[Q] microsdhc weakest link phone or card? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
Later this month I should receive my LG Optimus 2x, and I was looking for a 32GB microsdhc. I then I found out that there were different Classes and each class have different speeds. But what is the weakest link? If i buy the fastest microsdhc will the phone be able to use the microsdhc to its full potential?
And another question, is it worth having a fast microsdhc card, or is it only good for transferring files?

Some questions about Micro Cards

Hello,
I need a Micro card for my Samsung Galaxy S, and this is my first time that I actually look what mark and whats its speed etc, so I'm new to all this class thing.
The options are:
MS SANDISK Memory Stick Pro Hg Duo UltraII
microSDHC SANDISK TransFlash Mobile Ultra
microSD SANDISK TransFlash
MS SANDISK Memory Stick Micro M2
SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDHC
Kingston Micro SDHC
So which one of these is the best? Is there a noticeable difference between them?
I intend to buy a 4GB one.
Thanks.
this thread should have a lot of good info for you - and you want a micro sdhc card, the sandisk ultra is a good card if you can find one - see my other threads about trying to buy from KomputerBuy and Macmall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693445
OK I just read the whole thread and its clear that "ultra is the best"..
So I'm going to buy one asap
yeah, but be careful - the ultra is supposed to be a class 4 card and what everyone is shipping is a class 2 -
see my other thread - apparently there's a mem shortage
i agree the ultra is the way to go, but i'd buy it local and bring a magnifier so you can read the frigging class number
Yea thanks for the warning I will go personally and check them out.
i'm using a Transcend 16 GB microSD class 6, also an Adata 16 GB class 6, no problem reading/writing.
in contrast my old HTC Athena, was only able to READ 16GB, but not write to it, the maxium size the HTC Athena was able to WRITE was up to 8GB, it was really weird to say the least.

Micro SDHC Compatibility

Hi,
This may be a silly question for some but i've searched around and i still cannot find a definitive answer anywhere with regards to micro sdhc cards being used in the samsung galaxy s. If i was to purchase a micro sdhc card am i going to need some form of adapter? I only ask because most places i shop around only sell micro sdhc cards.
It was my understanding that the galaxy s only had a micro sd slot which is what is currently confusing me.
Thanks.
it supports up to 32 GB of microSD
anything larger than 4 GB = SDHC support
Galaxy S supports Micro SDHC.
(Allgamer basically said that, just in a slightly roundabout manner).
I'd like to know (please), whether the device can perform all functionality such as record hd and playback 720p movies over dlna from a class 2 card? I want to order a sandisk 16gb card, but would save the pennies on a class 4, if a class 2 performs well.
you could still get a class 6 16GB cheaper than getting a Class 2 16GB Sandisk, if you buy from other brands like Transcend (excellent), Adata, OCZ, Kingston, etc....
If it helps, I'm using an old class 6 Transcend 8GB. Bought for a micro DVcam (hence the need for class 6) last year and think it was around £10 then - possibly cheaper now?
You can get a 8 GB SDHC from DealExtreme.com for < $20 any day of the week.
Lexar Secure Digital 16GB class 10, 133X
How about this one?
Lexar Secure Digital 16GB class 10, 133X
Tip: SDHC
Size (MB): 16384
Rate (MB/s): 20MB/s
Class 10
Is Lexar a good name for memories?
I am currently using 4 GB Micro SDHC card with SGS.It is my old phones (HTC HD Mini) Micro SDHC card and it is working great.
I just bought this Wintec 16GB class 10 from Newegg.com... now whether it's an actual class 10 that's to be determined cause it's in the mail. But for $30 you at least get 16GB.
anyone try a-data 32gb class 10?
I'm curious if anyone try a-data 32gb class 10?
half the price of other 32gb cards.
the reason I ask is many folks report issues with hd cams.

not that i know of, so far all the confirmed legit SanDisk 32Gb has been Class 2
some places advertise they have Class 4 SanDisk 32Gb microSD but.... the picture and the price listed are those of a Class 2
some people have confirmed the Class 2 SanDisk 32Gb microSD can write 4Mb/s but that was on a new empty disk test
i would like to see some test done on 60% full 32Gb Class 2 SanDisk microSD to see if it can sustain a Class 4 write after half full, being a Class 2
check this review link http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/review-of-kingston-class-4-32gb-microsdhc-card/
should buy Kingston or Sandisk 32GB MicroSD for my Samsung GT-i9000 Galaxy S
or any other brand?

How ?? A 720p video at maximum quality usually takes around 1.5 ~ 1.8MBps, so a Class 2 (2MBps guaranteed write speed) in theory should be quite sufficient, at least with my Class 2 cards I haven’t had any trouble recording 720p video. The Sandisk 16GB Class 2 I have can be written to at a minimum constant speed of 8MBps (has around 4Gigs of Data on it already). And the Nokia branded (not sure about the actual brand) 8GB Class 2 which I got with my previous Nokia phone can be written to at 4MBps + (has 7Gigs of Data already). So IMO as long as you go with a name brand you should be able to get more than 2MBps writing speed which should be enough for 720p video.
You might get better speeds when transferring large files to your phone, but how often do you do that ?? And if you do that over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth like I mostly do, it won't matter at all. Spending on anything above class 6 (e.g Class 10) IMO is a total waste of money. I use a class 6 on my DSLR to record 1080p video, haven't had any issues with it so far. So I hardly think Galaxy S can exhaust a Class 6 card, or even a branded Class 2.
video is a secondary use
i use it mainly for applications and data transfer (portable hard drive), the faster the better, the less noticeable lag, and speeds up Titanium Backup quite considerably

The recent batch of SanDisk microSDHC cards (seen here in Brussels in Media Markt and Fnac) has Class 2 marking changed to Class 4 (8, 16 and 32GB). They have exactly the same packaging down to part numbers. That's mine for example: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e62/ping_ling/android/microsdhc.jpg

Micro SD Card

Hi there as we start to get ready for the purchase of our new 3D Phone.
what Micro sd cards will you be buying class 2,4,6,10 and capacity and which brand and from who.
at least class 6...
brands like kingstone,sandisk,trascend etc
sandisk 16GB
keeping all that in mind we need the best price I was thinking a 16 or 32gb not sure on class, but best price is a deff
These guys have some of the best prices in the EU:
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC?filters=size:16384#allProducts
Got a 16GB sandisk class 4 that has been tested to run at class 6 read and almost 6 at write.
Now there is a sale on integral, kingston and sandisk, all at class 4.
Keep an eye open they may get something better...

Lexar are maybe the best memory avaiable.
I bought a Mustang 16gb class10
done some test:
18-20mb/s read
15-17mb/s write
so fast
If you can recommend the Mustang Cards i think i'll try one as well as they are really cheap compared to other cards (~35€ for 32GB instead of 45€-60€). Will get the 32GB though.
yes i have one olso on my digital camera and 0 problems

http://www.redcoon.be/index.php/cmd...9461/cid/37002/ADATA_microSDHC_32GB_Class_10/
I have an ADATA 32GB SDHC class 4 but when connected via USB cable in mass storage mode the write speed stays below 300KB/s.
If I place the card in a USB adapter the writing speed is about 4,6MB/sec.
What is the problem? Thanks!

Doesn't the PSP run on Memory Stick's rather than SD cards?
Am using A-Data 8GB class 4, it works fine (both stills and video is being smoothly recorded) so i dont see any reason why to pay more for better (faster) class

Lexar or Samsung 32gb MicroSD Card Recommend?

Hi guys i am looking to buy a 32gb Class 10, MicroSD card for my Desire, i am planning to partition it so i can have more internal space. After searching the market for a competitive price, i have came down to 2 options:
Lexar 32GB Micro SDHC Class 10 Extreme Speed
Samsung MB-MSBGAEU 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card
I would appreciate if users here can recommend me which one i should go for and why (if owned either and used) ?
Thanks alot
As far as I know, many of the higher class cards have been produced by biasing performance to continuous read/write speeds, for use in camcorders/cameras etc so they can record ultra HD or burst capture etc. HOWEVER, for use in a phone, which needs greater random read/write access they can suffer compared to a regular class 4 which is a better balanced card. There is a lot of this going on in the HTC Mozart pages here on XDA, where I've been spending time (had a Mozart, ROM'd it and gave it to my girlfriend, she loves it).
Many people have tried different 32gb/16gb cards, different classes from 2-10 and the results have been surprising. WP7 seems to be unusually fussy about the cards that will actually work with it, and the only card guaranteed to work everytime is SANDISK which says a lot about the quality, and people have been finding that performance with a Class 4 SanDisk card is better than performance with a supposed Class 10 card by another manufacturer such as Integral, Transcend etc or even Samsung and Kingston.
In the end I bought a 32gb SanDisk Class 4 off Amazon, for a lot more than they are on eBay at around £28, apparently there are loads of near-fakes on eBay (only way I could guarantee it was genuine- the chinese are using genuine 4gb SanDisk cards and then re-branding and re-coding them as 32gb, the card thinks it's a 32gb, reports that it's a 32gb card but obviously runs out of room and has errors as soon as you try to put stuff on it).
Hope this helps- generally you get what you pay for and if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
I bought yesterday a samsung class 6, 16 GB micro-sd card.
H2testw:
Writing speed: 10.00 MByte/s
Reading speed: 15.5 MByte/s
i know this post is about 20 days old, but maybe you haven't choosen a sd card yet
i first got a 16gb lexar class 6 card -> everything was fine
now i got a 32 gb samsung class 10 card
and i must say there is no remarkable speed/transfer difference
so buy a card which is class 6 or higher and everything should be fine
I have the Lexar class 10 32Gb card in my Desire, no problems. I bought it from Amazon during their Black Friday sale.
I have the Samsung 32gb class 10. Working flawlessly with 1gb ext4.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Lol I have the Samsung 32gb class 10. Working flawlessly with 2gb ext4.
Lexar 32 gb class 10
I got a lexar 32 gb class 10 at Christmas. So far no troubles, but I've never done any speed tests on it.
So far happy.
I got a 'Lexar 32GB Micro SDHC Class 10 High Speed' for £27 from Play.com and it works a treat!!!
Samsung MB-MSBGAEU 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card
crystaldiskmark 3.0.1

4k read: 3.736MB/s 4k write: 0.693MB/s
4k (QD32) read: 3.833MB/s 4k write: 0.683MB/s
I think I have fallen foul of this, I bought two 32gb cards from'micro sd cards uk' @ about 15 quid each and I cant write to them properly they are class 10 so they should be ok but I have nothing but probs with them on two laptops with different cards readers,
Ill contact the vendors tomorrow Ill keep you posted.
Sounds very cheap for a class 10 32gb card, I bought my samsung one around christmas for £35 and that was the cheapest price at the time!
I'm sorry to say this but if something sounds to good to be true then it probably is...
Definately Lexar that's what use and its works great and very fast too
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium HD app
I have been using Lexar 32gb class 10 for a year and its very good. I bought it for 29$ on a sale and that's what makes it amazing actually.
Here are the avarege speeds after 3 runs:
Read 19.4
Write 10.8
I strongly suggest to anyone.
not just ebay

I thought that the maximum allowed for Desire was 16 gb. Mine is 16 gb (Samsung), with good data transfer performance. By the way, in your situation I would go for Samsung.

Samsung EVO 64GB MicroSDXC worth it?

Hi guys
So I currently have a SanDisk Ultra Class10 32GB MicroSDHC in my phone, but I am running out of space and I am looking at getting a 64GB MicroSDXC. I am tempted to get a Samsung EVO 64GB MicroSDXC, anyone had one of these? Are they noticeably better than SanDisk's Ultra range?

Hey buddy!
While I cant compare the EVO to the Sandisk ultras.. I do have a 64gb EVO and all I can say is that I am extremely blown away with the performance of the sd card. Not to mention how damn cheap they are! I setup a ftp server on my wifi and was able to transfer about 40gb of mkv to the sd card at like 9-10mb/s. The read and write rate are incredible.

Hey! I had the same 32GB ultra in my phone at first and found that i ran out of memory quickly. I broke down and opted for the 128 GB EVO and I love it. Well worth the extra money spent. If 64 is enough for you then that is the one I would go with. But my thought process was I plan to use my SD Card throughout more phones in the future. As technology gets better and better it seems that file sizes get larger and larger (in particular the size of movie files) so I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to worry about running out of space for a couple years at least. Just my 2 cents.

I'm using 2 pcs of 64 GB Samsung EVO microSDXC UHS1.
One for my Note 10.1 N8000 & One for my Note 4 N910H.
Both microSDs run very well, I even get 12-15MB/s when copying files into the microSD.
Tested using an app, it can reach around 16 MB/s write speed.
Next time I'll buy the 128GB version
Do check out the Evo+ cards as well. They sell at slight premium but offers almost twice the data throughput of evo cards. Pro and pro+ cards are even more expensive but the speed bump isnt as much.
I have the 64GB Pro and transfer speeds seem to be pretty fast when transferring files and such (I haven't actually tested it).
Also recently bought a few 64GB Evo cards for family members and tablets.
sure it worth it
