom action in settings in on sleep actions.

Yes it is. But only if you have a rooted phone. If you do, then enable root in the advanced settings and then go into the On Sleep Actions settings where you will find the turn off phone option .
I think it would be great idea to add some notification with countdown(few seconds), before phone shutting down.
This is a really neat app! All the other sleep timers I tried didn't feature root options like airplane mode etc. Thanks a lot!
Just a little request: Could you add a screen off option as well? I mean sure, the device will turn off the display afterwards by itself, but I thought it might be useful.
Continuous sleep mode
Hi
I would like to know if the app can be configured so that if I fall asleep with earphones on and wake up and press the play/stop button on the earphones, theaudio I was listening to continues, but is automatically in sleep countdown mode without having to start Sleep Timer again.
This is the way the sleep mode in Smart Audiobooks works and it is very nice.
Thanks.
Work in complete silence and eliminate the ram/cpu noises that come out of the Tab Pro speakers with this intuitive app.
Hi all! A lot of people are annoyed by the noises that come out of the Tab Pro speakers. Me included, that's why I made an app for that.
!!! When active it mutes all system sounds, including notifications and incoming calls !!!
It's a service that forces audio to the headphones when you put the volume to zero. When the audio is forced to the headphone it is shutting down the speaker amplifier circuit and thus eliminates noises. If you want to have audio again, simply raise the volume with the hardware buttons.
Features:
No CPU/RAM noises! Low memory footprint, event based only. Wakelocks free, save your battery!
Known limitations:
- Mutes all system sounds (notifications, incoming calls etc.) if enabled.
- Only hardware volume buttons are monitored (for efficiency reasons).
- Tested only on stock android 4.4.2 on Tab Pro 8.4 and Nexus 7 2012 running Lolipop 5.1 (dirty unicorns 9.8)
- No enable/disable feature (service <-> app communication probably increases memory footprint a lot)
Installation:
Install app, run once or reboot to get the service started.
Uninstall
Remove the app "NoiseKill" to inactivate and remove the service.
Permissions:
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED to start the service at boot
MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS well... It probably is to modify the audio settings right?!
To other developers:
I am still looking to allow the playback of notifications / incoming calls etc while still suppressing the speaker noises. But I didn't found a way to get this information event based (I could poll though but it would drain the battery very fast).
Please let me know what you think of it.
Awesome! Asked someone for this nearly a year ago but they said it wasn't possible. It seems to be working mostly, sometimes at random it doesn't though. I think when you are at any volume level and you press and hold your volume-down button until muted, the app won't recognize that you have muted until you press once more (when already muted). Only a minor nuisance though, since the noise coming from the speakers is infinitely worse. Thank you very much for this app!
Edit: By the way, running CM12.1 on a TabPro 8.4 here.

The app doesn't seem to be working for CM13. I believe the way the volume is controlled was changed in Marshmallow. Are you planning on updating the app?
This is a life saver for parents
o to Settings - sound and vibration - Seperate App sound (all the way at the bottom)
turn on and pick the app you want(limited to 1 app at a time)
Then choose the location (I chose Music to bluetooth)
This way I can still listen to music and be able to hand my daughter my phone so she can watch youtube
Impressive, didn't think of that as a use case. Although I don't think I'll be handing anyone my phone just yet
For example (?) : can you watch a video/broadcast mute (sport game), and listen TuneIn ( running commentary ) at the same time ?
Actually android is deeply missing basic audio mix table !
Also can you (lucky owners) tell us if :
-AKG earphone are ip68 waterproof ?
-Google Music can be uninstall/disable ?
-is embedded EQ working with any browser/video app ?
Thx for sharing...

I have a specific question/problem related to this:
Currently I have Google Play Music assigned to Bluetooth.
This is cool because in the car, I can play music - but then play a game or something at the same time.
HOWEVER.....
In order for this to actually work, you have to go to the audio connections hub thing in the notification shade.
And switch your audio output to the phone.
THEN with the audio output set to the phone - itll use the override and send the play music to bluetooth.
You seemingly have to do this every time (I even used Tasker and Autotools custom settings, trying to detect which setting gets changed and make it automatic.... but couldn't see a related changed setting in the settings lists).
A bigger problem though, amidst my messing around to try to make this work better....
I selected "turn off connections manager" option.
Now I don't get that stuff in the notification shade at all.
And I cannot find a single setting that lets me access it again!
So now I can never use separate app audio.
Can someone help me!?!?!?
I have found this feature usefull for SatNav.
I have the phone connected to car bluetooth, so ALL audio on previous phones goes to the car - so as im listening to streaming radio etc, the satnav voice from TomTom kicks in and can be quite annoying - especially as I only want the voice for traffic and speed cameras.
With this feature, I can still stream music to the car but have the audio come through the phone speaker - well done Samsung

Same, once disabled there doesn't appear to be a way to get it to reappear

Give SoundAbout a look. There isn't much it can't manage.
One of my issues with the Google ChromeCast is that when the phone is used as a source, all audio is sent over that ChromeCast connection.
You cannot divert the audio to Bluetooth for bluetooth speakers/headphones.
Does anyone know if this new Samsung feature will allow you to divert ChromeCast audio to Bluetooth?
That would be pretty darn cool if it did.
EDIT: Btw, I don't have the Samsung phone.
I was linked here from a Google Pixel thread. But I'm really interested to know the answer to my question above.

Download Sound Assistant from Samsung in the play store. When you adjust volume hit the icon and then expand the window. To the right of the app volume slider you can switch sound output.
Found the "Audio output" control! Yess!!

Thanks to the post above I was finally able to find the setting to enable the option to select the Audio output on my phone (Samsung S8+) see pictures attached. So if you've lost the option to select the audio output of you S8 follow these steps. (Not to be confused with with Separate app sound, which routes different apps to a bluetooth or phone output)
Find the Samsung Connect app
Click on the three dots to bring down the menu
Tap Settings
Tap Samsung Connect panel
Ensure this is turned on
Tap on Always show
and Finally tap on Audio output << This is the one! :good:
