I want to publish a script to COPY a THEME from a ROM A to ROM B.
But i want to ask the agreement of the Theme Creators....
Can i do it ? It will extract the Theme of the ROM A and can be apply to the ROM B.
My idea :
i install a ROM A, i like it Theme, but not other things..
and i want this theme on an another ROM (ROM B)..
Say me if you are AGREE or DISAGREE with my script ?
Theme = staus bar + all SE apps skined + Reboot Option + Transitions animations
i agree if it is the best we make it better
Hope not every litle kid is going to steal themes with this
But if it works i can be very useful
i test it.. it work !!!
But i can't check what users will do with my work...
i hope it will use it for personal use... not to steal a theme and release a ROM with this steal...
My test :
1) I flash my X10 with a ROM A (eminence 1.2)
2) My script extract all companent of the theme of ROM A and copy it on le SD card
3) I flash my X10 with the ROM B (Blue Spark 4b)
4) My script Relace the theme of my New ROM B, with the theme of the ROM A (previously backuped)
5) Reboot, and i have the ROMB with the theme of ROM A...
I appreciate your work but there are already scripts available to do it.
Anyway I will still try yours . Thank you.

Will this work between different firmware versions? Can we port existing themes to the newest (435) update? Or, say, port a 2.1 theme to 2.2 and up?

I am currently outside and search in the XDA App s..ks. If I remember correctly you only had to copy the framework-res apks to respective folders and it copied the pngs with same name from one to another. It only worked with pngs and not the xmls.
Do a search. It must be somewhere in the android section.

no need to decompil/compiling anything.... juste a copy/past
It work for ONLY the SAME version of FW...
A024 to A024
NOT A024 -> 2.2
my script is realy not hard to write and to use... i'm not a THemer, i never create a theme...
I juste know my script work perfectly on A024 FW ... tested with Eminance 1.2 (ROM A) to Blue Spark (ROM B)
tested The copy of the Theme of Eminance 1.2 to a Global Generic A024 recently flashed by SEUS (no xRecovery)
good luck.. hope you'll make something

I have successfully used the UOT Kitchen to modify the icons and fonts, etc. but I now want to add the "green if connected to Google" icons which I didn't see in the kitchen.
Can someone explain how this can be done? Can I just modify the framework-res.apk or is this another kind of tweak or fix??
Thanks
PS: I can't see any themes around anymore that offer this (I am on WB v5 + DL custom kernel at the moment)
If you are on stock rom you can use Achotjan flashable zip in android development section (i can't post here the link cause i'm on mobile but you can easily find it watching on achotjan threads on his profile)..otherwise if you are on a different rom..you can copy and replace icon.png images from achotjan framework to your! good luck

Thanks, I don't want a new ROM - just the green icons. I currently have green icons but not the ones that only go green when you are connected to Google services.
I am looking for JUST that part only.

Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I would like to be able to do it myself as I already have a customised framework and systemUI.apk.
If someone could explain the process that would be great.
you just need to replace the correct icons in the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk then replace them on your phone.
The way i did it was copy .apk file to computer, change extension to .rar, open it in winrar (not extract), extract the hdpi-drawable folder then replace icons, copy that hdpi-drawable folder with the new icons back into winrar and it will ask you to repack the .rar, after that change the extension back to .apk and copy it to the correct folder. The framework-res.apk one is ok to copy back but if you do the systemui.apk one you will get endless fc until you can restart your phone so i think you have to install it through flashtool?
I think that you have to replace the images without extract the entire apk otherwise you need to resign it when you finish! Anyway..framework is not involved..wifi and signal icons are sustemUI related only..i will upload it in few hours..then you can watch inside for the green icons and do it yourself! Pay attention..cause if you do something wrong probably the phone won't boot up or gives fc!
Cheers

Thanks for the file. I am able to change the icons using the kitchen, but I need to understand how just replacing the icons gets them to change colour when connected to Google?? Is the code already there and the icons are all the same colour so we just don't see it with the stock icons?
I have made other changes to my SystemUI so I don't want to lose those changes - that's why I want to be able to change my own files.
Is it really just a case of changing the icons to get the desired effect? Is it some specific icons that are needed, or any icons? *still confused*

Mate..open the file that i post..inside you can find systemUI.apk..opne it with winrar and extract drawable-hdpi folder to your desktop..you will see all your icons..the images named "....fully.png" are colored green!! You must replace your current icon in your custom SystemUi with this ones!! Is it more clear now?

Thank you very much,I have known how to use the apktool to do some change like the 1% battery code or the CRT.
but to make a beautiful theme is not a easy work,I should consider to harmonize the color, and the icons collocation.
combine the odex and the apk is also a big problem to me.
I'll try to learn and test.

Ok, it's explained on other threads but here is a quick one:
First thing you should be rooted (or be good with ADB).
Use xUltimate app (Iposted link above) to extract all apps and framework.
Than copy framework-res.apk to Apk_Multi-Tool\place-apk-here-for-modding (also posted link in post above) and run Script.bat in there, now select 10 (decompile...with dependencies) then drag & drop twframework-res.apk in that green Sript.bat window and it will decompile that framework-res.apk.
Now in folder Apk_Multi-Tool\projects\framework-res.apk\res\values open file bools.xml with notepad and find line <bool name="config_animateScreenLights">false</bool> (but on stock it will be true instead of false ) change it and save it. Now in Script.bat (green ) window
chose compile apk follow instructions (is this system app of course YES... overwrite YES then it will instruct you but I will mention that before final YES in newly created folder Apk_Multi-Tool\keep delete file resources and just then finish compiling. Now you have unsignedframework-res.apk next to original one move it from there rename it (delete that prefix unsigned).
Now it has enabled CRT-off animation. You must replace (can do it with Root explorer) in phones system\framework reboot phone and look at CRT-off effect when you lock screen (must have enabled all animation on phone display settings. Rest of the theming is done by replacing .jpg .png .9.png in apk (opened with WinRar or 7zip) mostly in res\drawable-hdpi.
Experiment and enjoy (be careful with framework if you mess something you will have bootloop...

I made this for my use, I like it so I shared it, about battery %, there are so many free apps on market so I don't see why bother to built it in theme.
About lock screen, I really don't know to code that for Android. Still I know the man on XDA called JKay, he is an expert on that subject, but he is developing for SGS2. If someone could talk him in to developing this for SGR that would be the day
Another thing, about custom ROM.
My opinion is that the best thing is odexed (unchanged) stock ROM with custom KERNEL, and some custom theming with few mods, so basically having hundred custom ROMs is nothing to brag about.
Another thing is my wife took my SGR and now I'll get SGS2, still maybe we will switch

Well it's easy to modify theme, you can download any Galaxy 2 theme (it's almost same or any other phone theme or ROM) and combine icons that you like. It's a bit harder to make whole theme "complete"
If there is few requests I can make theme in some other style-color. Still my favorite is black-green-glass
Thankyou redooo ......
Be with our SGR only don't go for SGS2;-)

It's a very good idea. Other phone users are doing that. Look at i9000 section. They say that deodexing a firmware doesn't make it smoother or something like that..

Which version of the theme?
v2 (i hope the screens are from v2)
I do this on ODEXED ROM.
Step 1- Download a theme for de-odexed ROM itself.
Step 2- MANUALLY put files using Root Explorer or anything similar.
Step 3- While you re-place, delete .odex files.
Step 4- After copying all teh files and deleteing .odex then and there, re-boot
step 5- ???
step 6- PROFIT!

Hi friends !
Many of you asked me to include different languages to NEO ROM. As I have been unable to do so, So I've come up with links to different guides/tutorials for MODs that are used in NEO ROM.
By following these guides you will be able to make your own fully functional CUSTOM ROM with various MODs.
I used the same links to build my own ROM (NeO RoM).
STEPS:
(1) Basic features of a CUSTOM ROM includes: deodexed, rooted, zipaligned, init.d scripts support, busybox, custom bootanimation, bootsound, vold.fstab, build.prop tweaks etc.
These features can be implemented in any ROM using dsixda's Android Kitchen.
Follow this to know how to use kitchen for making custom ROMs.
Just grab .tar file for any of stock ROM that you wish to use as base build.
It will give you a CWM flashable zip of your ROM. However there may be some problems with updater-script.
So before flashing the ROM to your device, upload this file here, I'll look for problems & modify for you.
(2) Next modification that you can make to your ROM is theming.
Basic theming includes changing icons, fonts, transitions, transparency, status bar mod, quickpanel icons mod etc
Use UOT kitchen for theming purpose.
see this video on how to use UOT kitchen.
(3) For advanced MODs, you must know how to compile, decompile APKs, comparing apks using NOTEPAD++ & winmerge tool
Follow these guides to setup android sdk & apktool:
ANDROID SDK
APKTOOL
(4) Lets start adding advanced MODs to our ROM:
a) simplest one CRT OFF ANIMATION CRT OFF
b) LIDROID 14 toggle MOD 14 toggle
c) CRT ON Animation CRT ON
d) SWIPE to remove notifications
e) ICS style settings.apk
I'll add more links to the other MODs later.
Before that you should try to implement the above MODs in your ROM.
Post here your problems, errors etc, I'll provide assistance to you all.
Why depend on DEVs when you can yourself make your OWN ROM?
Believe me, NEO ROM is the result of all these links/tutorials/guides.
So, start making your OWN first custom ROM !!! :good:

First of all, thank you very much for your work and effort, and for this wonderful initiative. I've been reading here and there to try to make my own rom and this is just the push that I needed.
So far I managed to get the dsixda kitchen running. I downloaded the I9103ZSLE6 original rom, unziped it and uncompressed all the stuff through the kitchen, so I have a working directory "WORKING_062812_032259" with everything on it. I also selected the option Add root permissions and I suppose everything went OK.
Now I'm trying to customize it with the UOT. I watched the video, but the problem that I found is that inside the framework folder I just have the framework-res.apk but not the SystemUI.apk, among a lot of jar and odex files.
Should I deodex the rom with the dsixda kitchen to get the System-UI.apk?
Another question I have: should I change de CSC version? I remember reading somewhere that if you take a rom from another country or zone it is necessary to do so.
Thank you very much in advance.

For advanced MODs, deodexed apks/jars are required.
So, I recommend you to first deodex /system/app & /system/framework
folder using kitchen.
Though UOT kitchen can work with STOCK ODEXED files, but you should first deodex your ROM
also SystemUI.apk file lies in /system/app folder
not in /system/framework
You need to upload three files:
SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk
Added this to my Guide's List..
Hope you dont mind
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721539
Ok, I just deodex the rom:
Could not deodex the following (you can try to deodex these files again):
GoogleQuickSearchBox.odex Maps.odex Phonesky.odex PlusOne.odex VoiceSearch.odex

some files cant be deodexed using dsixda's kitchen.
delete those files & extract the updated files from a working ROM (data/app/folder)
Thank you very much for your time. I downloaded NeoRom V2.1 and in this rom this 5 programs are removed and not replaced with the corresponding apks... so It's ok to just remove them or I'm missing something?

phonesky.apk is play store.
So you must grab this apk from neo rom system /app folder
all others can be removed. they are not necessary.
EDIT: com.google.vending.apk is the file for play store
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
Ok, it must be "com.android.vending-1.apk" then. I've been looking for phonesky.apk like crazy
Thank you very much.
Ok, so now I have the rom rooted and deodexed, and I added the apk of the market.
I flashed the stock zsle6 rom with odin.
To flash the deodexed one, so I can try the theming I created with the UOT Kitchen, what should I do?
I suposse the steps are as follows:
1.-Select "Build ROM from working folder" at dsixda kitchen.
2.-Flash CWM with ODIN.
3.-Flash the rom created with dsixda kitchen (Odin or CWM??).
4.-Flash the zip from UOT Kitchen.
Is that correct?

yes.. the steps are in order.
flash the zip obtained from dsixda kitchen via CWM
there may be some errors with the updater script file.
upload here when zip is ready.

use neo roms updater script and update binary files
since the file you uploaded is update script not updater one.
dsixda doesnt fully support SGR
. it requires some changes to updater script.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, I think I made a mistake.
dsixda gives me the option of replace the update-script with unpdater-script and undate binary. I just rebuilt it, and say yes to that this time. I attach the files.

Click to collapse
FOR USERS EDITING IN MOBILE (Root Explorer)..........PC users go down
Now rename the follwing files (Both from your device and the other rom) [dont mix them up. place them in different folder] as
Code:
framework-res.apk
as
Code:
framework-res.zip
Code:
Settings.apk

FOR PC USERS
JUST Select the apk and right click and select winzip or any other tool and press extract
From now on use have to use your brain, gut feel, your choices and stuff.
SO Extract the zips
Got to Res folders of each apk
For Example if you are working on Settings go to
Res folder in both your rom and the cm11
in your rom go to the the file which is related to your screen resolution
Eg.
For HDPI -(drawable-hdpi)
and same with cm11 and then start comparing the pictures the both folders and there might be nice pics in (drawble-XXHDPI) folder and that doesnt mean you can take all the pics from drawable-XXHDPI after choosing your stuff replace your images and rename if necessary ( if the images look exactly the same and with different name and rename to the name of picture in your name and replace the pic ) just go into the main folder of the file of your app which you extracted and zip of your rom
For Eg. Its Setting app
after you have edited the pics
Some Other Tips
There are few pictures in blue try to edit theme with gimp or Image Editor By Byte Experts
For chaning Default Wallpaper
Go to framework-res.apk
in that go to res
then drawable
and choose the Image you want and replace the image with same name
9 pngs can be replaced in the same way, but if you want to edit them follow this video- How to easily edit .9.png files
go back to res and then back again you will find all the folders like
assets
META-INF
res
resources.arsc
AndroidManifiest.xml
Select all the files present and zip them then Rename the zip again to " Setting.apk "
now you need to push the file back to your device
Just follow this Thread - How Install a App as System APP
For Setting and SystemUI and for framework

Great guide. Just one point/tip if I may, I see it a lot that People suggest to rename an apk to zip, well in order to open a zip you obviously need to have a program capable of doing so, so just set apks to open with your preferred zip program which will cut out the unnecessary step of having to rename each apk you want to mod.

No I actually din't theme it, I used exdailer and dark theme its a light and good looking too
Great thread. Helped me a lot since I'm working on a Android L themed ROM for the galaxy express using Pacrom as base. I've managed to get the settings.apk theme changed like the header and color and stuff. Trying to change the icon colors in settings and theme the dialer and framework res. Whenever I theme the dialer and framework res it the dialer doesn't show up after replacing via system/priv-app permissions -rw-r-r-. And the framework res cause a boot loop. All I did was change some pngs and .9 images and edited the XML's dimensions and styles XML to match up then made any necessary changes to the drawables due to kitkats new theming process. Shoot me a PM thanks In advance.

Well it lots like you have normally edited .9.pngs like any other picture so there is a force close as framework runs throughout the system there is probably a boot loop for now take the apks from youe rom and flash them from recovery and after that while editing .9.pngs you first decompile the apk
Then select the picture leaving that black dots and the border and save and recompile.
I have attached the video in first post
