Apparently, a few devs on the EVO 4G forum got the screen-off animation to work on their roms. The animation is located inside framework-res.apk/res/anim/ and then a bunch of .xml files. If any of the devs here on the x10 can port this animation onto our one our ROM's, that would be amazing. So to me, it seems to get this to work, you have to put something in the ROM's code to call on the animation files inside framework-res to work. Download below to get a closer look.
BTW do not try flashing this as it will cause unlimited boot loops.

I have this in the 2.3.2 rom for x10 which is currently at 0013 in the android development thread.

There are a lot out there for other phones, but not one for the Evo, I was really wanting to make a custom boot animation for myself, I got all the way to having all the images ready to be made into an animation.
EDIT: I should also mention that what I mean by tutorial is how to build the custom animation itself, not flash it or replace it.

You have to be good with a program like adobe after effects. A program that can render out a PNG sequence. Once you render it out, it just a matter of zipping it up with the correct file and pushing it to your phone.
I got all that down, what about like how the bootanimation.zip set up? All the animations I've looked at have a document in it that I have no idea how to set up.
LOCATIONS OF SOUNDS AND ANIMATIONS [WIP]
From what I have found, this is the best list I have...
.qmg(animations) .Wav (MP3)
Before you start make sure that you have root obviously
Using root explorer and making sure that write protect off
Add .bak to the end of file to keep it from running...
You can use any Mp3 just change the file name from .mp3 to .wav on the phone
Boot sound;
/system/etc/PowerOn.wav
Boot up animation;
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
/system/bin/samsungani
Charging animations(power off);
/system/media/battery_charging_XXX.qmg
Shutdown sound;
/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg
Shutdown video (directory of .qmg);
/system/media/shutdown/
"The binary file for stock boot animations is /system/bin/samsungani as an FYI"

Thank you-Imoseyon! [EP1Q] GB Kernel W/Custom boot animation support! http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php...on-kernel-(leaked-stock-repacked-v0.22-9-4-11)
and everyone else that helped me compile this list
I hope this is a help anyone that needs to find these, and if there are changes to be made just post, and I will edit to correct.
You can delete the shutdown.qmg file and replace it with a png sequence and it will still play properly, for anyone interested.
.qmg files and limited suport for this new tech
Hello,
I have really been reading for 3 days and there is not much on this topic.
What I understand is that the .qmg files can be replaced on the Froyo versions if the Kernel supports it with png's but not GBE's. I have been successful in changing the the boot animations (only) .qmg's with .qmg's. These files are very limited in my searches and found some posted here.
http://www.nubecoder.com/files/android/SPH-D700/bootani-qmg/
png's (bootanimation.zip) will not work in the GB? Am I correct, because there is not yet a kernel to support the GBE's? Can anyone clarify or am I really messed up in my thinking.

Imoseyon has a GBE Kernel which supports Bootanimation changes.
I tried custom boot animations on GB and the system never kills the process, so the boot animation keeps going unless you manually kill it via adb. That's the only reason I didn't include it in my repacked kernel.
Imoseyon Kernel v.22
Says it supports custom boot animation check it out!
Read OP on Imoseyon's OP for instructions

Ok so I have the pbj boot ani that imnuts posted over in the fascinate area and I got a different pbj boot up sound that is 17 secs long. The boot ani works fine but it cuts off the sound early. Is that because the Gummy 2.0 imoseyon kernel boots up the phone faster than normal?

I didn't say that custom boot animations didn't work, I said it never goes away. Maybe he did something different, I don't know, but I tried 3-4 different things to get the boot animation working properly in EP1Q, and it never worked right if it wasn't the stock boot animation.
bootanimation.zip
What I have found is that this does work if the file is renamed sanim.zip and the kernel supports it. These files contain .png's not .qmg
However I have not been able to get the orginal droid charge animation to work because it is in the .qmg format. I am on the EP1W voodoo kernel.

Turn off animations / sound?
I'm a bit of an "old school" linux guy - and like seeing my device boot messages as the device loads.
Is there a way you can turn off the animations and sound, and just get the boot messages?
I wonder how can i convert .png to .qmg
or just make it works because i want to change my charging animation
Hi - newbie UOT Kitchen cook here. I tried to bake a replacement boot animation (to go along with the tiny battery icon I made when is in the themes forum), but I don't think I selected boot animation location correctly. Suggestions, please? Thanks.
The stock kernel has /system/bin/bootanimation disabled, instead using samsungani. You would need to re-pack the kernel initramfs to use bootanimation -
However, the bootanimation binary on AT&T Skyrocket does not stop the animation after the boot completes, looping forever instead. This is on my to-do list to fix.
Also, the bootanimation binary was modified by samsung - it looks in /system/media/sanim.zip rather than /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Yipes - OK, think I'll stay away from this mod then for the time being. Thanks!
Yeah, I'd really like to get rid of the Rogers animations too. The shutdown one was easy (it's in /system/media/video/shutdown/), but the startup animation is a little more challenging.
I figured I haven't seen this mentioned in this forum, so due to all the new ROMs and experiments coming for the VilleC2 I thought perhaps it'd be of some use to people. I've attached the stock boot animation for the HTC One S in case anybody is trying to get their device back to stock and has flashed their own animation without backing up.
If you're using a custom ROM such as MIUI or CM10, you can just copy the animation to the following path (make sure to rename your file to bootanimation.zip):
Code:
/system/media/bootanimation.zip
Otherwise if you're sat on a stock ROM you need to copy it to the following path (make sure to use the original file name of the download):
Code:
/system/customize/resource/hTC_bootup_one.zip
In addition, I added the shutdown animation to the post too although I think this is only really going to be needed by people on stock ROMs. The shutdown animation goes to the same file path on a stock ROM as the boot animation.
Just thought this might be helpful as I was in this situation earlier!
We appreciate the helpful post, however this thread is more suited for the themes and apps section. I have already moved it for you
good thing

thanks bro i searched for so long before i found this post i don't know where its been moved to but it dam near impossible to find !!! :good:
Hello I'm building my first rom(grapheneos & cynogenmod) from source code using ubuntu 16. I've followed few tutorials from this forum an so far its been a positive experience for me. I want to know two things:
1. How to change the boot screen animation logo, or is it even possible to do so from source while building?
2. How to change features to make cynogenmod into "secure boot or verified boot feature"?
Can anyone help me please or point me in the right direction. I've search everywhere but cant find a proper answer. they always say like do it afterwards from app or get root access and all. All I wanna know is there a proper way to do it via commands while I'm building the ROM?
the boot animation is basically a gif inside a zip file and the splash is just a png. when i was changing my boot animations on my old S3 and Evo, it was merely a matter of renaming the existing png and zip files to something else and put the ones you want in their place. I think theyre telling you to do it afterwards because the bootloader is suuuuuuper picky about the size of the png's and the images inside the zip in height/width, file size itself and the DPI. Maybe theyre less picky these days, but those were the 3 main issues building boot animations in the past. While building the ROM, do you not have to get the media from whatever mfg youre building it for anyways? I honestly have no idea, not being a smart ass at all. if thats the case, then just get the stock one and replicate those values on the files you want to use and inject them into your ROM
