[email protected] I bought the android device nüvifone a50. It comes with eclair. I heared, that the joined-venture between garmin and asus is at the end. So, there`ll be no official rom-updates to gingerbread or so in the future. I think, this device is a very good one. And it would be great, if some of the great rom-cookers from this forum would create a custom rom based on an gingerbread-rom in german and english language.
I`ll not a rom cooker, but i have already rooted my device and i would learn more about rom-cooking, adb, busy-box pp.
Would anybody help me?
Best regards

I would also love to see a Gingerbread ROM for the A50.
Is it possibel to use any of the other ROM's or does the phone need to have a Rom made specfically for it?
I'd also love to see Gingerbread or Froyo on this phone, is anyone going to make one?
hey guys sorry for interrupting!!! I just was passing looking for something else, garmin asus wont support any rom after 2.1 because the chip does not support this OS.
basically its 256 ROM, 256 RAM, 600 MHtz CPU, ARMv6
but you need ARMv7
btw, I would be happy to have it on mine too.

Hi I 'M a new man here . i bought asus garmin a50 last week .i think it's costs-effective android phone . the hardware almost same as the htc legend, excpet the ram .256vs 387(right).so why htc legend could update to froyo ,a50 can't ???
The A50 (Garminfone) has the 600mhz ARMv6 msm7227. Same as HTC Aria and Legend. Froyo can definitely run on it with official manufacturer roms and custom roms (although it may not be *officially* supported by Google Android 2.2).
We just need someone to figure out the bootloader and cook a rom. I think there is little motivation to do this though, since it will almost certainly kill the Garmin GPS software, which is why most people bought this phone in the first place.
There is some talk on the Cyanogen rom forums about developing a techniques to load a custom rom and still keep the Garmin software, like Cyanogen does with Google Apps. I won't be holding my breath though...
Thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/5864-garminfone-a50/
Thanks sharky for this information - just hope I guess
Chas
i know it's not going to happen officially, but i hold out hope that someone smarter than me is working away at making froyo work for us
What I know is the upgraded os can run apps designed for lower os. This is fact in developing applications. for example app runs on 2.1 will run 2.3.
the dilemma is that asus garmin uses special lib for garmin application these libs need to be ported to the new os. and this is not easy to be done.
thanks
looks no hope yet?

I think its a joke, I bricked my previous phone with crap information and thats enough. never trust morons again.
say it like this
i asked them for 18 months for froyo and they were thinking about it.
send emails to eric chen at asus. we might get a shot at froyo.
every time i buy a non asus or garmin product i send a email to the appropriate company explaining why i am not buying their product.
this tickles them.
still both companies are still at it.
ask any eepad transformer prime owner why they bought a tablet without wifi or gps.
ask anyone who paid for a 12 month map package with garmin and then found 6 months later that they have to pay again for the same package to upgrade it.
yes only garmin would exclude upgrades from a 12 mth package.
fink x fink breeds superfink ...garmin x asus breeds garminasus.
bomb eric chen at asustek with emails until we get service.
I have a Garmin Assus A50 and i don't mind to delete all the existing app or function in the phone include the garmin navigation app. is that possible can upgrade to froyo or higher?
don't think it will ever happen
I don't think or believe will see anything higher then 2.1 on the garmin-asus phone, wish we would.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the possibilities of getting Android up and running on the HD Mini.
A word to the wise…porting Android is NOT easy, it took almost 1 year to get an (almost) fully working port for the HTC Touch Pro, and there were a LOT of really good Linux developers spending TONS of time on it. (The preceding sentence was paraphrased from this post by TheDeadCpu.)

Me to!! Can't live with what's in the HD Mini, but most certainy I can live with the hardware. Anybody knowing how to androidize it?
I bought HD mini due to the outlook, size and weight!
Legend have poor taste and the shape is not good to store in pocket.
Frankly, WM is more easy to copy and edit the Word/Excel files from PC and I can check some files out of office easily.
And I just seek for any solutions for multi-boot with Android OS as Android looks better and I just want to try it and need not to buy another phone.
Cos I have one iPhone already, too many mobile phones~
When the evo rom arrives, it will be ported to hd2. I find it logical that it will be a android powered hd mini in the future. Then, it would be rather easier than now to create a custom android rom for hd mini But I should stick to reality.
The dual boot app for winmo devices isn't written for hd minis hvga resolution.
But hey, the diamond 2 or touch pro 2 does not have a android twin to take a rom from. I will put up a request for hd mini support for the android dual boot app.
The hd mini would have been a great android device!
Sorry for bad English.
Thanks gingerviking! I agree that the hardware is made for Android rather than wm6.5. I cross my finger for a rapid solution - WM is just not for me anymore..
Good news is that a genious has managed to get the linux bootloader to work on hd2 and playing a 720p video. An Android port will soon come to hd2 even without the evo rom
Hopefully the kernel system on hd2 isn`t all that different from the hd mini
Well. We're all looking forward to see a genious hacker who cares about the hd mini and android. =)
Don't know if it will work but you guys could give it a try cause it runs via haret:

@XDA-Mods: after months of waiting! when will you update my account?
Anything else besides android that you guys might want??? how about some cookies along with it? lol if you wanted android why did you bought a windows mobile based device?? cause of haret? if you want android on your hd2 mini, yould need a working linux kernel, then you can worry about android, and its not that easy im not going over this again im tired of explaining to noobs that android is not a a program that you can simply install...it dosnt work that way.

Hi all,
Am a newbie to Android tablets/devices both in terms of hardware and software. So if my post is posted in the wrong thread or reposted pls pardon me. I just want to understand a few basics.
As you all may know, now the market is being flooded by those Chinese made Android tablets. And many of them looks good (at least on paper) and at a very good price. But the problem is most of the time when come to chinese goods, they don't usually do what they claims (if you know what i mean). and the best part most of the salesperson don't know anything about the products they are selling especially when comes to tech gadgets like the Android tablets.
So here i am seeking help from you gurus and hoping i can start my Android journey on the right step. Below are a few questions. Hope I can get answers (links to somewhere where i can read up or anything).
1. What are the conditions (CPU make, firmware, etc) to fulfill if i wan to upgrade/root/hack the original Android OS? Cos most of the chinese made tablets are running on Android 1.5. Hoping to be able to upgrade the OS whenever a newer one comes out. Like the latest 2.1 And be able to download new apps from the apps market.
2. Which CPU chip is better and what are the common CPU chips in the market now? I know there are the Rockchips, VIA, Telechips.
3. Can we tell what are the hardware (CPU make etc) and software (OS/firmware version, etc) that are being used in the device from the system setting or something?
4. I read somewhere that not all CPU chips can be upgraded to the latest OS. i.e. that any upgrade is determined by the CPU chip. Is it true?
5. As for custom ROM, is it also device dependable? Like is there a generic ROM for all devices?
For now these are the questions which are bugging me. Hope the gurus here can enlighten this Android newbie.
Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for any help.
Hmmm. Just check that it is upgradable to froyo and it has more than 500mhz cpu

if you are looking for a tablet just get an ipad. the android tablets i see floating around are just 1.5 or 1.6. even if you get a tablet that can do 2.2 (froyo)... i dont see how that can be any better than an ipad.
i just feel that 2.2 isnt meant to be in tablet form. if you can wait... wait for 3.0 before you decide. the main deterrent here is the maximum resolution for android (854 x 480 or something), and that the apps were made with phones in mind.
im very happy with my nexus one... i just cant imagine having a tablet running android as of the moment unless its very very cheap ($200 or so).
i for one will get an ipad next month. my nexus one with wifi tether + the basic wifi ipad will be gadget heaven. looking to get an ipad primarily for reading magazines (zinio) and comic books. android does not have zinio yet. the android comic viewer (ACV) i use on my nexus is ok... but not great. then theres the games. games on android are still so so with less variety and choices.
as a phone the android is great! better than the iphone (yes im an apple user through and through) even. but as a tablet... not quite yet.
Hp is going to release a tablet so is samsung with 2.2

Hopefully start seeing some of these 2.2 tablets in the 3rd Quarter...
Hi,
Sorry if this has already been answered, but I have looked in as many threads on here as I can find and none seem to answer my question.
I'm looking for a 2.x rom for a Garmin-Asus A10. I'm from New Zealand and the carrier branded handsets here are stuck on Android 1.6. I have a few colleagues who are having issues with this handset using exchange, and according to some research, 1.6 is a bit crap at handling exchange.
What I am hoping to do is flash a 2.x rom to one of our demo handsets and do a side by side comparison of the handset running 1.6 and 2.x. However I am unable to find a rom to do this with...is there anyone out there who is able to provide any kind of 2.x rom for it at all?
I'm not just looking for a quick fix for someone to do this for me, I'm interested in getting in to rom development but cooking roms is a bit over my head at the moment.
Any help would be awesome, and again, sorry if this is a noob question, I just can't seem to find this information anywhere.
Cheers
open market firmware update garmin asusu A10 eclair
Dear A10'ers,
The Danish site of garmin-asus left the front door open to get 3 firmware updates through their site.
One of them is the open market "softwareopdateringer". Click on the link and cancel 4 times and you'll get the install software, by unpacking it you can see that they use XML code to download the update file from the garmin site.
I hope that this information gives a true hacker the opportunity to make it possible to use the open market version for a branded telephone to be updated to 2.1.
Greetings and good luck to you all,
asdfghjklµ
Is this the only way to get a 2.1 rom? I figured all that would need to be done would be to extract the 2.1 rom (I know, probably not quite that easy) from an existing A10 running 2.1...
Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?
Edit: I just realised by "open market" you are probably referring to a rom without carrier branding. Do all A10s running 2.1 have carrier branding or have I completely missed the point here?
I was searching for this as well and it looks like they have updated it on there site but you have to do a bit of digging to find it. Its a Telecom rom as well so its official. I cant post urls as I am new here but got to garminasus dot com. then click the location on the top right making sure its set to NZ. Its then under support - software updates. Instructions there as well. Nice christmas present
Oh that must have been very recent, I have checked up on that regularly and it hasn't been there. I'll have to have another look, thanks for the heads up.
Almost the whole reason I haven't switched from WinMo yet is because of garmin mobile xt. I procured it in 2008 but they don't sell or update it anymore but the new maps still work albeit the .exe is 2.5 years old.
I asked a couple times about this and never got a competent response, but if that garmin android software that I can't buy because Garmin and Asus are retarded could be ripped from a ROM dump I'd commission it. Asus makes my mobos but HTC makes my phones. Also, in rural areas of the United States Navteq maps get me lost less than TeleAtlas does. And I like garmin's trip configurator, GUI, and routing engine. In before "use GMM...", usually when I need GPS I'm in an EDGE area or no service whatsoever, so it's nice to be able to navigate without worrying about AT$T's crappy network not existing properly.
Rooted Garmin Asus A10 Need ROM
Hi.
Got a few questions to a man with a bigger brain than my self.
First of:
Just got my Garmin Asus A10 rooted with SuperOneClick - Great tool btw.
I've installed setCPU, set the min+high freqz to 600mhz - hoping on a better benchmark with Quadrant but the result where actually lower then before the root and freq settings.
Second of:
What am i doing wrong?
Do i need a ROM? - If Yes, then what ROM should i use?
Third of:
What about my Kernel, do i need a stronger heart to my 2.1 Eclaire.
Hope to hear from someone.
System information:
Rooted Danish Garmin Asus A10 with a contract @Telenor - Denmark.
Firmwareversion: 2.1-update1
Kernelversion: 2.6.29 [email protected] #28
Buildversion: A10-V5.0.69-user-20101022
If you're wanting a higher clock speed you will need to flash a custom kernel. I'm not sure if there are many developers on here who have made kernels for this phone, but as far as I'm aware, that's the only way to overclock.
A custom rom may help with the quadrant benchmark score, but I have been unable to find any custom roms for this device. I don't know if I just have been looking in the wrong places or if rom developers just aren't interested.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on. I just updated one to the official 2.1 Telecom XT build today, definite improvement all round. Prior to about 2 days ago they were all stuck on 1.6, which inspired my quest to find custom roms for it lol.

sMy Sentiments exactly! I bought my first winmo phone in 2008 and have been stuck with them purely because of the GMXT software that it can run. However, android OS has proven itself as a stable mobile system now, i would like to migrate to a green man platform, but am stuck with my Acer S-200 running GMXT on a modded rom. Can anyone extract the Android installer (CAB/APK) file out of the GarminAsus A10 rom, and post it? this would help us Garmin Mobile XT aficionados make the final plunge into the Android Phone Market.

I agree. I have Garmin XT on my HTC. I was loving the idea with the Garminfone here, but couldn't afford the $899 price tag it came with retail. waiting for a bit for the prices to come down on TradeMe...

better yet, step by step Instructions For Androids
Ok, so I'm pretty new to this whole Android thing, but I'm not daft and know a think or two about computers and software, so I'm not a complete 'noob'...
However, to spare me the drama of trawling through thousands of pages, I have a few quick concise questions, and would appreciate concise answers.
So I bought a generic handset, branded as an Onyx Dragon though AnTuTu benchmark app tells me its a Yusu... details and specs from Chinavision.com (search Onyx Dragon).
I initially bought it because I needed a new phone (been on a Moto V3 Razr for about 6 years!) so got this cos it was cheap and looked good. Runs Froyo on what I have found to be pretty **** hardware (MT6516, advertised as 416MHz but shown to be around 207MHz, but not sure if this is main CPU or radio core...) with not a lot of RAM. I installed an 8Gb SD card to save the apps and keep as much free internal space as possible, in case the OS supports disc memory (?). The wireless is good and screen works well, but the GPS, navigation and camera are rubbish, but they are not why I bought it; I have a decent camera and I can read a map. Its definitely 'entry level' so I'm not too bothered if I brick it.
Since I got it, and seeing the many cheap 'clones' out there, I'm keen to get into them a bit more and start developing. I already rooted it with z4root, BusyBox and Superuser all installed fine. ROM Manager is running but because I don't know the actual brand I'm not yet running ClockWorkMod (doesn't show up in the list). I'm keen to install Gingerbread or maybe even CyanogenMod 7, but cannot flash the ROM without CWM. Can anyone tell me what phone 'model' I should use for this particular handset?
I can't overclock the chipset, but have been looking at other clones to play with, such as htc Incredible G11i Pro clone from etotalk.com and 'CyberStar' 3G handset with MT6573 650MHz chipset (also from Chinavision).
Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with these clones? They look great and if they work as well as the budget model I have now then there is certainly potential. Sure, they may not be as good as a genuine Galaxy or Nexus, but then the price reflects that. However, as a cheap development platform you can't really go wrong! I'd like to see faster processors and more hardware mod ability such as clocking, just to see what is possible. Anyone tried ICS on one of these? I read elsewhere that if Froyo runs ok on a cheap device then GB should be better. My friend has GB 2.3.3 on a genuine $500 Galaxy S2 and I'd love to show him up with a rooted and clocked clone running ICS for a fraction of the price!!
Well, thats not as concise as I would like, but it covers pretty much everything. One last thing though, I cannot install ES File Explorer 1.6.1, it will download from Market and attempt to install but then fail. The latest version I have is the pre-installed 1.4.2.2. I've tried everything I can think of; downloading on my Mac and copying via USB to install from Astro making sure ES is not running, failed. Tried uninstalling ES with ROM Toolbox having root access and disabled AVG, failed. Tried to launch new version from package options, failed. I have installed ES Task Manager v1.2 but cannot use all the features as it says File Explorer needs to be updated, and needless to say updating it from the prompts failed as well... Any ideas? I'm thinking a flash to GB should include the latest version (or better alternative).
Thanks all in advance!
I don't think it's possible to run ICS on such a low spec'd device. This onyx dragon runs on a 416Mhz ARM9 processor with a 200 Mhz ARM7 GPU. Even the G1 that uses a 528Mhz ARM11 CPU can't run ICS well. I would suggest that you give up on theses crappy chineses devices. If you don't have money you can find a LG Optimus One for 100 bucks on ebay and it is A LOT better than any of these chinese crap phones

Hey all, thanks for the feedback. Basically, sure I don't want to spend a lot being a student, I don't have a lot, but I'm keen to get more out of what I can afford, hence the Chinese crap (yes it is crap but if it does what you need...) : ) just a shame I can't clock mine! Does anyone know if ANY MediaTec chips can be?
Sure, I think running ICS is a bit optimistic, but I'd still like to give GB or C-Mod a go, providing I can get CWM installed. I'd like to compile myself and even think about refining my own version, perhaps slimming down a newer version to run on low performance hardware. What's this about a special cable needed with a 3.5mm jack?
And am I right in thinking Honeycomb was only for tablets, not phones...?

Yes you are right about honeycomb. As for the device. Without kernel source which will never be released due to copyright issues you may have a bit of trouble Modding it. CM only supports authentic devices and not clones as the hardware specs as you learned are faked and never true.

Hi droidscope,
Not all the Chinese phones are crap there are a few very capable phones now entering the market and they are catching up the bigboys rapidly.
For more info & reviews on the latest Chinese phones check over here http://www.gizchina.com/category/phones/ Try to stick with the branded chinese phones such as Zopo, ZTE, Newman etc because there is at least some support where as the direct copy/clones have no support at all. If buying try to get the phone pre rooted because some of the Chinese phone are getting more difficult to root. I would look here http://www.etotalk.com/ if buying and select the MOD ROM $4.99 for most phones then the phone will come pre rooted with working playstore language etc. They do not 1 to 1 copys although some of the phones have more than a passing look of some of the more famous brands. I have used them a few times and they have not let me down be sure to email them first to ask about stock levels though.
Hi Guys,
im the new guy i search an rom for my ASUS MeMO Pad FHD 10 ME302C i found some roms for ASUS_MeMO_Pad_FHD_10_ME302KL but the hardware is diffrent.
does anyone know how i flash this tablet to android 7 ?
at the moment there is android 4.3 installed , everytime when i try to install something i get the message to old android .... but in my opinion the hardware is good enough to run android 7.
CPU : Intel® Atom™ Z2560 Dual-Core, 1.6 GHz
Graphic : PowerVR SGX 544MP
push .
does anyone know a rom for my device ?
I also want to know
Owners of ASUS MeMoPad FHD 10 (ME302C) should probably try to crowdfund a developer to get us a new ROM.
I know for me I am willing to donate to this crowdfunding drive. This tablet still has a pretty good hardware and with the new ROM will
definitely run any apps installed. So let's get a group of ME302C owners and start a crowdfund to a developer who can create a new ROM!
Absolutely agree. I'd be happy to chip in too. The only question is, how much it will cost, how many people are willing to chip in, how to spread the news and find interested parties; and, to be fair, once the new ROM is written and paid for, it should only be made available to the people who actually donated their money. gofundme.com may be a good place to start.
Maybe we can

The only question is, how much it will cost, how many people are willing to chip in, how to spread the news and find interested parties; and, to be fair, once the new ROM is written and paid for, it should only be made available to the people who actually donated their money. gofundme.com may be a good place to start.

Please, contact with me here if you planned to donate (or if you a rom developer), on insta:do_.b
I think it will be very usefull for everyone who has this tablet, but I think we need smth like a team, to coordination.
Hi guys. I'm an Italian user and I agree with you... Our tablet is still a great device. So I would like a new Rom for it because many application are becoming unsupported. Do you know if there are some differences between the different region production? Tell me how I can recognize my version Rom or kernel or something like that.
However I'm with you.
