Does anyone know if there is an antenna that will work for the 4g signal on the epic? I live in an area where 4g works great outside my home but will not work inside. 3g and voice work fine inside, i just need to see if i can help with the 4g reception at all. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
JD
I can't figure out how to link in tapatalk... but there is a thread in general with 'how to boost your 4g signal' instructions. Search for it or scroll down a couple pages.
Or maybe somebody can just post link.
It might help!

I read that thread and it is about software tweaks. The tweaks actually helped me get signal inside of work, but they do not help my home. Now I am looking for an antenna to add.
Thanks,

Thing is 4g is 2.4ghz. Which doesn't penetrate barriers very well. My house has aluminum siding so the moment I step inside I lose 4g. The lower the frequency the the further it travels and penetrates at a given transmission power.

I asked Wilson Electronics about.this (they make range boosters) and their answer wasn't encouraging. Because each carrier's 4G is a different frequency, they may not have any products for 4G for a long time...(if ever)

Been heavily testing my 4g all over my city of Greensboro, NC for three days now. No signal issues, no drops, stays 4g everywhere except in my office building. All four carriers suck in my building. Even then... I still get 4g inside most of the time. My downloads blaze! Running simultaneous tests against my woman's G2... my Sensation is always a little faster.
Average bandwidth = 3 Mbs to 9 Mbs
If you experience slow latency (like the market is slow to load) go to this post for a neat fix. Mine loads everything faster now.
-edit-
Takes me about 10 seconds to fully load everything on the Engadget web site with plug ins on and desktop browser mode. This is using Dolphin HD browser. That's fast!
If you use the speedtest.net app click the results tab after the test for the true speeds. The main display seems to lie.
I'm in Baltimore, MD and so far I'm getting about 800 k up and down. About 10 times as fast as my Sprint 3g connection.

800k could be the "speed" and equate to a 6.4 Mbs "pipe"
I'm hitting 9- 10 mbs by my house and job consistently.

I did the fix yesterday and it is still slower than my vision. Just my pyramid stays connected to 4g easier even during phone calls.

Could be a typo too ... or could just be really crappy network speed if it is indeed 800kbps.
No its really 800k. Today I hit around 1400k down 900 up. I'm happy tho. On Verizon I was getting 600 kbps if I was lucky. And I'd be lucky to top 100kbps these last few months I was on Sprint

I might be getting this phone from my sprint evo 4g phone but it is NOT 4g, it is HSPA+. Why does everyone insist on calling it a 4g phone?

Oh let it go already. Even the bodies that define the term have given into the marketing hype. "4G" is said to use a term everyone knows already. The few of us geeks who know otherwise understand just the same. I'm sure you do too.
Bottom line, it's got speed, that's what everyone wants. None of the carriers reach what the original definition of 4G was to be. The carriers call it 4G, so just use the term for the sake of agreement. What the carriers originally called "3G" was not really 3G, but let's not get caught up in a side bar when everyone knows what is being asked. Either the device reaches speeds the carrier calls their "4G" speeds or it does not.

2g reception
i have tried the quick fix to no avail. i am running on 2g speeds around my house. 1 mile over though i am getting 4g speeds.
question is, is this a tmobile tower related issue or a issue with the radio on the phone.
edit- i was getting at least 3g speeds on my old samsung behold in the same area.
New Orleans, La.
I live in Knoxville, TN. I am lucky to get 600 kbps around here. I have occasionally hit 6-9 Mbps, but only a handful of times, and not for more than a couple minutes. Not sure if it's a tower issue, or a radio issue. T-Mobile is looking into. My speeds were much faster when I had my Evo on Sprint

Don't get me wrong. That is the reason I said I am dumping my HTC Evo. I ran a test on tmo speeds on a g2x and I was blown away. So I figured, why the hell do I need to pay for premium data when 4G is not even available in my area since Sept. 2010.
So I decided that I will be getting this phone tomorrow when it releases at a retailer. But my argument still stands, it is HSPA+.
I got mine from Wal-Mart on the 9th.. unless u meant a tmobile retail store.

costco is what I meant. Are there upcoming deals from any of the retail stores(walmart, sams, costco, etc)
Speeds in Minnesota stinks a$s.. I'm everywhere from anoka all the way south to Burnsville.. I haven't got anything over 5 mbps .. I consistantly get 1-1.5mbps with 2-3 4g bars...

Hey Thunderbolt users! I currently have a Droid Incredible and my upgrade is due in 3 weeks. I was thinking of getting a 4G device and the Thunderbolt would have to be the best out and I don't care for the Bionic. I hate Motorola.
Anyway, I was wondering if there was a Thunderbolt user in the Arlington/Mansfield, TX area that could tell me about the 4G coverage. Is it spotty, slow, etc? I know Dallas/Ft. Worth has 4G coverage (and extended signal areas according to the verizon website), but I don't think I live close enough reach just the Dallas/Ft. Worth signal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you don't have 4G yet wait for the HTC vigor to come. It's gonna blow the thunderbolt away.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I'm trying to find out if my area is covered or not and I think I'm waiting for the vigor anyway. I guess I'll just have to go ask the Verizon guys this week. Do you happen to know when the vigor is colony out? I heard fall, but you know rumors.

Oh yeah...youre good for sure as far as 4g goes. I even get 4g all the way out to 20 and 35 in ft worth. Its a strong signal out there in Arlington area...at least for me it is. Im rooted with the MR2x radio, but even stock before rooting was good signal.

Need help, Noob here.
Me and my wife just switch carrier from att to tmo-us. My wife got the old inspire 4g and I got the new htc sensation. We both got the unlimited talk,txt,data(4G) plan.
The inspire is rooted with stock rom, I just notice that it can only establish EDGE connection with a E(on top of up/down arrow) or E(on top of a check) on the status bar.
Since Im getting 4G connection on my sensation, I tried to swap sim cards but no luck. I've been lurking on this forum to search for a hint and I can take it from there but I cant find any......
Is this something that I have to tweak on the Inspire since I switch network or is this something to do with TMOUS side? That I need to call them..
I learned that 4G should be H or H+ doesnt matter but all Im getting is E. Speed test shows 0.3mbps down and and 0.1mbps up which is way off on 4G speed.
Any advice would be appreciated... Thanks in advance!
If your using an inspire 4g on a t Mobile network, you will only get E.

SO I’m going to NASCAR for 4 days at California Speedway. I though I heard that they bring mobile towers to add coverage for event like this. Does anyone know if that is true and of so do they ad 4G?

Yes they do. I can tell you from going to Texas they have portable towers everywhere, you even get full bars in the tunnels.

Here's the basics of my request. Live in a fringe area of 3g reception. My MAXX gets at least 1 bar more in coverage. Clients never complain of reception issues. GS3 gets inconsistent coverage... I have updated to the newest modem... works better but still under par to motto. Is there any way to allow this phone to use more power to transmit and rec signal?? If there is a working solution I will be happy to donate 200 to any dev that can make this happen.
Just inherit with the design? Or it possible to increase the phone signal power??

Just like in the real world, if you throw cash then we can do whatever we want.
You probably already know this, but, you will have to either wait for Verizon to release a new radio or install a signal booster at home. I don't think that your request is possible, I could be wrong though....

From what I understand Samsung reduced the radio's power to meet lower radiation standards. I think a newer firmware could solve this problem but the question is will we get one.
Keep it together
Thanks for the input. I will give you a call on the number you left.
Ps... tried the booster. In fact I run a 3watt kit in my car which works great. The in home kits I don't find all that great.... unless you are in front of the repeater. Basically too limiting imo.

Really? If that's the case, shouldn't someone be able to come out with a kernel which ups the power of the radios? That would be absolutely amazing if they could!

Upping the power of the radio will also eat through your battery quicker and doesn't necessarily mean it will make the radio work any better..
Better designed internal antennas would be sufficient in most cases.. And since Samsung has a looooong history of dishing out poor radios, I doubt increases in radio power will help if any..
