Hey I have an Epic 4G but I really like the "downloads "app that comes with the nexus s. Is it possible anyone could give me a link to the app from someones files?
P.S. Yes my phone is rooted, so I assume ill have to put the .apk in the system/app area.
Thanks, in advance!

There are actually two files and I have no idea which is which so here they both are. Install at your own risk!

Hmm, unfortunately neither worked. Well, the first one said I already had it, and when I pasted the second one, nothing really happened.
I wonder if there is a way around this.

DownloadProvider.apk & DownloadProviderUi.apk are stock Google files.
NVM, misunderstood request. See below response.
He wants the downloads app that comes stock on the nexus s for his epic.

I'm not really sure what the app you want is, and what exactly it does.
Can you provide a better description and maybe we can come up with an alternative?

Oh! I totally misread his request, I thought he was on an NS looking for something from the Epic.
The app in the drawer is the DownloadProviderUI.apk file. If that doesn't work for him, not sure what to do.
Maybe he needs the odex files as well...

Too bad its not the same thing.
Does anyone know if we could pull this apk from a desire rom, de-odex (if need be) then resign the apk and install?
Or would this widget need to live in /system?
Anyone know if there's a rom or leak out we could pull it from? I believe it would need to be from WVGA device...

Awesome! I'm new to Android (First smartphone here) but that doesn't work. I tried installing with AppInstaller and adjusted my phone settings to install apps not in the market.
No dice. It starts up like it is going to install, then says "Authorization Failed".
Could it be for a different build only?
Thank you anyhow.
Ditto. Doesn't work.
Yeah I said that earlier (in another thread). Probably gonna have to wait for root and ADB push it.
oh man so so close! I actually get to the point where its about to install, and then I get "Application not Installed" with the yellow exclamation point next to it. It even shows the newspaper icon! A little digging around, and some random posts suggest it has to do with 'application signing'.
Know anything about this?
Yea, you need superuser (root) access.
Hope you don't mind Gimpeh but I posted the apk on a few other sites to see if anyone else can do something with it. If they are able to get it working I will re-post it here most definitly.

So I did I metamorph to change my 3g icon and when I look through my file managers, whether its astro or root explorer I can't seem to find that file or same icon, iv done a search and it comes up with nothing. But from just looking around I can find different 3g icons but not the one I'm running. So I guess my question is, is there a way to find it or get rid of the morph I did?
Metamorph applies the image to the apk itself so the only way to view the file or revert back to what you had, you will either have to download and decompile the apk or reflash the previous apk to revert back.

You can do this for any ROM by modifying res/values/unrestricted_packages.xml within ContactsProvider.apk and adding:

com.facebook.katana

as one of the strings.

Sorry if that wasn't constructive in finding a solution for you
I guess I was pointing out that it wasn't something exclusive to CM. If you need help making this work for you, let me know which ROM version you need this for and the method(s) for transferring files on your phone that you're familiar with (ADB/CWM/etc). I'll try to get something up if somebody else doesn't beat me to it in the meantime.

There is no "values" folder in the res folder. Or maybe I just don't know how to make this work.

I did read through your tutorial and as far as I can tell, I did everything that you said... and I just confirmed that I do/did have Unknown Sources checked. The only big exception to your process is that I just downloaded it straight onto my phone, then used the file manager to move it into /system/apps.
Another question for you, if I wanted to have both the browser that came with my rom, AND the browser from 2.3.6, is that possible? And how would I go about doing that? I tried just changing the filename, but it failed to paste when I did that.
We don't have CM9. Check your phone model number under the battery. This is for the SGH-T959V. And if you mean CM7 - though that was released 4/21 - that is why it won't work. Find an alternative in the playstore.
Same answer for browser.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize I was under a specific phone section, I have the SGS2 (SGH-I777, AT&T version). I guess I'm incorrect in assuming that the .apk file needed is the same for all versions of the phone? And I wanted this memo back because I had backed up my memo's before flashing, but I am unable to get these memo's back without re-installing the same memo app, since the files were saved as .smm (Samsung memo file). And plus, I liked that memo app better than any others that I have found in the app store thus far.
You will fid your answers in the SGS2 forum.
Sadly, I've been unable to find the memo.apk file in the SGS2 forum...
You can generally download a rom that has the apk you want and extract it, then push to your phone.
