HI everyone
You probably dont know me, but I didt a very nice customization on the galaxy 5
The customization made the battery last 3 times longer and the system 2 as fast and the I/O benchmark in quadrant went from 550 to 3300
I noticed that the galasy 3 uses odin for firmware flashing so its quite the same to make these improvements
If anyone is interesting in testing, helping and check us at http://www.g5devteam.com
Or we also are located on the freenode irc
http://webchat.freenode.net channel #gti5500
Thanks
That's really nice ! Could you please PM me with useful information you've found ? Thanks .
Can you do a firmware like that for the GT-I5800 based on JPF?

Would be nice to have more custom Roms for our SG3
I'm very interested in a custom rom of JPF!!
About me, i can program in visual basic and some java too, but that wont help isnt it? If i can help, let me know i would be glad to help
looking forward to some results of your work on thins one A good performing ROM is very welcome on this phone. The hardware is not that bad, bad the software makes it a slow and annoying device...
tat wud be AWSOMe dude... WAiting for ur Work.
ur a rockstar if u do this successfully
so are these tweaks for eclair or froyo ?
It surely will be big for us G3 users to have a custom rom. I m eagerly waitin for it. Will help in testing the ROM
Quadrant scores of 3300 are surely a fake, even the galaxy s scores not more than 1400 to 2000 (if using loop on data which means danger of data loss). Check cyanogens idea of how to fake quadrant scores... but this has nothing to say about real life performance.
Could you give more details on what changes you made?
Edit:
Just seen in your changelog that you use ext2 on system, data and cache. Where eventually system, which should be r/o anyway, is good with ext2, data and maybe also cache could be risky to loose data on unclean shutdown due to having no journal.
News:
- Ported the ext2 to /system
- adb server running as root
- /system is rw
- Im using the I5800XXJPF.rar
- flashing is done via odin, using the PDA.tar file
- Performance increase already
- quadrant values are the same since /data and /cache are still rfs
im opening up a Galaxy 3 Section on forum.g5devteam.com, please feel free to post stuff there

I think that HW is not as goog as it should be for this price (comparing to LG Optimus One) - display resolution & graphics
and custom ROM with more options - YES

I want to update everyone right now about the status of this custom ROM. Motafoca is doing a superb job with this ROM.
So far I have seen (With comparison to stock 2.1 eclair, and cleaned versions of 2.2 JPF) a lot of bonuses.
17h and 18m since unplugged, display on for 1h45min, media server running for 2h 38min, gallery running for 34min, total call usage 27min, sent text messages 317, phone idle 14h 30min. And I'm still at 80% battery life!
Quadrant scores increased slightly in the 3d area, but all other quadrant scores stayed the same. The phone feels a lot faster when loading programs such as messaging and dialer. The phone overall feels a lot more responsive than the other two flashes.
So far this ROM is very promising! Motafoca's work is very well done
Barqers are you beta testing this rom? I did not see any downloads yet...

What would everyone suggest as far as custom ROM as the best one for least amount of RAM consumption throughout everyday use be it: games, apps (in general), phone, texting, etc. but still not really have to worry about opening task manager and tapping clear memory in the RAM tab after exiting apps?
I saw the other posts about RAM consumption but those are for other phones/tablets, I am posting in regards to my USCC Samsung Mesmerize SCH-i500 on 2.3.4 GB in particular, currently using just rooted stock ROM, nothing special (deodexed/debloated and/or themed).
After pressing clear memory it goes down to 211MB/348MB is there even a custom ROM that could manage to make it better?
I run Awesome Sauce 10.5 with voodoo leankernel v. 1.5. The author has configured it with memory in mind. My phone used to run around 300mb, now it hovers at just over 200mb.
There are also optimizations for 3g & wifi built in through Jakesmod. I used my Mesmerize pretty heavy (mp3 player 4-6 hrs, phone average 2hrs, internet 2-3 hrs.) during the course of 12 hours and the battery usually holds up. For average to light use I have gotten 22+ hours on a charge.
The only known issue I have is the Bluetooth, currently it is not working. The dev knows about the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm downloading those now, just for FYIs Awesome Sauce has been updated to 10.6
I know, I prefer the look & feel of 10.5.
I have posted some screen shots over there (cant seem to get it to work here). Be sure and reply with what you think of it!

I'm running MIUI v1.12.30 from the forums here and I'm very impressed with the show of the ROM. It has folder creation capabilities much like the iPod/iPhone, which is very nice if you like a condenced screen and my RAM hovers around 150 to 125 and I've got several games and memory management programs installed including Autokiller and JuiceDefender which help, but the phone does run a lot faster from what I've seen. I have a few issues with it that I'm working to get resolved but all in all it is a great ROM for my first selection. Hope that helps!

Yes, there's a teamhacksung's ICS build on rootzwiki, that is simply amazing. It combines well with supercharger and glitch v14.

Hi guys, in these days I'm trying many different roms to chose the best one. I've tried these: AndroidMe, codename android 1.3.3, CyanogenMod 9 v4.0.3 v2.1 and CyberGR-MOD with the respective stock-kernel but no one did satisfy my desires.
I just want these "mods"
- configurable Toggles in status bar (so that i can switch on and off 3g data just with 2 screen taps)
- Battery icon with % of battery left
- Configurable Lockscreen (I need at maximum 4 targets)
- TouchWake (the screen turns on with just a finger touch on it)
- Maximum frequence of cpu at 1,2 Ghz
Now comes the big problem! With all the roms I've tried some of this was not available. The best one was cyberGr-Mod, but I had a lot of battery drain.
Which combo Rom+ kernel do you suggest me to have the things I wrote before and also a great battery Life?
Thanks a lot
There are quite some points you want in your rom, I'm not sure if there is any that fits you needs.
But let's see:
- configurable Toggles in status bar (so that i can switch on and off 3g data just with 2 screen taps)

I know that feature only from CyanogenMod. That latest version (which you also tried) has them build in but not to a 100% complete. Almost every Rom needs some more development to get all the features implemented it should have, so maybe you need to wait a little.
- Battery icon with % of battery left

This option does not need to be implemented in a Rom, you can easily change the batter indicator yourself with just flashing the Icon you want. At least for CM9 there are some links in the Rom-Thread.
- Configurable Lockscreen (I need at maximum 4 targets)

I'm not sure if any Rom has that feature but it also sounds to me like this could be done by an additional program?

Most Roms and custom kernels have more overclocking, but that it no need at all. You could either use SetCPU to limit the cpu or for example a Rom like CM9, this has additional options to limit the cpu.
Now comes the big problem! With all the roms I've tried some of this was not available. The best one was cyberGr-Mod, but I had a lot of battery drain.

Why not taking cyberGR when you liked it most and try some other kernels till you find what you want. I would try either the GlaDOS kernel or the matr1x one and then trying different governors in the cpu settings.
aokp + air kernel
All that u want i have in my combo (ROM+Kernel). I use apex (bixie) v.1.0.0 + matr1x kernel v.16.5 (see a review of this combo on nexusshacks - really rocks, i get with normal usage almost 2 days of battery and there are really a lot of tweakable options).
The best combo i've tryied.
cheers.
If i helped u somehow, pls hit thanks button

forgot to mention, whatever rom u're using, try out NStools ans see if the tweakable options there avaliable are enough for u.

Sorry for the strange method to answer you but the multiquote-button didn't work
@ sean1984 : Which rom AOKP do you suggest me? is cyanogen the best AOKP or there is something better?
@ kalitza: I went suddenly to check the rom you suggested me on nexushacks, there are many positive comments but also some users which couldn't install the rom for some problems... above all, I will surely give it a try.
Now I'm testing Codename android 1.3.3 and everything except the statusbar toggles (limited to 4 and not customizable, that means no data toggle) seems to work well, i'll use it again a couple of days to have a better idea and then (after nandroid backup if everything in the rom is ok) I will try the one you suggested me.
About NSTools, where can I find the last release? does every rom have a specific release of NSTools or it is universal for every Rom?
in CNA 1.3.3 go to Settings - Interface and touch Notification widget text, it will open toggle menu where you can choose which ones you prefer

Don't worry, you'll become a regular crackflasher very soon Speaking about ROMs, my favorites are CNA and Nuhetri, pair them with speedy-7 or air kernel and you're good to go, just delete RAMDISK folder in speedy-7 zip if you're flashing it on CNA. Today I'm trying CNA with kernel Matrix, good battery life but the phone seems a little bit laggy sometimes.. I will surely try the Speedy-7 that you suggested.
Yes It's a great thing that these roms keeps evolving, the only thing that I don't like very much is that there are so many different roms that is so difficult to chose the best one, imagine if there will be only 2-3 roms (for example 1 MIUI, 1 cyanogen, 1 AOSP) and all the developers focused toghether their efforts just in these 3 Roms, I think that now we would already have perfect kernel-roms completely free of problems, full of features, and with 2 days battery life
Yes, I agree with that. We have too many similar ROMs, but I see more and more teams forming, like CNA for example and the result is obvious. I am no dev, but it's kinda hard for a single person to maintain ROM on regular basis, refreshing it with new mods and stuff like that due to lack of time... So, hope to see more teams developing a single ROM

you got me excited
hey man, this isnt gonna work at 1.3 ghz... its gonna crash for alot of us. my phone can run 1.15 semi-stable, 1.1 would be safe for everyone. this processor is extremely sensitive and cant handle speeds like that.
excited for the rom though, thanks for contributing
**** mine never even handled 1.1. would always do the 1 buzz followed by 3 and i would be forced to wipe my entire phone afterwards. god the SK4g is such a piece of ****. anyways, i'll test this out if i get around to it, probably wont be until next monday though. hopefully tis up and running by then.
I second that. Please remove the overclock for the sake of compatibility. On my device, I have never found any kind of stable overclock.
I also appreciate that you have used an accurate version number--that properly indicates the state of the software. Thank you. Little things go a long way.
also do u have a list of apps that have been added and or removed?
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because i can go to 1.3 stable, but the loss in battery life just isnt worth the increase in speed. I say you should remove the overclock and just put in the description [OVERCLOCKABLE].
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
How about make two versions? An OC'd one and a non-OC'd one? I would definitely like to see how this thing runs with that (I usually OC to 1.2, and too lazy to actually do it when it would be helpful...)
EDIT: Just tried 1.3, about 5 seconds after setting it phone did the FC vibrate pattern, then stopped responding... maybe 1.3 is a bit drastic?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
ive been able to overclock to 1.3 semi stable, with a slight voltage increase ive gone over an hour at 1.312. the problem is that the battery does drain like crazy. and it is susceptible to issues. the performance gains arent 30 percent so it isnt worth it, but if it remained stable id use it.
Chill out everyone. Its just OCable to 1.3ghz. Its set to default 600-800mhz screen wake and 200-400mhz screen sleep. My script handles the freqs of the cpu. However if a user chooses to use any overclock app or widget it will disable my script and no help will be given if someone has issues. It will show in the logcat if my script was disabled.

The goal of this ROM and kernel is to tweak voltages as much as possible and adding overclocks where necessary. I first aim for extra battery life and then the speed improvements will arrive.
Reason for starting this ROM is that I want my own stable ROM, with extra battery and speed just the way I want it.
Instead of making a github account I will upload my patch sets to comply with GPL, other developers can use these patches easily
Features
- More speed
- More battery
- Tweaked governors
- Removed crap

CM10 is actually not very good for the Nexus 7. The builds are unstable and it's not working properly yet. For now I stick with building AOSP ROMs for the Nexus 7
I need to know to the device manager is for the Nexus 7 so I can push my changes.
Until then I refuse to work for CM10. I tried their latest build and I did not like it at all.
I am still experimenting with programming for the Nexus 7.
Due to lots of school work Java, ADO .NET 4, Networking, Math in my university I have not much freetime. I also have a Google Nexus to manage. Again there CM10 is also unstable, and they refuse to accept my patches, which are known to fix those problems they are having. But I have been using those patches because they helped for me.
I have applied to join the AOKP team. I am still waiting for an answer.
Would love to try it out, but the service you're using to offer downloads 1) pops up porn ads and 2) won't let me download after I tried clicking had to wait, and came back to it 10 min later.
Seems like you're in it more for the income you could make and not the user experience, yeah?

Since this is based on aosp, I'm guessing that there isn't notification toggles?
Edit: I'm very interested to try this. awaiting your answer
anyway the site you host your rom on doesn't allow me to download, it says i exceed the daily limit. if you intend to go far with this rom please at least share it on a more accessible site, maybe google docs?

I will use zippyshare as an alternative mirror.
About the porn ads, I don't know but they don't come from rapidgator thanks for sharing your freetime activities.
I am in it for the user experience. Since I use the rom and kernel myself 24/7 and I don't like to flash roms and kernels.

I am still trying to find a commit that gives me these notification toggles. You can always help me finding them. Eventually they will arrive. At least I hope they do. I am doing my best.
My main goal is putting extra battery life into this thing, next cleaning up the messy code from Asus or Google who-ever is responsible, next user experience. I will be mailing a few people for the dropdown notifications.

I will upload version 2 on zippyshare and rapidgator.
Version 2 is coming with:
- Fixed power_profile.xml: it looks like the whole file was being treated as crap. The Nexus 7 doesn't have a 3260mAh battery... So I fixed that. I also fixed the cpu power consumption. Since there are no real values I hope to solve it as soon as possible to be a little more accurate. But now it looks very clean which is a huge improvement.
- Interactive governor has been nicely tweaked. Before my cpu frequency was always sitting at 1200mhz while playing Dead Trigger. I tuned:
- sustained_load: 80 --> 85
- go_highspeed_freq & go_maxspeed_freq: 85 --> 90
- min_sample_time: 30ms --> 60ms
- Extra patches from Nvidia, Google and Asus
thanks for your reply, i'll wait for v2 then. anyway i'll try to find the commit when i have free time. Hopefully you'll manage to implement it in time for v2
Same here. Can't download v1 and can't wait for v2!
If you can, you should implement these clemsyn uv to the kernel internal voltages on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903304
and also add user tweakable cpu uv via init.d script maybe? seems like a exxcellent way to save battery..
Looks very interesting this Rom. Bugless, extra battery life and then speed (though seriously even stock is pretty damn smooth) is what counts for me. On the nexus 7 not even the power widget's important let alone any other bloating features.
I'll flash on the weekend and report how it goes!

Would you consider offering the kernel as a separate download? I'm still using your r41 kernel on cm10 and its the best kernel out there, in terms of battery life and smoothness

Any info on v2?

So frustrated with this stupid phone. My daughter has been using it and it's slow, crashes a lot and always running out of internal storage.
Is there a STABLE ROM that has all working features that would help with the issues I'm having? I'd like something where everything (i.e. camera, wifi calling, rotation, decent battery life, etc.) is working as it should. Don't necessarily need the newest version of android, just something that will alleviate the problems I'm having without breaking anything.
Do the custom ROMs fix the problem of the extremely limited internal storage on this phone?
Thanks in advance.
Look for AntonX's Barebones in the Dev section. If you have any curiosity regarding the ROM - read through the ROM thread.
I'll second that.
Like lumin said, barebones is your best bet if you want every feature working.
The most stable ROM out there is stock. Other than that Barebones.
Good advice. I actually wound up going that way before I saw these replies.
I installed Basic with a Twist kernel, which then gave me CWM and then installed Barebones.
Went smoothly, no need at all for a data wipe. It freed some extra internal storage. Seems to be a lot smoother now, but that's really just my initial observation.
I came from stock/rooted KJ6. What's the details behind it actually running smoother with the new kernel and ROM? What exactly makes it faster if anything?
I agree, I'm running Barebones with the basic with a twist kernel. Excellent in terms of functionality and stability. Just throw on a nice launcher and enjoy! Also been on the battery for 13 hours, with moderate use. (Light Facebook and texting, app downloading) and barely at 45% battery life.
I believe the custom Kernel that antonx designed is the reason for the speed/smoothness.
These threads usually get axed by a moderator, because the best rom is the one you like.
It's a preference.
I still like gb valhalla black by RaverX3X with my Blastoff v2.5 kernel. But that's what I like. Then, of course I use a different launcher, and tweak the rom to my liking, by the time I'm done making the rom perfect, I blow it away with another cm9-aries build that is still broken.... :sigh:
The problem with these threads is someone will say that a rom someone else likes sucks and the trolls feed on this negativity and multiply in numbers until someone finally gives in and reports the thread. (usually me)

I understand. I did give my definition of what a "best" ROM is so I'd expect that people would make suggestions geared to that, not necessarily what they like. From reading some of the threads, it seems like my needs would eliminate any ICS ROM.
I did have one random reboot with the basic with a twist/barebones combo, so that's something I have to keep an eye on.
This is my daughter's phone. I really have no interest in constantly tweaking this or getting too far away from stock. All I wanted was a to have something that wasn't as slow/laggy and to free up some system space.
Right now, I'm good with what I have. I'm still curious as to why either the kernel or the ROM would reduce lag/improve speed?
Which of these features contributes most to that and why when comparing to pure stock? ext4 file system? jhash3? build.prop/init.d tweaks? I really have no idea.
Thanks again to everyone.
Kernel
Features
initramfs from TeamAcid, including CWM5, SuperSU, forced ext4, etc.
Usual CIFS, TUN. I didn't include FUSE, if anybody needs it let me know.
BLN. Use BLN Control app from market to activate.
Voodoo Sound so paid app is not needed. Voodoo Sound app from market is required. Once installed, enable Smart Amplifier, it's the best thing you can do to improve music listening experience with our phone.
jhash3 for faster hash calculations. Used widely across the kernel, especially in networking.
OC/UV support with extended frequency table. Added 600Mhz, 900Mhz, 1.1Ghz, 1.2 Ghz, 1.3 Ghz, 1.4 Ghz. Use SetCPU or Xan's Voltage Control to enable and control frequency and voltages. Tegrak can be used only with no-OC/UV version.
ondemandX and smartassV2 governors. One of these should probably be preferred over stock ondemand. Change with SetCPU or similar.
TinyRCU. More lightweight version, it fits better our single CPU system.
Swap support, although I don't recommend using it.
SIO and BFQ I/O schedulers in addition to noop, deadline, and cfq that we already have.
ROM
Features
Will not wipe your programs or data, /data is preserved upon install
Heavily debloated. Most essentials apps are still there (like WiFi Calling)
No extra programs added, you need to add your own
ODEXed to save space in /data
CarrierIQ is completely removed
Extended Power Menu (including Screenshot)
Extended Quick Panel (10 buttons, including Data toggle)
1% battery (horizontal)
CRT-Off
Time zone version 2012b
/etc/hosts to cut ads out of the box (keep up to date with AdAway or similar)
Few conservative presets in build.prop and init.d
Basic with a Twist 1.1.3 kernel included
Hey man, from what u said bout the storage, I recommend u buy a 16/32 GB class 4-10, format it w 1-4 GB ext4 and use the app2sd or link2sd script then u dont have to worry bout those internal low storage

I have an SD card, I have app2sd and link2sd, but there's only so much I can move over. I'm still down to 110MB of internal storage.
I'm not sure what you mean by formatting part of the sd card as ext4. Is that some additional trick that allows me to move more things to it? Is there a thread for that somewhere?
Take a look at fota fix in the play store (market). It frees up some room. At this point, Samsung probably won't send us an update.

That bumped me up to about 177MB. I guess that'll hold me over for a bit.
Titanium backup has a couple cool features. Integrate updates into Rom and integrate dalvik cache into Rom. That should free up some more room.
Vote for cm9.1 unofficial w/ LZ kernel and never look back.

Can't wait for jellybean
If I helped out, hit the thanks button.
For me i've found AntonX's Barebones to be the most stable.
I can relate, my 14yr old daughter's phone is also the SGS4g, actually my buddy Krylon's old phone, so you know it's got some miles on it, lol. (Sorry shameless name dropping, I know)
For her we went with AOKP from Team Acid and Team Kang. Phenomenal battery for a custom ROM, thanks to a great kernel and a little diligence to make sure the phone hits deep sleep. The ROM has been rock solid and has a ton of fun features for her to play with.
I was very worried about the battery draining fast during the day and the phone being dead when she might need it most. Any custom ROM would be a bit of a risk. To state the obvious here, cell phones are a critical line between child and parent these days and this phone and ROM have not let us down at all. I was very concerned for reliability and chose this phone and ROM over my old Vibrant. The Vibrant has far more options and development behind it, but so many times I would pick it up and have a problem.. for me it was big fun, but for my daughter we needed a more stable platform. Certainly nothing to take lightly.
I had the same problem with mine being slow and having a lack of internal storage. I installed remics with the hefe kernel and before I started installing apps I had 324 mb of internal storage free and my phone runs much faster and much more stable then when I was on stock or Gingerbread roms. My phone was running so badly before doing this that most games wouldn't even work and now all games that I have tried work well and I'm not running out of internal storage anymore.
PS. Switch to Nova Launcher which runs much better then the default launcher.
Best battery life: stock or stock based ROMs
Best stability: stock
