New Froyo Update for Facinate - General Topics

Sorry i have less than 10 posts so i could not post on the developers forums. I wanted to know how to flash this rom on the facinate. I have a Droid 1 and Droid x and use Clockworks to do the flashing when needed..
My brother in law has the Facinate and i wanted to install it on his phone, but im not familiar with the facinate. Any tips would be great, thanks.
P.S should I wipe data &cache?

Hey, lol Same here. I can't post in the Dev forum either.
All you need to do is to wipe cache, remove any voodoo and flash. Its an update, so you don't need to erase any of your apps. You really don't even need to wipe you cache, but it doesn't matter. Make sure you make a backup too.

Apparently this post has been updated with more instructions recently?

My wife has this phone. I hope they have some good ROMS for it soon.

Haha I tried to post in developers forum too and couldn't... not enough posts. I've found the easiest way (and the way I'm doing it right now) is to use ROM Manager. I'm using Blackhole 4.01, as it does all the hard work for you, and allows you to choose exactly what you want to be included. There's some more info here:

This isn't stock, so if that's what you're looking for you'll have to look elsewhere. Good luck!

1st i want to say sorry co'z i made a new thread i cant help it ^^ ...
good day to all this is my 1st time to use this phone i bought this from a friend the unit is already cynogen mod 2.2 but i want to try the froyo version which is 2.2.1 because i encountered a lot of fc in my version
any sugestion ow to make start what file i need what thing 1st to do...
things to xda and to the person will guide me here
If you want to learn about installing roms read "Beginners GUIDE:Rooting a HTC Dream(T-Mobile G1) and Installing CYANOGENMOD 6 (FROYO)"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727688
As you already have an old Cyanogen rom, your phone is already rooted, so you can skip the 1st part of the guide (you may want to read it anyway for a better understanding of what was already done on your device).
Once you select the rom you want to flash, you can post your questions on installing that rom in that rom's thread.
Happy flashing!

Usually NOT (changing your rom doesn't unroot your phone).... and this is the development section! Next time post in the question and answer section and we're all happy.

[Q] hi guys noob here!

I just got my g tablet.
I want to root the device and later install a rom I was thinking on robeet`s tntlite
My question is, do I have to install first the 4.2.0. and later the 4.2.5 supplement?
Do I have to root it to attempt rom trials or can be done without rooting? anyway i was thinking to use z4 root.
any advice?
Thanx in advance Im absolutely new to android but Im an ios developer.
Would post a link if I had my tab with me but if you look in the development section there is a thread telling you exact steps to do what you want to. It has all the links for downloads you will need.
Oh this method involves mounting and unmounting partitions instead of using a rooting tool. Its worth doing this way. I felt it taught me more about my device. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for replying, I was following this article:
How to unleash the power of your g tablet from android police( I cant post links yet)
I will search for the thread you are mentioning but if you can later please post it here I would really appreciate your help.
I recommend this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
HOWEVER... read about the available ROMS first. Check out the features and the caveats. See if Flash is already installed so you can skip a step in that instruction guide. Etc... Etc...
Most importantly... have fun and let us know how it goes ;-)
Edit: FYI... The current crop of custom ROM's come pre-rooted for your convenience. It's no longer a requirement to root the device first.
Thanx a lot bro, you helped me a lot with your reply, I will attempt all this at home since my office is 100% mac.
btw is this g tablet mac compatible? lol sorry for the noob questions
Quetions are good. They allow us to help and learn from each other.
Mac Compatible... Oh, yes. I'm typing this from my MacBook Pro which has a VirtualBox session running linux when necessary for nvflashing ;-) Your gTablet's internal memory can be mounted on your Mac desktop via USB or it can be shared via FTP or AFP using a few free apps from the market. Best of all worlds in my opinion.
Yep that's the thread I was thinking about. Glad someone found you the link.
Exactly what was said before, don't forget to have fun and let us know how it went for you and what rom you decided on.

As already referenced, this was the thread that I used, for my first upgrade.
I would recommend loading CWM as well, to redo your partitions to 2,0
Out of curiousity:
Did your new tablet boot up to a welcome screen with setup questions & an end user agreement or did it present you with a home screen ?
Thanx guys, Yap at the end I decided to went with tntlite 4.2.5
LGcubana
My gtab presented me with a home screen and since the beginning crash after crash! so dissapointing... inmediately picked up a new update and everything went smoothly after that, flash running, angry birds from factory presets and so on but I still wanted to moded the tab so that´s what I did.
Btw any of you guys know of a barscan app for the gtab so i can download apps faster from sites like appaware? I don´t know why but the android marketplace is not letting me install that app. Compatibility perhaps?

Software version

Hi I have just bought the LG and was wondering if there is a preferred rooting process and if my phone running software v10d would work? I have moved from a desire hd which used a one click root script on Linux which is what I prefer to use.
Also are there many good roms for this phone?
Thanks
Rom choice is personal preference depends on what you like i suggest you root your phone with SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse. And try all the roms..
Personally i have tried every rom here lol when i say every even down to the cm7 and at the moment Thaiz's is a clear winner plus he put up the system ui and stuff so you can make your very own personal theme from UOT kitchen....
But like i said rom depends on you good luck and welcome to Optimus 3D Forums where waiting is the game lol....
Oh and P.S i am not gonna say anything but next time please post questions in general normally you will be flamed but i will start it of with a positive post ...
Thanks a lot for the info. If I knew how to move this thread over to general, then I would! The main thing Is that I am able to root with the software version I'm running. Don't want to brick the phone

Yes, you need a different radio. Update to V21a, root, install CWM and have fun.

[Q] How to delete AOKP from the start up menu?

I was trying out different ROMs based on AOKP and CM9 on my device and I have finally chose to use the CM9 one. How can I remove "boot AOKP" from the start up? Does the present of the AOKP ROM take up space in my device? Thanks in advance.
You'll need to provide more details. What device do you have and what is this start menu? What rom is it?
And it shouldn't be taking up space on your system if you have CM installed. just taking space on your sd or internal flash memory.

I have an HP touchpad and I have installed this rom in both AOKP and CM9 version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501637
The CM9 is better so I decided to keep using it. How do I remove unnecessary stuff from previously installed ROM?
The start up menu means the one with black background and blue text for you to choose which OS to boot. Sorry for being a noob

lol, no problem. Its just commonly a good thing to state your device and what your running if you don't have that info in your signature, and always be as descriptive as possible. We love to help, but it makes it hard if we don't have something to go off of
I'm assuming you have some custom recovery installed like CWM recovery. Basically in recovery you would have had to of wiped before you flashed CM or your device wouldn't have booted. If it did, then we have a miracle on our hands When you wipe it removes all little bits of your previous rom. I suppose if you are still concerned there is an issue, you could just reboot back to recovery again and wipe everything except your sd and internal (not familiar with the device if it has those), and then just reflash the rom with gapps.
As far as the start menu I have no clue, I don't own that device to know how to remove or modify it. If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with the bootloader, and you should look around for a custom one on the forums that is modded for what you want.
Anyways, this is all just basic stuff and may not apply for the touchpad. If anything, just ask in the q&a section for the device that way a dev for that device can help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1467
I know you are new here so I'll just let you know real quick before I go, each device on XDA has five subforums.
TouchPad:
General
Q&A
Accessories
Development
Themes and Apps
So in the future if you have questions, the Q&A section for the TouchPad will be the best place to ask. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping, i just don't know the device like your actual devs would. Good luck!

Yes an other noob questions

...
If your phone model isn't listed as an option, don't install that ROM. It will be the end of your phone. If you visit the Skyrocket Q&A forum and the dev forum for, well, any phone, there are loads of tutorials on how to flash safely. Please read them first and follow their instructions, along with the ROM instructions, or brick.
Unless you want to prove how 1337 you are. Then, by all means, install the ROM and prove us wrong.

Yea definitely seems like a better idea to follow the instructions for the specif ROM. Any recommendations on one? not looking for anything fancy just wanna get rid of the stock one and because for some reason my phone is currently on version 2.3.5 and i am not being able to install anything from the marketplace. so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Read the Skyrocket dev forum and decide for yourself. Recommending a ROM would be an insult to all the other devs who've put time, effort and sometimes money into designing their own.
im sorry i am just going nuts now with all the stuff ive been reading and i think i gotta take some steps back to make sure i got everything right.
i have clockworkmod 5. something and from what i was able to read i need the to update to the most resent version. So i found a copy of 6.0.4.5 but i am unsure on how to update it. Tried to put it in my sd and run it by booting into clockwormod recovery and installing the zip. it says it installed successfully but it is still in version 5.
Any help with the would be much appreciated

Seriously, dude, they're at the top of the page in the Skyrocket Q&A forum. I know you're new and I'll avoid verbally thrashing you, but if you don't learn to search (or, at a bare minimum, read the stickies), you're going to hate it here.
