Wondering whether I am the only one with this issue
I SMS a lot and like keeping the SMS on my device. I had recently an extremely unpleasant surprise: my total list of conversations was back to... ONE conversation with my last SMS and... That's it!!! Thousands of SMS gone
I happen to save everything with mIQ and hopefully it's not lost. However I had the experience already twice in the past 2 weeks so I am wondering:
Is this a feature from Android? Big SMS file --> autoarchive? If then how do I disable it or how do I recover my SMS?
Is it a bug? In which case this is extremely severe and not serious for such an expensive device or for an OS that is expected to be a safe one
Is it from Samsung implementation? Or Android itself?
Please share your experience, I'd like to know if I am the only one and if there is any solution (My "old" Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 never lost a single SMS although having more than 30,000 SMS in the box)

Am I the only one? Several years without any loss os SMS on different WM devices and I wiuld be the only one losing them on my shiny new device with the wonderful android OS?

Ive never let my SMS get to more than 500, mainly because I don't like scrolling through congressional. Never had this issue though.

you really shouldnt keep that many sms around anyhow with android, its likely to cause some issues but did you check the settings on the sms app? mine has settings to delete threads after a certain number and is set to 200 by default.
I use a program called Backup to Gmail. Works excellent.
It let's me delete sms'es on the phone while my Gmail account keeps them all even if I delete them on the phone.
It can also restore sms'es.MMS restore is not supported yet but backup works good.

Yes of course... Besides If I had it set at 200 I would expect to keep at leats 200, not 1
I shouldn't let many with Android ? So with WM6.5 it's ok to have 20,000 SMS but Android cannot handle them ? Hum... Somethng is seriously wrong

Thanks, I know a few of these. Without being able to restore --> kind of useless for me... Actually as far as I remember some CAN restore
I am already using mIQ that works ok (though a bit slow to handle too many SMS)
why would you even want that many, its not like you are going to read through 20k sms
It's funny like the answers are more about having less SMS or why wanting that many rather than why the SMS client or the OS Re broken...
Hey man why do u need a car, just take your bicycle!
I have more than a thousand conta ts I converse regularly with. Then add a certain number of sms per conversation and u get there
Anyway I do not even have that many on my Tab... Far less than on my previous device. And this disappointing device/os/client combination cannot even manage them... What do you expe t me to do or say? Go back to my TP2? Honestly this is ridiculous
meanwhile I'd like to know if I am the only one and if someone knows some fises (other than delet my SMS or but an iPad...)

give handcent a try and use their backup service, ive never had a problem with the stock sms app, currently theres around 300txts for 20 contacts, and 50 or so for the rest.
No problem here as I don't keep a lots of sms. But had a problem with new sms going into the wrong contact profile. So, have to be extra careful not to reply to the wrong person.
Anyone faces the same problem?

Deleting would help more than the purchase of an iPad, as that uses the 3g chip to get a data connection, while both the texting and voice service are ignored.
That said... I never got this issue, but my brother has a relatively similar one: long messages tend to be split, mixed and (why not, since we are at it) partly deleted. That is on Eclair using an Xperia X10 mini pro.
Never had this kind of issue when i was at my peak of sms usage: store on the MMC, and there you go, thousands of sms on a puny Nokia 3650.

Hello there,
First of all, this phone is A M A Z I N G especially comin from a Galaxy S2 LTE. But I have this thing bugging me where when texting a contact that I registered his Home & mobile phone, in front of every text he sends me, it writes his phone number and (Mobile). This is pretty much ugly-annoying & I'ld like to know if someone knows how to disable it without having to use a 3rd party app for sms.
Merci, Thank you.

Haha yeah, it'd be nice to disable it.
I don't think we can though
I'm considering using a third party app or creating separate contacts...
Hello,
Me and my gf used to chat a lot using whatsapp (she has an iphone)..i finally persuaded her to change to android but she wants the threads as she has them on her phone..i have tried everything and since you cant restore within different platforms the only good way i thought is if we did a "replay" of what we have sent by looking from the chat history from email..bit extreme but no other way..
The only problem is that the app doesnt let us use the time we wish (from system) because maybe it uses time from the web! Or maybe we can alter the time afterwards ..Any ideas??
Thnx

Not sure if there is any easier way but Whatsapp Xtract could be the answer since it support WA message extraction, you can get it here.
If you know some programming skill you can just play with the sqlite database, another way would be write some script to mass change the time on the chat history/email.
Good luck!
By the way, you probably want to change your title to include [Q] so that people know you are asking a question.
Thnx i will look it up! i was also thinkng about whatsapp on Bluestacks but then again the mod in time is still an issue

I just have a look on the message history sent through email by Whatsapp, it's just a simple plain text file is it? so much easy to process by script.

Have you tried Whatsapp Xtract? Well if you are talking about changing the date on email then a simple php script would do by mass converting the date.
But what can i see from the message history sent to email is that they have 'year' info skipped, so not sure what happen to messages sent/rcvd before current year, does it have year info? well, only if you have one sent/rcvd before 2012.
If only about changing the date on email maybe i can help, just give me some picture on how it looks like now and how it supposed to be.

Yes I have looked into this program..it all started from me wanting to export whatsapp chat into android from iphone! Then when I saw I cant do that I thought I could send my chat from scratch and change the date..but then again the app doesnt let you operate if you use incorrect time.BUT one thing I never thought is one simple and better solution: Why dont I avoid this app and its limitations and import my chat conversation from email to SMS with sms to text!! :thumbup:I will combine my sms and my whatsapp into one thread and job done! GOOD THING ANDROID SMS IS SO VERSATILE! .txt .csv. xls you name it. So happy right now thanx for your feedback anyway

Dear Developers,
I am trying to build a system which will track all what happening in my life....
I have some Ideas and these are not sufficient. I need your help....
Can I expect help from you ...
thanks
this also tells where your objects are placed?
This will also tells the navigation and deligation details on screen short. If a cell phone is theft and it is android and you have installed this app, It would get the pic of thief and send to your mail ID frequently with 3-5 min gap duration....
