I'm a noob sorry for explanation I cant load any roms or install from sd card. The last thing i did was update recovery it went to 2.5.I booted into recovery and my sdcard was empty now im stuck. I can get into recovery but when i apply update and reboot phone it stays on white evo screen. I dont know what to put on my sd card to fix. I have portable adapter for sdcard because my pc is not reading phone. I have been down three days now i dont know what to do. id like to stay rooted but i just want my phone to work please help.
Do i have a broken evo please help?

unfortunatley the only way (besides sending your phone in) is to do a sbf of the phone. it will wipe everything including your root. search around on the forums on how to do an sbf. to initially do it you need to get to your bootloader screen by using a combination of the power button and something else (idk i use the droid x) then use a program to flash the sbf. hope this helped.
and your phone isnt really "bricked" because you can get to the bootloader/recovery. completely bricked is not being able to do anything at all. Im sorry if this info is incorrect in any way since im basing it off of my dx knowledge.

oh i forgot to say its not allowing me flash anything through recovery. is there anyway i could install to my sdcard then put sd card in my evo?
thanks im about to try now!

The G1 Night Light (READ FIRST IF YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE)

Many people complain that they have "bricked" their phones when they really haven't. This thread will hopefully help reduce the questions on all of our useful threads.
How to tell if your phone is bricked:
1.) When you try to turn it on, nothing happens?
2.) Camera+Power does nothing.
3.) Home+Power does nothing.
4.) You flashed the SPL BEFORE the radio
If you answered yes to any of the above 4, you are bricked. You probably need a new board in the phone. Read more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=516440 It has been confirmed that you WILL brick your phone if you attempt to downgrade your radio after flashing the new SPL. Not sure why you would want to anyways...
How to tell if you just need to re-flash:
1.) Your phone is stuck on the g1 logo
2.) Your phone is stuck in a boot loop
3.) Home+Power boots into recovery
If you answered yes to the above then you are NOT bricked. You have the G1 Night Light. This is (usually) a very easy fix.
The usual scenario is: You just upgraded your radio and/or the SPL on your phone and now you are trying to turn it on with no luck.
How to fix: After you upgrade your radio and/or SPL, you need to wipe a rom on the phone. For a plain almost stock feeling rom, checkout http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/24/jfv151-images-are-out/ if you are looking for hero, checkout the tutorial at g1upgrade.com.
I have also noticed when you flash hero, it will stay on the g1 logo for 5 or 6 minutes and then it'll finally start loading. Make sure your not being impatient and give it several minutes if you have just flashed a rom.
Last step:
If you have installed a new radio, then spl, then a new rom and you STILL get the g1 screen. Try it all over again. You probably didn't do something right. You don't need to ask questions in 30 different threads, your issue is not unique. You just need to search for some answers.
*Saved for future posts*
Edit:
Thanks! Updated.
I flashed the SPL before the radio whenever Haykuro released the Hero ROM and I didn't brick my device. Guess that I just got lucky. Thank goodness I know better now. haha
it's possible you flashed the radio prior to the SPL, only a loooong ways back.
Another thing to try if you are having issues is:
su
rm -r /system/sd/*
I was stuck in a boot loop and a quick ext3 wipe did the trick. The command should be able to be ran from console or terminal. You may need to mount /system with:
mount -t -rw,remount -o yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
You would need to type that in between the commands above . I ran across this in another post but i think this is a good spot for it too .
Duplicate post...
thanx
At least I know now how to tell if I bricked my phone or just flashed it badly thanks for this.

many people who flashed the new SPL before the radio are stuck at the G1 splash logo, but cannot get to recovery or spl bootloader / fastboot mode regardless of what they do, so this bit might be misleading...
they aren't technically "bricked" b/c it's loading the radio rom, but it never hands off to the SPL, so there is currently no way of reloading either of those to make the device do anything useful -- essentially a brick

This is exactly what happened to me, it was a brick, sent for repair and they replaced the mainboard.
I have fixed 2 phones that had no recovery and stuck at the g1 screen. If someone has this problem message me and I'll help you fix.
Good Job
Sorry this is off topic. But...
Thank you for this thread!
Ok,
By the way, has anyone figured out what The difference in the baseband is?? I have a U in mine...

really? if it can't get to recovery / fastboot mode nobody has published a fix w/o a hardware swap.
what's your method?
I will buy a bricked one off ebay and post the steps I do to get it back. I can only fix the "Night Light", I can't fix a truly bricked phone (yet).

NOO. lol.. Dont send him there. Because if he already has no idea what hes doing then I have to listen to it.
Try to get into fastboot or recovery. If you dont know how to do this STOP MESSING WITH IT.
I cannot understand how people can buy things without any research for what they want to do with it.
If you didnt make a goldcard, then right there you didnt get anywhere on the phone. If you didnt use the FIXed spl rom I said to use on the goldcard you didnt make, then you really didnt get anywhere.
But if you see an HTC magic screen rather then the Fender mytouch screen I assume you got at least that far.
Hold volume down and power and ses if you get a white screen with 3 androids on bottom. From there we can fix it.
but you didnt read my thread on the fact that ONLY the stock everything wil
I Have the same problem!
Am I covered by guarantee if i will not solve the problem?

Bricked, I think?

so get this...
I just rooted my sensation and was waiting for a custom ROM to download through the phones browser. My buddy came over and I was setting him up with root for his Aria and for some reason his phone got stuck after getting s off. I tried to use adb to flash the recovery to his phone but it just said "waiting for device" forever. After about 10 mins I said forget it, too nice outside and unplugged his phone, I didn't think to close adb first but I put my phone on the usb to charge and then it instantly flashed the Aria recovery to my phone.................
Good news is I can root his phone knowing it was the wrong installed driver before. Bad news is I now can only get into fastboot (white screen, skating androids at the bottom) where it still says revolutionary at the top but I can see the Aria's radio and the wrong HBOOT version. I still have the factory reset, recovery etc options but if it boots up it'll get stuck at the stock HTC image. I tried flashing CWM recovery through adb the exact same way but it just says waiting for device now too? I may have typed the code wrong or do I need Aria drivers now? I assume there is a way out since I'm still in fastboot but not sure.
Any help would be appreciated and thanked! Until then, its back to my g2x, its not so bad...
you would need to download the RUU (Rom Update Utility) for your phone, where you get it I have no idea, hopefully another more skilled member will be able to point you in this direction..... I got the Vodafone uk one from a thread on here but I for the life of e can not remember where.
Nah I figured it out, I downloaded the img file and flashed the zip in hboot, then used adb to push the stock radio back up. I was really scared there for awhile but thanks to this place I got a bunch of help.. Love this place.. Thanks anyway though man!
It's good to know that a bad radio no longer prevents booting to hboot. I bricked a g1 back in the day from having an hboot and radio that were incompatible with each other. The thing wouldn't boot to anything other than a special service mode that is only useful if you solder in a hardware jtag.

[Q] Flashed the wrong PG58IMG.zip

Very much a noob when it comes to Android phones and I have been working through the process to get a custom Rom on my HTC Sensation. I started following the instructions in this thread [Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on and successfully completed step one, achieving s-off on the phone.
In step two things went badly wrong. Following the instructions I downloaded clockwork recovery and copied the PG58IMG onto my sd card, at least I thought I did. What I now realize is that since I had been doing a lot of reading and research on this topic before attempting it for the first time I had downloaded several relevant files in advance, one of which is the PG58IMG file from this thread [DEV] HTC Sensation & HTC Sensation XE firmware | Partitions Info | [01.03.2012 and it was this file that I put on the sd card. Obviously not what I should have flashed at all. Especially since it seems that the tool which would help me out of this mess is the one I just failed to install properly.
So the situation is that the phone loops constantly on startup when booting normally. When I boot into HBOOT with the SD card in it tries to update again and when that fails, gives no option but to reboot. If I remove the SD card then I get access to the following screen -
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-10.14.9035.01_M
eMMC-boot
and below the options -
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC
I have tried connecting the phone to my computer at this stage but I cant get FASTBOOT USB and adb cant find any devices either. Am I completely stuffed at this point? If not, if anyone can help me out with some instructions on what to do here I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks,
Webba
So have you tried to go into recovery once your in bootloader ? what happens then ?
If you get the correct files onto your sd card via a card reader, then put it in the phone, bootloader should attempt to update the new correct files.
I have tried going into recovery, it comes up with a pic of a phone with a green circle, followed by a phone with a red triangle, followed by going into the boot cycle. This is with the sd card removed. Am I right in thinking that if I get the right files onto the card and then run recovery with the sd card in it will work?
If you run BOOTLOADER then it should do... Make sure you remove the old PG58IMG before putting the new one on.
Thanks so much, I will try it as soon as I can. I assume I will find the right stock rom somewhere on these forums?

My Sensation was purchased in Hong Kong, after looking at the lists at shipped-roms this one - RUU_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198358_signed.exe
seems to be most likely correct. Can anyone more knowledgeable confirm this? I would hate to flash the wrong thing again.
did you successfully get superCID ? if so i do believe that you can flash any RUU / ROM
Im not 100% on this as im still new to the sensation myself, But im sure thats the whole point in having SuperCID
Unfortunately I dont have superCID. I was following the instructions pretty slavishly and the superCID setup is one step after clockwork
Is there a way to get superCID in my phones current state? From what I am reading I need it to at least hook up to adb which it is not doing at the moment so I assume I just have to get the right onto the sdcard to have any chance of it working, right?
Yes, You need clockwork mod before SuperCID. Have you tried to re download CWM and put it on sd card ? It could have just been a bad download, it happens to us all.
Download it again, Remove the previous PG58IMG from SD Card via a card reader (if you have one) Put the new PG58IMG on SD card. Pull battery out, Put SD Card back into the phone, put battery back in and boot into bootloader (volume down + Power)
Bootloader should automatically find the PG58IMG and ask if you want to update it, Select yes and theoretically you should be fine..
EDIT: Use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=706572&d=1314848127
Yeah, I have re-downloaded CWM and made sure it is the right one I have to wait until the shops open here so I can pick up a micro sdcard reader but I will try the new CWM first, and if that fails then I will try the stock rom. Am I right in thinking that neither of this is likely to make the situation worse, even if they dont work?
No providing bootloader still works everything is fix-able..
We aint messing with bootloader so u will be ok.
Cant believe you dont have a card reader lol....
lol, up until today the only thing I needed to be able to read micro sd cards was the phone. Well, I will be better prepared next time anyway.
The thing that had me worried is that since I originally didn't realize PG58IMG was not a unique file name I am almost certain that the one on my sd card at the moment is not even CWM at all but one of the updated firmware ones I mentioned in the OP that I very stupidly mistook for it. It feels like a really serious mistake to make, but happy to know that if the boot loader is working then it should be fixable. I wasn't sure even about that.
I think the PG58IMG is a unique code that the phone reads and recognises as something to be flashed / updated.
Ive seen various things CWM / Firmwares / Updates with the same PG58IMG title. so maybe youre right and the original file you downloaded wasnt the correct one.
Dont panic, Keep calm, Ask questions, Get answers...... This is the only way to avoid a bricked phone
Yeah, you've saved me a lot of stress already. Ill be back in a few hours with the results of the next attempt. Thanks again!
Ok, the news is not great. I got hold of a micro sd adaptor so I could plug it into my computer and removed the old PG58IMG. I put the correct one (downloaded from this thread) on the sd card and rebooted the phone into HBOOT. It recognizes the file on the sd card but gets a cid fail and there is no option but to reboot which goes into the boot cycle.
Whats worse is that doing this apparently fries the sdcard. I tried it twice, because I am sucker for punishment and in both cases the sdcard is unreadable afterwards.
Maybe I should try and explain more clearly that I am now sure the PG58IMG that I first put on the card and flashed I am sure is the Firmware from 3.32.401.x & 3.32.401.10x RUU from this thread. It appeared to successfully update before rebooting the phone into its current state, causing me to realize I had the wrong file. I dont understand enough to know exactly whats going on but it seems pretty bad. Do you think I should try a 3rd sdcard with the Shipped ROM on it or is there something else I should do at this point?
Edit - The second sd card wasn't fried after all, but I am still searching for a shipped rom that isnt in .exe format, since the phone isnt connecting to the computer by usb at all right now. Anyone know where I can find one?
Edit - Ok, now I have fastboot usb which means I can use .exe shipped roms. adb devices cant find the phone though which means I cant superCID it which means I still have to find the right ROM. Since I brought the phone from HK I am trying all the asian ones first. Anyone know specifically which file at shipped-roms.com is the right one?
You flashed firmware for ics rom, so the stock rom won't boot and you have bootloop. If you flash the 3.12 firmware ( works for both ics and gb) that will resolve the loop and you will be able to continue with the guide and flash cwm.
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using xda premium
Hey Stringer7, do you mean this Firmware from 3.12.401.2/102 RUU available in the same thread? I will download it and give it a try.
edit - Gave it a try, I get CID incorrect from it too. Seems like CID incorrect for everything I try to flash atm.
What is your CID ??
Unfortunately I dont know. I didn't know I needed it before I started and now since the phone isn't talking to adb I cant use it to find out. All I know is that I bought the phone from Hong Kong about 6 months ago. Is there a way to check the CID with the phone the way it is now?

Rogers RUU for EVO 3D that doesn't boot

ROGERS RUU RECOVERY METHOD FOR ROGERS EVO 3D PHONES
Hello, I am new to XDA and I don't know much about rooting, but unlike most noobs, I am not here to ask for help.
A few days ago I was trying out rooting and was pretty pleased with what I could do, so I went ahead and tried to flash my stock rom to VIPER rom. This did not work as planned, as I tried to flash my phone with a CDMA rom, and not a GSM rom. My phone is a GSM phone. This obviously left my phone hanging at the HTC screen, and I thought I wrecked my beautiful 500$ phone. After 5 hours of frantic research, at 3 o'clock in the morning, I discovered something called an RUU. Unfortunately, most of them were for US phone providers, and me being from Canada, I had a rogers phone. After trying a few(and failing), finally, I found an RUU that could work, but it was an executable, and would not connect to my phone. As I had access to REVOLUTIONARY, I could still access my files on my sd card, and wondered if I could extract the PG86IMG.zip and put it on my sd card to do a factory reset and reinstall everything. Luckily, it actually worked and my phone was brought from the dead and ran as if I just bought it.
So in the next few posts I will explain how to do it for the few who are in the same situation as me with a ROGERS EVO 3D. This most likely will not work for any other phone. It might work for another supplier's GSM EVO 3D, but I have not tested it and I don't recommend it unless you have nothing else to try or you really want rogers bloatware.
Procedure
PROCEDURE
This procedure SHOULD work if you have a ROGERS EVO 3D phone, as I imagine they are all the same. However if it doesn't, you must realize that you are doing this at your own risk and I am not responsible if your phone gets damaged in any way.
NOTE: This will set the phone back to its original state when you first bought it.
If your phone was SIM Unlocked, it will not remove the Unlock.
1. Make sure your phone is charged. I don't know what could happen if you run out of juice when flashing back to stock ROM but I don't want to and I have a feeling that neither do you. Just leave it plugged in to the wall for two hours just to be safe.
2. Before you do anything, make sure that you can get into the HBOOT. This is fairly easy, just take out the battery, put it back in and then hold both the power button and the volume down button until the HBOOT shows up. If it does show up, great, shut off your phone and move on to the next step. If it doesnt show up, keep trying. After 3 tries if it doesnt work, there are three reasons for this.
A) Your phone isn't charged. Plug it into the wall for two hours.B) Your HBOOT is screwed up and you cant reach it. I can't help you with that. Look somewhere else or take it in to your warranty/provider.C) You are having hardware problems. Faulty battery, phone charger not working, power button not working, volume button not working, all things you might want to check if you can. Look somewhere else or take it in to your warranty/provider.
3. Access your/a microSD. You might have noticed when you went inside your HBOOT that it was searching for a file. That file is actually the file that we need that will allow us to reset the phone to provider default. There are two different ways to access this.
A) Take out the card and connect it to the computer using a adapter. This is probably the easiest way and is almost guaranteed to work.
B) Since you have rooted your phone (and are in this unfortunate position) you might be familiar with a tool called REVOLUTIONARY (Previously called ClockWorkMod). Note this is only available if you have REVOLUTIONARY installed. You can access it in the HBOOT by scrolling down using the volume buttons to RECOVERY, hitting the power button to select, in REVOLUTIONARY going to mounts and storage and then select mount USB storage. Connect the usb adapter in both your phone and in your computer. It will show up in My Computer as if it is a flash drive. I used this method.
4. Download this file: http : //www . filefactory . com/file/49tsgwxc6bd3/n/FACTORY_RECOVERY_File_For_ROGERS_EVO_3d_zip (Remove the spaces. I am not allowed to post links till 8 posts in total so I must do this.)
Mirror:
5. Put the attached file onto the hard drive. Extract the "FACTORY_RECOVERY_File_For_ROGERS_EVO_3d.zip" and place the "PG86IMG.zip" on the root of the microSD. Plop the card back in the phone, turn off the phone once again and re-enter into HBOOT. The phone will find the PG86IMG.zip file and then ask if you would like to update. Scroll to yes, press the power button to select it, and watch. This process should take up to 3 - 6 minutes.
6. Once everything is said and done, it might reboot, but if it doesn't you can reboot it yourself. Start up your phone, and watch in amazement when your ROGERS screen appears and the phone comes back to life.
RE-ROOTING
This guide is pretty much a slightly modified version of zedomax's guide on youtube, and should work for any CDMA phone (but I can't confirm it) and certain GSM phones, including Rogers.
Re-rooting is a bit more sketchy as rooting for the first time (at least it was for me).
This guide is only for windows computers (Since the mass population of people only use windows, and if you have a mac, you probably have an iPhone. If you have Linux, you probably know how to make a unicorn pop out of the phone, so you don't need a guide.)
Before you do anything, you need to check the HBOOT version. This is absolutely crucial. Some HBOOT's are not supported, so if you try with the wrong HBOOT, you might totally destroy your phone. For good this time.
To be continued...
I realise that there may not be many people in the same position as me for a while, so feel free whenever to send me a message if you need help. I will most likely keep the files for a few years on my external hard drive.
