[ROM] HoboMod V.1.7 [SMBR AOSP GINGERBREAD] [1-3-2011] - Motorola Milestone Android Development

[ROM] HoboMod V.1.7 [SMBR AOSP GINGERBREAD] [6-2-2011]
Alright folks, Here's my modded version of edgardcastro's Shadowmod-BR AOSP GINGERBREAD (See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939555 )
It's basically intended as a fast "global" version of the rom (as in it uses the generic basebands etc.)
Going to steal Cyanogen's disclaimer:
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or the current economic crisis. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modificiations, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
All credit must go to him, and all the guys he credited in his post (nadlabak, f_pasha, mtwebster, rcerqueira, koush, MDijkstra, the guys from cvpcs and everyone else that had the patience to help).
Extra credit goes to feeyo, for the memory and kernel tweaks from cronos froyo milestone, which work nicely with this rom and Cloakt for his awesome work on Zeam Launcher.
What I've done:
Core:
-Added a global list of APN's from cyanogenmod
-Changed baseband to European
-Changed Default region and language to EN-US
-Added Fancy animations
-Changed Default wallpaper to something more hdpi
-Overclocked to 900mhz, using CM6 VSELS
-Added Cronos kernel/memory tweaks (into the Governor file)
-Added Battery Percentage to Battery Icons (Unfortunately Milestone only sees every 20%, but at least it gives a better idea of what is happening)
Apps:
-Added HO!NO! GB Keyboard, has larger keys.
-Removed default gingerbread launcher and replaced with zeam
-Protips.apk removed
-Removed Maps and Youtube (I don't use them, and they just sit there using up 10mb of cached memory all the time, If you want them back you can install from the market)
-Google Feedback removed (force close reporting)
-Live Wallpapers removed
-Added File Manager
-Added Musicmod
-Added LG Optimus x2 Weather Widget (Slimmed down from 11mb to 5.7mb, removed useless weather animations - which don't work)
-Added Widget Picker Mod (Groups Widgets - Thanks to boombuler )
What's not working:
Some SMBR users are reporting camcorder issues, and random reboot issues.
Installation Instructions:
IF YOU ARE ON 2.1 START HERE:
1. All the standard stuff, nandroid, wipe everything, cache, dalvik cache, data.
2. Install APAC leak nandroid from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929646 (assuming it's still the latest leak)
IF YOU ARE ON 2.2 ALREADY START HERE:
3. Install the update.zip
4. Reboot!
If coming from an earlier version of Shadowmod-BR (Gingerbread) or HoboMod, you do not need to wipe data, only cache and dalvik cache, and then apply the latest update.zip.
Plans for this rom:
I plan to keep updating this along with shadowmod, possibly every second release, they aren't big changes that I have made, just enough to tweak it to my liking

I flashed it over 28.1 MIUI rom that has the latest kernel. I believe that you can flash it over any rom that has the latest leaked moto kernel for 2.2
Really fast, the non-working Gmail is the only major issue I've noticed so far.
Btw. What will happen if I insert 10overclock into init.d, will it overwrite the default overclock?

Nope, I added the overclock to the 72_governor file, so you will have to edit that
In future I will probably lower the VSEL a bit, will probably follow Mr. Beackman's guide in the original rom thread.
I'm not sure how it will go coming from other roms, as long as the 2.2.1 kernel is there it should work, but I would still wipe data/cache first, as I am not sure about compatibility etc. (so you will have to reinstall apps)

I had no problems, did data/dalvik/cache wipe, market happened to restore all my apps (of course had titanium backup done too).
I wouldn't try flashing it over with no data wipe

I have been using MIUI for a long time now.
This GB ROM seems enticing.
would try it definately.
anyways, any update on GMAIL usage, as i need this working as much of business is done on this.

For now you can either use stock Mail application, or wait a few hours for update that is on its way (probably will get Hobo'ed tomorrow - hope you don't mind the term, mr. mystichobo )

Downloading for test this rom guy!
Thanks for your work!

Thanks for the ROM. It is fast and seems stable so far. Market does not work but it could be because I updated it over HO!NO!'s ROM instead of the leaked APAC ROM. I also only wiped Dalvik cache and cache partition - I did not wipe data.
I noticed tethering is missing (I really need this)

Jesus, why can't you do it how it is said it should be done? With data wipe everything works well. And for tethering you have to download the tethering app from market, or install gapps for the stock one.

Can you update this with the latest ShadowMod fixes?

Yep, going to do it tomorrow morning hopefully, if not, probably the day after (can only use net in the morning, low download limits, and trying to fit it in around work).

In case my post was misunderstood, I wasn't complaining about market not working. I was simply stating it so that others know that this ROM can run on top of the existing froyo ROM that I was using except for the market app.
As for tethering, I was referring to the USB tethering, which is not an app. Sorry, I wasn't clear about that. Wireless tethering is always an option, but I prefer not to go that route.

how is battery on this???also can a data restore over this rom tried on orginl and i get stuck at m screen

Alrighty, I've updated it to the latest shadowmod version
Unfortunately, I won't be able to upload it until tomorrow morning Though, it does give me some time to play with the rom for a bit and work out bugs.
Quick Changelog for you guys to ponder over for a while:
-Changed Default region and language to EN-US
-Added HO!NO!'s Modded Milestone Gingerbread keyboard (isn't squished like the default one)
-Removed default gingerbread launcher and replaced with zeam
-Removed Shadowmod updater (doubt it will work with modded version)
-Protips.apk removed (useless widget imo )
-Google Feedback removed (force close reporting)
-Live Wallpapers removed (always run quite laggily for me, so they never got used)
-Added File Manager
-Added Musicmod
-Changed Default wallpaper to something more hdpi
-Changed baseband to European
-Added Fancy animations (the ones that everyone saw in Froyo Gingerbread themes)
-Widget Picker Modded (so it groups widgets)
-Overclocked to 950mhz, using slightly lowered CM6 VSELS
-Added Cronos kernel/memory tweaks (into the overclock file)
-Increased Dalvik VM cache size to 40mb
-All updates from latest shadowmod (screen off, gmail, memory management)
-GPS fixed (hopefully)

Eagerly waiting

Any kernel should work with this ROM other than stock.
If you are coming from 1.1.xx do NOT try to save yourself some time by flashing 1.2.xx overtop of it. 1.1 & 1.2 are completely different frameworks.

I will be updating this with the latest OTA as soon as possible. Right now I don't have the deodexed ROM yet. But I am running the latest OTA and it is compatible though. I hope that helps.
So for some reason Quadrant isn't working right for me right now, I'm going to look into that, but I did do a series of Linpack tests and here were my results.

Ok, after your battery life post I'm going to jump into the rom thing.
So I'm an IT guy and I'm pretty good with this stuff but I've never done this on an android phone.
correct me if I'm wrong.
steps are
1. Root phone using "One click root"
2. Install this ROM
right?

Yep
To install a ROM from stock, here's how.
Navigate to "Settings-->Applications-->Development
Ensure that "USB debugging" is checked.
Plug in your USB cord
Run "One click root for the Epic 4G"
Run the "One Click" ClockworkMod Recovery
Shut down phone
Power up the phone while holding the volume down + camera + power button
You should now be in Clockwork Recovery mode
Navigate to "wipe data/factory reset"
Now "wipe cache partition"
Now it's time to install the ROM (should be located on your SD card)
Select "install zip from sdcard"
"choose zip from sdcard"
Install the ROM
Reboot.
Thanks man for the hard work and Jesus that response was faster than my phone! Lol

Hey guys this sounds great, how are we on battery life though?? And will this wipe my Cricket settings?
Any way you can get visual voicemail to work without the mms messages like you get on the AOSP magic rom? Also if you could get the pause/skip/play functionality off the provided inline headphones you would be my hero!

[ROM][DISCONTINUED] -=AlienMind's CM 7.1v1.99=- [2.3.5][LordModUEv6.6][OC 2.0GHz]

This rom is not longer supported. See my new thread if you are interested in the mod
Why another ROM?
- No special reason. I was sticking to MDJ's v1.4 CM7 build but it was stuck for more than a month. So I took the latest CM7 nighty stable enough for me, added my default extras and share it for you.
- CM7 nighties are missing some very popular features, like Lord Clockan's kernel by default, Miui Camera, gapps with camera support, etc. Consider this ROM a little time saver for you.
- This is my first ROM, and I wanted to learn in the process of making one.
I'm happy with CM7, and I can flash the extras myself, should I try your ROM?
At this moment this ROM provides only a standard CM7 nightly with some extras preinstalled and some tweaks at boot. If you are happy with your CM7 and flashing the kernel yourself, then stick with it! This ROM is only a timesaver for those installing for the first time.
You can also get some other night build or CM variant, and apply alternative AlienMod over it to get almost all the tweaks

RIL: Default for newest CM7 (2.2.018G, Mar 24 2011)
I do not recommend to change RIL. Yes, I know G-RILs aren't listed on official radio thread, but HM aren't supposed to AOSP ROMs... Believe this is what you need.
Recommended radio: None! CM7 team recommends 26.04.02.17 but I'm using 26.09.04.11 with great results. So test yourself.
Battery draining: None! at least with the default apps. 3-4 ma on standby
Thanks to:
- CM7 team
- Lord Clockan
- Paradoxx for black keyboard
- All the authors of the included apk's
- eyesonlybob (for the boot animation)
- LadyOfHats for the emoticons
- H.R.Giger
- Testers!!!
- Donators
- ... lots of people from xda-developers
Instructions:
- Nandroid backup!!!
- Coming from other ROM / CM flavor? Full Wipe using ext4 (recommended, use Full Wipe v1.5 Ext4) or at least format /system + /cache + clean dalvik cache with an ext4 capable recovery.
- Coming from v1.x ? No need to full wipe.
- Flash with ClockworkMod (better with v3.0.2.8 ext4).
- Wait until "Done!"
- Use Advanced -> FIX PERMISSIONS Just in case...
- Reboot!
- Mandatory: Go to settings -> CyanogenMod Settings -> Performance -> CPU Settings -> Max CPU frequency and tune your maximum value
Further steps / recommended extras (work in progress):
- Change number of rows from 4 -> 6 on ADW Settings.
- Boot sounds, backgrounds, AM Splash, etc on AM Public Folder
- If the already included killersloth's PUV script doesn't work for you, grab some other UV script from lordmodue's thread
- If you are in a country where navigation doesn't work within the included Google Maps v5.7.0, you can flash this addon with a "hacked" version of v5.6.0 (not tested).
- Problems getting a GPS fix? Try AngelDeath's instant fix

thx in advance...
Hi would be nice to see some screenshots
Detailed command line scripts included
These are included for reference, they are not needed because there should be entries for GScriptLite
PUV/UNPUV scripts
To get some more battery savings there's a custom puv script (thx to killersloth) included. Works for me and lots of people, but could hang your phone. Just launch Terminal.apk and run:
Code:
su
puv
To remove the undervolting run:
Code:
su
unpuv
* If your phone is hanging then grab this "remove uv" script and flash from recovery.
Custom bootsounds
- Scripts from amazinglarry311, see his thread
- Terminal commands to change / test your own bootsound:
Code:
bootsound - plays current bootsound *required for bootsound to work
enablebootsound - enables bootsound if recovery script fails
bootsoundon - turns bootsound on after being turned off
bootsoundoff - turns bootsound off
newbootsound - /sdcard/android_audio.mp3 is copied as new bootsound
newbootanim /sdcard/bootnanimation.zip is copied as new boot animation
AdBlock management from terminal:
Code:
adblockon - enables custom adblock /etc/hosts file
adblockoff - disables custom adblock /etc/hosts file reverting to default
adblockupd - upgrades /etc/hosts with new entries

I'm sorry that my first post is to say this.
Thanks in advance.

Do manual format from within CWM of /system to ext4, that's my usual way of installing
Takes a while to boot anyway

I'm planning (if it's get some acceptance) to release only tested releases, on a monthly basis. This is my first release, so expect some bugs.
However this one is much more stable than the last 10 cm7 nightbuilds, at least for me.

Install Instructions: Read Carefully.
Flash though CWM
*The CWM that comes from ROM manager seems to have a problem. When Wiping/Factory Resetting CWM freezes at sdcard/.android_secure, then you'd have to pull battery. it may also have a problem Restoring backups, stopping at sdcard/.android_secure. If you used CWM from ROM manager and had No problems then congrats, But i recommend you download the update.zip (i renamed to CWM3XX.zip so it doesnt replace the CWM you already have) i attached to this post incase you run into these problems, then from CWM you can flash the CWM3XX.zip and it will Flash a CWM that has No problems at all, this CWM i got from Krylon360 before it was Added to ROM Manager. it would be smart to keep that on your SD Until this issue is addressed.
Instructions -
- Put zip file in your /sdcard
- Reboot into cwm recovery
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
*Now before you Flash, Only if this is your FIRST time Flashing a Custom ROM otherwise ignore the mounts/unmount part*
MAKE SURE YOUR MOUNTS LOOK LIKE THIS: (Go to mounts and storage from CWM recovery)
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
MOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
- Now its safe to Flash the .zip
after you flash, go back to mounts and storage (before rebooting, AGAIN IGNORE if this isnt your First time) and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
UNMOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
(To First Time installers, System Needs to be set to Unmount, though it would really be mounted. If you do Not do this you will have a softbrick and will have to ODIN to stock and start all over ....)
Download Smooth Maximus ROM X (187.48 MB) >>>>>>>>> Download!!
About the ROM itself..
This ROM is build from the Sidekick 4G KD1/Samsung Galaxy S 4G KD1. Most system apps are from the SGS4G. This Theme is based on a Honeycomb Setting. Though its a combination on Honeycomb 3.0, Xperia Arc and Xperia Play, Sense 3.0, and Galaxy S II. There is A LOT of themed apps inside. Id say pretty much most of them are themed and more to come. The Icons and Menus of Most of the app are bright and colorful. This ROM has a lot of the bloat from Tmobile removed. If You want your battery to be at best on this ROM then don't Flash this ROM on 100% so your battery stats remain correct.
Theme Manager is in this ROM but only the Disguise Theme is Available at the moment..
If you have any force closes/bugs/problems please report them asap.
I have credits to give will update in the morning when finishing OP.
Oh man, the anticipation is killing me!
im fckn excited !!!!!! OH YEAH!!! ;D
And just wanna clarify, we need to flash new CWM file from within current (broken) CWM. right? ...Or just rename to update.zip and put on SD card?
I can't wait until this is uploaded , it sound's amazing really & since it's the first CUSTOM ROM , i am really exicted to see how it is .

Ayo, what's the music player in your notification bar? I would love to have something like that! also, I'm working on a theme of my own from your stock deodex now, if it ever looks half decent I'll add it, but for now, yours beats the crap out of mine. I'll prob use yours when it's done and final.
cool, thanks for the quick response!
...is there ANY CHANCE AT ALL... (Highly doubtful) that we could get the theme manager on stock rom (and possibly still in yours) working with the CM7 theme apks?
Like I said, highly doubtful, but that would be epic win.
jahnbodah: The CM7 Theme manager is dependent on GingerBread, so until we have a gingerbread port, we can't use it.

its a Modded MusicMod music player based on the aosp froyo google android music player. Only this one is modded to work with the lockscreen and in notification bar.
And The theme and ROM is complete. But I Wont say the ROM is final unless you guys agree on that so there might be minor updates. This is just the first release so i can get feedback and see what you guys think.

It downloaded in 10 minutes
"Gapps already included so no need to download them"
I somewhat question the legality of this but I don't really care.
Thanks for bringing the op over here, it is a good ROM, but the dev kindof made it and then disappeared.
Also the date is wrong in the title: says 8/6/2012
INCEPTION

Thanks, indeed it is working very good for me. No bugs yet. I'll PM anything that comes up during the day. Thanks man!
If I can get specific instances of bugs I'm willing to help work them out and maybe put out some patches for this, if the ROM gathers any popularity. I'd say it's really good though for stability already.
-facepalm- I didn't even notice the date thing, it doesn't really matter, just a bit confusing -facepalm-
robb13 - please post any bugs So I can see them too.

Awesome ROM I've been on AR-Revolver-Megatron-Gummy and this is by far the best I've tried
NO BUGS YET!!! 100% working dock!!
wow that looks so beautiful
gonna try now
thanks for posting
Very fast and great looking! I haven't flashed Harmony yet but I'm sure it would provide a good experience as well. I'll run this through the gambit tomorrow and see about its stability
Flashed this from ARHD and noticed the following:
1. Exchange email app not included
2. Using Harmony rev3 kernel, tablet doesn't go to deep sleep and stays at 312 mHz as per cpuspy.
3. It goes to deep sleep when using Guevor's aokp kernel.
So far no bugs encountered. Will keep on observing.
Thanks for this great ROM.
After flashing this rom, my TF101 just stuck at the boot screen. What did I do wrong?
Full wipe before flashing?
It takes a few seconds for the boot animation to kick in......try again and leave it or eedownload the file as it could be a bad download.

Best ROM to date
I'm so glad to see the OP answering questions in the thread. I can report after a full day of use that my TF101 is better than ever.

ChangeLog ErykineMT7
1.1.0:
Fixed settings LTE selection (maybe you have to delete settings data or Wipe data/factory to bring it back with 1.1.0)
Re.edit animations for smooth sense between apps
Changed dpi by default to 440 (it requires a reboot after 20 min first boot). To go back to 480 dpi, edit with some editor /system/build.prop to 480dpi, select 480dpi theme and reboot
New theme Aurora created by me and based on other ones (thanks a busywait, Mix_BbN, iconfans, 胡博文, fooox3 and maybe more people I forget now), edited things on theme that don't fit, or don't like.
Edited nav bar theme images to 440dpi
Modded lowmemorykiller settings to leave a bit more free ram
Modified CPU and governor settings to get some more performance when screen is on.
Enabled 8 cores with screen on and only 4 with screen off (battery saving with screen off)
Try to fix dualsim settings to make it working on MT7-L10, but the most probably is dualsim not working on L10, only 1 sim as the base is for L09.
Droping cachés+more free ram with screen off.
Changed I/O scheduler to deadline and tweaked to performance.
Modified appdrawer box with more apps to 440dpi
Zipalign

Any known issues?
I am just about to go and buy this phone (currently $450 AUD from **** Smith) and I'm glad to see some development happening. Just so I understand this ROM properly, can you confirm that it is still running the EMUI skin, just with a few tweaks, some apps added, some removed and an app drawer added?
Cheers!
thanks
is this rom support 2 sims with swapping 4G option between sims
is this rom support call record

Thanks, I'm very happy to see a custom rom that isn't from china!
Please tell me, is the cutomizing app from KingVIP included? It is very handy for changing the battery icon and customizing the softbuttons.

Haven't tried dual sim as the european version doesn't have it, maybe it works, but I don't know. No call record support for now, maybe u can add that feature (if its an apk) adding it from other rom
Thanx Neo, I bought the phone this afternoon and just going through unlocking the bootloader and rooting. I'll give this ROM a try. Just out of curiosity, have you changed the DPI settings? This made a huge difference to my Nexus 7 and would probably help this phone too.
Cheers

Not customizations added from kang, only some cust folders to make it boot properly with theme. You can just add kang apks included in /system/framework and see if it's working

Dpi isn't changed, you can change it at build.prop before installation opening my rom zip /system/build.prop
Good to see someone working on a custom rom for Mate 7!
I'm donwloading now, and will flash it today.
After the first two hours with this rom:
- VERY fast and very snappy
- fastest reboot of all roms
- fast and stable 4g in germany (telekom)
- the fingerprint sensor seems a little bit better than in KingVIPs custom rom
My wishes for the next version:
- 3 ways reboot
- option to disable carrier name in navigaton bar
- custom battery icons
I hope you enjoy your beer. Sorry for the littel amount but I'm broke
Xposed and gravity mod should fix all your above gripes.

I've already tried that. GravityBox isn't really working with huawei roms.
Thanx for your work! For next Rom i wish some optical tweaks like Kangvip, center clock, other battery symbol, disable carrier etc. And please, make ext. SD card writeable, ok its simple to use SD card fix from market, but build in your rom, spend time
Edit: I think there was in little bug in mobile setting, i have no LTE entry there are only 3 point , see the screenshot. But LTE was active.
But when i swtich one time to another setting like WCDMA/GSN auto, i cant switch back to LTE because there is no point LTE.
I mus use an App to switch back to LTE.
Already try dual SIM selecter it no work 。。。。。
I have flashed this ROM now, just a quick question? There doesn't seem to be any way to remove app shortcuts from the launcher without deleting (re-uninstall) them. The app drawer seems a bit superfluous if I still have to have all my apps on the home screens. Am I missing something?
Cheers!
