I have a URL launcher app and need help with some codes..
Someone made for me a URL launcher application. This app makes a web page is run inside of the app window, it dosent launch the defult browser.
But the problem is.. downloads do not work inside of this app... It only works when the website is running in the full browser,,, But I dont want that.. I want the download to be supported inside of this app.
Is there any html codes or scrip that i can use in my web page to make it launch the original browser from the phone, so any files can be download it in the phone..?
This is importan because I want to run a website to host my documents , apps and my files.
I don't want to use a URL launcher application that calls the defult browser or launch the defult browser, because everyone will know the url address from my website..
In the bottom of this post is the link to download my app..
Please someone letme know how can I make it to support download in this app.
I hope there is a way to insert some type of code in my downloads web page , so everytime someone clicks the link, the code will call / launch the android browser so the download can be suported.
Here is the link of the app..
Please go to download shortcut and choose android shortcut for testing... You will see that the download dont work in this app frame... It only works in full android browser..

It would seem that this is just a browser bug. I have the same problem when trying to upload files from the default browser. I always need to use opera or dolphin to upload. If you want send me the url that ur trying to access and I will play with it from there. But don't expect much. I doubt it will work. But ill try.

I don't think is a browser bug because the app is not a web browser... I don't know how it works but sometype ob browser runs inside of the app, because you can see the website running inside and fits perfect.. the only problem is that it dosent support downloads....
Basically what happens is a small version of the browser runs inside the app. A webview is what its called. And they are pretty limited. So its possible in webview that maybe downloads are disabled.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but since it's a direct link from beejive.com, I think it should be? I'm not actually in the beta.
http://beejive.com/android/beta/BeejiveIM.apk
If not, can a mod please delete the thread? Thanks
I might give it a try. I don't IM much these days but it's still nice to have a good client there for when you need it..
ATM i'm using the official msn messenger for android (without ads mod).
Do msn have official apps on android? What the name of the app?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
It's called MSN Droid.
Edit: Actually I'm not too sure if that's the official app, sorry.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
still in beta and the UI is pretty good.
yet the function is rather poor.
No it's not msn droid.
It's official msn, but developed by PICA (chinese company http://www.pica.com/)
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/messenger_cbpe.html
I'm don't think it's available in english market, so heres a link to the apk (it is a free app, not warez) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BALZ1U08
It is modified to remove ads (the official one has ads >_<)

Need to hide app icon in notification bar, its truly annoying.
needs work but pretty good so far...will be paying for it once it becomes available...
Nice
Seems to work pretty good. I like the ease. It does appear to be on all the time though but I've not seen a significant battery drop to warrant removing it. Really wish they would have opened the beta up for more people, I hated just downloading it but not being able to participate in bug posting.
Actually you can participate, Maybe not bugs, but fatal errors that cause the app to crash you can send email logs of when the app crashed directly to them. After the app has a force close it will ask you if you want to send the log when the app crashed to them by e-mail.

You have to rename the file to change it to .apk file. (at the moment it's named BejiveIM.apk.zip)
If you have file extensions hidden then unhide them and remove the .zip and save.
I was getting a "Timedout" and then "no client key" yesterday but the app started to work again late last night. I'm not too sure I like the size of the icon like others have said, but I do like its the most stable out of the clients I've tried without draining my battery.... much.
Palringo is way better

Agree! Reason I uninstalled after a few hours. Besides that the app icon seems larger than any of the others I have. But not being able to disable the icon in the notification bar is extremely annoying!!

Hi, Thanks for posting this. I used to use it on my Berry all the time . . . I installed it from your link & imo it's the best IM client out there so far & still Beta lol! The feature that lets you email the conversation or post to twitter is sic ;-)
I'll definitely be buying this app soon as it's out officially.
yeah this app isnt bad at all, it seems close to trillian it will come down to 5 things...
-features
-batterylife
-speed/lag between IMs
-reliable connection
-price (seems like trillian will be free)
I find the mobile versions of facebook and ebay (especially ebay...omfg....) to be unbearbly...bad.
I tried the facebook app the ebay app...they are even worse. Can someone solve my delima, and teach me how to keep these sites full, and not "mobile"

Is there not a option on the websites that say full website? usually at the bottom
Or
Use dolphin browser it has settings which make it go mobile desktop and something else
In the stock sense browser, should work in the android browser too, type about:debug, go into settings and change uastring to desktop
i use Dolphin HD
there you can set the user agent to "Desktop" and the normal version of all websites is used
Does dolphin support flash?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I wrote about:debug in android default browser ported from 2.3 but nothing happened. Maybe the URL should be something else?

If I remember correctly (haven't used the stock browser in a while) nothing should happen. When you write that in the adress field you get more options in settings. So check out settings to see if you have stuff like "User Agent" there.
Menu>More>Settings>User Agent>Desktop. That is for the AOSP browser.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I cant find this user agent or get the about to work
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Stupid question but you hit enter after about:debug right?
Where can I get the ported browser?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I use Dolphin Browser HD & mini, they could change user agent very easily. You just need to go to settings to find them. : )

They say they only support flash on Froyo 2.2 or above. Mine is 2.2, flashes works great.
1. Go to browser
2. Type about:debug (I don't remember if you need to press enter, just try it if you want)
3. Nothing will happen visually and nothing really is supposed to happen.
4. Now, press menu
5. Select more
6. Scroll down to Advanced Settings
7. Select UA string
8. Select Desktop
if you can't see UA string, i don't know what else you can do
I have a Liquid A1 with Froyo 2.2 (LCR rom).
Unfortunately, I cannot view the full version of spome sites, even switching to "desktop user agent".
I tryed in Dolphin HD, in the default browser after the "debug" option, in Opera Mobile, Miren, etc...
For example, no way to go to the full view of this site:
http://www.primocanalesport.it/
(it's a local sport page: I would try the live streaming of their video news when I'm on the go)
I *always* finish to:
http://www.primocanalesport.it/mobile/
even manually writing the URL, with the user agent set on desktop mode.
Someone could help me??
Anyone tried this app yet??
I download it on my Hero
and open Deskop via Xoom Browser
sms
contacts
file manager
not fully tried the rest
is working!
hopefully the Dev- can make an app for the Xoom(tablets) if we give some request ((like a Desktop view app))

Yeah I'd also love to see this working on the Xoom. I wish I was smart enough to help, but all I can do is add a +1.
I currently access a website that has the ability to download selected files from the click of a hyperlink. (on the PC). You just click on the link and the files come down and a dialog box opens with the downloaded file asking, to open it or save it.
When I try to do the same on my phone the website appears to be accepting depressing the link, however nothing appears on my phone and I cannot find the file anywhere space on the phone. It may be downloading the file in the file structure but I cannot find it. My friend who has an iPhone does the same thing and the file opens up immediately on his phone just like you would on a PC.
I can open these files if they are sent to me in an e-mail but not by depressing this hyperlink on the website.
Anyone have any ideas?
ps: the phone is a stock Charge with the latest GB update.
Usually you'd see an arrow in the Status Bar when something is actually downloading. You can also check the Downloads app in your App Drawer, providing you have it.
It sounds to me like it's simply not downloading for some reason You could try another Browser to see if you have the same problem.
I tried using the dolphin browser but still no luck. I looked in the downloads folder and did not see it. The particular link on the website itself is a function that automatically begins a download stream to the your device. When using a PC, a dialog box opens up asking if you want to open the file or save it. I get no reaction when using my android phone. I know the function works on a mobile device since a friend of mine with an iPhone perform the same function and it downloaded to his phone.
Any other ideas?
What is the website you are trying to download from?
Anyway, try Opera Mobile first, NOT the MINI version, but "Opera Mobile".
Its the only browser who allowes me to download from any source I tried so far:
https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5vcGVyYS5icm93c2VyIl0.
Wow, thanks very much for the help yukinok25. Looks like the Opera Mini browser, which I assume is similar to what's in the iPhone works perfectly. The website I am accessing this link is a secure server so I cannot tell you the website.

It is permanent, but you have to go into settings and change it from there. Simply clicking the "request desktop site" does not save it.
Yahoo refuses to load the desktop page using Opera on my TF by default.
If I do a Google search using Opera & go to a link on the first page. When I try to go back Opera takes me back to main Google search page instead of back to the first page of my original search.
Opera frequently crashes too and I never had any of the issues before ICS.
Best work around I have found for stock browser is to request full site, then bookmark the site and just load from bookmark.
