Using gimp on boot animation? - Droid Incredible Themes and Apps

Can I create a background image and then overlay an image ontop with gimp? I took the gingerbread boot animation floating around here and modded it to work on miui incredible. The only problem is leaving the pixel size the same (480 410) gives it a thin yellow line above the image. The only way to get rid of it is to stretch the image to fill the height of the screen. It looks unprofessional when stretched. Any suggestions? If I edit the image the way I was thinking, I'll have to edit each from which will be very time consuming.

Yes you can. Just drop the layer (original image) on top of the background and then merge down and save it. Actually, just saving it and taking the export option should do it also. As long as it ends up as one layer and not indexed you are fine

Thanks for a speedy response. I will try it when I get home today!

easier way of making bootscreen??

Ok so im porting over some bootscreens and im using photoshop cs4. i was shown how to do this by a friend using layers and copying and pasting the png's into each layer. Im looking for an easier way of doing this cause there are over 300 png's to be put into layers. is there an easier way or not? If so then please post a link explaining how or explain yourself thanks
Download a program like PS called Gimp. You can open the a folder as layers. So as long as the are in saved in consecutive ending numbers ie 1, 2, 3 it will put them in the correct order and all you have to do is save it as an animation and you are good to go.

yeah i figured that out after i posted but im having a problem cause its over 300 png's and when i save it as an animation it doesnt show all the layers or the colors. its all in black and white and looks horrible.
Okay. Start fresh. Open all the pngs in Gimp. If you did anything other than crop in PS it will not play nice. And I hope you have lots of RAM. Make sure you saved as indexed and 256 colors.
Or post the gif and I will fix it.

I got it. So go ahead.
Do you have Google Talk logged in? [email protected] So, I can ask a question.
Is the one red png in the folder by itself the last frame?
I will work on this tomorrow at the office. My computer there has more RAM. My laptop just won't handle it.

Hey sorry got late and passes out. I do have Google talk. Under cbarlan. And yes that is final frame for loading.
if you're coming up black and white for the gif in gimp, you have to change it to rgb then save as animation, then it will ask to index the colors, and give you option of gray scale or color

Can I change it to rgb after gimp layers all the pngs or do I have to change each PNG before I layer them. Only asking cause there are a bunch of pngs. Like 330 of them.
you apply it once all layers are loaded. It does all at once. You can do this with color type, scaling size, and changing hue. Great for theming

Okay. Well, I finished your bootscreen. It's booting and playing. I will email you the zip. Let me know if any problems.

Problems with cm6 wallpaper

What issue up with the wallpaper in cm6. If I load a wallpaper from an app it is perfect. But in gallery3d and 2d it just gives a tiny little box to assign. Then you have a zoomed on section of the wallpaper. Which looks like crap. Yes the pictures are the right size and I have used many of them thru multiple roms with no issues.

ya I know what u mean ... I was noticing that the other day ....
do you know of a app that u can load ur own wallpapers in and then apply them that works properly? I don't mind using a app, I just want my wallpapers to display properly lol.

Haha okay this is just funny ... you drag the corners of the box to expand it. Its a cropping tool. You can expand it to full size, just press, hold, and drag.

oh I didn't know he was talking about that ....
I was referring to a one screen wallpaper. If I have the background set to not scroll in LP and I try adding a wallpaper that is 320x480 (which should be the size for a single screen) it is all stretched and weird looking. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this .... Ill have to test it out some more.
Omg lol
I tried moving it with the pinch zoom. I didn't realize you had to tap it to start the moveing of it. Rhbx alot.

I can only choose, at most, half of the wallpaper. Once you have dragged to the sides, thats it. You cannot sellected the entire photo for the background

The selection is based on the dimensions of the picture provided. It will keep the scale of the background because it doesn't contort the image to fit all dimensions. Using portrait photographs and such isn't very good for backgrounds for this reason.

Same prob w/ my N1 and CM. I'm not using a portrait photograph, using a vertical one that when I view the pic on my screen, it fills the screen perfectly in the correct resolution, but when I try and set it as a wallpaper, the cropping tool is a square, instead of a vertical rectangle as it should be, so I can only get part of the picture in the cropping square, and then it blows that up and distorts it...
Some pictures cant be allotted to the correct size it makes you crop, however.
Pictures taken from the phones camera won't crop and display correctly for me at times. I generally just download stuff thats already at the right resolution though

I ended up buying Wallpaper Plus (since I usually make my own wallpapers) off the market and got my desired results. Seems to be the only way to get that to happen... Weird problem, wouldn't think it would exist...
You can also use a live wallpaper called multpicture to select either one picture or a folder to show fullscreen. Mp is free on the market

Setting a new Wallpaper

Why is it I can only use part of the photo that I want to make a wallpaper? It gets all stretched out. (this is when I try to set it from the phone itself)
If I use that background app it sets the whole photo as a background, not just a square section of it!
Any tips?

Because you're not dragging the box to the edges so your image is being cropped.
But I have no choice but to crop it! I can't use the whole photo!

Are the images you're trying to use 960x854?
They are images either taken with the vignette or the stock camera app, OR downloaded images.
So they have to be exact size??

Yes. 960x854
Ok thanks.
I came from a blackberry. I'm used to setting photos I'd taken as my wallpaper..
I found an app called AutomaticSettingWallpaper.
When you find the image you want, press share, then select this app (once installed) from the list.
It will set the whole image as wallpaper!
I was sceptical at first, but was amazed when it worked timafter time!

Hi - the images don't have to be 960 x 854, although that is the ideal resolution... however, if you want to use the whole image then they do have to have it at the exact same aspect ratio as a 960 x 854 image.
Thanks, twentybenson! This has been bugging me for a looong time!
Glad to have helped!

AutomaticSettingWallpaper owns that is the best app ever.

[Q] I need wallpaper help

I went to wallpapercasa.com and picked up some sweet wallpapers for the Xooms screen size. I'm trying to assign it but I get to the screen where you have to adjust it. I want to put the whole wallpaper and not adjustor's because it gets cut off. What do I do?
Can someone give me the directoryof the stock wallpapers? Maybe I can just throw them in there and be done with.
Thers s an app on the market called wallpaper slide show it displays the whole wallpaper but if you just want one photo put it on a different folder
sent from my Motorola XOOM
I poked around a bit and couldn't find them.
I guess its possible they're actually inside framework-res.apk
I didn't see a com.htc.resources.apk like we've seen in the phones.
Look up "wallpaper wizadrii" in the market.

That app didn't work. It didn't fit the wallpaper to my screen. I downloaded the wallpaper image for our Xoom's screen size.
When I set it with that app I chose no crop and it came out small.
Wizardrii works perfectly for phones...i havent had success with it on my Xoom either....force closes

Why couldn't they make it simple. As long as you download the correct resolution they'd allow to set the whole pictiee. The cropper sucks brass balls.

There's a template that you can use as a ref. point on how the wallpaper actually looks when using on the XOOM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993596&highlight=wallpaper
Pretty much you have 5 regions. Center region that shows when you're on the center of the screen. The left region that slowly shows when scrolling to the left of the center region. The right region that slowly shows when scrolling to the right of the center region. The bottom region that shows when you open the widgets' menu. And the top region that only shows when you open the apps menu.
If the wallpaper was specify designed for the XOOM, then it'll come out looking bad.
use wallpaper slide show. Works great

[Q] Annoying wallpaper settings

So in Jelly Bean, the option to crop when setting a wallpaper is becoming a breaking point for me. I can never get the entire parts of the wallpapers I want to use, as it will let me crop mostly only a third of the whole picture! Is there a way around the cropping process so that I can set the picture directly to my wallpaper? I will provide a screenshot of what I'm talking about to help. Currently running Slim Bean ROM v3.0.0

I noticed the same thing about my G3 and realized that its just ICE or even the Samsung firmware, of course you're obviously limited as to the size of image you can use but there is a way around this . I installed a new launcher( Next launcher) that gave me scrollable wallpapers but I still had the cropping issue. The next step was installing Quick Pic , it overrides the crop and you can scroll the image .
I hope that helps a little

I asked for answers, not petty remarks.
There are multiple apps in the play store that will not crop pics but if the pic has a small or a wide resolution obviously you wont fit it all on your screen. I use this app personally https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5qcGN4Yy53YWxscGFwZXIiXQ..
I have always used 'wallpaper wizardii' to set pics as exact and not cropped. I think all this stems from old phones that didn't have scrolling screens. We all(those of us old enough) got used to seeing the whole picture that we chose. With scrolling screens the software wants to expand the image.
