Need your opinion Again - General Topics

Hello,
I thought posting it here would offer non biased opinions by people, since I'm going be asking that I'm trying to decide between galaxy tab or DHD or nexus s. I'm having a hard time deciding, i love htc devices but sammy's tab and nexus s seem very good also. So, I'm looking for your opinion on this, I know the specs of each device.

Wait either a tablet or a phone? Are you planning on using the tablet as a phone or would you have a regular one for use?
Also, I would say to wait because of all of the new phones just announced at CES and with MWC right around the corner, amazing things are going to be happening very, very soon.
But to answer your question now, what are you going to mostly use it for? Are you planning on hacking or... ?

Hi,
Google Nexus uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS but Samsung and DHD are using older version. The processor speed of Desire HD is much better. DHD has 8MP camera and other are using 5MP. Comparatively, I recommend DHD tablet.

So, I end up getting the sammy tab. The 7inch screen would be awesome to watch stuff on and it owns the ifail(ipad) in all ways.

Well im glad you like it, but FWIW, the ipad os the best tablet out right now.
It isn't just selling because it was made by apple; I have one myself and I love it to death for what it does.

Galaxy S or Nexus One?

hello
i want an new smartphone but dont know wich one,
the galaxy s or the nexus one?
the samsung support is very bad and i dont know if the galaxy s gets more android updates
can someone help my with my choise
Nexus one that phone never stops to amaze me. The way its built just leaves room for lots of hacking love.

Don't know much about the Galaxy other than I like the name
I can say the Nexus rocks...check out what great developement has been done for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=559
Definitely the Samsung Galaxy S. If you root your phone you don't have to worry about having to wait for Samsung to update your device. It is better than the Nexus One in terms of hardware performance, and its screen is a beauty.
Until Swype comes out on all andriod, Galaxy S at least have one feature that definitely wins N1.

I'm sure the N1 can use Swype too, and if not, don't expect it to be without Swype for long. And even if it doesn't you can substitute with Shapewriter for now.
This whole thread can really be discarded. Just take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S vs HTC Desire thread... because the N1 and the Desire are almost the same device!

hmm ok thanks evryone for the information
I think i choose the nexus one
because it will get more update's of android
you guys think this is an good choise?

deciding to get android device on at&t...

im on my iphone 2g and had a tilt 2 running android 2.1 (sadly my tilt 2 fell in water and stopped working 2 months later) and been wanting to switch to an android device on at&t. my only options to consider is the captivate or nexus one (if i can find one to buy lol ). ill be honest.... ive been following any captivate threads and seeing how to root and and getting general information on android and its language. i started reading upon nexus one threads on here and on phandroid and well i got very confused on reading about rooting and how to add custom ROMs and all of its vocabulary. these n1 threads have been going on for a while and i feel like im very lost reading upon it and cant find a thread to start to get familiarized i love the specs on the nexus one and well NO one i know has one and would like to get one and customize it to the fullest. the captivate looks good but the specs compared to the nexus one.... im leaning more to the nexus one. would u say i should get an n1? any suggestions is greatly appreciated
what specs are interesting you more in the Nexus One?

well for one google gets updates on android sooner than any other android devices on at&t right? froyo is available as a cooked ROM. froyo wont be available till who knows when wit the captivate. no cooked ROMs yet for captivate. FLASH on the cam! lol. thats one of my biggest downsides on the captivate. seems like the nexus one is top notch android compared to captivate. captivate seems just like a brand new android device for devs to tinker with since its new. it also has amoled huge screen. im not really fond of touch wiz but can be easily replaced. and also the fact no one i know has a nexus one. i haven't really compared side by side of the captivate and nexus one but in my opinion nexus one has better specs.

What do you think is the Best Android phone?

Hello all, I'm starting this to get opinions of what people think is the best android phone and the reasons they think it's the best. I'm looking to get a new phone and would like other peoples input on what phone is best, since there are a lot of options available. I know everything is an opinion when it comes to a phone. Just say what you think the biggest pros are and the biggest cons are. Admin, If I started this thread in the wrong place apologize!
I've had 3 android phones, all with t mobile. The G1, nexus one and the samsung galaxy s(vibrant). I still have all of them!
Now in my opinion the nexus one has been the best for installing modified ROM'S, With the least amount of issues and ease of unlocking with all hardware working. The downside is the screen size and the flipping power button keeps breaking!
Now my second option is the samsung galaxy s. I like the dimensions of the phone and the screen size is awesome. But with modified kernels and a crappy GPS antenna you still have GPS issues.
So come one come all, leave your input let's see what phone you think is the best on the market today!

specially the SGS2 HD version
The Galaxy Nexus.
HTC Wildfire S
I was also thinking on the same lines... tho I think people should be careful as to what their suggesting... I don't think this thread is based on "what phone do you own, hence think is the best "... because I'm sure as **** the Wildfire S is by far not even close to the best android... maybe the best cheap android phone... but definately not the best...
If you think a phone is the best... then why do you think so... you need to have a valid reason...
As far as I'm concerned I want to change phones as well... at the moment the S2 seems to be at the top of the hill... I was sure I would get the galaxy nexus but after seeing the utterly disappointing specs... a crappy camera, no expandable memory, and a TI processor rather than a exenos is just a major letdown...
Tho in the upcoming phones seems the Droid Razr is supposed to be a beast and the S2 HD seems to be awesome... but iit looks like will need to wait a while for them... not to.mention the s2 HD will only be released in Korea...??? :s
Its actually quite strange phones are getting bigger and bigger... they just wont seem to fit in pockets soon... I thought a 4 inch screen is perfect... tho 4.2 is really pushing it... but 4.6... I'm not really into wearing clothes twice my size to be able to fit my damn phone in my pocket
What does anyone suggest based on facts... wait for the nexus... or the S2 HD... or just go for the S2...

I've favored HTC phones. I've personally owned the Droid Inc, Inc2, and the moto Droid. I've had my hands on quite a few different ones. I think the Inc Is my favorite . Samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.
XDA App. DInc 2 PoWeReD
Best android phone ever? As an early adopter I'd say the g1, that thing was supported for a looooong time given the average lifespan of android phones, the form factor, while thick, is still one of the coolest to date with android, and I believe you could get it all the way to gingerbread despite being a severely dated device. Next to the HD2 it is my favorite tinkering phone. The best right now, likely the gs2, I don't have much love for the current devices but the hardware on the razr is looking pretty sexy. I have a thing for thin phones. That's why my next device will be a Nokia 800 but that's a story for another thread.
Tl;dr? G1, GS2, razr droid.
For someone like you just get a Galaxy S ii and call it a day.

I think Galaxy S II, yup! Me too, samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.

I think the OP was leaning more towards phones that are available now. Obviously, the way technology and competition works, the best phone will be the one not released yet...
Samsung Galaxy S II
Incredible 2
I know it is only single core phone and doesn't have 4G, but it is a great phone.
good size, verizon, international, supported by cm7

Galaxy Nexus easy.... duh.... haha
Please thank me if I helped.
well it depends upon what specs you want to have(and brag about).
IMO, there's no such thing as 'best Android phone' because having the 'best' phone is always subjective.
If you want the highest specs on a phone, you can look at the flagship phones.
If you want to be unique, choose a less well-known brand.
If you want to customise, there's plenty.
If you want to have a good-looking UI, SE arc or ray would do
mine.

New phone after Desire S

Hi all,
My father got my Desire for quite some time now and he's very happy with it. But now he is possible to extend his contract and want a new phone with it.
But there is one problem: he doesnt want a larger screen but he also wants a "better" phone. I cant remember any phone with better specs then the Desire S with this screen size, does anyone of you guys know what could be the best phone for him?
The Galaxy Nexus is too big for him but i said its a good one, but he thinks its too big
Can anyone advice me to advice him ?
Thanks in advance!
Greet Patrick

Tell him to hang on. There's no point him upgrading now. The Desire S IS approaching a year old now.
Just wait till Feb, at MWC, and the successor to the Desire S may he likely to come out.
IMO, its not much of a significant upgrade from the Desire
What is he finding wrong with it? What parts font satisfy him?
Perhaps you could introduce him to the rooting/custom ROM world, and it will improve his experience on his Desire while he still currently owns it
Hopefully that will keep him happy for a few months before upgrading

Nice answer! Thx for ur advice. He is running the virtous unity rom atm so he is already running a custom rom.
Actually there is nothing that he isnt satisfied about. But now he can upgrade his contract and was curious for a new phone.
Maybe he can get a new phone for my mom, who got the original Desire now she finds that one a little bit too slow so what could be a good upgrade for her?
Anyway i will tell my dad to keep his Desire S for quite some time
Thx for ur nice advice!

Yeah
or why don't he put the contract money towards a new android tablet?
they are suprisingly useful!

that is a really nice idea! I got a ASUS Transformer and he likes it
Maybe he wants to have one too!
But there is maybe one problem. Is it possible to get a Tab instead of a Phone with a Phone contract? (in The Netherlands) I've never seen that, so that's the question if its possible :O
It would be very nice for him!
If the possibilities are there I think i would advice him the 8,9 Tab of Samsung, what do you think?
I guess the Transformer Prime is a bit overkill for him (+ i will get jealous on him :$)
Thanks for your answer again, you are really helpful man!
Greets Patrick
No problem mate
I'm glad to help people as long as they show the appreciation like you do
Yeah, there are several great Android Tablets in the market At the moment.
I can't comment on the new 8.9 Galaxy Tab.
I currently have the old 7" Galaxy Tab. And it can make phone calls.
However. There is now a newer 7.0 plus galaxy tab (can make calls too) and has similoar top end specs as your transformer (dual core etc)
Perhaps you could consider that?
Or even the newer 7.7" galaxy tan which may be released some time soon!

I got that one, but the problem is that my dad doesn't want a bigger phone. Well not big like the SII.
Thats why i am trying to get some more info about other phones with almost the same size as the Desire S.
If he didn't care about a bigger phone, i would suggest him the Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SII idd.
Thanx anyway for your input.
HTC EVO 3d??
If you want to stick with HTC (or Samsung), then maybe you'd want to wait until MWC at the end of Feb. Both company didn't announce any new phones at CES.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed at that. All HTC banged on about was the Titan 2, which is a Windows Mobile phone (washes mouth out with soap).
Not sure what my next one will be. Starting to loose faith in HTC (from a build quality and support point of view) and see no real need for dual/quad cores at all yet. Still haven't found the limits of my single core DS. I don't do any HD gaming. Have Xbox for that.
Now that Google own Motorola, will be interesting to see if the next Nexus is in their camp. As long as there are no silly locked down bootloaders that is.
For the first time I can remember, there are no devices on the horizon that are making me start thinking about saving up for an upgrade. Long live the DS!

Not only that, the Titan isnt worthty of '2'.
Its EXACTLY the same, except the '2' has a 16mp camera, and the original only 8mp.
IMO. I think HTC are cheaping out, with support and hardware
That's why they lost profits last Q4

HTC is too busy unlocking bootloaders.
Sony Xperia S looks pretty though.
galaxy nexus too big ? maybe... try to convince him ;-)

Which phone would you choose in this position?

Hello, I am new to this forum but I do already have a android phone which is the samsung vibrant, and I am thinking that it is time to switch, after Samsung left me and the other vibrant owners behind I decided to get a new phone, I have done some studying on this so far and found the Galaxy Nexus from the Google Play Store for $350, this is a really good price for what I want to pay, but also there is another phone called the HTC One S and I am able to get the HTC One S in the same price range, I am not sure which cellphone I should choose between these two, I would like to know which phone that you would choose in my position. The Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ or the HTC One S, and also if there are any other android phones that are even than these two I have listed with good specifications It would be very much appreciated if you could share it too.
Thank You.
A lot of it depends on preference. The nexus is stock android and will get updates faster than any other phone. And it's great if your going to be installing custom roms. The HTC has sense on top of android which some people like and some people don't. The Samsung galaxy s3 is also available with their touchwiz software and that has solid specs as well.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Between those two I'd definitely get the Nexus. Far easier to customize and definitely not a phone that will be getting left behind on updates.
If you are fan of HTC 's sense then go for one s.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
The one s is a good phone, so is the nexus and one s. The g note seems good too, but not everyone has abandoned the vibrant, I have one running on jellybean because of the awesome dev community. Anyway good luck.
Sent from Mount Olympus via Hermes
I love my gnex and I chose it over the SIII because of google support ! I will only buy nexus devices from now on; I've always had Samsung devices, but didn't like touchwiz, and the fact that I had to wait 8 months to get ics on my tablet, and even now the ui is still laggy in some situation.
That made loose faith in manifacturers, but I've never owned a HTC device to be honest.
I like android and I like it pure, but that's just my opinion anyway.
It really depends on what you plan to do with the device. If you plan to install ROM's, there is plenty of dev work going on around the One S. While it isn't as much as the Nexus, it is still impressive. The camera on the One S is surely better. If you want to stick the the OS that comes pre-loaded, it depends on what your preference is. Do you like the stock Android feel or prefer Sense ? Answer those questions and you will know which cell to buy. :good:
As somebody else advised me, the only selling point of the nexus is the fact that they recieve updates faster. And with xda updates are never a problem. The htc one s is renowned for it s build quality. I would advise you to get that one.
Nexus has bigger screen with more pixels, one x space is taken by permanent hardware buttons. I love soft-buttons for their moddability, though this depends on your tastes of course.
Nexus likely has more deving in general, as a rule.
Normally I would suggest waiting for new stuff, as it seems we're on the cusp, but you want this price point so.
Thank You all for responding, I am leaning more towards the nexus because I really do like to receive updates right away I like to keep my phone on stock but have never tried a ROM, I would probably try a ROM later but the one s has a sleek and nice slim design which really interests me, I am not sure about HTC Sense because I have never used it, but maybe it will be sort of the same as touchwiz as I am used to that. I also might just wait till November since I hear a new galaxy nexus is coming out, maybe even some more phones in that time, Thanks again for the help!
Nexus in my opinion mostly because I prefer the look and feel of the device but the updates will come pretty quick from google and the developers for the nexus phones are great.
have always been a fan of HTC phones until they released the EVO LTE on sprint with a non-removable battery. Not sure if the One S has a removable battery or not, but for me that is a deal breaker. Have also heard really good things about the Nexus. Also like others have said, you will get updates and more customization on the nexus.
I would choose Galaxy nexus becouse it has 4.3 inch display.
Well the nexus has that stock android feel and the one s has the sense ui its all up to preference
