if it edit boot animation images they then dont show in the animation, if i edit all the images the animation doesnt show at all and ust shows the standard androit animation.
Is there any specific type of image i.e indexed colour etc these have to be. Im assuming i can use as little or as much images as i need? does both the folders need to be used?
cheers
Replace like for like, some say you can use more but I've always found using the same amount works best. And store the images too.
So 1 static image or a quite animation of maybe 5/6 is out the window?

Well if the default uses 30+ images then obviously you can use 5 or 6, if you just want to use a static image then just replace the two in the framework and remove the bootanimation.zip
whats the name of the static boot in framework? cheers
I have actually animated slightly but its going way too fast for the images. In the dec.txt can ou change the speed in which it flicks through the images? as i notice the number after the height and width seems to be different in most animations
Yep that's the one after the width and heights numbers.
probably says 30 in your desc.txt
It describes the frames per seconds.
so if i lower it thwn intheiry it wont run through the images too fast, it was at 250 lol
Correct, the lower the number, the less frames per second it plays.
Learned a lot when I was messing about with my own personal bootscreens aswell.
Just play around with it and remember to not to compress your zip packages when your done. That will result in a blank black screen. So set you zip compression options to "Store" in Winrar, 7zip, Winzip or what you use to zip down with
And you should probably make the resolution of the pictures 240x427 that way you'll be sure to get a smooth animation.
The desc.txt will scale them to what you set the resolution to in it.
I tried making bootscreen where the png was set to 480x854, that made the bootscreen stutter like hell.
Edit:
But since you only got a few pictures you could try to make them in the full 480x854 maybe that will work with so little animation required.
Here's is one i made last year:

ok still not working, heres what ive got. Directly replaced the png's that were already there after editing the 1st one to keep any settings the same, it just shows blank black when booting
any ideas?
Made a little modifications, try this one.
The timing on the initial screen should probably be adjusted, same with the animation.
But it's working.
Lol i uploaded the wrong one! what did you change was meant to be this
Al the same image it works but flickers etc rather than staying still

Anyone has any 640x480 vga animated gif?
Also, can you post me the original 3G animated gif file?
I'm trying to change my splash screen and the startup animation. So far I haven't been successful. I got this one worked:

However it only cover half the size of my screen... that's why I want to try a VGA animated gif... to see if it makes the different.
I only have one question - can you use GIFs as animated wallpapers?
I don't have my TP with me right now so I can't try...
If yes then I would start looking for some gifs

you would buy a phone just for that?
The answer is yes, you can put a gif as wallpaper, but it's not going to move. I don't even have try to be able to answer you that. Why would you want a moving background anyway? It's annoying

I think he already has the phone and he just asked a question. It might be annoying to you but to other people including me moving backgrounds would be nice to have (as long as it isnt a Panda doing kung fu) lol

I think you got the wrong idea... the animation is for the boot screen, not your background
Anyway, like I said, I gave up on this idea already, because it's too hard to find a VGA gif that fit my phone and it's kinda confusing. This is the one from Lantis ROM and the setting
here's a CIA one i found...
i done with this your right.... 5hrs i will never get back
I made these.
I made these use regitry editor an go to somthing like local machine software htc animation change windows direcory name to same name has gif or wav and place folder in root of windows on ppc.
I recently went on a search for getting some good wallpapers for my Droid X. I downloaded various 960x864 pictures, but whenever I try to set them as wallpaper it forces me to crop them into a 864x864 square it seems. Is this normal?
Excellent question I just got my droid yestyerday and I want to use some images I have as wallpaper but it tries to crop them to small and into a square how can I get my images to work as backgrounds?
Have you tried sliding the cropping box out to encompass the entire image?
It slides to the side but will not slide down to get whole image.
By slide to the side do you mean than the cropping box moves, but does not grow?
The box will grow if you "grab" it from the edge of the box.

it seems to only grow at a fixed 1:1 ratio, I may take a video later to show it because I understand it's hard to grasp what we're saying without seeing what's happening. I can enlarge the orange square to "maximum" but from there I can't stretch it wider. Here's an image of it, kinda blurry but you can still see the issue.
Can't post it as an image but here's the link
www dot photoshop dot com/accounts/9957f134d6344f1d91f6bfe43b91f4d3/px-assets/8e8de8366a2a4c72882d1dea1ec55865
It will always grow at a 1:1 ratio. The bounding box is fixed at a ratio of 960x854. You won't be able to stretch it wider once the box hits the top and bottom of the image you are applying.
I downloaded some wallpapaers that were supposedly that resolution and they still seem overly large and I have to crop them?
You will ALWAYS have to set the crop if you want the entire image to be included. Regardless of the original size - be it the precise size (960x854) or another size - the cropping box will start out smaller than the image. You will always need to drag the edge of the box to its largest size in order to encompass the entire image.
The image I posted the link to is 960x854, but as you can see the box is maxed yet there is still some of the image that needs to be added to complete it. I understand that it will always ask to crop the image, but why won't it fit to the proper image size?
Any chance you have your dimensions reversed? Are you sure the image isn't 854x960? In your image it looks like it is off center. If the cropping box was fully expanded to the WIDTH, it wouldn't be possible to be off center.
I am guessing that it is hitting the HEIGHT restriction first, leaving a gap on the side, as indicated in the image below.
If you want to upload your background picture I can check it. Or you can email it to me if that is easier. My XDA username @ the most likely email domain for an Android user.

I have jpeg/png image that I am trying to use as a wallpaper. I changed the resolution of the image to 920x800 and downloaded and saved to gallery on the phone.
When I go to change wallpaper and use that, it ALWAYS brings up the crop tool and doesn't let me pick the whole image. The crop tool messes up the resolution and that's not what I want. I want the whole image as I downloaded it to appear as the wallpaper.
Is it not possible to do
Needs to be 960x800
Doesn't need to be any resolution really. The stock ones are just generally 960x800. Use the crop tool to expand the window by pressing on the edge/border of it and drag out so that you can expand the window as much as possible over the image.

Is true that doesn't have to be 960x800 but it need to be a res that have the same proportions or you won't be able to use the whole image and instead will end cropping and scaling the image.
download wallpaper set and save from the market. its a cool app and it lets you use the entire image. also using a hi-resolution wallpaper or hd wallpaper helps to make it not pixelated and fuzzy looking. it doesn't have to a particular size either.

Nice app but it does the same it won't let you use the whole image it crops and scale and the image ends blurry.

got a low resolution pic and it did what I wanted. THANK YOU
Now if I could only figure how to set different jpegs for lock screen and wall paper
Check out what I found!!!!

I personally prefer the second site, because they give you the option to download all the images as a zip file.
This process is not for the impatient. Both of these programs (and every other program I have found, so far) saves the images as something other than .png's. This means you will have to convert each one. I tried using .jpg's, and it borked my phone for a bit. I actually got a forceclose during boot!!!! Another thing you have to remember is: boot no likey transparency. If your images have it, you gotta get rid of it, or else it'll come out all funny.
I did not intend for this to be a walkthough. If you need more info, the search button and experimentation are your best friends. That being said, pay attention to the text file. If you edit it, use notepad ++, as regular notepad will fvck up the syntax. The first line controls the image size. If you don't want a 2 part boot, erase the part2 folder and edit the text file, removing the reference to part2. I changed it to read p 0 0 part1

good find dude
thanks i was looking for something since gifworks doesnt work anymore
So I came across this early on in my research of theme porting, but was still learning and didn't fully understand the process. However, now that I have some experience under my belt I decided to take a look at it and see how it worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
Basically by use of this app we can apply created .zip packages that contain themed image's for any .apk located in /system/. In short, we can theme individual pieces of our phone to our taste, by applying a specific .zip.
There is a very specific process to doing this, because there are certain requirements to inserting .png files into your phone. The files you have flashed may have changed XML values that point to specific images, if that XML points to 20 images then the .zip you create must contain different versions of those specific 20 images - in order for this to work properly. In other words, the images already have to be called in the code for this to work, so we have to be careful how we build these .zip's so they work right.
Basically what we need to do is just start creating addon packs for our existing theme's, that way we know it will work as long as that theme is installed (it has the XML to support the .png file addon packs)
That means, you get your little tweaks without us having to create entire new theme's or having to bother at all with the long process of making these edits, we just have to find the .png's you want changed and include them in the package.
Watch this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9y3ooUZZrg
I've tested this once on just my battery (because the accurate battery xml is universal, it references 100~ images) I used the battery from my recent port A Splash of Color, i pulled the .png files of just the battery icon and transplanted them to the .zip i created (watch the video, it shows you how to do it) Pushed the .zip to the AndroidThemes directory on my phone (that the Metamorph app created) then loaded up the app. In the app, my test.zip showed up and everything worked great - at the end the phone vibrated as if it was force closing but it was just rebooting, when it was done the battery icon was changed, with no need to wipe dalvik or use recovery at all.
Go ahead and try for your self, here is my testing.zip (you must have at least pick and pack and a theme with the accurate battery mod installed for this to work);
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QFLQDEGE
I have my EA11 dark froyo port that i'm working on, and you'll see i've changed the battery to the EA11 Splash of Color battery
