So, I'm new here, and I got kinda lost in all these threads. I've already searcehd (a lot) for a solution for my problem, but even within here I can't find it.
So, the matter is quite simple. I have a I9000B branded phone (by Claro, Brazil). And despite the not-so-recent leaking of a Vivo ROM on the web (wich I could find here, btw), apparently the operators and maybe Samsung Brazil are not caring much about updating our firmwares from 2.1 to 2.2 (and 2.3 is quite far, even for a fream around here). As I've heard/read, Vivo phones and unbranded ones are already receiving this update via Kies. The thing is:
1) Kies says I have the latest firmware available.
2) I downloaded the Vivo ROM (the hardware is the same form mine), and triee to install it via Clockwork ROM Manager, without success.
3) I tried to flash via ODIN, but when I get my phone on download mode the yellow working robot sign appears OK, but the phone doesn't get recognized by my PC. When it's on and in mass storage or kies mode, it works fine (for the intended purposes of the modes).
So, I'm kinda running out of ideas here on how to get the friggin update running.
Just for reference, I could find these 3 (and only) ROMs for the I9000B. Are they like... almost the same thing?

Thank you all!
So, answering:
Don't be so afraid of bricking your phone. Instead os plugging the USB cable and then turning on the phone in dowload mode (3 button combo), try turning the device on and then plugging the USB.
Another thing: this ROM (and apparently the other ones too) doesn't need a .PIT file to work on ODIN. Just use the .tar and have fun!
As for the ROMs, the I9000B_JPD_JPD_JPD_JPD_VJ_ZTO is a later build and should be better. Still got no idea what's a deoxed ROM, though...
Thanks man, you're a genius! Seriously, you're the only guy who answered me! It really seems like a completely new and unorthodox approach, but it really worked!
You're welcome. Always a pleasure to help myself.

Hello i recently bought a chine cell : the star a2000
i was wondering if there was a way to update android ... i'm currently in version 2.2.1, help me please
I need one too please. Any way to get a DUAL Sim ROM with Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Star A2000?
I recently bought the Star A2000 too, its a great phone but the only drawback is the lack of english support. Would be great if anyone here could provide some help (yes I'm a noob) for upgrading this thing to gingerbread.
Keep an eye out for a post I will be making shortly I hope to cover everything from rooting the phone, to installing recovery and roms to repackaging roms and restoring the imei after factory reset very shortly.
Helo! Me too bought this nice phone about month ago. By now aplied a custom flash from forum . china-iphone .ru /viewtopic . php?f=31&t=13988 forum. Now it works quite faster then on stock flash (befor I had rooted my phone and changed recovery to modified clockworkmod (also in that Russian forum) - very powerful and stabile.
Now I'm wonderin' whether it possible to install android 2.3 to my phone or not. I believe it is? but at the moment have not a clue where to start.
Hi Guys - please check out my post on these phones here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18046607#post18046607
As far as I am aware there is no Roms made that will install 2.3 yet for these phones - however there is come good news too!
I have seen these phones A1000/A2000 on the internet with 2.3 already installed - what we need is someone with one of these phones to create a nandroid back up for us.
I am currently working on porting a cynagenmod android 2.3 ROM to the phone but I am still a long way off as I have come from a PC background... but have managed to customize a few ROMs already to suit my own phone.
Porting a ROM is a big jump though so it is going to take a lot of reading and likely trial and error but I do believe it is possible.
I would love to hear some tips comments or advice from any developers. I do not see why it can not be done if there are models coming with it standard - but I can not be sure.
Great! You're giving me a hope about 2.3. I believe it's portable on our device because architecture requirements musn't change dramaticly since 2.2. Actually I'm from Russia and know 4pda forum, but on chine-iphone (I gave link in previous post, just erase 6 spaces) there are more informations about particular device flashing. If something unclear feal free to help in translation from Russian.

hi my friend, i have an oficial usb to com cable for the a2000, i've buyed this cable because when i was flashing it using the sp-flahstool, the software jumped at an error, thus interrupting the flashing procedure, now the phone does not even power on, there is no ligths, no reaction to any action from the phone, like if the phone has no battery plugged in or whatsoever... the battery is ok, i have other exact same phone, so all the batteries are fully charged, but it is still dead...
thing is, my computer recognizes the cable as a prolific usb to com cable, i have the latest prolific drivers so there all good with it... but when i try to flash the device gives an error that it can not get to the brom chip, and suggest me to connect the phone, im taking the same steps for flashing with this cable that when i flash it with regular cable, following the tutorial on bm-smartphone-reviews, but no joy... i even tried to fash my working phone with the usb-to-com cable, but the same results... am i doing somethig wrong? im skipping a required step?

Hello my Friend.. So when will it be possible for you to make a nan-droid backup image of your 2.3.6 Gingerbread ROM for the least of us others to utilize? It has been a long wait for people like me who own the A2000. This would help greatly  waiting in anticipation for your post
Hello,
Totally new to this Forum, and to the idea of rooting/unlocking phones at home. Hopefully someone can help or provide guidance. I'm sorry, I'm sure this answer comes up somewhere on here, but I have not searched.
Here is my predicament.
I got a new phone, and was going to try to root/unlock my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant i9000M) for my GF's daughter.
So...I downloaded Odin 1.3 and ran the instructions as I found them on another site. They supplied the link to a *.tar file that would root the phone. After I ran that, the phone would power on...but not pass the Splash screen. When it boots the i9000M turns to i9000 and the lights on the front of the phone flash..and it stays on that screen.
I downloaded a different version of Odin (1.85), a new tar (CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1) and pit (s1_odin_20100512) files. I've run all of those...and now the phone will not power at all. If I run into Download mode...it works.
Thoughts?
Is this phone able to be saved...or should I just take it with me to hockey tonight and practice shooting with it.
I got it all to work...after much reading and searching, I found the original Stock ROMS to bring me back to factory, then properly flashed and unlocked, got the SIM to work and even figured out how to set up the APN for internet access via the phone service....initially I only had it working on wifi.
A new question. Is an unlocked i900M (Bell) the same as any other i9000? I want to upgrade her past Froyo 2.2, because her app/game selection is rather limited. Everything I am finding references i9000...and doesn't say with it is a Gingerbread upgrade for a stock phone, or unlocked phone.
I apologize if these are noob questions, but I've never done this before.
Any help.guidance would be appreciated.
Matt
Good morning everyone.
First of all I want to apologize for my english, that I'm afraid it's very poor.
My question goes next: I bought an used Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7'' p3100 3G and it has a very big problem. It can't be connected to any pc, windows or mac. It's not a drivers' problem, so when the device is connected, the pc does nothing. Not even a display in the device manager, or a noise. However, it usually charges. I say usually because sometimes the icon battery shows a red ray, but it charges spending more time. That's all. It has been proved with three different original cables in several computers running different SO.
I don't know if it's a connector problem or it's a Rom one. It has an operator locked SO with Android 4.0.4 that not even shows the OTA update option in the menu. And I cannot select the way I want to be connected by usb in the "Storage" options.
The fact is I cannot update the device and I cannot root it in order to install a better rom or an original stock one.
I've googled all I can do to find a way for rooting the device, but all the roads drive me to the same point: Odin. The software I cannot use because my device can't be connected to any Pc.
I know this forum is my last chance. There are some ways like z4root or framaroot that work in another devices (Galaxy S for example, I think), but they have not been ported to my device. I think my chances are to make it by an apk o perhaps flashing a signed file from the original recovery.
I just need to install a simple clockword mod or having the device temporary rooted to install and run the Odin's apk that allows me to install a pre-rooted rom, an open recovery... Just a simple step for one man, But the Colorado's Canyon for me in my situation.
If someone of you know any solution or want to help me, I'll be truly grateful. And I didn't even mind to pay him for his help.
Thank you very much in advance.

Have you manually installed the drivers? If not, download the samsung drivers, install and try again. Read through the link below to find the drivers.

Unfortunately yes. I've tried with several versions of Kies, by installing manually the drivers and it doesn't work. The fact is I connect the device and the pc does nothing. Not even the device manager shows a new device or is alterated in some way. It's like one data pin in the connector was damaged or the rom was corrupted and it doesn't let the device be recognized.
I think my only chance is to make everything inside the device. By sd in the boot manager or with an apk. If not, I'm condemned to an obsolete device that could not even be updated.
Thanks for trying to help me.

This may sound absurd, but try a different version of the drivers. I had to install like a dozen drivers before it worked

I agree. The drivers can be so touchy. I'd uninstall and reinstall drivers numerous times before giving up. Good luck!
Sent from my GT-p511x
your cable is faulty. Get another one on ebay cheap.
I'm afraid I've tried with three different cables, as I said (one of them original from Samsung and new), two Windows Pc's, one mac and about fifteen different drivers.
Believe me: I've rooted with no problem more than twenty different devices (and jailbreaked another ones ) and this is the first time I cannot make it.
Think it's a hardware problem or a corrupted rom one. In both cases I have to root it by an apk or a flash from the sd.
Anyway, I appreciate very much your help, boys.

I'm in a similar situation with a Galaxy Tab 2 p3113tsyxar
It is not recognized by any computer, and my next step is to try another cord manana. Until then (hopefully) I've got a nice paperweight.
You have not rooted ur tab till now......so u have not played with your firmwares! So its better to visit a samsung store. If you have warranty then they will do it in free.(And your android will also get updated!)
If I helped you, just press thanks!
I seem to be in and endless loop of hope and despair with my Samsung Galaxy S7 - can anyone shed any light on this?
Long story short, I was on Android 8 and wanted to roll back to 7 (using a ROM I took from Sammobile) because I needed a previous configuration of Google Play Music for my Smart Watch to work. I used Odin to flash the phone and it declared the procedure as FAILED. Now I can't seem to even flash it back to version 8. It is just stuck on the below three screens, no matter what I do.
At this point I would happily just upgrade it to whatever firmware will work and not have a £500 brick on my hands!
Please note the images are at h t t p s ibb.co slash the below (sorry this forum doesn't allow me to post them as links!)

OK i've seen them, don't panic.
What region / country are you
What network are you on?
p.s. YOU CANNOT DOWN GRADE OFFICIAL FIRMWARE
I'm with O2 in the UK.
I'd be happy just to get anything installed on it at this point. At least then it's useable.
Whenever I try a new flash (even with Oreo obtained from Sammobile) it just gets nowhere. The COM shows connected (I have the USB drivers installed and have ditched Kies) and I browse to the extracted AP file then click start it either goes away indefinitely not showing failed or success or (with another AP file e.g. for older firmware) it just says Failed.
Thanks very much.

Ok you have to down load the firmware that was on the device from O2, so download O2 Oreo from sammobile or the unbranded BTU firmware and flash with Odin. This should give you access to the device but the google account needs to be bypassed and then wiped by following this method https://www.progeeksblog.com/frp-bypass-apk/
Ok I'll give that a go. Wow pretty detailed guide there. I've not heard of the frp bypass requirement. Another thing to get my head around. Why can't phones just be like PC's. Image them, clone and be done!
Thanks again will let you know how I get on.
Restoring to the BTU firmware posted here forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/galaxy-s7-flat-oreo-firmware-download-t3785309 worked! In my case I didn't even need to run the frp-bypass-apk. Turns out that my phone was restored to exactly as it was before I attempted to downgrade so I even have my data back.
Thanks so much for helping me out!
Brilliant. Now to save yourself a world of pain in future turn on OEM unlocking in development options.
Just a couple more questions if you don't mind?
1) What is OEM unlocking
2) Do you know of any way to "roll-back" my version of Google Play Music? I am currently running version 8.14.7427-1H and would love to return to an earlier one since it handles the Android Wear playlist differently.
Thanks!!

Well there's some settings on the phone itself which, when you mess up trying to flash etc makes life a whole lot easier to bring your phone back to life. A good explanation of OEM is here https://www.quora.com/Whats-an-OEM-unlock-in-Android
With regards to rolling back Play music yes you can almost always roll back an updated app either by uninstalling the update via settings>apps or finding an earlier version of the .apk file online by simply searching for it in google.
When downloading .apk files, to be able to install you have to enable "install from unknown sources" settings>security>unknown sources.
Hope this helps
Brilliant. Thanks I will give that a go.
I've been getting help in the Newbie thread, but it's time I start a new topic, since it's getting harder and harder to find replies.
All I'm trying to do is upgrade an old LG from Android 5.0 to 6.0. That's it.
I've got the drivers installed. I've downloaded three different versions of Flash Tool. The only one I got to do anything was "Flash Tool 2014".
The first time I ran it (following the directions on the web page where I found it), I picked "CDMA", "DIAG", and "CSE Flash". I was able to pick "Other Country" and "English" and got the phone to start installing. However, it only got as far as 4% and gave me an error. Now, when I run it, I pick "Other Country" and can't even pick a language. They're all blank. If I continue, all the messages consist of Question Marks, however, it still gets as far as 4% before stopping.
The phone is bricked in Download Mode. I have tried two different USB cables, two different computers, one of which has Windows 7 & 8.1 installed. I've tried all different USB ports to make sure I'm on USB 2.0 and not 3.0. I've tried running in Administrator Mode.
I see many posts about the 4% Error. The solution involves downloading a "wx.dll" file and putting it in the C:\system32\LGMOBILEAX\PHONE folder, but that didn't work. I also so one that said when you get the error, take the battery out of the phone, unplug it, put it all back together, and then Continue. That didn't work either.
What else can I possibly do? Thanks.
Hey, I have been trying to find a rom for 6.0 and I can't find anything. The only way to get to 6.0 is through ota. If you have 5.0 then your lucky. Ota can only be used if you still have a sim card that's active in the phone. There isn't roms for stock android 6. I would try and help but I can't.
If anyone finds away to get stock 6.0 please let me know.
Talking about your issue of your phone being bricked, there is many unbrick methods. I personally used https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...n-qualcomm-hs-usb-qdloader-9008-mode.2933853/ it helped and fixed my issue. I still had my device info wiped off my phone somehow but at least it works. Your at a issue with a flash tool, fresh reflash with that method I sent if you can use it and start over. I can guide you through it if needed.
You might be stuck at a stand still, tell me what your phone says in device manager. You probably flashed a bad firmware. In that case I used the method above.
