I know that I'm starting this thread in the wrong forum but I'm hoping to build a little bit more awareness among developers to see if there is a way to fix this issue.
A lot of people (even with stock) phone's are having issues going into the "My Downloads" folder in the Market and not seeing available updates for applications. I am not sure if this is something that even developers can fix or if Google needs to fix it, then we can send mass complaints to get it fixed, hehe.
It's not a huge issue, but an issue nonetheless. I hope this thread stays open for at least for a few days to direct more people to the existing thread in "Dream" forum.
Thanks in advance to everyone.
:::EDIT:::
Just wanted to let everyone know, as I am sure you've all have already noticed, that the issue mentioned above has been resolved by Google. I am not sure exactly what the initial issue was, I just want to thank everyone on their feedback during that time.
Mods, this thread is now free to close.
Use "atrackdog" app it does the update search for you!!
Glad it isn't only me who has had this problem..
Ditto. Annoying much - yes.
What's killing me is that DxTOP for one is not working with my setup (CyanoMod 3.2, Hero 1.3.5 theme, apps2sd)
But the thing that is the worst is the Market shows the available download for me as 1.0.9 when it should be 1.6.11 and the file size is 293k when it should be ~470k

I had a similar issue with a game I had purchased called Robo Defense. Oddly enough I think it was related to me not wiping before flashing. All I did was wipe and reflashed the ROM and it worked.
I have this same issue since upgraded google map app to 3.1.1 .
JF 1.5 rom.

You've got a paid app in the Market, Bratag (a very good one at that, Snap Photo PRO, buy it people). Doesn't google give you some sorta correspondence method so you can try and find out what's going on? I mean AtrackDog's great, but time consuming. Thanks if you try.
EDIT: Maybe this is my sinister way of trying to get a Snap Photo PRO update....not that I need one.
EDIT2: Seems I got my update (through AtrackDog of course). Sweet zooooom!! Thanks, Bratag!
At the risk of being a me too
Another user with this happening over here. Most of the time I "accidently" run across an update. Things seem to be a bit funky with the Market. Perhaps soon Google will HAVE to update it.
Yea same here so far I noticed 3 apps that had updates available but it didn't show in My Downloads so now I'm just using atrackdog until this issue is fixed, I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the ROM I'm using because I don't think I remember this happening before CyanogenMod 3.4.6.

I really don't think it's a build issue. Google's got something screwy going on.
Hi,
I've found a way to solve the market issues and missing updates issue.
I'm running CyanogenMod-3.5.2.
These are the steps I recall I've done to fix the problem:
1) Open the Terminal and:
Code:
su
cd /data/system
mv packages.xml packages.xml.old
2) turn off and restart the phone,
packages.xml will be recreated
this can take a little time so be patient.
3) you have to enter your gmail account info again.
and some apps could forceclose.
4) turn off and turn on again.
5) I've run also the fix_permission script in the Terminal,
but maybe it is not necessary, so you can try to skip this step:
Code:
su
/system/bin/fix_permissions
6) run the Market app and you'll see Update available in My downloads,
if there are some updates for your apps, downloading and installing also
works again. (Sadly only initially then the problem of missing updates was there again)
7) You can delete packages.xml.old now if you want:
Code:
cd /data/system
su
rm packages.xml.old
That's it.
So far I've not noticed any malfunctioning, all my settings were retained
and all apps seem to work. Hope that I've not forgotten any important step,
(oops, I did..... ) so USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Update:
Sadly the issues seemed to be fixed only initially in the sense that some Update available were shown in My downloads. It fixed downloading from the Market tough.
+1
I hope this issue gets fixed soon.

Has anyone else been able to test this out yet? I am at work so I will not be able to test it until I get home. Please if anyone tests this and finds that it's working as well then we have a fix.
I tested it. Didnt have a great deal of success. Had to roll back to old package.xml. YMMV
A Little Good News
Checked "My Downloads" in the Market this morning, and at the top of the list was an "Update Available" for Pic Say Pro. I had not gotten that from the Market in about a week. No notification, however. Still, AtrackDog reports 5 updates available including that one so it's still not functioning properly.

You know what, you may have hit the nail on the head. If I recall, I think I started having this same issue right about the time I upgraded my Google Maps application.
Is there anyone on this forum that may not have upgraded their Google Maps application, and can you confirm if you are still getting updates through My Downloads?

i opened terminal emulator and tried the first step and right away it told me FAILED PERMISSIONS PACKAGES XML ACCESS DENIED
second step said to reboot so i assumed to do this while still inside the os. should i rebooted into recovery console and start from there...?
Good thinking on the Maps update. That's right about the time it started. Ironically (I'm sure you've seen) AtrackDog (AD from now on) reports a new version of maps, which is not available when you view it from the market. I'm sure there's a Google code page to check somewhere, though.
It's not google maps. I have the old version and still have new app versions not showing. Got to be a google server issue. The way the market is (overcrowded)... a better way of organizing apps is needed and seems to be on the way. My guess is on the next rc update. May have to wait until then for the my downloads fix too
Guys.. I may have found a MARKET FIX
I hold no responsibility for anyone having issues after doing this, or while trying it. As always, Nandroid backup before changing/modding important files. I followed this video, step for step in real time as he did it. On my CM6.1 b2 running G-Tablet and followed his instructions. After rebooting and opening market mine went back into the accept terms for a second, but then went right to market. (Make sure Wifi is on and connected) And now things that weren't showing up before are all now. Dropbox, titanium backup, Kindle, Tweetdeck and other things I was searching for when i realized we didn't have a full market. This is nothing hard. No changing Android ID's or anything technical like most fixes. It's all done on the tablet. Watch the video. And try it if you feel comfortable. I know this worked for some on zpad clean rom's, and not for others. You must clear the cache.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=related
Still not completely full market but way more than before. Most of the normal things are showing up now. Almost double the results now in the Android Market. Excellent!
Good Luck Guys! This fix was originally for the Winstech tablet, but it has also been said to work for Archos Tablets and almost any Android Device that's struggling with full Market.
This may also help some users.
KorbenD
I finally got this working by ending the tasks and then clearing the data for Google Framework by using Titanium Backup. Any of the other data/cache management tools should work too.
The quick test to see if it's working is to try running Market after clearing data. If you get an error, then it should be done. Reboot. Be sure you have a connection before running Market again.

That's awesome! Thanks a lot! I was going to try it in CM6.1, backup Titanium and restore. But, I was able to just do this in Titanium, running ZPad Clean .3
My Downloads appeared as well. Also was able to download and install purchased apps.
UPDATE: I tried backing up the Google Service Framework and Market after doing the hack via Titanium. I reloaded builds and GApps and did a data only restore(only option it gives) via Titanium thereafter. The market came up as expected.
Beat you to it by a few hours:

I put it in the Apps section as it seems a good place for it. All references were documented, however!
thanks for the shout.. Well. We'll just leave it here anyways.
Titanium Backup definately works!
And a big Thank you to everyone who figured it out! My Gtab is now officially awesome.
Alright, it seems that a lot of people have started trying out all of the themes that are popping up here. And why not eh there's a lot of great looking themes flying around (once I've finished constantly messing up my phone with dodgy modifications I might even settle on one myself )
Problem as I see it is, the same questions are getting asked over and over again. And the same solutions are being presented. I know there's the 'How To' sticky for using chewitts installer, but the installation issues are getting posted everywhere: all through each theme thread, in the sticky and even in new threads (I have to admit, I've only seen one, but I don't really want to see a trend starting).
My suggestion is to make this the one-stop shop for all installation and restoration issues. I'll use the next few posts for the different kinds of issues (phone won't boot, market doesn't work etc) and their known solutions.
As the thread progresses with new issues I'll update.
Please note: I do not want to do this on my own
I will need (and I expect) the help of all of you out there that are creating these things that mess up our phones But, seriously, it would be nice if you guys subscribe and help out when you have the time.
This is really just an effort to clean up the forum here a bit, and make life easier for people trying to get information out of the theme threads, and, last but not least, to help the themers (is that a word??) avoid posting the same answers to the same questions over and over again.
I will look at the poll again after the weekend. If the aye's have it, then I will ask for it to be stickied and fill in some gaps. If not then this thread will self-destruct... well... you know... I'll ask a mod to delete it...

First of all, great idea
As for me the problems i mostly met was:
- Market issue not installing Apk's after applying themes, to solve it you have to clear cache and uninstall updates from the "manage applications" menu.
- The other issue was the phone not booting and stuck on SE logo, and had to do a reflash, i remember seeing somewhere that you can flash only on file using flash tools and it will make your phone boot and keep your data but i actually don't remember where i read it
- Other issues at start of my theme"ing" life was chmod, installing adb and setting environment in windows settings but thats easy now - at least for me -
i will try to add more later

Market issue - uninstall market update. Not related to theming.
Phone boot problems - improper installation of framework-res.apk.
chmod - if you have the improper permisions (shell root) you wont be able to push framework-res.apk to your phone, that's why they have you check your permissions. If they aren't proper the installer tells you how to remedy that.
Protip: backup your apk's after you've flashed your phone the last time and set them all up. In theory all your setting should be saved as well. The backup and restore program should be useful as well if you have to reflash.
***I voted no for us needing this thread because all the theme installation questions are easily answered in the theme's thread itself if the person properly reads the post. Also, if people are having doubts they shouldn't be theming their phones without properly figuring out what they have to do, let alone rooting it.***

Theoreticaly you're absolutely right, that's why it took until now to open this thread. Practically, however, things look a bit different... I think another two or three threads popped up yesterday... And how many times have you read about "the market issue" on one (or all) of the theme threads?

Absolutely correct. The Market has been having issues since 1.6, and it's not just on the X10 either. Do we need the thread, not really, as most themes popping up use Chewitts installer and there is a sticky for that already or the issue has already been addressed in the themes thread.
However, you could change the thread to a common X10 issues thread which could be moved to general or rewrite THIS thread as you seem to be covering issues that are more general than theme related anyway.
yeah, fair enough. I just saw all the issues coming up in all the theme threads and how you guys were having to repeat yourselves again and again. I don't really want to get into any other issues other than theme related stuff.
Like I said, I agree that the market issue has nothing do do with themes, but just count up the number of users that posted in the res mods thread because of it.
Anyway, as I was primarily going to put this together to make yours and chewitts life easier (as you two bare the brunt of this), I'll ask the mods to delete it.
I might just write a little bit on recovery and send it to zm4.

Market Fix Must be Re-done.
Android Developers have started posting photos
of the new market rolling out soon.
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/12/android-market-client-update.html
"The Android Market engineering team has been hard at work on improving the Android Market experience for users and developers. Today, I’m pleased to announce a significant update to the Android Market client. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be rolling out a new Android Market client to all devices running Android 1.6 or higher.
This new Market client introduces important features that improve merchandising of applications, streamlines the browse-to-purchase experience, and makes it easier for developers to distribute their applications.
With a focus on improving discoverability and merchandising, we’ve introduced a new carousel on the home and category screens. Users can quickly flip through the carousel to view promoted applications and immediately go to the download page for the application they want. Developers have been very active in creating great Widgets and Live Wallpapers. To make it easier for users to find their favorites, we’re introducing two new categories for Widgets and Live Wallpapers. Applications that include Widgets and Wallpapers will be automatically added to those new categories. We’ll also be adding more categories for popular applications and games in the weeks ahead. In addition, the app details page now includes Related content, which makes it easier for users to quickly find apps of similar interest."
I think it looks great and cant wait for the update.
someone's posted the apk in a nexus one thread. i assume it can be used on the gtab.

I applied the vegan b2 update and after applying the new market update, I didn't need to apply the market fix. Not sure if the b2 resolved he market fix issue, but was pleasantly suprised.

Few questions please:
1. Which link do we use? One at very top?
2. Install via Clockwork and update.zip?
3. Does it open more of the market up, or same as current market (without the system hack using Root Explorer).
4. Will it work with TnT 2.20?

1. Yes top link
2. Yes clockwork and Select zip from sd
3. I am able to see everything in market
4. Yes it will work on TnT 2.20 if the TnT you have is TnT lite.
CAUTION: Would not download this, based on my experience with TnT 2.20:
Nice interface, but not the full market. Games like Tank Hero and other apps still do not show up.
More importantly:
Seems the graphics are broken, since stars for apps are cut off and no button options to actually update the apps.
Something is wrong with this app in relation to the Gtablet and at least TnT 2.20.
Looks like I will be restoring with clockwork, since this app appears borked as far as interface.
Did you folks actually try to update or download an app?
Update 2:
OK, the tiny cut-off line above the uninstall icon bar is what you press. Just have to be precise to press it, but it works. Press it twice.
Rush,
Not sure what you're seeing but as stated in the other post, I'm able to update just fine. (clicking "my apps" lead me to the downoads screen and my available updates show up. Just updated Eagle Nest to be sure)
The game Tank Hero appears on the search list but no app when selecting
Running Vegan b3.

On TnT 2.20, the top icon is cut-off and can not see letters, just bottom few pixel rows. Uninstall icon shows up completely. Rating stars are also cut off. Only shows half of one star for all.
Tank Hero has always been missing.
added:
The cut-off icons and missing stars bugged me. Restoring with clockwork now.
Is there a way to roll back? It doesn't work so well on TnT 2.2...would prefer for a better implementation.

Just about to install new market fix but then I saw your post.
Thanks for info.
I've been trying to get this to work for hours, now - only worked once, then FC's every time after. And it's not an ACLs issue. Market fix / user data wipe and market fix, doesn't matter. FC's.
I won't be rushing to get this into any build, as is just doesn't work for me (yet).
How is everyone installing this, I have had zero FC and everything is installing and updating fine. I am on tnt lite 2.2
Just FC'ing on VEGAn build, TnT Lite is A-OK (except the screen glitches).
I had no problem with the market app update on TnT Lite 2.3, although I was only able to get the basic list of market apps. The tweaks to get the 'near' full market did not work for me. Then, I performed the blackout market update, and I still wasn't able to get the full market. I had to do a full reinstall of TnT Lite 2.3 (wiped user data) in order to restore the full market.
The only issue I can see is the stars, which are all the same (TnT 2.4.0 prototype). I'm considering adding this to 2.4.0, even with that glitch - seems that the good outweighs the bad.
EDIT: Nah, gotta pull it. I can live with the stars, but the cutoff text is a real mess. Must not be setup for 1024x600 screens (yet).

Guys,
I just became the, now rather dubious, owner of a gTablet that a colleague brought for me from the States. So far I am not that impressed. Several apps that supposed to be on there, aren't (no Kindle app out of the box, and no gMarket, despite what the manual says).
SO, I try the announced update procedure: fails.
First time fails at 8%. Second time fails at 13%, third time fails at 28%, fourth time fails at 4%. Is this a joke of some sort? Also the download is rather slow, as in, they use smoke signals to get the message across!
Does anyone have the update as a file that I can run as an apk perhaps?
I also have to point out that the GUI rather sucks. The settings menu misses about 50% of the Android 2.2 options (I have a HTC desire. Waaaay more settings options...)
After my complaints, lets get to figuring this out.
1) Can someone point me to the update pack if it is available for download via my Mac and can be installed using that ES explorer program it has installed?
2) Does the update provide Google Market or the original weblink? Does it use a different gui or still the same simpleton gui?
3) if not, is there a simple ROM flash I can do that gives me a different GUI and google Market?
I have flashed my HTC Hero before, which was not a big deal. However, I want things done simple, so if there is a good ROM with a nice GUI and simple instructions for a noob (I got two left hands when it comes to this sort of stuff), and Google Market, I would gladly see a link.
Any support will be very welcome!

Forget about the stock update and read about TNT lite or the vegan beta Rom if you feel experimental. You can get market flash and pretty much all the Google goodies.

A good start would be the following guide.

Understand that there are newer versions of the rom referenced, also there's VEGAn, a rom based on the Vega.
The Gtab stock needs a lot of help but it is a very good product with a little TLC and some grunt work:
Different devices/users different opinions. I am more than satisfied with the performance and feel of my Gtab without flashing a different ROM and what I did was follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
I used root explorer instead of AndRootFile
Then I changed my launcher to ADW.Launcher
Side load flash (Instructions/.apk on XDA-developers)
Do the market fix to get all market (Instructions/.apk on XDA-developers)
add titanium backup
add ROMManager
Note: When I applied the latest update from Viewsonic (fixed the video driver, now AngryBirds, etc working) I had to re-root the device but everything else works fine.
Even fixed the issue with Gtab not seeing Ad-hoc network from phone (Instructions can be found on internet). Now my Gtab rocks, connects to my home Wifi or if not available connects to my Phone Wifi.
I can still launch the default tapNtap if I want to and Viewsonic upgrades apply fine. I had an issue with update also....Support had me set the sleep to "off" and then it worked fine, however the update image was posted on XDA-developer:
Bobtran,
Interesting perspective. Could you run Quadrant and show us what that score is?
I have had TnT up to 2.2 then swithed to VEGAn beta3 now. Q =2411
Most everything runs very very fast...
All, Thanks for the suggestions and the useful links . I might be flashing mine this weekend.
As for which ROM to use, what are the pros and cons for one over another? E.g. if I were to take the TnT ROM (I think it's at 2.4.1 now?), how does that fare against, say, the Vegan Beta4 (I think the latest is beta4 from what I read on some posts)
Bobtran, did you have a link for the update image? seemed like you were going to post it, but got cut short...
Guys,
I am trying to install Clockwork Mod v08 as per one of the links. First issue is that the tablet won't mount the SDcard to my desktop. SHouldn't be a big issue as I can coy/paste the required files from the internal storage to the SDcard via ESexplorer (standard installed on the gTablet).
However, how do I know it installed correctly? I don't see a new app and the boot install goes very fast. There is an opened box with an arrow pointing down and a load bar that seems to have green hashed filling, as if it's preparing to install. Then suddenly the splash screen pops up. The box with arrow and progress bar are there for a second or so, maybe 2. Seems rather quick. Is this correct?
EDIT: I wanted to say the boot screen didn't come up when starting up with vol+ and pwr, but just noticed, it does... so should be ok
well, seems I have been successful in flashing the new ROM (TnT 2.4.0) using CWM-v08.
Question though, the instructions in the TnT installation guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245) seem to say that the market fix only is a partial fix (note that the comment applies to TnT2.2).
Now that I installed the TnT2.4.0 ROM, I was wondering if the market fix is also only partial for TnT2.4. If yes, can I run the patch at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
and if yes, would that give me full Market access? If not, what's involved in getting full Market access?
As a side question that may not belong here but wouldn't be answered in the appropriate forum section: I have an XT701 phone that needs a Market Fix. Would the fix at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
also provide my phone with the Market? Just a side question, if no answer, that's fine...

Unfortunately I flashed to TnT lite yesterday so can't do that anymore without starting from scratch. Just testing the waters so to speak.

For the market fix, just see the link that I have in my first post, in the TnT Lite thread. That fix could also work on other devices. It's the same fix in the link you just posted.
