Let me say real quick that I apologize that I haven't been very active on the forums for the last week or so. I've been doing a ton of work on the kitchen and also have been having major internet problems. But I am around!
(copy/paste from the 0.1 release because I think some people still may be new to the term kitchen)
But what is a (pre-)kitchen you ask? A kitchen is a program that allows you to take a base of a rom and basically build it how you want it so that you get a nice custom rom suited to you. Well this application isn’t quite there yet which is why I am calling it a pre-kitchen, making it version 0.1, and labeling it a beta. This is a work in progress… a proof of concept. It is taking all of the individual things that make a kitchen and building them one piece at a time, until finally we have a full working visual kitchen for Android!
This is a public beta. There will be bugs. There will be problems. Please come report them so that I can track issues but don’t come here complaining that it just doesn’t work and is crap. Nothing that this program does should cause any real damage to your phone (like brick it) however it is beta so use it safely. If you are reporting an issue then please tell me what happened, what OS you are running, what you were trying to do, and any error codes you may have. This is a windows only application.

[*] 01/08/10 - A bug was found in the auto-rooter that prevents it from working. If you plan to use the auto-rooter then you need to download 0.2 and then also get the fix here. If you are not using the auto-rooter then you're fine.

Modified: Heavily modified code throughout the entire application to allow it to run faster and more accurately. This is the biggest part of the 0.2 release. These changes are reflected through every single utility in the kitchen, including the auto-rooter.
Modified: Changed a number of the message box pop-ups to only show the first time you use that utility and then not again.
Fixed: Backup and delete texts was not pulling to \backup\ folder
Fixed: Backup and delete dictionary was not pulling to \backup\ folder
Removed: Clear theme (I like this theme but it was 15mb… way too big to be included as an example)

This is amazing. Quick question, what does the "with Google" check box have to do anything? I'm guessing you mean on the back of the phone where it literally says "with Google" But don't all the CDMA phones say that?

This may be irrelevant at this point, but to answer ebaDamagePlan, not all of them say with Google. The very first ones to be available don't say it (like mine).

Can you tell me what happens when you try and do it?
Also if you can give me the contents of this file, it will help:
\folder-where-you-extracted-the-kitchen\adb\restoremakebackup-debug.txt
As a side note, I need to fix that file name as it should only say makebackup-debug.txt. ha

I too, am having trouble making a nandroid backup. The phone never boots into recovery mode, it just gets stuck on the boot screen with the exclamation point.

Requires dot net framework in windows xp. not sure what gets installed on vista and 7 but im sure you'll need it too if you don't allready have it. get it here . . .

You don't have RA / nandroid installed yet, that's why. You need to root your phone first. You can try using the auto rooter.

You would have it already if you were doing your windows updates. But yes, it does require .net 3.5 which is included in vista and 7 already. Thanks for posting that.

So that shows it extracted the theme, but when it went to transfer it to the phone it couldn't read the file from your computer. I had to really fight this issue with the debugger too. Every action in the kitchen creates a debug file and a handful of beta tester's comps would lock that file and crash the app when it tried to read it. I was never able to figure out why some computers caused it though.
Can you tell me what OS you were on? If it's Vista or 7, did it prompt UAC when you opened the kitchen?

Im running XP Home sp3 (no UAC). It didn't crash the app. i was able to exit the app normally. and restart the app normally. Only side affect was that the first time it happend it put my phone into a boot loop. I rebooted my pc and reflashed your 1.0 rom and tried to install the theme again. this time it didn't boot past the htc screen. i got the same error in the app and was able to exit it normally.

[GT-i9003] [HOWTO] Root Samsung Galaxy SL

Hello Guys since there is no seperate forum for I9003 I am posting it here.
1- Make sure Drivers are Installed for I9003 (Download and install Samsung Kies from samsung website)
2-In Settings--Wireless & Networks--USB setting--select Ask On Connection
3-CHECK USB debugging mode in settings---applications--Development

Just plug in the device with your computer, launch Superoneclick, Click "root" tab and Its Done!!

Yes it does void warranty. but once you unroot using superoneclick or flash a Stock rom available on samfirmware.com for i9003 u will have ur warranty back.
Yes, u can flash cooked rom..but therz no cooked rom for the device from any developer yet. Roms of other galaxy S series model wont work nd can brick ur device. Further, there is no custom recovery for I9003 model from any dev yet..so u justhave to wait untill sumone comes out with a recovery

Sounds great except for screen shot utility as of now I dont have any other use of rooting the phone.
Native froyo 2.2.1 screenshot method available in I9003 does not work in some apps.

What is the 1st thing you do after rooting, I installed shootme & titanium backup, thats all as of now. I9003 does not have any custom roms to play with as yet.

what type of error you have got
1. install the samsung usb drivers
2. connect your phone in usb debugging mode (do not mount your sd card)
3. start super1click application and click on root option it wil root your phone

hi answer to your qt i found it more stable as i was having a slowdown problem with the XXKA version. but as u asked i not tried Tv-out function yet but all in all smooth rom however having said that i still see lot of battery problem with the current and default Rom, waiting for somebody to do a custom rom
by the way without legfix 9003 give better result then 9000 in all benchmark tools something we can be happy abt

About to root my HTC Inspire!

When I started out I read alot of posts. The best advice was to try them all. If you like the sense version coredroid is good,but I tend to like the ones without. cynagen mod is really clean, but miui is great if you like the ios look.

Just FYI, if you go with Inspired Ace, and typically use the lock screen media controls, don't choose the AOSP lockscreen.

What are the advantages of that over the CM7 on which it seems to be based?

I would tell you all how it went, but I got a new computer yesterday, and it had Vista with no service pack... This could take a while to update...

Should have been <10 minutes (maybe 15... tops) Have you read that thread? There are several solutions for this issue.

I've read through pages of it, but it is currently at 324 pages, so yeah... I just downloaded what I think it the stock/modded rom and loaded it through the bootloader. We will see if this works.

Did you already get the downgraded ROM and run the exploit?
If not, then the modded stock rom won't do you any good.

Okay, I think I did it. Now I just have to flash the clockwork thing and then load Gingerbeast. Thanks!

Looks like .NET Framework 4.5 isnt installed. Those are C# errors.

Yup just saw this in your post:

OP UPDATED: Two links for .NET Framework 4.5 First link WHICH I RECOMMEND is Microsoft's direct link to their installer. Second link is an offline installer from microsoft.

Definitely an issue with .NET Framework.,I would recommend downloading it again and installing it as well as running Windows update.

I'm afraid that made no difference. Perhaps I have *too many* .net packages installed? I have 2.0 SP2, 3.5, 4 and 4.5

And i need to update my other thread but these tools are written in C#, meaning .NET framework is required. And since i am developing on a windows 7 machine with .NET Framework 4.5 installed, it automatically sets the minimum framework to 4.5. If its an issue for anyone. i can change it to no latter than .NET 3.5 as if i go older i will need to change the code for certain apis arent available in older versions.

You didn't know having too many things installed in Windows can cause problems? Really? hehe.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to pass on your tool though, if the solution is to delete all versions of .net and only install 4.5. I have way too many *other* apps on my workstation that depend on the other versions of .net.

But that's the thing, my machine only has. Net 4.5, things that are built on. Net 1.1 will still work with. Net 4.5. That's why I was puzzled that it had multiple versions on, how did you install them? I'm guessing they were bad installs.

nah, actually I have had several games where i have specifically needed to install older versions of .net to work... that said, i vaguely remember that .net 1.1 and maybe the next one were for OLD windows... I know i cant modify my .net 1.1 on my windows 7 machine
usually ppl using hacked versions of XP end up with issues with .net

no i think this is a fault with the program not checking the directory!
if there is a space in the command that it feeds to backsmali, there will be a directory not found error
ie C:\Users\Hics\GUI Smali Tool\finished wil say that it can't find C:\Users\Hics\GUI
try APK to Java and see if you get the same error: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910873
it's not based on the windows 8 .net framework so if you still get an error then its not .net
