[Q] about unrooting and updating OTA - General Questions and Answers

will updating OTA from a rooted phone will unroot my phone automatically ?if yes will it delete everything ?
now i have stock 2.1 update 1 and root and want to update to official 2.2.1 ota

Official updates will usually unroot you but you won't lose any of your apps or data.
If you want to root again after the update you can, but SuperOneClick seems to be the only 1-click method that works on 2.2.1.

i know unrooting is possible with RUU but i dont know if it is possible with update OTA , so will updating OTA will unroot my phone ?

aha thx ,i dont know if superoneclick roots the wildfire at 2.2.1,only for the other phones

I recently rooted my phone and everything was working as planned until the latest OTA update installed on my phone. Is there any way to root the new FRG83D update? I hope so.....

so the new ota update is out
my s3 has stock ics and doesnt have the bootloader unlocked, it does have root access
now I assume from other people posting the update does break root acces
so if I update can I just reroot with this and everything will be fine?

as the title says i recently updated to 5.1.1 and cant reroot, ive tried getting super su beta etc one click roots etc towel root and stump root and nothing seems to want to root it meaning im stuck rootless, anyone in the same boat ?

Try to Downgrade to 5.0.1 then root it
. . . really... its the gflex 2 why would you want to stay on 5.0.1 im not going to downgrade to an inferior version to root it theres no way to keep the root and upgrade cause vodafone patched the hole, im hoping someone can find another exploit

Downgrade it now untill root realese , how can use it without root even its slow but rooted !
i think you can not doengrade it now because the baseband change , just try and let me know
id rather wait for root on 5.1.1...def not worth going back with this phone...world of a difference with the update

OTA Root Keeper

Hi all.I have a problem.I rooted my phone and I have a systeö update by google.But After every installed update I see that update message again.I installed voodo Ota root keeper but it is not working.Can anyone help me ? Is there another way ?

I dont think you can upgrade while rooted.
Ohh I see. I was under the impression that it was possible, but depending on what the update was updating you could or perhaps wouldn't lose root
You can't update while rooted through OTA.
Besto option is to use a pre-rooted firmware.
