I have a Viewsonic G Tablet running the Vegan ROM (excellent ROM, I love it) loaded with Google Voice and Sipdroid.
I have been able to successfully initiate calls, however I'm looking for guidance to see if there is anyway to receive calls on the tablet. I have tried setting it up as a device in my Google Voice account, however since there is no phone number associated with the device itself, I'm at a loss.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sipdroid allows incoming. I had it up and running on TnTLite 4.2.1, but the sound quality was leaving much to be desired so I removed Sipdroid. In the past I have also used the old Gizmo5 + Fring + G Voice very succsfully to accomplish the same goal.

I should have added you just need to register your SIP (session initiation protocol) number with Google Voice... it's like a virtual phone number for VOIP.

This is exactly right. When you log into Google voice's website, click on "settings" and add the number you got from your SIP provider. I'm using Sipgate and have a 650 number I think. I duno. It's in Cali, anyway. I added that number, and now when you call my GV number, the tablet rings.
Which is sort of weird. I can't get any BT headset to work so far, so I just look like some form of Italian wood nymph talking on a regular phone.
You can also add the number through the GV application on the tablet, but for some reason mine wouldn't take. I probably muffed it somehow.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the "phone" dialer to use GV/GV callback and NOT Skype.
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the responses, everything I needed to know.

Hello All,
Purchased an U S Cellular HTC Touch Pro via CL,mainly for using as a gps unit while motorcycling. Now I decide I may as well try Google Voice to utilize the WM6.1 funcionality a little more. Got my NEW Google Voice number activated no probs.
Download iDialer, iContact, and Greenbutton and installed,,looks very slick!
I guess I was not looking far enough ahead,as I am not a real phone junkie,I have to admit.
I added the parameters for my GV account with the handy config.cab that you generate on the Idialer website,,which is pretty sweet in itself. BUT,,, I do not have an actual data plan,,,AKA: phone is not activated...
Problem: I have my GV number forwarded to my home phone number, and realize now that this will not work for people being able to call me on my Touch Pro phone via GV while I'm on the road.( I mistakenly set the GV number up as the TP phone number on this device)
Call me stupid. What do I need to do to be able to 'forward' my GV number to this Touch Pro phone? Is there any free DID? numbers I can get to associate to this phone so as long as I have an WIFI connection I can either make or get calls made on this phone?
I have read so many various VOIP articles on this and am more confused now than I was 5 days ago..
I am sure this has been hashed a zillion times, but I honestly could not find a step.1,,step.2,,step.3,, how to accomplish this.
Thanks in Advance.

Anyone else having issues ?
I setup Google Voice as normal, and I only use if for international numbers.
When I try and make a call, GV starts, but then Sprint kicks in and tells me I cannot make calls to this number ?
Weirdly, it's not happening in Gumbo 1.5c which was my daily use ROM.
I am trying this on RegawMOD 2.0
I haven't heard of a good solution yet.
Does anyone know if GV works properly on the N1 and the Droid? Those two phones are "officially" running 2.1 now.
Wondering if it's a problem with 2.1 across the board, or if the problem only occurs on custom roms.....
For now what I've been doing if I really need a call to go out via google voice is just initiating the call through the web page. Not the best workaround, but it gets the job done.
The only "work-around" is that I can make calls through the web (use the browser), but I can't receive calls. I do receive pushed sms.
Install GV 2.0 (search forfor link), works like a charm on every 2.x I've used.
yupp.only version working is .2.thats what im using
In Damage's new thread (based on new Sprint Leak) there is a post that says this:

Then it's on! Oh Yeah. Giggity Giggity!
Works for me on DC2r2 although I was getting the same message at first. I had never used it before so I thought I just could dial the number straight out like a regular call but it doesn't work that way. You gotta call your GV number first then there is an option to make an international call. Press that option and enter the number and you should be good.
I have my phone set for GV to make my international calls only though. Don't know if setting it for all calls would allow me to dial the international number directly and not have to call my GV number.
There seems to be a way to make calls on the Verizon tab without skype. Can we get a thread going on how exactly to configure and do this??
As far as I'm aware, there is no known way of doing this.
The issue is that even if you could stick a working dialler on the Verizon Tab, you probably won't be able to get Verizon to attach the ESN of the Tab to a plan that includes voice.
I could be wrong, but this subject crops up and time and time again and this appears to be the case.

Dave
I was chatting with a guy yesterday that said he is running google voice and sipdroid with a dialer apk and was working, I just have no way to figure out how he did the config.
Line 2
Try Line 2 App its working great for me on my Tab
Tried it but they said I sounded terrible on the tab mic. Do you need to use blue tooth on this app??
Just read the email line2 costs $10 a month.

Sorry, I assumed that since you mentioned you didn't want to use Skype, you didn't want a VOIP solution, and were after "native" calling over the Verizon network.
If you want to use SipDroid, you need to have a VOIP account with someone first.

Dave
Not completely true in order to accomplish this do the following.
1. Setup a googlevoice account get a gv phone number
2. Install sipdroid.
3. Launch sipdroid
4. At the bottom of the app you will see a button to create a new account linked to gv. Click it.
5. Fill in the information including your gv account.
Let it activate now yoh can use the sipdroid app to make calls i use a stereo headset with mic to make clear calls. But you can tweak settings in sipdroid to improve audio on speaker.
Also i use dialer one inorder to make calls using my phonebook. I just set it as tphe default dialer.
You can also configure sipdroid to work on wifi, cell network or both. Keep in mind voice rings up alot of data usage. I will create a more complete tutorial when i get some time.

I can confirm this works.
I'm in the process of doing this but sipdroid wont let me sign in? Went to the site to register made a password, but no go need a little help.

ok please forgive me a little new to this. Which one do you use sipdriod or GV?
Sent from my Arikara Galaxy Tab using Tapatalk
Create the account in app then login to pbxes site. This creates a pbxes account with your username but under that account creates a (username)-200 extention which is the sipdroid linked to gv. Which can be configured by hand but is much more difficult.
*I forgot to mention make sure once you setup your account through sipdroid, you must login and fill out your personal information or else after a pre-determined time pbxes will delet your account.

You use sipdroid google voice app only allows you to receive txt's and voicmail. Sipdroid makes the phone call or dialerone can be configured to route calls through sipdroid.

Someone wanna post a step by step so people can easily implement this useful feature.
Hey, guys I got it to work! Now just wondering which divice would work for a speaker? I have Zapp ear buds with a mic.

Dude!!! dont hold out on us, post the how too
I tried it few day ago. It said that GV acc only activate in US. I'm outside US
I use line2... easiest to setup and to me its very reliable compared to using two apps/services to talk with one another.
10bucks for unlimited text and voice with support if service happens to go down is fine by me.
As for audio issues its the mic that your using that would cause tunnel sound issues. Try a jawbone rogue. Its been reported to be a compatible bluetooth headset for our tabs.
Question though... doesn't sipdroid and gv depend on stock dialer to be present to use them? I thought that part on stock tab roms were locked?
Hello everyone,
I am using a Samsung Captivate with MIUI ROM 2.3.5(1.10.7) and really like it. Congratulations to the developers.
I have google voice installed and its configuration gives an option to make calls from GV, but when I chose 'Ask me everytime' and make a call, it would not give me the option to choose and always use AT&T and not GV. Is there anything I am missing? Have anyone else tried this and got it working?
Thanks
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
are you sure you've assigned yourself a phone number via google voice online? the default phone number google assigns you only works for outgoing browser based calls. you have to change it to unlock texting and get full calling capabilities
Thanks for your replies.
Yes, I have a google assigned number. I can use it to send and receive texts. Problem is with making voice calls.
For voice mail also, I am using the same GV number and it works. Also the calls to my GV number get forwarded to the mobile. All these works except outbound calls from my mobile made using GV. It is going out through GSM and not thru data.
Thanks again
Hi,
I just updated with the latest ROM released today. GV works as expected now.
Thanks
Anyone else seen this yet... simonics.com/gvgw
You need a Google voice number... (free)
NO im not spamming this.. i found it ON MY OWN and found it to be really useful since it works. Don't be haters... try it or not... its free and up to you.
I use this with my phone. There are places at my work where the only connection i have is WiFi... this solves the problem and i don't need stupid software to use it... just go to the site, set it up, and put the settings into your phone settings for internet calling.
Ive been using this for a few months now... and no, my Google account has not been hijacked and is a secure encrypted connection through a asterisk server and secure ports.
Read the FAQ on the site... its really simple and works.

I've been testing it out a bit, it seems to work pretty well. I plan to drop my phone plan soon actually and just use a Verizon LTE hotspot.
I want to make sure I've got a method fairly reliable in place to make calls/texts with GV, and so far I've had success with the callback method, grooveIP (though the audio still sounds a bit funky), and using simonics and csip simple.
simonics + csip seemed to be the most reliable, though I've hit a snag: It's not allowing me to register my simonics account when I'm connected to my LTE hotspot. Works fine on any other wifi though.

How does this work? Doesn't a Google Voice number have to forward to a real number and be attached to one? Do you have another number that the GV is attached to?
I don't use a single app for this.
*Setup a Google voice (free)
- set your ringback as Google chat.
*Setup a pbxes.org account (free)
- set a trunk that points to your gchat
If you're on an AOSP ROM, open dialer, go to settings, scroll to bottom, internet call settings, accounts, point to your pbxes account.
Done!
Now you have free incoming + outgoing calls over WiFi or 4G. Even 3G as well.
If you use the sipdroid app (by pbxes.org ppl) instead of the built-in AOSP SIP stack you get more audio encoding options and the ability to pass your calls thru a VPN. Pretty sweet

I'm still learning about all this, it's been pretty confusing as it's all new stuff for me. I'll try to explain what I know (or what I think I know)
Internet calls (VOIP) are typically free when connecting to another internet connection (ex. Skype, Kakao, Seed, etc). PSTN (regular phone numbers) cost money to connnect. Google Talk, which is VOIP,. lets you call a PTSN for free from your desktop. This seems pretty unique and likely will not last forever I'm guessing.
Install a softphone on your device, and you're bypassing your carrier's calling network.
Calls coming in:
Now, it's possible to setup a free VOIP account and attach a "real" number to it as a way to connect to the outside world. This service called IPkall can give you a recycled Wash. state number and let you get calls on iit for free. I attached one of these to a Callcentric VOIP account..When someone rings my google voice number, it will ring my IDKall/Callcentric number, which oh yeah doesn't cost me anything.
Calling out:
Callback method: Using apps like the Google Voice Callback, you can do the same thing as you can from your desktop, which is have Google Voice ring one of your numbers while simultaneously calling the number you want to call. Google Voice is acting like the bridge between your phone and the one you're calling. Like you said you need a "real" number to make calls like this with google voice, but if your VOIP account is attached to a "real" number then it doesn't know the difference.Typically your carrier would charge you money/minutes to call your google voice number, but since you're connecting for free with a softphone/VOIP then you're only be charged for whatever data you use.
GrooveIP/Simonics Google Voice Gateway: I really don't know how these work, but my best guess is they're just simplifying the process for you, setting up the second VOIP account automatically.
So I'm annoyed that Csip Simple/simonics isn't working for me when I connect to my verizon sch-lc11 jetpack I picked up a few days ago (the verizon guys were pretty confused when I turned down a free iphone 4s, heh). Groove IP seems to be working all right now, if that fails then I can go back to the callback method, or maybe try setting up a pbx.
Setting the phone up so that it can receive SIP calls tends to chew through battery a little quicker.
Having said that...if you want to do your own thing and have an old pc (or even Raspberry Pi) laying around, check out PBX in a Flash (sorry I can't post links, just Google it). I've been running this setup for about two years to replace my land line with a google voice number and it works great. I've expanded my setup to have a home office number as well. All free. You can also set up your cell as a SIP or IAX extension and have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
You can also purchase an obi100, and use the ObiTalk app.
