I have tried both Incubus26jc's Super Froyo (RLS8) and VaniljEclair RLS7c . I manage to install them in sd card (I want to use them via haret.exe) but when I reach the welcome screen where I have to touch the android to continue, the screen does not respond ( D-pad and center button work). Could someone help me? I decided to open a new thread because of what I have searched, I found only one member with a similar (but not the same) problem
The installation method I follow is this (mostly copied from a SuperJMN's post):
1º Run HaRET
2º From the installer, select Install System
3º Choose install update (if any)
4º Choose to fix permissions (if there had been an update)
5º Reset (don't select "Quit", just reset, this is to avoid problems)
6º Wait for Windows Mobile to start and run HaRET again.
Although I am flashing to nand and you are using haret/zimage, we may have the same problem with the unified touch screen driver that DZO implemented around 16 June. Is there is a way to use the kernel .nbh and system .tar with haret, rather than zimage? If so, you might try using an older kernel from before 16 June ... or perhaps an older zimage.
I have similar problem, if not the exactly the same. Using an older kernel seems to be a workaround of this problem. hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7041656&postcount=21 (You need to fix the hxxp as appropriate as I am not allowed to link URL yet)
i have the similar problem too, havent fixed it :/
I tried zImage-12-06-10 (the last one before the 16th of June) and installation procedure did not even start. But zImage-29-04-10 worked for me. However, Froyo is not that fast. If I change any files (zImage or something else) is it possible to have a speed improvement?
Same problems.
All Android realeases work on my pola100 only with zImage 29.04.10.
No work with other kernel.
I suggest to developers to analyse 29.04.10 and try to understand WHY this works and others no.
Regards.

It would be nice if this worked for the Polaris ... how would I change the value of this parameter before flashing the kernel? Thanks!

files for a fast android version
Could someone with a fast and stable version of eclair or froyo please tell us what files did he/she used to make that happen because I installed incubus froyo build and it is a bit slow? I am talking about installing it in my sd card and run it using haret.exe
I think you need an update? Ok, here is new release bassed on release r134 and fixes from release r149 http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/source/list , all credits go to r0bin, schlund, pwel, mweber1980 and all who reported bugs, so now:
- battery full working!
- lightsensor full working
- headset working
- owerclocking enabled (just, disable perfloock and set owerclock you want!)
- bluetooth working (not tested audio routing!)
I want to say something. Diference beetwen mine release and release from google page is indentic, but have some diferences: mine release have diferent initrd, google page release use cache folder but mine release use cache partition, block size is smaler in mine release...etc (I think some sd cards previous not worked, working now), so if you not know what you are doing you will lose something like gps, 3g, ...etc becouse between mine/google release have small diferencies (but all is compiled from same sources and use same fixes), so if you want to use mine patches you need to use clean munjeni release! But if you use google release with mine patches (example: use mine initrd), you will lose something in compatibility!!! I no want to be misunderstandabled, but I think our forum need an changes (an release) becouse gone to be death forum... If you not have mine release installed, and you want to apply our update, please first delete all folders and files from previous version and install clean munjeni release, and than apply our update! If you have mine release installed, just apply update. If you have r134 release from google page, please dont use mine update! Currenltly we trying to clean other bugs but new release will be clean mix of our two version with other fixes and will be in next release!!! So enjoy with our upgrade bassed on r149 release

I forgot to say about time bug. Time bug is not presented in mine version, but is presented only if you have not checked option "prevent sleep when charging" in options/development!!! So you need to enable that option becouse when that option is not enabled and phone charging, you will get time forward if your phone go to sleep (screen go to off), so don't forget to enable it!!! Also uncheck automatic time!

I have a question. This release have the same fixes that Cyanogen release? Because i alredy installed Cyanogen release and all is great. Thanks munjeni
Thanks for this release. I downloaded the files Photon_R134__.rar & froyo_update.rar. Extracted first file, deleted folder update and then unzipped second file. Deleted everything from SD card. Booted "haret", everything seems to work fine, it's all booting .
But I have no data connection. I do not really understand what to do, I followed the link, but am a little bit lost... Sorry .
Before I used r134 from google page and data connection worked fine "out of the box".
Anybody some problem? What can I do to get 3G / data to work?

Bugs
Bug report:
- backside of mobile is getting hot, I will check when mobile is inactive
- data connection only with update possible (look former post)
- watch is running fast, check over this night during loading
Andy
Is hot because you tried camera shoot and not restarted phone?
Time forwarding because you charging your phone with screen off?
Time forwarding becouse your phone conected to usb with screen off?
Do not use cammera and youtube app becouse need to be fixed!
test
Don`t know if I have installed everything correctly..
But, data works, wi-fi works..
Heating effect present although not as dramatic as before.
Sync data is not saved..
Charging is still difficult, because suddenly the phone thinks that battery is 100% full. And its not.
Testing on the battery life...
Works much faster for some reason )
Excellent work.
First off, big thanks to Faux123. This is based on his repo with a few tweaks of my own. I'll be adding more as we go on. And of course, he's welcome to pull any patches he likes from my github.
Changes:
Added zram compressed swap support. I'll attach a script to turn it on and one to see what its status is. It's not like the older ramzswap that requires a special tool, everything is done through sysfs now. Very nice.
Added zcache compressed cache. This is a bigger win IMO, it compresses any compressible data in the cache. This means you can keep much more data in cache, which means you have to read it in from slow flash much less often.
Tweaked the low memory killer to take swap space into account, but only some of it.... This prevents swap thrashing while the system tries to kill processes and free up ram/swap. I also suggest using something like AutoKiller to set the levels to the best performance for your workload. We all run different apps and such, and that can affect how these things work for each user. There is no setup that is going to be perfect for 100% of users. Speaking of AutoKiller, I have found the advanced tweaks to help a fair bit as well. Don't use the memory management one, it overides your settings for things like swappyness. And the IO Scheduler doesn't do anything as we aren't using cfq. Unless you turn on cfq...
On Swap and compression:
While badly configured swap can slow things down, it's far more complex than people think. It also frees up RAM that's not being used frequently for apps that are. So your system can more efficiently use the resources it has. While compression does use some CPU time, our dual core 1Ghz+ CPUs can compress/decompress REALLY fast. Far faster than reading from the flash storage. In theory, this can affect battery life, though I haven't seen any significant issues from it.
Q: But we have 512M, that's a LOT!
A: Well, kind of... Not all of it is accessible to the kernel for running apps. 128M for the GPU, some for the cameras, wifi, etc... In the end, a little less than 400M is available. Then you have to add in system overhead from the kernel itself, Android's OS processes, etc.. That is quite limiting, IMO, so using it more efficiently is important to me.
Q: I don't like compression/swap.
A: Then don't run this kernel.

Yes. I've poked around, but haven't figured out why. It's certainly nothing I'm intentionally doing. I tried using the same initrd from the Weapon stock kernel, no joy. That's about the only thing the kernel should be able to change that would make a difference.

Data missing
Hey ttabbal, maybe you can help me a little bit with the issue im having with cyanogenmod based roms,
I've been trying to know a bit more bout RILs and ended up learning that it resides at the kernel. My objetive of learning about it is because no matter I do i cant have data conection on any CM7 based ROM but I DO have data on any Froyo / Gingerbread OTA rom, even tryed to change basebands, change sim card, push the apps related to the telephony from GB OTA to Cyanogen and replace Ril Libs also. Nothing had worked. And this is where you can help me a little: while using your kernel I have the exact same issue! No data whatsoever! No matter what ROM I use, in the other hand using Faux's kernel i got no issue, and bec you based yours in his work im sure you know what exactly changed between them and enlight me or make me understang what can I possibly do to fix my issue.
Thanks!
BTW I live in Guatemala CA, using a data plan from CLARO (America Movil) carrier
Look here at the Wikipedia Link to look at the baseband Im using.

I'm happy to share any information I can. Your issue is interesting as I can't think of any changes that should affect the radio. Most of the radio code isn't in the kernel. It's handled by a daemon called rild. We could try reverting some patches. The first thing to try would be to test all the older versions of the kernel. I'll get links posted for you when I get to a computer. If one of those work, we can look at the differences between them to try and narrow it down.

I'm not so sure the kernel is going to affect your issue much. As ttabbal said it lies in the RILD binary. CM7/Miui has known issues with no data connectivity though it seems to happen pretty random. Have you tried doing a hard reboot? (hold power + vol up approximately 10 seconds) On occasion I have the same issue with no data signal (though cell is just fine). Usually a hard reboot (or two) solves the problem though.

Yup, its someting else, i even managed to solve the APN dissapearing issue in other way: install market enabler, change SIM code to anything and ther revert back to defualt an it will show u again your APNs just like if you hard rebooted.
I even tried copying rild (/system/bin) from OTA GB rom to a CM7 rom and flash, and nothing, and why using your rom and faux's kernel i got data and if using ttabbal's one i have none? has to do something with the kernel! but thanks for ur posts anyways I know ur busy guys

Your description sounds like the known cm7 apn bug to me. Installing a kernel usually triggers the bug for me as it involves soft reboots. With dragon, do the data workarounds work? Exactly what ROM are you running?
I think im not leaving things clear, my above post was what I did to fix apn dissapearing when i flashed cm7... and even if i hard rebooted (or used the market enabler trick) and apns where restored still couldnt get data to work...
Im usign whitehawk's rom now, but if i pair it with your kernel, the issue i have is not that apn dissapear (like they did in cm7, bec of the known issue) but that I cant get data to connect.

OK, just making sure. Here are the older versions of the kernel. Try them out and see if any resolve the data issue you are seeing.
1.1: http://goo.gl/e913p
1.0.3: http://goo.gl/7QY0a
1.0.2: http://goo.gl/O6PDb
1.0.1: http://goo.gl/OWkG8
1.0: http://goo.gl/gLeFz
I honestly don't expect them to, but if the only change is the kernel, it seems like it could be related. Could you also attach a file with logs when it's trying to connect? Perhaps also with a log when booting from Faux's kernel when it works right?
adb logcat > log.txt
adb logcat -b radio > radio.txt
I might be able to see something in there...
Just to make sure we're on the same page, by Whitehawkx's rom you mean Weapon 2.4? I just noticed your sig says 2.3... I don't see sigs when I'm on my phone, so I missed that before. Have you tried updating to 2.4? It might help... it might not...

Been running the kernel for about a day, both scripts running with script manager, no freezes or issues yet. Been trying to cause problems like I've had with other kernels, and i'm not getting them.
i've tried searching for my current problem but doesn't seem to get a good match. (damn this site is BIG.)

here's my problem:
i've been trying to install this new rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854 to my galaxy SII.
after installing i have this problem of not being able to switch on my wi-fi.
also there's a problem with storage.
if i go to settings > storage (under device). a pop up appear saying "unfortunately, Settings has stopped". then there's options 'Report' and 'OK'.
i restarted everything again, reinstalled everything again and came up with the same problem

here's my problem:
i've been trying to install this new rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854 to my galaxy SII.
after installing i have this problem of not being able to switch on my wi-fi.
also there's a problem with storage.
if i go to settings > storage (under device). a pop up appear saying "unfortunately, Settings has stopped". then there's options 'Report' and 'OK'.

about wifi : maybe that rom uses a recompiled kernel If you don't know I can tell you about : this is a well-known problem in linux and android kernel when recompiling kernel wifi module can not work the solutions is to compile it separately (...)
I'm not sure but if this is about that rom you only have a chance to try another rom
about storage error: it make me think that : that rom surely has some errors ... try another rom
also is not my intention to blame anybody I just tell you about my experience in fact is very hard to prepare a custom ROM !
You are supposed to fix permissions after a flash. Also, why are you wiping battery stats? That doesn't do anything.

at which point did i miss that step..? im sorry its kinda confusing for me haha. im wondering if its the rom itself
batterystats.bin (search for this file by Root Explorer i.e.) is used to compute battery usage in UI settings in "Battery Use" if you reset it that's for more accurate calculation of battery usage indeed it can not solve your problem but can be useful ...
if you fix permissions maybe will solve 2nd problem but not sure about 1st problem if so pls post here it's something interesting but for me was never a solution to wifi problem- I have had to compile wifi module separately in order to get a working wifi
if this solves your problem credits go to lowandbehold
only that I can't wait out of curiosity ...post here if it solves your problem !
(from CWM menu or read this )

In your steps you said that you fixed permissions and then installed the zip. You have to install zip and then fix permissions.

Just looked at the OP...there are extended steps to installing the ROM for the first time...

well,
there is a tool named modinfo in Linux useful to get info about .ko modules it simply display version magic this is in fact kernel version that this module was compiled for it means if you have i.e. kernel ver. 2.6.32.9 and version magic for module is 2.6.35.7 it means wireless is not working because that module wasn't compiled for that kernel it's about rights and symbols not exported by kernel so module can't load -and other technical explanations but we can't enter more details here because it's possible to get criticism from Torvalds but who cares about
In fact I never knew that but now it's easy to understand what happened : flashed that rom then changed kernel now wifi will not load ...because it was compiled for another kernel...something like that !

oo thx for the info! i think im getting the hang of this. i think there's a thread explainin the various stuffs in a hp like what's odin, what's a kernel, what's a rom n how it all works together. been finding that thread again.. haha. any chance u know..?
Hey guys.
Due to the thread closing by OP's instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422404, I've decided to continue the discussion on this thread as everyone else who was getting help on there (including myself) now can't because of that.
The idea is to help each other as the original thread's intentions were, regardless of our expertise and knowledge, because it is well-known that every small contribution can be helpful for a device or another, with enough knowledge
Just like the original thread, post your problems and solutions related to the MT6577 chipset, including porting from MT6589/MT6573/etc. devices. Politely and nicely, please.
I will start with a question I've had for a few days: Does anyone know what are the binaries and files which control the battery metering/values? In my port, I'm having a problem where a reboot takes around 20% battery, and even if the phone is with 1% remaining, it can last as much as if it has 20% remaining or something. Mine is a port of the Lenovo 4.2.2 ROM.
Any ideas?
As an note i closed it due to spamm.
(and The thread was cleaned at least 2 times)
For an base port, the info is all there.
Also The tools for port i.e.: to patch kernel ramdisk, its here on xda, an simple search will point you to that. Or you can simple use The Kitchen to extract your zlimage and replace the one in my boot.IMG as my ramdisk is already patched for 4.2.2 , and thats The one i used to patch everyones boot.img when someone requested me.
Also theres already an 2nd thread about MT6577 porting to 4.2.2
And there are fixs that are device dependent, people must understand that, and it will require work and debugging from their side!
As i said this is for advance users only, if people cant work with something simple as ADB, they shouldnt try this port.
Regarding your question, thats an known old Android bug.
The battery Stats frozing. Usually wiping cache and Dalvik fixs it for some time.
And after an ROM change you should always recalibrate your battery.
B.regards

Hey man
Oh, thanks for answering on here, that was quick hehe thanks for the extra info!, I'll be sure to add it to the OP in a bit .
By the way, where is that 2nd thread? I know there is one about a tool by yuweng but it was more generic (for MT65xx and any version porting), is that the one you're refeering to?
Alright, well, I've never suffered from the battery bug until I started experimenting with this Lenovo ROM so something tells me there must be something different to it. I've used your ROMs (both 4.1 and 4.2) and never had that issue, so I'm suspecting it must be something with the ROM itself. Do you happen to know which files or binaries hold some code for the battery? I want to experiment, but with so much files around (i2c, bmt, etc) it's hard to get a starting point
About the battery stats, where are those stats located? My TWRP 2.5.0.0 doesn't have any "wipe battery stats" function and some battery stats apps I've tested can't find the stats file. Did they move it in JB 4.2 or something?
Again, thanks a lot for your advice
Thats normal, twrp and The latest CWM ( you can also try The latest up to date cwm for our ZTE, The carliv touch) that i ported, it also doesnt have that option, it was removed from The cwm source, since thats actually useless. The only thing it does is deleting one file located at /data/system/batterystats.bin this file is used ONLY for The Android battery statistics, nothing else.
If you are experience that bug more times on another ROM (port) its an indicator that some files on The ROM, are not indicated for your phone (usually its The /system/bin) files. just replaced those with your stock ones.
The thread i mention, its not that one, i will post it here later, im on The phone, so i cant use The search...
B.regards
