if I send a mail with the iPhone comes a tone. Is that possible with an android? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, if I send a mail with the iPhone comes a tone. Is that possible with an android?

Holy crap that font is GIANT. Was that necessary or just an iphone thing? Anyway, what? If you send an email on your iphone it makes noise? What?

it comes a sound!

When you send an email on the iPhone, and the send is complete/successful, you get a "whoosh" sound.
No it's not possible on the Android.

Why ist that not possible?

I find this kind of silly since I know I am sending an e-mail, why do I need a sound to tell me something I already know

It's not silly. The Mail.app on the Mac does the same thing.
What the sound does is tell you that the email has successfully left your outbox. Kind of handy to have an audible confirmation of that if you've switched out of the mail app and are doing something else.
Many times on my Androids I've had emails stuck in the outbox with no knowledge of it until I wondered why no reply and had to go to the outbox within the app.
I don't miss it on my droids, but I didn't mind it on my iPhones.
Some may not like the feature, some may love it, but I wouldn't call it silly.

yes, but it is not really necessary
if you are using PUSH email as most of us should probably be doing (i know i am) then as soon as you sent the email
you just need to check on your AllMail folder
if it's there, then it sent out properly
if it's not there, then it did not go out
yahoo mail, works very similar too, using the yahoo mail app
even apps like K9 have access to sync via SMTP
the only problematic email are people stuck on Hotmail and Exchange Servers, those are well... kind of on their own, until a better email app comes around to support microsoft stuff

Is the stock gmail app a push email client? o.o

I get the stuck outgoing emails and the ONLY email app I use is the stock version of gmail.apk, which only talks to google.
Background syncing on, data connection always enabled, etc.
I'm not arguing it's necessary, but like everything else, it would be a nice "option" to have.
Sometimes the only way to clear it is to go to settings and clear data.

I've had the same issue of emails getting stuck in both the gmail client and the email client.
It's irrelevant of the type of email account, as the emails appear to get stuck when there is a lapse of connectivity.

Yahoo Email POP

Whats up everyone. This is the first thread I've started and was careful to run multiple searches and read thru a ton of treads before posting it. I'm hoping someone can give me a definitive answer as to if it's possible to get your Yahoo email via some sort of POP without paying for their premium service.
I've used XpressMail (I have a Cingular 8525) and that seemed to work, but it's just a terrible program that I didn't like. I do have work email that uses an Outlook server and that works fine, but I can't get my Yahoo to work. I don't even need push, I would be happy to have a program on my PDA/cell that will just check it every 15 minutes or so.
Yahoo Go! seems to be something that would work, but they don't have 2.0 for my phone yet and it seems there is a huge memory leak issue with 1.0.
Outside of Xpress Mail and Go are there any suggestions for receiving Yahoo email on my phone?
Thanks!

Works for me as normal POP. I have a yahoo.co.uk email address, and can use both pop.mail.yahoo.com and pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk, without paying for anything.

Cool!! I didn't know it was that simple, I've been using Ypops! for a while, when in fact there's no need for that !1
The problem now is that outlook retrieves ALL messages from my inbox folder. in Ypops I could retrieve only the UNREAD messages in the inbox, which is very helpful. I don't wanna download all 1700+ emails which are on the yahoo account. I know there's a possibility to keep a copy on the server, but it's not what I want... Its would take almost 1 GB to download it all
Is there a way to configure Outlook (without using Ypops) to retrieve only unead messages????
Yahoo! Japan also allows POP without paying for anything...
I would have to sign up for a new yahoo.uk account though, correct? I would really like to keep my current email account as I've had it for about 10 years now...

Yes, as I've also explained in my related tutorial (please DO keep an eye on my articles and check my even older ones - they may prove very helpful) at, say, http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42913 , it's only the "standard" yahoo.com that doens't have FREE pop3 access. All the others do.
Please DO read the above article, I've explained everything in there.

Well, am I missing something?? I have a @yahoo.com account, I didn't upgrade to yahoo plus, but still can receive and send email through Outlook, using the simple pop3 and smtp settings. How is that possible?? in the internal setting of yahoo, I've set it up to UK/Ireland, so I could try the Yahoo mail BETA (which I didn't like)
Anyway - I take the chance to ask again my question - is it possible to let Outlook download ONLY the UNREAD emails in my inbox???
Thanks

I did read your excellent article prior to posting Menneisyys. It was very informative. I was just hoping that some else may have come up with a solution or if all the @yahoo.com users really are screwed.
Kamal- would you mind telling me exactly what settings you are using in yahoo itself and also in Outlook? Thanks!

I can access my account via POP3 on my 8525 for free. And yes I'm in America. It's pretty much the same way as the uk version just without the .uk

How do I email a distribution/contact list in the gmail app?

You'd think this would be a built in feature...I have a group of people I need to email on a regular basis, but the only way I can do it in the gmail app is by "Reply All" to a previous email and delete all the old email/subject...
Why in heaven's name can't I easily email multiple people from the app? I can do it online on my laptop...am I missing something here, or is this just a glaring oversight on Google's part?
Really? Nobody knows this?

Oversight.
Best suggestion, as you've already figured out, is save a draft with the contact info.

That seems like a pretty big oversight...what a bunch of goons. Thanks.
These are the same guys that omitted sending to groups in the text messaging program.

Ha, that's a very good point that I had forgotten...
Nothing chaps my ass more than little **** like that that's forgotten/omitted.
A year later, and those fools still haven't updated the app so users can send emails to distribution lists they've setup. Jerks.
A working solution
This method was described somewhere on these forums, and it works. I am just repeating what someone else discovered.
Make a new contact, using a name which is meaningful to you.
For the email address, build a list of the emails for everyone in the group, using this pattern:
[email protected]>,<[email protected]>,<[email protected]>,<[email protected]
NOTE the >,< between each contact, but nothing before the first email in the list, and nothing after the final email in the list.
This works around the missing group function.
Download and use ContactGroupU from the Google Play store.
on your computer go to gmail and add those contacts in some group and call it something for example "912dd" and go on the app and in the "To:" Area start typing the name "912dd" and select it when it shows up

Best Email app? Stock is garbage

What is everyone using as their email app? The google stock one is garbage. I need similar options as Microsoft Outlook.
Specifically I need a better way to handle junk/trash mail and specify what is junk and what is not junk. Lately my email went nuts and is sending important email to the trash file before I see it. It is picking random mail and sending it to the trash.
Also my email appears to longer work with wifi. That is a must for me at the office.
Mods, I realized I posted this in the wrong forum after hitting the post button. Please move to Q&A.
Enhanced Email is pretty good. I tried Touchdown and Moxier and didn't care for either. K-9 would have fit for me if I hadn't the need of push email from exchange.
K9 has not been updated in a long time and the recent reviews were very poor. I will give Enhanced Email a shot.
If anyone else has any ideas, I am open to anything.

Highlighted Email Text

I want to report something that I'm not sure is a bug. I guess I just need some advice
When using the AOSP-based Corporate email app, I'm getting unintentionally highlighted text in my messages
Example:
If I open my email app and search for "hello", I see all emails that contain the word "hello". Also, the text within the email "hello" is highlighted in yellow.
If I reply or forward that message, the highlighted text persists which can be seen by all recipients.
I can duplicate it on my friend's stock Galaxy Nexus and on my Galaxy S3. It happens with all AOSP based email apps (4.0+).
The really strange thing is that I can't find anyone online who is reporting the same thing. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
No idea but I find AquaMail to be a awesome email client, maybe switch if it meets your requirements?

It doesn't work for me. I need full Exchange 2010 integration and AquaMail only operates with IMAP / POP enabled. I'm wondering if it is just my Exchange server. I find it hard to believe that no one else has reported this. I'm wondering if maybe this was a "feature" added by Google and I'm just not seeing the value haha
Thanks for your reply

Email app that allows scheduled sending

Quite a few years ago I used a default emailing app that came with my phone. (Could've been Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4...can't remember). The thing I really enjoyed was the ability to set a time when you wanted an email to be sent.
I haven't found anything like it since so was hoping XDA folks could recommend an email app that allows me to have multiple accounts on the app and whereby I can choose the date and time those emails get sent.
(Currently using TypeApp on my Android phone but that doesn't have the ability to schedule sending).
Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried Boomerang before but it doesn't work for personal emails hosted on own domains. Seems that it only works with Gmail and Exchange type set ups.
Also, the fact that it is a separate app from Gmail defeats the purpose of using it with Gmail.
Having one app that I can do all my emails is the preferable route.

I searched for you and found others that also wanted it certain ways but in all cases they never found a solution, all they got was a suggestion to use boomerang.
You can probably try using google assistant or some other assistant type app along with your calender app or even Tasker to get this to work however choose. Other than those options, I don't know what else to say, maybe someone else has other suggestions.

Way back, I tried backing up that Samsung built-in email app and restoring it with Titanium Backup but I don't remember having any luck with going that route.
I use Handcent Next SMS as my go to app for sending texts because it can schedule sending e.g. yearly, monthly etc. Great for when you send someone a birthday text overseas and you're still sleeping. :good:
Now if only these SMS apps can figure out how old the person is from contact information and the message wished them a happy 39th birthday instead of just saying happy birthday.
I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of these scheduled type apps as it's so handy to schedule a message ahead of time e.g. for someone's birthday.

You could always try porting that app to work with what you have now or get someone else to do it.

I don't remember what phone it was on but could try and find out.
How would I go about porting the app to work or is there a forum to ask someone to do it.
If I remember correctly, I was rooted at that time so could hopefully copy the APK but not sure if there were any other linking files to copy with it.
Thanks.

I don't know what you need to port the app, I'm just saying it can be done if you prefer to use that app. Porting that app seems to be the most likely solution to what you're looking for. There doesn't seem to be any other options that will work in the manner you want or with just one app like you want.
