Are you syncing your contacts with Google? If so, that's what's downgrading your contact picture quality. I don't know why, but that's what was causing my problem. Once I decided to sync my contacts only with the address book on my computer, the quality issue went away.
how do you sync contacts with address book on your computer?

Low resolution contact pictures when syncing with Facebook. This especially occurs when using a stock or cyanogen mod build. HTC sense builds have good res pics when syncing...
Any possible fix? Its bugging me and seems like a fairly simple thing that Google should fix.

Bumping once more ! I think its the problem woth sense ... the contact pics are really low res .. how do we rectify this ?
Anyone have any ideas on how this can be solved?

Bumping too. Weird that such a major issue has no solution apparantly.
Yo where my nerds at???
This fix should be cake

+1 this is quite an annoying bug. Can't find a solution yet
Lots of discussion about this in the past.

This has to be worked out by google as the contacts are synced with google server and resolution is cutdown terribly.
Wow I just checked out that link and it looks like this will never be fixed.

How hard would it be to mod the contacts app to support higher resolutions?
I manually did mine because Facebook never seems to stop running resulting in a battery killer so I freeze/unfreeze upon usage. may take awhile based on amount of contacts but no need for contact merging,no more low res photos and no more battery killing due to Fbook
I bought fbPhotoSync from the Market and used it to download high resolution photos for all of my contacts. Worked like a charm.

I've searched and found no results for this so I appologize if it's been mentioned. When I open the "people" there is a "video call" tab. Is it possible to use this feature?

I don't know of anyone that has been able to use it.. you probably need someone with a sensation or Thunderbolt in your contacts

I have people with thunderbolts in my contacts who also have that video call option, but nothing comes up.

Gingerbread is going to have Skype video calling built in. It should start arriving on the 30th.

alot of people actually believe that to be a fake "leak"
Now what about Google talk video chat? I have it, and it shows a camera next to my name, but doesn't show my fiance's as having video capabilities when I look at her name on my list. We both are running the same ROM and when looking at her list she has a camera next to her name but not mine. We both have it checked to allow video chat in the preferences.

i think it only works on some roms. I see the same thing when testing a chat from pc to phone and the pc will initially see the video but once initiated it will say the device isnt currently supported
I don't want to run an app for this. Was just wondering if any roms had it built in.
Seems like every time you want to show somebody ONE picture they go scrolling through them all.

There is no native gallery lock. What you could do though is create a folder where you put pics you want to share and before showing somebody hide all but that album. But really, what kind of pictures are you taking with your phone.... (just kidding, don't answer that )

Is there any way to forcefully sync contact images?
Some of my contacts have put/updated their contact images but they are not being synced...
Also, they are coming in low quality even though I'm using JB...

Known "issue". Although JB supports high resolution contact pictures it syncs small ones. I personally use HaxSync to sync my contacts with their Facebook accounts to get high quality pictures. Not sure if there's a free/better way.
Use Facebook Contact Sync. Free in the Play Store.
I forgot to mention that I do not use Facebook.
The only contact images I have are the images set by the users.
Any other app or workaround you can think of?

Google just started to let JB users to sync 700x700 contact pics compared to the privious 90x90. I saw a post about this a couple days ago, just not sure where. I verify that higher quality pics now sync.

I could be wrong. But I'm pretty sure if you have Google sync enabled on your phone the high quality pics and any other contact info changed should sync. If it doesn't sync automatically, go into settings and sync contact.

Is there a way to make the Caller ID photos not blurry other then using HD Full Screen Caller ID app? I use Ubersync for facebook to update my contacts photos and information in my contacts but they all come out blurry.
I use haxsync which is pretty good and takes HD pictures from Facebook. There's also sync me but I haven't tried it.

Does it sync with hd pic? 'cause the last time I checked, the result was not as good as haxsync.

There is only one "small" problem... It's not possible to find haxsync on Play....

The pics are super sharp and it also adds some cool features to call screen if you choose to use them. I just discovered this app a couple days ago when I realized that haxsync wasn't updated to work with kitkat.
I use UberSync for Facebook. I didn't know about sync.me until now and I can't compare them, but UberSync does its work pretty well.

Sync.me doesn't incorporate with contacts app, it's a standalone app, so I think haxsync it's a one-way solution, if ubersync doesn't sync with hd pics. Haxsync works with KitKat.

I used to use sync.me but personally I find haxsync much better. Also it syncs much more like calendars, status updates and the pictures seem better.

Am I the only one here that would have a contact list full of either random people, or dogs, or famous people if they sync'd their facebook friends profile pictures?
lol
I have manually added contact images since i went Nexus simply because i got sick of not seeing the actual person that was calling me....I'm a little OCD about stuff like that...so i manually went in and plucked High res images from Facebook for each contact, uploaded them, and they get sync'd across in nice crisp images now. I rarely add new contacts, but when i do, I just do it manually. it kinda sucks, but its the only way i can get an accurate picture that is the same every time that person calls me.
What about non Facebook people? I don't use Facebook for anything but I would still like HD pictures. Any ideas?

HaxSync
I've unpublished HaxSync from Google Play for now until this gets resolved.

Seriously? We have to use a 3rd party for this??? What a pain. Had this with S3 and now S4. I find it hard to believe (call me naive) but why can't Samsung or Google, or Android or whoever simply make this little item work. All my FB synced contacts the photo is blurry.
