Sounds like a jig is what you need then, the $.99 jig will work

The jig will work.
This is a simple fix if your able to follow directions with the jig. Relax and breath, and go to radio shack. No need to brainstorm here...
edit: Will someone else chime in here, lol, I'm thinking he's looking for more than 1 opinion.

Not exactly a second opinion, but waiting for somebody who's been there to chime in and drop his 0.02 cents. And if nothing works, will do the inevitable

Just make a jig, it's good to have anyway.

I have purposely botched my phone for those people who have thought they have bricked their phone. There are various way to make a jig or you can buy one.
But as Thnikk said, it's good to have one anyways. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

The jig will work, I was in a situation close to yours and nothing worked till i built the jig. There is a nice step by step guide on how to do it. I suggest not cutting up your USB cable and buy the MicroUSB iGo adapter while you are at radio shack. Just search the forums or google for iGo jig.
Edit: The link in the above post is the one I was talking about.

Buy one???, From you? J/K. Heading out to radio shack. I am not totally sure abt the Igo thing but will try with just the resistors. Hope it works. Will keep you folks posted. If nothing works, get ready for a bounty thread . Not that I am rich but can't afford another phone or stay long enough with out a phone. TY

Take it to the att warranty center for sleep death and power cycle issues mention it happened during a keis sync and the'll get you a replaced phone given you havn't done any physical or water damage, it'll take 15-30 mins and get you back up before work tomorrow was in the same boat two days ago.. oh and order the jig mines due in a few days.

Nice, but if the rep turns it on.. He will come across a GalaxyS SGH-I897 logo during boot screen and not like the usual boot screens that comes up for a stock captivate. Do you think he will spot the difference??
And btw, I got this phone from Amazon. Will ATT replace it?

Alright... Jig is ready .
Damn this is tough. Shaky hands
Update: No luck. Nothing working, no d/l mode. Tried at least 20 times.

You must not want you phone to work again. Keep trying and be patient, it took me a little while when I first came up with the resistor method.
Use a desk lamp and/or a magnifying glass to see the prongs better.

No luck. Been trying this under a table lamp with magnifying glasses. Phone switched on for a couple of times and stuck on boot screen. May be 301 is what it needs. I will pick another 1k resistor and give it a try.

Well if your getting past the att world phone screen it could be a kernel issue, use a jig it'll work, if your not getting to the kernels's boot screen then take it to the "service center" not the rep that sold you the device if you cant get the jig to work, and if you got it from amazon and you purchased a two year account up/new take it to the service center att's service center supports all contract devices for one year no matter the retailer you purchased from (minus the iphone heh "droid food")so take it in if the phone dosn't get past the att world phone screen. if it dose use a jig flash to stock if your still having issues after a "Passed" stock flash take it in, and if you got to the reset part when flashing stock and failed.

Bricked after restoring stock firmware

My Captivate was apparently bricked after I tried restoring from 2.2 to 2.1 using Odin 3.
Everything went fine but instead of booting up to a 2.1 phone, it just flashes to the battery charging screen like it was off and flashes to that and a black screen back and forth.
It does the same thing unplugged except with the white AT&T World Phone screen.
I have tried everything I've seen to put it into download or recovery mode but none have worked... HELP please! I need my phone working badly!
Did u try a jig?
Sent from a boy who lives in the City of the Damned, whose parents are Rage and Love.
I have not, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to resort to that.
Hmm okay what about vol up, vol down, and USB plug in from computer?
Sent from a boy who lives in the City of the Damned, whose parents are Rage and Love.
Every combination just brings me to the battery charging screen that flashes on and off everytime the usb goes in.
Aww then I guess a jig would be your next option. Do u know what build number your phone is btw?

And lol your build number is actually on the sticker, on back of your phone. Its four numbers and should be under the words S/N and above SKU. For instant my build number is 1008

Thats okay , I believe there is a certain way of going back to stock with the 1010 build phones idk why though. Also I think u might of lost your button combos somehow since you currently can't boot up into recovery or download mode so a jig is necessary.

1010 builds have to be jigged to get back to download mode after flashing stock JF6 via odin/odin 1 click. You're going to have to buy a jig or buy 3 100k Ohm resistors (radio Shack, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062350 and flash back to JH2 with full odin then update to JH7 either over the air or with the CWM flashable zip. there is a thread on here somewhere about how to make the 99cent jig and for the JH2 stock and the JH7 CWM zip but search never works for me on here.
Here is a good video that shows how to make the .99cent version of the jig.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0aoabVtPJ8
Yeah I just kinda figured all that out a second ago. I think that's the reason why it got bricked is because I tried to restore back using a method that doesn't work for 1010.
Well that's just awesome...
Do you know if this jig type works well?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889128
Seems like the quickest easiest way. I would just buy one from ebay or somewhere, but I don't really feel like being without a phone for like a week.
Thanks for all the help though.

No problem. Good luck! Just be advised, it takes some patience and a few tries to hit the pins 4 and 5 sweet spot, but this does work, I have a build 1010 and used this same method to unbrick mine.
So I got the resistors and built the jig, but still no luck. I have been trying on and off for like 2 hours now.
I might just have to buy a usb one from ebay...
EDIT: Got it to work!!! Finally! I'm now following everything to get it restored correctly. Thanks for your guys' help a ton!

It has finally happened...

I finally managed to do it. I officially bricked my Infuse. No clue how I did it but it's finally borked for good. Cant access download mode when I try nothing happens. Used 4 different computers, 5 different cords and approx 23 different USB slots. 3 different batteries(just incase it was a bad battery) Nothing haha. Infuse is completely dead!.... My backup infuse is pretty messed up as well (screen is cracked all to hell) This happened after I Heimdall'd my phone phone to clean the slate. It booted up, then bootlopped once then just didnt turn on again.
i would try letting it sit with the battery out overnight then giving it a shot again, also try differnt tools like gtg unbrick
also try using a usb jig
(i once messed mine up badly enough that when you put in in download mode it was a black screen with red green and blue dots on it, using gtg unbrick fixed it for me !
fingers crossed that itll come back to life for ya.
if you didnt open it, crack the screen, or drop it in water, att will replace it under warranty. give em a call tomorrow at 18008011101. have your iemi ready.

The batteries been out for a bit now gonna leave it out and put it in tomorrow see if maybe that does something. If anything theres a couple Infuse 4G's on Craigslist for pretty cheap. And if this one doesnt end up working, I'll throw it up on there for parts, might be useful to someone.
Also I dont have an actuall plan with AT&T so thats a no go haha

if it is that might as well take the whole motherboard and switch it out right??
if you know how to do all that of course
but good luck to you and hopefully its nothing major
warranty is different than insurance. even if you buy it off contract or from someone else, you should still have the warranty. they provide 1 year for all branded phones. its only been on sale for 11 months so everyone should be under warranty.

If your cracked screen infuse still works then I would just swap out the internals. Should be easy enough. I did it to my wife's phone.. screen cracked and we had an identical backup phone that my daughter played with. Swapped out the boards and all was well.

I thought I did something similar but then tried a different method of reverting back to stock & it worked.
It wasn't going into download mode either and the screen was all pixilated but it worked. Maybe try a different method of reverting back to stock (gtg unbrick)

HELP I dropped my samsung infuse now the screen wont turn on

Hi please help me with this I just dropped my phone while in the incipio SILICRYLIC ( its supposed to protect the phone ). Now the screen wont turn on but the button touch sensitive buttons still turns on sometimes. I think screen is broken since there is a crack on the top left corner . I am running jblparisi cm9 mod rom based on entropy's cm9 release 6/08 or 6/14 i can't remember which. Is there anyway to get my phone back to stock before I take it back to the att store for warranty ? I am not sure how to get it in to download mode as it takes a while for the bottom buttons to light up when I have it plugged into the charge or computer, but I dont have drivers for it installed on the computer yet. Is there anyway for me to install the phone drivers without having to have the phone give any response ? I am afraid of the att store employee denying the warranty when he checks the phone.
Please help ! I really appreciate any feedback that you give me
If you can't get to boot....they prob can't either....are you covered by insurance?
not sure what to tell you...since it is damaged, i would make sure it won't boot....if att will replace...

Read through the ISET that BigJoe has worked on very hard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610374
but to get it into download mode:
pull battery
press and hold vol up and vol down together
insert battery
insert USB cable
wait till the home soft buttons light up.
If you want you can make a jig to get into download mode. (google it)
another thing you could try is pulling it apart and see if the ribbon wire for the screen came loose from the motherboard. Its not hard a total of 8 screws theres videos on youtube of it.
I presonally agree with BigJoe just make it so it wont boot

I think I just hard bricked my Atrix 2

HI Guys,
So I just tried to flash the Supercharged v7 rom from the ICS leak and now my phone wont turn on. When I have the battery in it heats up a lot, so I think it's trying to turn on.
Is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks
Little more info please.
Were you on the ICS leak before you tried to flash it? Or GB?
Also any LED lights on?
Have you tried a different battery? Will it boot into fastboot? Hold both voume buttons down while it's off and then press and hold the power button.
And for future reference you should have posted this on SC7's thread as it involves the ROM. Keeps the forum a little tidier.

Hi Sorry... Here is some more info:
Yeah I have tried getting it to boot while holding down both volume buttons, but nothing happens. I was on super the ICS leak when I tried to flash, and no LED lights turn on.
Would any more info be helpful? Sorry, I am new to the android scene (had an iphone before)
Thanks
Ok, sounds like a hardbrick, however, the only thing I would try is to get your hands on another battery and see if it boots that way. Possibly borrow one from an AT&T store?
If it doesn't boot with a new battery it's probably an expensive paperweight now.
How did you flash it? With our new recovery? You didn't use the bootstrapper APK did you?

I used the new recovery. I will bring it to an AT&T store and try a new battery.
You sure you used boot menu? AND did you try to "flash" it? Or did you do a system restore....
Also did the phone die in the middle of the flash? Or would it not reboot?
also just hard bricked.......

Yeah this is the same brick many of us got. the battery will get hot, don't know why, but take it out or it is toast along with the phone, many people had that so you may need a new one. your best bet to fix is to buy a cheap broken phone on ebay with a working main board, so basically you are buying a main board but cheaper because people don't realize the phone i worth anything when the screen is shattered and the camera is shot. then you can pop the new board in your old phone and you are good to go.

Try and get it replaced with your warranty that's pretty much your only option with a hard brick

Hard Bricked My US Cellular S3, I think, please help!

I haven't tried the jig, but all the other symptoms such as dead screen, functionless buttons and all are there, so I think it is Hard Bricked. It's really weird what happened, I rooted my S3, it was working perfectly, then I unlocked the bootloader, it was perfectly fine even after that, then using ROM Manager I installed clockwork recovery mod, it was was working great. Then, I deleted my android market using ES File Explorer, and the guide for replacing the market told me to look for Vending.apk and then delete it, I looked but couldn't find it, so I 100% remember I tapped the search button in ES File Explorer and searched for Vending.apk, then suddenly a window popped up with names of files flashing but it didn't say searching or anything just three dots (...) and under there were two options YES and NO. I pressed No, it closed and then popped up again so this time I pressed Yes. then the names of files kept flashing and then it finished but didn't give me any search result, But my Phone memory was showing Empty, only the sd card folder was there and nothing else so I closed the app and opened it again, still the phone memory was empty, I was freaked out, so I restarted the phone and then, it never started :crying: I don't know what happened. Please help?

My device does not go into download mode, nor in recovery, it's buttons are useless and there's a completely dead screen.

have you tried a different battery?
I forgot to mention, it's brand new, this happened the second day I bought it. So, the battery is flawless and perfect.

No its dead for sure. He tried to unlock the us cellualr S3 which would result in a perma brick.
You don't need to unlock the bootloader of the us cellular S3. That is why everything is labeled "verizon unlock" and stuff.

ahh i missed that detail...yes i agree its dead for sure! jtag or new replacement time.
Since it's only a couple days, take it back into USCC store. You're in your 15 day Window, they should swap it for a new one. Act dumb, don't tell them you rooted it. Just say you heard it buzz and it died. They'll mark it down as defective and give you a new one
How the hell was I supposed to know that? The US Cellular S3 is completely identical to the Verizon one, the only difference is the carrier logo, I rooted it with the Verizon S3's guide everything went perfectly fine, so I continued to do all the other stuff. I just got it 2 days ago :crying: . Huff, I've sent it for JTAG to a friend.

Great idea, but, I'm not in the US. I bought this phone from a guy who brought it from the US, I got it for half the price of an S3 here. So now, I don't know what to do, I gave it to friend, I hope he'll fix it, but if he's unable to can I give it to Samsung?
True, well said :'( I messed up big time.

Hi everyone,
I think my fiance might have hard-bricked his (new! Less than 24 hrs old!) Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III. He researched, rooted, set up bit-defender and it was working fine but when he tried to copy music files onto the micro-SD, they appeared to have gone onto the hard-drive instead and made his phone uber sluggish. We had some friends over, so he dropped the issue for a while and then went back to try to fix it only to make things worse. I know there isn't enough detail there about what *else* he tried to do, but when he came to bed last night he was kicking himself for not researching it enough and mentioned that he tried taking the batter out, resetting it, taking the sim card out, resetting it, telling bit defending to wipe the phone, etc. but all it would do last night was just display the 'samsung' logo then go to black.
This morning, I found your threads and tried to do the power+down+home advice that I've seen on a few threads here but it didn't work (obviously).
I suggested using the micro-SD adapter to try to explore the files on a PC, so we might look into that later.
Is there anything else you guys would recommend? I'm thinking the only thing to fix it now is the dopey route. :silly:

Your phone is Soft Bricked not hard bricked, otherwise it wouldn't even turn on, Use A USB JIG to force it into download mode, then reflash with Odin.

If you're such a noob and unprepared for a brick, maybe you shouldn't have ventured down custom ROM/unlock avenue?
Just a thought.

Pull the battery, put it in and let it charge for a while couple hours. Then hold vol - , home and power. If it week go into download/Odin mode you're fine. If so then go to the development thread stickies and follow droid style guide section 6

Great thought, but let me tell you before my Galaxy S3 I owned a Wildfire S, tinkered with it every bit, OC,Rom,bootloader and everything, before that I owned a Huawei U8150, my first android, I literally went bezerk modding that thing. So, I'm not a noob at this,I was a noob at this different Carrier different software kinda thing, I thought the phone was the same and indeed it is, but the difference is that the Verizon's Bootloader is locked. I'm well familiar with everything, I just messed up by not researching that if the bootloader was unlocked already, mainly because I was a bit too excited about getting my S3.
