Fishbone Case Review [UPDATE 2] Stealthguards not in yet - G2 and Desire Z Accessories

Pictures are in my photobucket since there is a max of only 8 pictures.
http://s1133.photobucket.com/albums/m592/jeffdoodoo/
I got my case in the mail
The cases are made MYBAT
So there are three pieces:
1.)the top (for the screen)
2.)The 1st layer (the back)
3.)The 2nd layer (the back)
The 1st layer for the back is basically the same material as the otterbox case since the otterbox also has 3 pieces. (it flexes and feels like like it)
The 2nd layer for the back is a hard plastic but with a matte finish to it.
The top piece that goes on the screen is a hard plastic and also has a matte finish.
The cut outs are perfect and the 1st layer of the case lays on top of your volume keys and power button and has the power sign and the positive and negative signs.
The case is easy to take off. The case is probably as thick as an otterbox case. But the thicker the better right?
NEGATIVE
When the case is on and you open your keyboard there will be a NOTICEABLE gap due to the clips of the case stopping the case from fully opening.
POSITIVE
I like how the phone feels protected with the case on and it look very stylish

the manufacturer is mybat, but some sellers on amazon are selling it cheaper than buying one from the original mybat website.
just search "G2 fishbone" on amazon.

Tomorrow should be the big day, so lets say a big hooray!
and if not... then I'll cry with a lot of snot ): lol jk. but lets hope it come in tomorrow!

well it didnt come in today ): it has tomorrow!

YES IT CAME IN AND NOW ITS READY FOR A REVIEW! stealthguards hasnt come in in yet.

Does it become more heavy than it is? And how thicker does it get.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Its probably about the same thickness as an otterbox (maybe even less)
Weight? umm seems as light as 2 unused, unsharpened pencils?
When I hold the case alone, it feels light as a feather.

I'm having trouble deciding. Lol. I like the finish on this case but I like how the Otterbox case goes around the trackpad. I don't like the finish on the Otterbox case though, seems too glossy.

Well I dont like "around the track pad" cases.
If you use the track pad a lot: Get a case that doesn't go around the track pad
If you dont use the pad or you dont care: Get any case that goes around or not around the pad.
I say that because I use my track pad a lot and when I have an "around the track pad" case on, it seems to get in the way.
The finish feels like the phone (matte finish). Otter box? idk
My G2 with the fishbone case slides in my pocket just fine.

I rrreeeaaaallly am digging the way it looks.

I get what you mean about the track pad, I really don't use it too much.
In my opinion though, having the case surround the track pad looks more aesthetically pleasing. Lol. I'll have to go search for one in stores and see for myself.

Nice I need to order
Looks very nice indeed! Might have to get one too, to interchange with my Otterbox case.
Though ive got a slight worry that glossy black will scratch like a motherducker in no time.
If anyone gets one can you post some pictures and maybe a video too? Curious to see what that plastic is like. Cheers!
I was gonna go for a casemate tough, but I think I might wait for this, looks very nice.

Sounds great, be sure to take lots of pictures.
Results are in!
Got it on, and loving it! Extremely perfect fit. 100% top quality. It's all one piece, so getting it on is a bugger, but once it's on, you can't tell it's a case unless you know what the phone looks like without it. The light gray part is very soft, and very comfortable to hold. It does not add extra bulk when holding it, but just enough, so now it rest better in my palm. The glossy hard black part makes it look so sexy. Overall a great feeling case. The buttons are the easiest to push now. Even though they stick out ever so slightly they don't look out of place like the OtterBox commuter case. They have a dimple on the inside also which helps press the buttons on the phone, so you no longer need to press firmly, but just a gentle press works fine, but not so gentle that you would press it by mistake. The rubber around the screen is a great fit. It goes all the way to the glass, so you no longer have that aluminum edge there. All in all a great case. I highly recommend it.

Nope. The lens is slightly inside the case. The entire phone lies perfectly flat. Actually the shinny black back doesn't even touch the surface when it's on its back, so that won't get scratched by sliding the phone on a table or anything. The soft gray side grips are slightly raised from the case, so the middle is actually off the ground (I tried taking a pic of that, but it just looks like it's sitting flush, so I didn't add those).

So, the thing is a ***** to fit into initially.
Will it give way after a while so you can get it in and out easily, or is it some hard plastic that won't yield or wear down? Do you guys who own one see any way of modifying it for quicker removal?
I'd really like a case but I do not want to lose the ability to use my device for satnav, and I already have the Brodit cradle mounted....

The shinny black part is very hard plastic, and since the very soft gray part is fused to it, it is really really hard to get in and out. I almost feel like if I push any harder I'm going to break one or the other, but the soft part is just soft enough to get it in there. I don't see how it could get easier over time. It's one of those cases that once it's on, it's on for a long long time. Compared to the OtterBox Commuter case that one seems like it can fall off, and the Pop case seems like it was actually made into the phone, and not to come off without a struggle, but if I had to make a choice I would pick the Pop case 100% of the time. Again if you compare them side by side the OtterBox looks like it was made for a kid to play with, and the Case-Mate one that you buy tickets to see it in a museum. It is that good!
Thanks a lot for the quick reply mate. I was thinking that maybe one could cut or file down one of the plastic ridges that snap into place around the screen to hold the device.
I done that ages ago on a case for a XDA mini, and it worked quite nicely but obviously there is a thin line between making the in and out easier and making the case unusable by cutting in too far...
Again thanks for your input...

Thank you for good products to introduce.

[Q] Has anyone ever tried this one-piece skin?

I never use my keyboard and I was wondering if this case would be better since it makes the phone sturdier by securing the keyboard and maybe make it a little thinner.
Has anyone tried this case or one like it?

They have one in black: http://www.amazon.com/iNcido-Brand-...ES/ref=sr_1_36?ie=UTF8&qid=1301021620&sr=8-36.
In fact, I think the cheapest option is to get 5 of them lol: http://www.amazon.com/iNcido-Samsun...C8/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1301021593&sr=8-18
I'm still on the fence on this, but even if they suck, it's still less than $10 down the drain.
Unfortunately, having just bought one of the black cases above, I can say that it is absolutely, positively, NOT "one-piece". It's a standard 2-piece slider-type case.
Sigh. (sadly tosses one more case onto the growing pile of unloved cases on my dresser)
Case history so far:
Seidio: meh.
Seidio ActiveX: nice hand feel, but a major 5-minute pain to disassemble the phone when the battery dies after 4 hours, and makes it impossible to use the camera button without shaking the phone.
Aluminum Milano: would rock, if it were made from plastic. When it's closed, the phone is rock-solid, and you'd never even know the keyboard is there. Unfortunately, it's aluminum, and has a family tree that clearly began back when Sprint phones still had real antennas. Putting the phone in it instantly nukes at least one bar, makes bluetooth flaky, and renders the GPS unusable under most circumstances. Worse, the metal picks up stray cat hairs and screws up the touchscreen. As the final deathblow, it covers the top part of the touchscreen, so pulling down the window doesn't work. Totally and completely unusable.
Silicone case from this thread: I can't definitively say I hate it, but I'm still bummed out that it actually IS a 2-piece case. That said, it's nicer than I thought silicone-type cases would be and is fairly easy to remove, so I'll probably keep it on for a few days unless it seriously annoys me in some as-yet unforeseen way. However, the sides are totally unsecured, and I have a hunch my back pocket isn't going to be kind to it.
It'll be just my luck that someone will finally come out with a plastic Milano, or a one-piece silicone case, two weeks after I've already bought my next phone in October.
I hear ya brother, why not try one of those skins that protect the phone. I wanna get one but not sure which one.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
This case is HORRIBLE.
Its a cheaply cut silicone 2 piece case. With a CHEAP FLIMSY plastic "rail" sliding groove. When I tried to put it on my phone, the plastic rail part broke, and rendered the case useless.
It doesnt fit well, is MUCH to large for the Epic, and feels like cheap silicone.
I returned it to the seller for the $5. Had to pay return shipping too.
Otterbox Commuter all day guys. best case ive found for this phone. adds a lil bulk to it but its tough and comes with a warranty from otterbox. 1 reccomendation tho if you do get the otterbox commuter series, there are 2 clips at the top, bottom and 2 on the left side of the top front piece. BRAKE THE 2 CLIPS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE THAT ARE ON THE SIDE! It will still stay on your phone without a problem. I learned that those clips on the side will scratch your keyboard up a lil bit but not TOO horrible, they no longer have a glossy look, look more mat finish but luckily the lettering and FN symbol have not scratched off, i however am OCD about this stuff and learned the hard way but for as many times as i drop my phone, hands down best case on the market if your lookin for protection. it's smaller than the bodyglove, atleast to me it seems smaller, and for those of you who NEED to wear it on the side they do have a pouch thatll fit it. I manage a Cell Phone accessory cart in Florida so as an Epic user I'm always lookin and tryin new cases. if you guys have any question about accessories PM me =D
I can vouch for otterbox. I had the defender for my BB tour back in the day and it was amazing, to say the least. I dropped it from chest height (I am 6' 5") and it hit the cement and bounced. Zero damage to the phone itself and only a little scuff on the case. Otterbox is like having your phone inside an Abrams Tank.

Like the OP, that's all I'm looking for too... I want my phone to feel like it's a nice candy-bar phone, I don't want it to shake and rattle like my screen is about to fall off.

Hi,
I just ordered this case too. Why do you say it's not worth the price? What aren't u happy about? Can you give me some insight while I can still cancel the order?
I picked this one cause It's clear and it has the rubber feel (I dont like the solid cases like the S shape one).
Btw, I never used a case before, I always had my phones naked but I don't want to risk with this baby N4
Case does great for me. Means I can hold it safer without risk of dropping
Some pictures to try and help - not sure they actually show anything.
My only negative feedback so far: Sometimes I think the power button isn't as responsive as I'd like because of the extra plastic cover but that's minor and I'll get used to pressing the button a little more.
I've actually got the exact same case on my phone as I type this. I quite like the case, it's cheap so I can't really complain about it.

I have this case too (smoke version). I'm quite impressed with it TBH. It's more rigid than the usual TPU cases and will offer a bit more protection (I hope)
You can still see the writing on the back through the case, but not the nice shiny bits.
It's not as 'grippy' when lying on the table as some of my previous cases, but grippy enough not to slide off easily.

Rubber feet to protect the glass and unmuffled sound

So I wanted to protect the back glass with a screen protector since I would generally be laying the phone down on it's back. I got one of those "apply when wet" guards and it went on ok. The only problem is, the material is so soft, it basically makes a seal on a flat table which cuts off the speaker completely. I only noticed when I was missing text messages, that the sound was significantly reduced from laying it down.
So I got these rubber feet So far, so good. I was afraid they would come right off, but they are on there pretty good. If they do come off, I still have 92 left! I might remove my back screen protector, if these work out. They aren't too hard to get used to when holding, but they certainly don't look the greatest. I attached some pics.

OP's idea is amazing! Agreed that the circular ones look ugly, but say something like two thin strips along the length of the phone, or two horizontal ones along the top and bottom curves?
How does one go about getting custom shapes like that?

agree, dont really like the idea of those rubber nubs, but I would think something a little less aggressive or strips running down the sides or tops. I like the idea, just not as pronounced.
I thought of this some time ago and actually sourced some 3M manufactured ones in transparent polyurethane with an acrylic adhesive. They make them as small as 6.4mm X 1.9mm. I have not found anywhere that sells them in anything less than bulk so I didn't order any. I am waiting to try a few more cases before I decide whether to do this, but am pretty happy with the diztronic TPU for now. My Poetic hardback is supposed to be here tomorrow. I am guessing that if the Poetic works well, and the phone will fit in it with the 3M pads on, I may go for it.
i bet you could find something at michaels.
It's not something I'd do, because how the device looks is a major selling point for me and this doesn't look great.
Not saying it's bad though, it's actually a very clever idea. I do worry about the back getting scratched and the muffled speaker is annoying, so nice job man

I have some extra feet from an old laptop that were supposed to go in the four corners of the screen so the screen wouldn't press against your keyboard. They're maybe 0.5cm wide. Definitely been thinking about doing this myself.
However, I got the bumper instead. Which is now making me think I might plastidip the backside of it so it becomes uber grippy.

Lol, yeah they aren't pretty. It's a work in progress until I can find some that are smaller.

Do you have a link to a bulk order?
Edit: I found these. Cheapest I can find is $234 for 3000 pieces. They are the same size as what I have, only clear. Would like to find something like a strip along the edge, to make it lower profile.

Afraid not, but yeah that's them, and they were about 7 cents a piece by the case.

LOL 5 bucks for 28 cents worth of product... that is some margin!
Honestly, if you were gong to do something like this, I would suggest a few things.
Go to a cabinetry or hardware store, to look for the bumpers. You would be surprised at what they have.
A better solution, which I was thinking of is dynamat, the non aluminum version.
Take a sheet of plain paper, use a pencil to make an exact tracing of the back of the phone. Use the rubbing method to make sure you know the exact edges.
Overlay onto the dynamat, and use an exact knife to cut out your new back, and add sound channels. But it seems like a lot of work though.

I'm thinking a drop of hot glue would do

that's a really really bad idea.. considering that glass could crack at the instant the heat from hot glue touches the glass surface
I never said put it on the glass. Think outside the box
