Any web browser that identifies itself to sites as non-mobile? - Captivate General

Drives me crazy that some sites won't allow me to view the full site, and I am relegated to the pared down mobile version. Are there any browsers for free on the market that identify themselves as a PC to sites servers, so I can see the actual site, not the mini mobile site?

Dolphin, or Firefox with an add-on.

Dolphin lets you chose in its settings how site see it. AOS, IOS, Desktop, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've used firefox before for PC, but not for android, and never used dolphin. Which one would you guys recommend? I'm on the stock 2.1 rom, FWIW.

Skyfire lets you toggle between mobile and desktop version of a webpage as well.

miren browser. try them all
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

On my phone with stock rom, you can tell Dolphin desktop, but ar least SyFy still loads mobile page.
Skyfire the setting seem to just be display format, not how the phone is identified to the site so SyFy still loads the mobile page.
I haven't tried any other pages since that one is easy to tell. It's a bit more difficult to get too, but the stock browser also has the desktop setting, but when I changed it the browser crashed bigtime.
A post elsewhere indicated that is disabled in ROM so some other roms may work.

You can also specify the user agent of the stock browser as well. All you have to do is type this into the address bar, and a screen will pop up and allow you to choose:
about:useragent
You can select desktop, iphone, etc.

Changing the useragent is cool but some sites still show the mobile page.
No matter what browser or useragent it loads the mobile site. Anyone know how to get around that?

Did you try dolphin bowser HD? That's what I use when I want desktop version. That website loaded the desktop version when I tried it.
EDIT: I just checked my settings, there is a field in settings called User Agent, I have that as desktop. I have never had a problem with Dolphin HD, notice in the market there are like 3 versions of Dolphin browser.

I had tried using the add-in to toggle to desktop mode... but it was still gong to mobile version of the site. I just discovered that exiting the browser and coming back in worked. The mobile page must have been cached or something.
Thanks! This will help me keep up with our repeated storm related school closings.

Dolphin HD

Much as I love the stock browser on Honeycomb (especially the bookmark sync), it has become incredibly laggy in places, especially entering into text fields on forums etc. I tried most of the other browsers on the market, and at the moment the new Dolphin HD beta is working the best for me. You can find it here:
http://home.dolphin-browser.com/tunny/Download.htm
Pages load quickly, scrolling is smoother, text entry less painful. What browsers are other people out there using? Is stock working OK for you or are you using another one? Would love to find the best browser for android tablets.
I use dolphin on my desire HD,and have a epad on order, is there a tablet version or do you use the same one as for phones

I believe it's the same one, I don't use Dolphin on my Desire so I'm not completely sure but the download page doesn't seem to distinguish between phone and tablet.

Works good as long as you don't try to edit the favourites bar, it crashes
Yeah crashes a fair bit. I've not found a browser yet which works properly with the XDA site. It's strangely laggy, and virtually unusable via the eee pad.
android has always had problems with some forums, xda and androidforums for example :/
I had been using Dolphin HD browser, as the stock browser is a bit flakey with mobile view even using the about:debug.
I've since switched to Firefox 4 with the phony add on. Works great. Only drawback on that one is Flash isn't working yet.
It's not the browser that's causing the input lag, it's the ASUS keyboard. Swap it for the stock Android one and you'll see the difference straight away.
incorrect.. laggy whatever keyboard used.. I've tried it with Asus, stock android, Flext9 by nuance and Thumb Keyboard.. all laggy.. viewing and posting using Firefox with the same keyboards is much better
This was posted in another thread but I'll put it here too. If you want to stop the lag for the XDA forums then change the style option bottom left of the page to 'classic' instead of 'XDA 2010'. Seems to run fine in any browser then.
I've gone back to the HC keyboard with the stock browser now after trying out Dolphin HD. It's got its faults but works well most the time.
I'm using firefox because it has a sessionsaver... all of them crash occasionally.
Sure I read some where if you use dolphin and contact the developer they will send you the apk file for the tablet version of dolphin HD

Yeah that was me, but it doesn't work anyway; As soon as you try to edit the bookmarks it crashes
Opera mobile
I heard opera browser is one of the best browsers for the EPTD, there's a you tube video showing it silk smooth on the galaxy tab 10.1v like ipad 2 performance, no lag at all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdGRa_QvyF0&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
I'm using the Dolphin HD browser and after a few niggles re. bookmarks I am now really enjoying using it. No crashes or lags. Really like using the different gestures which can be modified to whatever you want. e.g. draw a letter "B" (roughly) to get bookmarks bar. Plus a lot of different add-ons and themes. Deffo my no. 1 browser at moment.

So I still don't know why my Firefox mobile looks like a re-skinned Dolphin Browser and yours looks like it does OP. Is that an addon or perhaps a setting in preferences?
I've been a Firefox desktop user for years and have been anxious to try the mobile version, but there's still no support for ARMv6 processors, sadly. Anyone know if this is coming, or am I left in the dust until I upgrade next January?

[Q] Best Browser? Vote Now (poll)

There is a thread on "Best Browser" here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936576
But looking for a poll that sums the data, and couldn't find one.
Searching "browser" in Android Market returns 12 choices. (28 Sep 2011)
Vote for your current favorite and feel free to reply in the comments with stories, or reasons.
Miren quite underrated, but packed full of goodness.
X-Scope PRO no 1 for me for sure, i also like Miren and Opera but always use X-Scope.
I was using Miren happily until the last update to Dolphin HD. Now it's just pulled slightly ahead. Most of the Android browsers are great in their own way. it's hard to go wrong with almost any of them. Good poll idea, OP.
Stock is fine with me otherwise I really enjoy Dolphin Mini. They are all good haha
Just to clarify, maybe HTC modifies the stock browser, but have grown annoyed with it not maintaining open windows state. And refreshing the current page upon returning.
Thanks to all for answers and votes.

You can search and then log-press on songs to get a menu that allows you to do stuff like create a playlists.
About logging in, you probably just entered the wrong username or password. We currently don't have any way to

have to assume that the login was successful

Cloud Browser for your HTC One

Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.granitamalta.cloudbrowser
Cloud Browser is a fast Android browser. Cloud browser is inspired from iOS's Safari for its user interface. By using iOS Safari as an inspiration, we were able to develop a natural and modern user interface aimed at making our users' life easier.
Speed: Cloud Browser is without a doubt one of the fastest browsers on Android.
Security: Cloud Browser has Icognito mode built in so if you need to browse the web anonymously, you know you can do it with Cloud Browser. Also, our browser sports the latest in data encryption methods so you know you are safe when browsing with Cloud Browser.
Productivity: Cloud Browser is very easy to understand and use, thus making migrating from other web browser an easy and painless process. You can even use the built in option to import bookmarks from other web browsers.
Works excellent whether on phone or tablet: Cloud Browser has been designed with both phones as well as tablets in mind from the very beginning and thus looks good whether it is being used on your phone or else on your tablet.

Flash is only available for devices that can use the official Adobe Flash. I am still checking for a way to integrate flash on 4.3+ devices.
I am also thinking of adding Ad-blocking support.

There is a hack that supports dolphin browser over the Nexus 5 thread. That might give you some ideas. Like the browser, it's really fast. Sites like theverge that normally take forever to load, load extremely quickly with this browser.
So far I like it!
I would recommend making video's enter fullscreen like on iOS it would make it flow a lot better and a lot of browser don't have that. It will make it stand out more.
Does it have Chrome bookmark sync? If not I'm not interested.

Some people like that, some don't. Will look into it though.

You can import bookmarks from default browser, however there is no sync, sorry.

Even if you add it as an option in the setting so people can toggle it on and off if they like it or not would be nice.
Thanks for at least looking into it

I don't know if Google allows external Chrome bookmark syncing to start with.
