anyone have an issue where the default ringer keeps changing to random playlist music - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i've just started having this issue after the latest update. basically, the phone randomly changes the default ringer to random music files. i have currently set up a custom ringtone on the phone. it's basically a matrix ringer sound. anyway, as of the latest update, it keeps changing to randomly to songs of my internal memory.
also, another issue that i noticed, every time i open the gallery it seems to reload all the files. however, even after it's done, some of the latest pictures don't show up until i reboot the phone. is anyone else having similar issues.

[Q] Issues with music sync - Zune

I've noticed that if I sync a lot of music to my phone at once, a lot of problems occur. First of all, I notice that a lot of the music that I chose to sync simply does not make it to the phone. Only a few songs from a particular album might make it, whereas the rest is simply not there. Another thing is that a lot of songs get cut off. It will be playing and then end suddenly and go to the next song. It's not that it skips, but something happened where the song length has been shortened, like not all of the file was transferred.

[Q]uestion about G2x MIUI roms and MP3 ringtones

So I've used Whitehawkx's G2x MIUI builds for around 5 months, and never had this issue before, but after flashing a SINGH MIUI I've had the same MP3 ringtone issue that I've seen pop up in other MIUI ROM threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20850981&postcount=434
For the first time, when I select any MP3 ringtone, it keeps the specified MP3 listed as the ringer on the settings screen, but it won't play the MP3 when a call comes in; it'll play the last default (MIUI-included) ringtone that was selected.
Notification and alerts work fine as MP3's. It's just the call ringtone that won't play correctly. I've tried with MP3's at various paths on SD card (media/audio/ringtones included) and always with the same result.
Again, these MP3's had no issues in the same spot with the same permissions on the same SD card when running WHX MIUI a few days ago. I wiped/formatted system, data, cache and dalvik prior to flashing the SINGH-UI version, but this issue seems to be sporadic across different MIUI roms.
MIUI users - anyone else have this issue on any ROM that can offer a clue as to how to remedy it? I've tried moving the file, using different MP3s, and a bunch of reboots, but it seems like a persistent behavior, though not limited to SINGH as per the link above.
Thanks.
I had this problem at first. Select your ringtone from the Themes app and not from the settings menu. This is what worked for me...
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Confirmed: this works/solves the problem. Thanks for the speedy tip - I'm sure this will help a bunch of other folks too. Curious how this affected certain MIUI roms but not others. I wonder if this is a theme-related bug (custom them in my case) somehow?
To sum up: setting ringtone at the Theme level works; setting via system prefs misfires.
Okay, next riddle. There's a similar bug with the notification tone - you can set it in the system prefs, but it won't actually use the MP3 you specify. Unlike the SMS notification and caller ringtone, there's no place in the themes customization menu to override this.
Anyone work around this?

[Q] No unlock or keyboard sounds after muting phone

Last night after muting my phone before going to bed I noticed the lock/unlock sounds don't work and the keyboard sounds are also gone. I've tried remuting the phone, checking all the volume levels, making sure the boxes are checked for the sounds to play. I've gone as far as reflashing my current ROM (CM9 nightly) and still nothing. Anyone have any other ideas? Email, text, phone and reminder sounds work fine.
My phone is a NS4G on sprint running the newest CM9 nightly. I've muted my phone before going to bed every night and this is the first time I've had an issue with these sounds not playing.
EDIT: I found the solution for myself. Download audio manager and see your system volume, mine was set to 0 for whatever reason. There is no native system volume setting but other apps can change it so it's good to have the audio manger to see if any other app changes that setting.

System/Music volume is stuffed in ICS stock ROM

Hi all,
Recently updated to official ICS. I like to listen to music on my HTC, and I found a major glitch. Whenever you are playing music (with the stock player), and there is another system sound (ie SMS notification), the entire media volume of the phone dies.
For example, I am listening to music and I receive a SMS. I hear the SMS and the music stops playing. I check the music app and the slider is still moving but there is no sound. After that point there is NO media volume at all! I start a game. No sound. I start a video. No sound. Youtube. No sound. Only way to fix this is restart the phone.
If I'm listening to music and I wanna play a game. I start the game and the game has its own sound. The music stops playing and the game sounds are also now gone. Only way to get any sound back is to restart.
Basically whats happening is if there ANY other non-music sound, it ends up killing the phone's Media volume. Only way to fix is restart.
Anyone else have this problem?
Running stock ICS 4.0.3 Vodafone Australia ROM.
Sounds like a fluke - cause this doesn't really happen to anyone else. Since you're stock, the way to fix most issues is to wipe your data and start from scratch. Most people who have random issues like this do that and it clears up.
Not its not a fluke. I can reproduce it even after a factory reset. It only happens with stock player not another player I downloaded from Play.
Maybe its a problem with the Vodafone ROM.

If you can reproduce the issue with a factory reset then perhaps you could try flashing your RUU and see if the issue persists. I do know that what you're describing is NOT a wide spread problem, and that means it's either isolated to your device or to VODA's build...

I meant fluke as in only happening to you, not only happening once.
Try Grogg's advice. Hell, flash his rom, music player works great in it.
Similar issue here
I'd just like to say I have a similar issue with mine. If i am listening to music and receive an SMS or email notification then the music volume increases to match that of the notification. Pressing either volume up or down then changes it one step from the original volume.
I also have another issue with the default music player. If I am listening to music at work, press pause then remove the headphones (when leaving my desk for a short while) after plugging headphones back in when I press play the sound quality is often seriously distorted. Pressing pause then play again always seems to sort this out...
I've noticed 3 or 4 little bugs with the latest (UK) release on my phone, I keep expecting another update to sort them out but so far nothing...

Not playing the right notification sound

I've set my own notification sound. It usually plays when I get an email or WhatsApp message. Recently I get a short beep instead. I can see that the sound it set properly; both in settings and being picked up correctly by those apps, and my sound plays as I'm setting it so it's available to the system, but it's still playing the beep. I've had this phone a month or so and it's been fine until now. This sort of thing has happened on other phones - just one of those Android things. Usually though it can be cleared up by setting the sound again in settings, or in the apps themselves. But this time it's refusing to play ball! I rebooted my phone. I'm not prepared to factory reset it. Anything else I can try?

Is it all the custom notifications that it's not playing or 1 or 2? I recently made a sound file that wouldn't play as a mp3. I made it into a WAV file and it worked. Not sure if that will help you.

It's just one. It plays fine at the point when i'm setting it as default, but the apps choose to play some other sound. I fixed this problem by going into each app, selecting another sound, save, exit, then setting it back to the sound I wanted. But I shouldn't have to do this (and usually I don't).
